| | | GOF most expensive film ever Summary:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be the world's most expensive film ever... Article:
Thanks to the Snitch for the alert.
The next Harry Potter film will be the most expensive movie ever made, says director Mike Newell.
Goblet Of Fire the fourth Potter film will cost £170 million ($308 million US dollars) - £5 million more than the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (which is estimated at $298 mill USD)!
Filming is due to begin in April and Newell, whose bigscreen successes include Four Weddings And A Funeral and Julia Roberts' hit Mona Lisa Smile, said: ''I think of myself as being really lucky. I'm going to make the most expensive film there has ever been.
''These things are not like ordinary films they are world events.''
Newell agreed that the job of directing a Potter picture carried huge responsibilities. He said: ''I have millions of 10-year-olds who must not be disappointed.
''Making Harry Potter is like being President of Brazil. It is a colossal undertaking.''
Goblet of Fire, scheduled for release in 2005, will again star Daniel Radcliffe as schoolboy wizard Harry and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, the halfgiant grounds man at Hogwarts.
Robbie's character has presented Newell with a giant sized headache finding an 8 ft tall French woman to play Hagrid's love interest, Madame Maxime.
He said: ''We are casting right now. I've been in Paris, looking for giant women and French schoolgirls.'' TOP FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE MOVIES
Fox, 1997.2000. £165m: Return of the King by New Line, 2003. £112m: Titanic by Paramount/ £96m: Water world by £110m: Dinosaur by Disney, Warner Bros, 1999. Universal, 1995.
Source: Sunday Mail I just have to make an important correction:
Return of the King is NOT the most expensive ever made so far. That sum is for ALL THREE of the LOTR films together.
The movie that truly had the highest budget ever (before Goblet of Fire) was a tie between Titanic and Dinosaur at $200 million each.
Next is Wild Wild West and Waterworld at $175 mill, and fifth is in fact Terminator 3, at $170 mill.
See for yourself here.
Return of the King cost around $97 million by itself. That's a pretty huge difference from the alleged $298 mill reported.
Sorry about any confusion!
I have gone in and corrected the original post to reflect the truth.
Thanks to HPANA and The-Numbers.com for helping to clear this up.

O.O
That's A LOT of money, that could soooo be donated to me! LOL
But, it should be good, for that amount. But, you also have to think of how long this movie is going to be. The longer the movie, the more expensive it will have to be....especially a movie that will need special effects, and that sort of thing from beginning to end.
