GOF most expensive film ever

Summary:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be the world's most expensive film ever...

Article:

Thanks to the Snitch for the alert.

The next Harry Potter film will be the most expensive movie ever made, says director Mike Newell.

Goblet Of Fire the fourth Potter film will cost £170 million ($308 million US dollars) - £5 million more than the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (which is estimated at $298 mill USD)!

Filming is due to begin in April and Newell, whose bigscreen successes include Four Weddings And A Funeral and Julia Roberts' hit Mona Lisa Smile, said: ''I think of myself as being really lucky. I'm going to make the most expensive film there has ever been.

''These things are not like ordinary films they are world events.''

Newell agreed that the job of directing a Potter picture carried huge responsibilities. He said: ''I have millions of 10-year-olds who must not be disappointed.

''Making Harry Potter is like being President of Brazil. It is a colossal undertaking.''

Goblet of Fire, scheduled for release in 2005, will again star Daniel Radcliffe as schoolboy wizard Harry and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, the halfgiant grounds man at Hogwarts.

Robbie's character has presented Newell with a giant sized headache finding an 8 ft tall French woman to play Hagrid's love interest, Madame Maxime.

He said: ''We are casting right now. I've been in Paris, looking for giant women and French schoolgirls.''

TOP FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE MOVIES:
1 12/19/1997 Titanic $200,000,000
2 05/19/2000 Dinosaur $200,000,000
3 06/30/1999 Wild Wild West $175,000,000
4 07/28/1995 Waterworld $175,000,000
5 07/1/2003 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines $170,000,000

Hope it's going to be good since they're going to spend so much money making it.

It's obvious where all that money will go. The majority of it will be actors wages (think of how many more extras are needed) and for the Graphics work on the Quidditch World Cup.

I can't wait to see the Triwizard Tournament and the World Cup. Since they are spending so much on them, they are bound to be fantastic.

It does seem an awful waste though, when you think how that money could be used for the better good.

But, like people say it will be made back and hopefully not all of it will line executives trouser pockets.

Wow... I don't know if that's a good thing, or not. It DOES seem like quite the waste.

Well you can't really say it's going to be the most expensive film ever, because it hasn't been made. It's only an estimate. Therefore, it's not the most expensive film ever because it hasn't been made. After it's been made, then they can go saying whatever they want to say.

Elektra's got a point. A Budget is how much they have aside to use. Who says they'll use it all? Who says another film wont outstrip it before it's released.
