| | | Dumbledore 'really is dead' says J.K. Rowling
On the second night of 'An Evening with Harry, Carrie and Garp', J.K. Rowling answered some more questions from fans after reading the same passage from the night before. Members of Mugglenet were in attendence and have provided an outline of topics covered, including: Quote:
There's more to Aunt Petunia than meets the eye, and we'll find out what's unique about her in book seven.
Quote:
Dumbledore IS really dead. "Everyone needs to move through the 5 stages of grief" and get past his death. She also apologizes to DumbledoreIsNotDead.com for ruining the purpose of their site.
Quote:
While taking a shower before the reading today, Jo said that she had come up with a different title for book seven that would work better than her current title. No word on which title will be used, though.
Quote:
Moderator Soledad O'Brien asked the three authors who from their books they'd invite to dinner. Stephen immediately said he'd invite Harry and Hermione.
While Jo is listing the characters who she'd invite to dinner, she names the trio but then pauses. The crowd begins to shout out other characters, but Jo responds, "I'm the only one who knows who lives through the series," accidentally implying that she could only list characters who make it through the final book. Her final two choices (after realizing what she said) were Dumbledore and Hagrid.
You may find the complete list herewith a further report here.
Thanks to Mugglenet for the info! |

Well, of course there's more to Aunt Petunia than meets the eye, and after the second chapter of OotP, that was all clarified. Why would a woman who abhors the magical with such intesity be corresponding with someone magical? The Howler gave it away. I think maybe she's a Squib or something, and that she and Lily were adopted or something.
Bah. We'll find out soon enough. And the fact that Dumbledore is really dead kills me. :/ I'll miss him, he was one of my favorite characters.

Hogwarts RPG Name: unsorted | I loved Dumbledore too, I'm going to miss that twinkle. But I don't see him pulling an Obi-Wan manuver either. JKR said dead is dead, and made it a point to make sure we knew that there was no magic that could bring back the dead. As Dumbledore saw death as the next great adventure, I doubt he'd stay behind as a ghost. I believe she said that he would play a part in the 7th book, but how? If he's not a ghost, and he doesn't pull a "Gandalf" or "Obi-Wan" how can he play a part? Maybe he has stored memories for Harry to view in the Pensieve?
What rattles me most is that I really want that book in my hands so I can finally know what's going on for sure, but I'm also afraid to finish it as it's the last in the series. |

I always thought that Dumbledore was dead becase he didn't come back and his picture is on the wall with other headmisteress and headmasters so to me I figured that he was gone. People seem to think that he had the power to stop it from happenig. He was such a great wisard or that he really wasn't gone.

When I read HBP, I had no doubt Dumbledore was dead. Even though he is a great wizard, nothing can stop death. And barely anyone chooses to come back as a ghost when they are dead.
Petunia. Hmm, wonder what could have happend to her. Was she adopted, because Lily and herself are nothing alike. She could have been adopted into Lily's family though.
But the bit where she will only invite people who make it through the series over to dinner, why did she pause after the trios name? And why say Dumbledore and Hagrid?

Yeah, I always thought that Dumbledore really was dead. It makes more sense to me, anyways. I'm glad for the conformation. All these teasers make me so anxious for the last book.
