Author Lois Lowry has updated her blog, where she states that production for the film adaptation of her book, The Giver, was to begin with David Yates as director. However, Ms. Lowry explains that David can not partake in the project yet because he has signed up to direct the final Harry Potter film(s), Deathly Hallows:

David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years.
This would be the third Harry Potter film David Yates would direct, after Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince.
We await confirmation from Warner Bros. about the news.

No, no, not Yates! I really wish they would get a decent director...like Peter Jackson....I mean, he did such a good job with LOTR screen-adaption, so why not HP?

David Yates's direction of OotP was cool but he really left a lot of stuff out, especially in the MoM battle scenes and the part about Neville's involvement in the prophesy. I still like Alfonso Cuaron better.
