The Pumpkin Patch is situated within a fenced plot of land. Students are free to enter through the wooden gate and traverse carefully among the orange vegetables. The pumpkins are in varying stages of growth. They are well tended to by Professor Hawkins but they have extended the invitation of the same to Hogwartians. This much is made clear by the neat sign perched on the outside of the Patch:

Marina had reached the point where she needed to do something with her hands.
Preferably something that couldn't talk back. Wasn't that just another Tuesday for us though?
The Pumpkin Patch had seemed suitable. The Gryffindor pushed open the wooden gate and stepped inside, glancing once at the sign before continuing between the rows. She had no particular interest in pumpkins, gardening, or any of the other wholesome activities apparently available to Hogwarts students, but the invitation to remove weeds and dead leaves had caught her attention.
It sounded productive. It also sounded like exactly the sort of thing where she could be a little more aggressive than strictly necessary and nobody would ask questions. An idea that Professor Cox had helped her realize last term.
So the blonde crouched beside the nearest pumpkin and immediately began pulling weeds from around its base. One came free easily.
The next required more effort.
She dug her fingers into the soil around it and pulled again, finally sending the weed flying backwards. “Thank you.” There was no one there to thank though. And that was sort of the point of this entire excercise. She could pull, she could mutter like an old lady while cursing the subject of her frustration and no one would ask her a thing.
Feeling relatively at ease already, she moved on to another patch of weeds, working her way methodically along the row. Her sleeves were already getting dirty, strands of hair falling loose around her face, but she didn't seem particularly bothered by either. In fact, the dirt under her fingernails was strangely satisfying.
Pull.
Tug.
Discard.
Repeat.
Whatever had been irritating her before she came here was still irritating her. She hadn't magically become less annoyed simply because she was surrounded by pumpkins. But at least now she had something tangible to take it out on.
A particularly stubborn weed refused to budge.
Marina stared at it.
“You have about three seconds.”
She grabbed the stem with both hands.
“Three.”
She pulled.
“Two.”
Harder.
“One.”
The weed finally tore free, taking a ridiculous clump of soil with it.
Marina sat back on her heels, breathing a little harder than necessary.
She looked down at the weed in her hand.
Then at the increasingly disturbed patch of earth.
“...Better.”

Cat was in search of a reading spot.
The library and the common room were great, of course, as they always were. But she wanted to enjoy the nice weather while it lasted. And maybe read a book for fun. She had several in her bag to choose from.
She also needed to write an essay… but she’d get to that later.
Somehow, she’d thought of the pumpkin patch. It seemed cozy, like she could hide away between the pumpkins. Find a couple just big enough and close enough to form a nook. Lose herself for a few hours.
That was the thought until she actually made it to the patch and was immediately distracted from all plans.
Marina!!
She watched her best friend as she approached from behind her. Was she… arguing with weeds? Fighting weeds. Dueling, perhaps.
Cat caught a smile. “Why is it,” she began, “that I often find you tussling with something?” she tried to school her features into something resembling stern and placed her hands on her hips as she stepped up beside Marina. “The good news is that you definitely won that round,” she said, nodding to the upturned patch of soil.

Marina looked up at the sound of Cat's voice, one hand still wrapped around the remains of the weed she'd just defeated.
For a second, she considered pretending she hadn't heard her. Then she looked at the uprooted patch of soil, back at Cat's hands-on-hips stance, and finally down at the weed in her hand.
“It's not my fault things keep picking fights with me.”
She dropped the weed onto the little pile she'd accumulated and brushed the dirt from her palms, though that only succeeded in smearing more of it across her fingers. At Cat's declaration of victory, Marina glanced at the wreckage with a small, satisfied smile.
“Thank you. It put up a surprisingly good fight.”
She straightened, stretching her back before looking at Cat properly. The smile lingered, more so because Cat was here, and less so because something restless was still beneath it.
“I needed something to do.” she admitted, because she knew Cat would see right through her. Still the admission was offered casually, almost too casually. Marina looked around the pumpkin patch, then back at her best friend forever.
“And before you say it, yes, I know how ridiculous I look.” She grinned sheepishly, before holding out her hand so Cat could help her up. “What are you doing here anyway? Actually wait -- please tell me you weren't actually planning to sit peacefully among the pumpkins and read!”

This time, the smile won out. Cat accepted Marina’s hand and helped her up, letting the stern expression slip away. Maybe it wasn’t, in fact, Marina’s fault that things kept picking fights with her. Although her next admission - that she needed something to do - clued Cat into something that may be hiding under the surface.
Something that, even though Marina continued to try to keep it hidden, seemed to come out anyway. At least this time she was being upfront with Cat about it.
Sort of.
And she would have dove right into challenging the comment itself, but Marina beat her to it. Before Cat even had a chance to say what she was doing here - or make up a reason that wouldn’t get her chastised for doing too much - Marina called her out.
That girl was scary-perceptive. Did she know?
“I… was not actually planning to sit peacefully among the pumpkins and read,” she said slowly, deliberately repeating Marina’s words back to her. She shifted her bag on her shoulders, hyperaware of the several books shifting their weight as she did so. “I also came here to battle the intrusive plants.” The lie was obviously that; reinforced by the exaggerated tall-and-strong stance that Cat adopted as she said it.
Speaking of looking ridiculous. “It’s not a bad idea, really. I bet Professor Hawkins would appreciate the help with the weeds.” She paused. “Do you think she’s named each individual pumpkin?”
