the hair...might be my favorite part (other than the hears which I was SO NERVOUS about drawing because once that white gel pen is down you can't undo it or cover it up with the same sort of inking:whaa:). I don't know how I did it because I usually always overthink how the strands of hair should go and this just flowed so naturally from my wrist.

Another RP moment I could not quite get out of my head (and honestly this is all partly inspired by Jay aka Uncle Moose bringing scenes to life over in his portfolio that you all should check out if you haven't already!). I feel pretty 'okay' with drawing sort of head on positions...so twists in the body and arms bending are among my other vices...just not as bad as HANDS :whaa: Also...I love Ohuhu's skin tone marker set. If you are someone into alcohol based markers, this is for sure a set I 1000/10 recommend.

THOSE TWISTS AND TURNS WERE SO HARD. Plenty of reference photos and it was a fun challenge. I need to push myself to draw more different body positions than just straight on. It means the MOST that you (and Zoryn) like it as I really wanted to capture her essence and that Gryffindor FIYAH.

I kept meaning to post some of these sooner (the final battle at Hogwars inspired a lot of graphic making and nostalgia) so here is a big dump of recently made character signatures  some with new FCs, some who just needed new siggies, and some new debuts. I get especially soft about the Derf and Chloe one as I was able to replicate the feel of their first signature together when they were Head Boy and Head Girl together at Hogwarts but now with their new FCs and new profession. Sadie and Sienna as well with their previous FCs.

As you can see...I have a couple of go-to fonts that are everywhere on my graphics at the moment :xd:

Another fun thing to note is that the texture I used on the Thor siggies is the same just set to different settings as is the texture used on one of the Jericho siggies and the Aguliar siggy (I think one was Color Burn ... maybe) , so you can really change up your style by playing around. Don't be afraid to experiment! You'll stumble upon many happy accidents and many 'nopes but hey at least I know for next time's too

AlwaysSnapesGirl 05-10-2021 10:08 PM

That Kiera and Atticus one :loved: So soft and so pretty *saves it* :x3:

ALL of these siggys are so beautiful! I love the coloring on the Gabrielle and Kurumi siggys. And the striking, vibrant textures on so many of them! Absolutely stunning :sprinklelove:

It has been a minute since I have cracked open my sketchbook and really sat down to draw anything and OOF do I feel it  With Seektober just around the corner, I wanted to do a bit of a fun warm up and when I found out that Sketchtember was a thing, well, bada bing bada boom...here we are

I always work best when I have a certain approach to things, so this time I wanted to take on an art challenge through the perspective of my characters. So, with a random generator, I threw all their names into the interwebs and let it spit out a list in random order. First up was Cooper Branxton (my 6th year Ravenclaw) and my first prompt was "night".

Cooper has an adoration for mythology and Divination, so night immediately made me think of all those gods and goddesses associated with the heavens. Cooper does tend to favor Greek mythology, so I refreshed my memory on Tarot and when The Moon popped up, well, it all came together. Cooper has always wanted to create his own Tarot deck, but using his black and white photography as a medium and I wanted to go there but be begged me not to just yet because it would be "too embarrassing" and he hadn't fully decided on the composition of each card. Ravenclaws, am I right?

So, on this 'The Moon' card, you see an interpretation of the goddess Selene with two crescent moons in different phases on either side. My POSCA pen kind of exploded and ruined the hand (which I am already terrible at drawing) so that's an area that makes me cringe. I added white POSCA down first and then added silver and gold on top of that.

This is a 30 day challenge so...wish me luck? Inspiration came SUPER each for this one :pea: ... may all visuals come so easily

AREN'T THEY JUST AMAZING! These POSCA fine tip pens are...kind of a mess to work with - not a literal mess, well...that too, but like hard to work with. I prefer the regular ones but that is not good for detail work *alas* I will continue to scream about Ohuhu markers being miracle workers - something that really comes into play with today's!

inspiration SSRPG character Mavis Trent (sweetpinkpixie)

This concept maybe came with a two second delay compared to the previous one, but it was still a pretty instantaneous visual. Once upon a time when I was in Jr high or elementary school or something...I read a Rayearth fanfic where a character's voice was described as being 'rich like wine' and that comparison really struck me and I've kept it with me ever since. So seeing 'wine' as a prompt immediately made me think about rich voices and with Mavis being a musical devotee...it was easy for the rest to fall into place. Wine also elicited a visual of a deep red color and no other musical moment quite captures that 'I AM HERE' while sporting some rich red coloring like the Erik appearing as the Red Death during the Masquerade Ball in the Phantom of the Opera musical.

The Phantom of the Opera is a very significant musical for Mavis too. It's the musical that brought her parents together and has been a constant of hers her entire life. It is also the musical that brought her and her "soulmate," Noah Fence who identifies with and exclusively sings and quotes the Phantom, together one fated day in Ollivanders. Of her bucket list of roles she hopes to be casted in one day, Christine Daaé is at the top of that list.

I am particularly pleased with the way all the reds worked out and blended. There are four different hues of Ohuhu markers represented in that humble ensemble. Some regrets having the heart eyed Mavis!Christine in the background (I could have done a better job with the composition...maybe make it like a comic book page and her in a little circle or something) but overall very satisfied with how this one turned out too.

emjay 09-01-2021 03:16 PM

I get so nervous working with red and blending because its such...a bold color  these markers can be pretty forgiving though unless you have put something down that is just entirely too dark. So small relief there :xd: fanks :glomp:

inspiration SSRPG character Zinnia Shacklebolt (sweetpinkpixie)
materials Ohuhu brush tip markers, copic fine inking pens 0.3 & 0.1, Gelly R@ll White 1.0 & 0.5

Zinnia is a character who has gone through so much struggle with her identity and the friction that identity has with the environment she was raised in. Her mother passed away in childbirth and with it any connection to her Japanese heritage while her father (Bulgarian) was mostly absent because of work. She was raid by her grandmother who was incredibly strict and controlling. Her grandmother, your stereotypical pureblood in many ways, was constantly grooming Zinnia to fit the mold of the daughter she wanted and never had and the woman she wished Zinnia's mother had been. She was thrown into beauty pageants at a young age which were more of a means of trying to strut Zinnia around to potential pureblood families as matches to their sons in arranged marriages. Winning practically every title along the way, Zinnia loathed this life and only wanted to play quidditch where she felt the most free - on a broom and in the sky. The press was naturally all over the 'beauty pageant princess turned quidditch princess' motif when they found out. Her grandmother disapproved of quidditch and imposed an expiration date for Zinnia to retire from the "abhorring display" at 25 and make herself useful to the family by entering an arranged marriage or finding a suitable match on her own - much drama, much hurt. She would be irrational reckless when the stress of her grandmother's standards and firm grip became too much and lash out with her behavior. This, naturally, caused some serious heartbreaks along the way, two in particular that she still reels in daily and may never truly heal from. She receives constant reminders of the life she has finally been able to leave behind and all the heartbreaks along the way now that her grandmother has finally passed away to this day.

Zinnia hates being called 'princess' anything, so it is very amusing to me that her prompt turned out to be 'queen' - which she isn't all that trilled about either

So, from Quidditch Princess to Quidditch Queen, Zinnia over time began to reconnect with her mother's roots and explored her Japanese heritage while also embracing her Bulgarian roots and these two sides of her heritage are represented in the two crowns: a Bulgarian queen and the crown of the Japanese empress. A quaffle is beside that to represent her love of quidditch, position as a chaser, and in the past IC year here on SS her team (Kenmare Kestrals) were league champions so...queen of the chasers (ugh she HATES me :lmao:). The ribbon with her name on it is meant to be silk and represents her skill as an aerialist.

materials Ohuhu brush tip markers, copic fine inking pens 0.3 & 0.1, Gelly R@ll White 1.0 & 0.8

Getting the prompt 'green' for Becky was another almost no brainer seeing as Herbology is her favorite subject and one of her best. But as easy as it was to associate it with her passion, I didn't just want to draw her with a bunch of plants. At first I thought about sketching the interior of her apartment she has with her best friend Cathair O'Connel [iekenstein]...which looks more like a greenhouse than it does an apartment as they are both green thumbs and fans of the leafy green friends...and sat down to sketch that. I got no further than a potted succulent when another vision came to mind and it was just too cute to pass up.

Inspired by an RP event at the Zap-a-Snitch booth at the 600 Years of Diagon Alley celebration in which Sam (Becky's boyfriend) couldn't remember the word 'succulent' so he called the plants 'sucky' and got himself into a moderately sticky situation with the vines at the booth, I drew a little scene of them after he eventually won her the plant. Sam is a delightfully grumpy teddy bear and I just imagine him just not being able to let go of the situation while Becky just continued to giggle because she finds his sour side to be incredibly endearing at times.

Once I finished coloring this, I had instant regret that I did not use the prompt 'literal' sense and kept my entire color scheme to just greens alone. Maybe even done the pencil sketch in a green colored pencil. Could have been a real interesting challenge to use all my green markers in that way. There is also something cute about the only green item being the succulent itself too.

Iiiiiiiiiiiin any case, that finishes up the first page of the challenge:pea: 4 challenges down and 26 more to go.

inspiration SSRPG character Charles Hollingberry (sweetpinkpixie) & featuring Lucien Rosier
materials Ohuhu brush tip markers, copic fine inking pens 0.3

'Fog' was a prompt that I was unsure what to do with, until I saw that my random generator had assigned it to Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry. Another RP inspired doodle, this one comes from his pivotal duel with Neo-Alliance leader. Lucien Rosier, that officially marked the conclusion of the Third Wizarding War and specifically this passage.
Charles’ potent Knockback Jinx struck true, Lucien catapulted backwards, the sound pillars cracking and beginning to topple like dominos… The Minister struggled to pinpoint the source of the nausea that swept over him as he tore his gaze away from the scene, unable to bear witness to Lucien’s demise and the white hot pain from the curse morphing into the ache of moral culpability that would haunt Charles for as long as he remained of this world. Once he turned back, all the man could see was a pile of rubble and the Elder Wand abandoned just before it.
I have taken a few creative liberties with the depiction, but I feel like the essence of the moment has been captured the way I hoped it would. I stuck with muted colors this time from my pastel collection and gave all the colors that were too bright (save for the sunrise) a layer of cool gray. The lack of line art on everything but the two men was a conscious choice to not only place emphasis on them but also to signify the emotional fog Charles felt in the moment. This day ripped Charles' soul into pieces and a thick brain fog settled in in association with his PTSD. For a character that pushes to be vibrant and boisterous, using such a muted and muddy color palate is really jarring for me and was a really interesting exercise in exploring this darker side of Charles' emotions. The sunrise, which really sticks out, only adds to the contrast.

Cassirin 09-05-2021 12:02 AM

Such a clever use of color and line in this one, Kath. I think you conveyed your vision perfectly.
