Who is the most powerful wizard in the HP books in your opinion?

I think Dumbledore's the most powerful wizard ever. He's the only one Voldemort's scared of; that must count for something! He's the reason why Voldemort isn't as powerful as he is now. And he just knows so much, more than he lets on.

Dumbledore definitly. He knew things that other people didn't including voldemort...and everyone thought that voldemort had all these secrets no one could figure out but dumbledore had him all figured out he knew pretty much everything about him and y he was the way he was and he knew all about his past too and not many people did... so dumbledore definitly

Dumbledore's is most powerful wizard in the world. And Lord Voldemort scared of. Alson I think Snape is too powerful wizard in his own way. Even if he is good or bad. :sorcerer:

Ya its definately Dumbledore. I just wish Harry would have learnt from him mmore although im sure thats hes the next powerful wizard after Dumbledore.

Voldemort is indeed powerful but he doesn't believe in a powerful thing...Love. But DD does. So DD is the most powerful one. Harry is powerful also but not as much as DD .

Although I did vote for Dumbledore, we have to realize Dumbledore was the most powerful wizard in the world. He isn't anymore. But right now, it's voldemort if you ask me, although I myself did vote for Dumbledore.

in th first book, DD said that voldy's a powerful wizard, then mcgonagall also said that DD also has the power that voldy has, but he just 'too noble' to use them

I think that Dumbledore is the most powerful, most knowledgeable wizard ever. I am glad that he has passed some of his greatness onto Harry.

I believe snape is the most powerful wizard, being able to fool the dark lord, but voldemort comes 2nd.

Snape is still so young he can become stronger than you´d think. When he learns just a few lessons ... And if he stays alive ...

Hmm,I think that Dumbledore is or was the most powerful wizard. But Snape and Harry come in a close second,IMO.

Dumbledore is the most powerful, for the obvious reasons, and also because like everyone has been saying, Voldemort is afraid of him and also because he is well respected in the wizardig world which doesnt come to just any average wizard

I'm always the desenter. I definitely think Harry is the most powerful wizard. Dumbledore couldn't defeat Voldemort. Dumbledore never survived a killing curse.

Harry is the Christ-like figure in the series. He was protected because of love. He has a wand with a phoenix feather from the same bird as Voldemort. The only difference between him and Voldemort is his choices. He's good and makes good decisions.

Dumbledore knew a lot from his experience and learning, but Harry can has the potential to become a lot greater than Dumbledore simply because his capacity is greater. Who has more power... Harry. The unforgivable curses have less effect on him. It's a natural ability, not a studied ability, essentially it's like magic itself.

Muggles can't learn magic, because they don't have the ability. In a magical sense, Dumbledore became as great as he could because of his abilities, but Harry has greater abilities. Harry just has a lot of book learning to do.

All of them are really powerful. But harry defeated and escaped Voldermont many times. Snape yes lied and killed dumbledore but remember Dumbleodre can read minds and his time was up. I believe harry is stronger.

tis pretty hard to outdo Dumbledore. you have to catch him very off guard...like in HBP when he was unwell!

I think that Dumbledore is/was the most powerful wizard. But I voted for Harry since he is pretty powerful though he doesn't realize it.

Before book 6 I would've said Dumbledore, but he's dead, and Voldemort is alive, so it's gotta be him. Secondly, How could Snape get more votes than his master??? If Snape was more powerful than him, Voldemort would either be dead already, or serving Snape. Lastly... there's no way Harry's stronger than Voldemort, even if he does kill him in the end it will be with alot of help.

Well, There’s a difference between having power and using your power…
So, for this I’d say Voldemort…I mean think about it, Dumbledore may have been able to stop Volde at some points but when it comes having power, it’s Volde no doubt as sad as it is.

I also think that that the Weasley Twins have more potential than the joke shop. If they put their mind to it, then again, I doubt they want to do anything serious.

In magical power Voldermort win hands down in this race, but in terms of character Harry and Dumbldore are streets,towns, citys a head of him.
Snape has a lot of magical power and character.

This is my list of the most magcial wizards:

1. Voldermort ( Voldy is only scared of DD because of what happen in book six with his stolen goodies! That event has given him a magical and mental block when it comes to DD but in powerful magical natural ability it has got to be him he could control his magic before he was 11!)

2.Dumbldore
3. Harry
4. Snape

In good charcter it goes

1. Harry
2. Dumbldore
3. Snape ??
For the moment (being a spy is not easy work and he is being very brave so was the decision to change sides Snape is not a cowdard by any means!)

Voldy does not even make the grade but he does value manners and is polite and that is about it! He thinks highly of bravery and he must be commended about his decision to fight Harry in a proper duel in GoF it shows that even he has some value for honour! It can also be noted he has some limited value for loyalty! but he use them as tools!

It was Dumbledore before he died. Although I voted for Voldemort, I agree with Druscilla_Black that Snape must be very skilled to keep lying to both sides. He can only become powerful now, depends what side he's on.

I think that Harry might not be really yet, but all of the hardships he has gone through have to be for something. That would make life seem so horrible if there wasn't a reason for the things we go through... I'm not saying there has to be a reason, just that I hope there is.

Voldemort definitly as he has been though so many magical transformations he is aquired non-human powers. He is according to Dumbledore Hogwarts most brilliant student. He has 7 horcruxes the first wizard to have more than one horcrux. He discovered the chamber of secrets in his fifth or sixth year after much studying. He managed to climb down the cliff face before he even started at Hogwarts with that litle boy and girl from the orphanage. He has the power of killing with out guilt something I imagine Dumbledore or Harry would never have, something that Riddle was able to do in his 6th year. At that age he was also able to modify memories. He has manipulative power he caused all the those familys to ripped apart in the 1st war, he caused the ministry to tell all the lies about Dumbledore and Harry when he didnt come out in to the open. In his thirties he had already gotten a group of death eaters. The first war went on for 11 years he was picking members of the order off one by one. The order was struggling it was twenty to one. Voldemorts power over Harry's mind is a clear sign of strong magical power. Voldemorts manipulative power continues :he was able to find information out about the teachers that he shouldnt know ,at sixteen he got the giants, he got the dementors, he has inferius he has Fenrir out there getting werewolves on his side.If I am right he was also right in planting snape at Hogwarts as I believe he is faithful to Voldemort.

Mind you Snape and Dumbledore are close contenders. Dumbledore though he knows Tom's weaknesses has never acted upon them. He has discovered uses of dragons blood and done alchemy and during his OWLS did things with a wand that Madam Marchbanks had never seen before. He has fantastic mind but can be fooled he is not infallible just like voldmeort and everyone else.
Snape wrote spells in his hogwarts year, potentially lethal ones. He has a passion and great knowledge for the dark arts. He has a power over Dumbledore that ensures that noone will convince him that Snape cant be trusted. However I blieve that Snape is on the dark lords side and if he were more powerful than Voldemort then he would be able to rise up against him as Snape is surely ambitious.
I dont believe Harry is that powerful he just very adept at DADA and has never been tempted by the dark side.
i voted for Voldemort even if Dumbledore was stiil alive

Dumbledore. I chose this way because I was looking at both wizards that are alive right now and dead, so Dumbledore is still the most powerful wizard. Besides, who knows what he can do as a portrait. If you ask me, he just might prove how powerful he is.

That's a really hard question, but after careful consideration... i still don't know who's more powerful.

Voldemort on the one hand is incredibly dangerous, but Harry has dueled with him and survived... even if he was being helped by the 'inhabitants' of Voldy's wand.

I suppose I'd have to say Dumbledore.

Well... i think that DD is powerful.... but is he as powerful as Voldemort? idk.. I cant see why people think Harry is such an extraordinary wizard... to me it seems like he's just average...oh well.

I agree, but also realize that Harry being about 18 has escaped Voldemort about 5 or 6 times. I think in the end Harry ends up being the most powerful wizard. Also remember Dumbledore saying only Harry has that special power that can really defeat Voldemort.

I think Dumbledore is the powerful wizard apart from Voldemort, b/c he was the only one Voldemort ever feared and Dumbledore is brave enough to say his name. Then it would be Voldemort or Harry.

I call a three way tie. Harry is the most powerful....but he wouldn't be as powerful as he is without Ron and Hermione backing him up all the way. so Harry is the most powerful. Ron is the most loyal, and Hermione is the brightest

The most powerful wizard of all time probably didn't live during Harry's lifetime. I would guess that Merlin is the most powerful ever, since according to the Lexicon, he's the most famous. His name is used almost religiously, as in "Merlin's beard". I've got no doubt that he was more powerful than Harry, Dumbledore, or Voldemort ever were or ever will be.

As for the most powerful living wizard, I'd say that with the demise of Dumbledore, Voldemort is the most powerful. Harry may have the potential to be powerful, but he's only sixteen and he can't do what Voldemort can. At the end of his fifth year, he couldn't pull off a Crucio, even in rage at someone he hated (Bellatrix). I think AK requires more power than the Cruciatus Curse, so he probably can't do that either. Voldemort, on the other hand, can do either curse with ease. Harry may have the potential to be more powerful than Voldemort, but he's not there yet. He's not really even close.
