| | | Harry Potter Book Releases The Harry Potter novels were released spanning the years 1997 to 2007. We all have some memory or the other linking to these releases whether its queueing up to buy the books, attending midnight release parties, purchasing new merch to celebrate the occasion, celebrating on online forums etc. But just what is the purpose of this thread? We would like for you to reminisce about the activities you took part in while awaiting your first copies of the HP books! Tell us how long it took for you to get them, how long it took you to read them, did you get friends and family members involved in activities/reading? |

By the time I had really gotten into Harry Potter The Goblet of fire was the next book to be released at that time my little small town didn't have a bookstore (except for a secondhand book shop.) My parents talked to the owner of that secondhand shop they were nice enough to order a copy from one of the Barnes and Nobles stores down in Charlotte. Side note: I had gotten the first three books from that secondhand book store after I read the first one at school.
Fast forward to when Order of the Phoenix released. That summer I decided to enroll in the summer internship program my high school offered. I just happened to get the internship at the local public library. BEST JOB EVER!! The library centered their whole summer reading program around Harry Potter and the release of the newest book in the series. I was there for it all. Decorating the library, adding other exciting fans to the long waiting list to reserve the book to read, talking to other Harry Potter fanatics, and helping out the library with the activities for the release day party and the summer program. It was one of the best summer vacations ever.
Now when The half-blood Prince was released it was the year I graduated from high school, my best friend pre-ordered me a copy as a graduation present. We went together to Barnes and Noble for the midnight release. We were in line for what seemed like forever. It was probably like an hour tops, my parents got there early and saved us a place in the line so we could check out all the activities the store had. As soon as we got our copies we went back to my house and started reading I would read a chapter then he would read a chapter stop to discuss (Or Cry) and continue reading until we finished the book together which was some that day. We had so much fun that we did the same thing when The Deathly Hallows was released.

I never went to any parties or midnight releases of the books, but I DO remember very clearly when I got Deathly Hallows. I'd pre-ordered it at Borders and I remember going to pick it up at like 9 AM when the store opened with my dad And then I promptly went home and devoured the whole thing and finally finished at like 1 AM.

When Deathly Hallows came out I was about to enter my senior year of High School. I was volunteering at the public library that summer with other teens from different schools. I remember some stores getting their copies earlier than other stores so I vividly remember the code of "NO SPOILERS". One of the staff actually locked themselves in the room to read and me with the other teenagers were warned not to knock on their door so they weren't interrupted.
When I finally got my copy, I was taking my time with the book and each day I would go into the public library discussing with the other teens on how far we were in the books, who was surviving and who ended up with who by the end.

Like some of you, I didn't have the opportunity to get involved in actual events {man, those book/releases parties sounded fun} This was because events like these weren't hosted where I live. Buuuuut I was apart of SS when the final book was released and I remember all the hype! What exciting times those were!!!
When I finally got my copy of DH, I stayed up all night reading. I think I even forgot to do my school work for a day or two I got to discuss the book with all you lovelies on site; I'm echoing Joel with the 'No spoilers' thing because that was HUGE on SS at the time, and rightfully so. I also got into discussion with my RL HP- loving friends so these are experiences I'll never forget :3

I attended the Barns and Noble release parties for OotP to DH with a friend from high school.
I had to reserve 2 copies each time because my mom was reading them as well and the original releases were huge hard covers.
I later replaced my hardbacks with the paperback releases while my mom's separate copies are gone but all of the copies I own are first editions.
