"Raining." That was interesting. "Hope that'll be sorted soon. I have an umbrella in my office if you need one." Sharing was caring after all.
Cale could care less about if the rats would be ok. Would HE be ok was the question! Ah well, he'd dropped this one off and that was all that mattered. "Well, thank you again. I best be off!" he said with a smile. Yup. The raining and all that.
So he turned on his heel and headed back towards the lifts.

Well, working at the Ministry was going to be very different from the dragon sanctuary. That was something Tancred was sure about. But he was certain that it wouldn't be long until he would need to visit the one in Wales – or any of the sanctuaries in Britain, for that matter. But the first task on his list as dragon commissioner was getting to know his new boss and the other dragon employees.
If only he could find them. This was Level Four? He didn't think he got off the lift at the wrong place.
Tancred waited by the reception desk for a few moments, playing it cool with a box of some personal belongings (pictures of his wife and kids, some dragon books, a coffee mug that said I <3 DRAGONS, a hacky sack, and other items of that nature) by his side. When no one came by, he peeked beyond the desk to see if someone in the work area would notice him. He was allowed to go in there, right? He was an employee on this level. But the man remained where he was standing. Even if he did enter the work area, he had no idea where his new desk would be.

"Umm ... hello?" Assistance, please?
William was already here bright and early, meetings and such you know, and was actually considering getting his second mug of coffee for the day when he heard a polite little "hello" come from reception. Oh, new person? Well he wasn't too salty to go help a newbie out.
"Hello," he trotted over to the desk and sized up the new guy. Hold on, he knew this face... and was that a 'I <3 DRAGONS' mug? Sure was. Willy had an identical one. So there was only one person this could be....
"Tanc!" William greeted him with a friendly slap on the shoulder. "Well come on in, you goof. Welcome to level four!" He gestured toward THEIR desks, not the plant people's.

He was beginning to think that he actually had stepped into the wrong level. The man was just about to sneak out of the room as if he had never been there and go hang out in the Atrium for a bit. But then a male voice answered him. However, this not just any voice. Tancred knew this voice from somewhere. Where, though? Who's voice did that belong to? Could it be...
"Willy!" he exclaimed, a bit surprised to see him in the Ministry of all places. Since when did that happen?
It was tempting to drop his box on the floor so he could give his friend a bear hug. It had been ages! But Willy had beat him to the punch with the good old slap on the shoulder, which would have to do for now. There would be plenty of time for the two of them to catch up since they were working in the same department and everything. First thing first, he needed to get settled in to his new workplace.
After Willy welcomed him to the level, Tancred followed him past the reception desk and into the creatures work area. "Thanks, mate. I had no idea that I'd be seeing you. How long have you been working here?"
For someone who normally lost track of time very easily and ended up late most of the time, Pem was doing pretty good on her first day at the Ministry. She had woken up early just to make sure she could allow plenty of time to get there. And here she was, standing on level four, the place she had been told to go.
She could see only two people, and they looked like they knew each other. Pem now decided that it would have been all right to have brought her cat. At least then she would have known someone. Deciding that it was too late to turn around and go home to get Earl, Pem sat down in a chair and waited for someone who might look somewhat familiar. Or anyone else really.

Ember was too excited to start today. She was bouncing around like a crazy person, and this morning while getting ready, Paolo had even had to forgo his usual place on her shoulder and just watch as she had gotten dressed like a CRAZY LUNE. But Em didn't caaaaare! She was just HFIUFHIUEHFEIGHEIGHEIUGHIUGHIUHREUGH abut starting today!
Coffee didn't help.
Normally she wouldn't have dressed as nicely, but considering...first day and all...well..it seemed appropriate. She had long since abandoned the hope of matching outfits with her hair, but whatever! Blue hair, don't care, right? She sipped her coffee diligently as she walked in. She was so excited she SQUEEEEEEEEEED quite a bit....and then realized....there were two men there.
WHEEEEELP.
"Are you my coworkers?!" she cried, looking quite happy about having coworkers!"How nice! Oh my! I hope you both are having as WONDERFUL a day that I am!" she said, looking out the fake window and siiiiiighing at the gentle fake sunlight. It honestly was pretty today, in actuality. Just something else to put Ember's mood on HIGH. She turned back to them...she was a bit younger, but she honestly didn't care. Being twenty-one meant people actually took you seriously, most times, at least. And she was almost twenty-two. Right? RIGHT?
She looked down at her watch and wondered if she should introduce herself. Was it too early for that? Or should she wait? Too many thoughts, and over-thinking, caused Ember to turn briiiiiight red in the face and she just bounced a little as she sipped her coffee. Maybe she would wait. Yes. Waiting seemed the right thing to do, especially since her cheeeeeeerful hello hadn't been responded to yet.
EMBER JUST WANTED TO WORK. And be happy. And help others be happy. And help CREATURES BE HAPPY.
So much happy. O______O
She then noticed another woman and she BEAMED at her! "Hi! Hello! Are you new here as well?!" she asked. Her voice was breathless with...excitement. "I'm new! As you can see--" she giggled a little. "Only a newb could be THIS excited to come in THIS early--but that's okay! Early birds get the worm!" Ugh. And now she was that weird happy quote person..but Ember promised herself she would only allow herself to be the 'crazy happy quote person' for today...tomorrow she had to get her STUFF together and be all...serious.
HA! Yeah right.

Soon after Pem seated herself in the reception area another employee arrived. When the woman turned to her, with a super cheerful look, Pem stood to greet her. "Hello." Pem said with a smile. "I'm new, yes. Am I that out of place looking?" She asked with a chuckle. Now that she thought about it she was probably painfully out of place looking and probably reeked of newbie. "I'm Pem Sparrow, Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection." She introduced herself as she stuck out her hand. That was the proper work place introduction etiquette, right?
Was everyone this cheerful around here? It wasn't even snowing...or was it?

Alex could feel herself smiling even if she wasn't; on the inside she totally was all giddiness of a seventeen year old who just got their apparition license. And she was sure that if she felt it, she showed it, as she held onto Cole's hand pretty much the whole way from when she met him at the train station up through the ministry to their work area. "Lunch at 12?" she asked, more out of confirmation than a question. "Has anyone told you how handsome you look today?" Besides her of course, about half a dozen times.
But then she overheard two people in the reception area. Time to be professional now, because the last thing she wanted was for one of them to get fired for inappropriate workplace conduct. Oooh and did she hear right?!? "Pem? You're our new hire!" Their only one as far as she heard anyway. Dropping Cole's hand, she reached her hand out to Pem. "Alexandria Hadley. Climate controller with the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection. Have you got your job position yet? Anyone show you around the department?" Because she'd do it, if the girl wanted.

"Heh," he chuckled, "Harmony should have put in your welcome letter that I'm this floor's official greeter." Not really, but sometimes it felt like he was the only one who showed up to work. "I've been here three... going on four years now?" Wow, had it really been that long? He supposed he wasn't missing Romania as much anymore...
They could chat more while Tanc set up his new desk though. William paused on the way out of reception to get a good look at the other newbies here, some of which might be new COWORKERS for him!

Ember laughed a little and shrugged. "Not really--I just--I"m new, and was kind of hoping you were too..." she said as she ran her fingers through her hair as a nervous habit. Oh! She was in a different department--she BEAMED. "That's so cool! I'm Ember Brighten--" she said and she bowed her head a little. "I'm in the creatures department, though...so...we are floormates!" she said cheerfully and bounced a little. "I would have been happy in that department, too, though! I have a garden at my parents' place--" but she quickly stopped her jabbering because if she went on she would be on about it for hours O_________O And she didn't to...scare anyone away. Noooo. Ember was just....reaaaaaaally happy and excited.
Someone else! Ember looked up eagerly, and smiled at the woman! She was speaking to someone--it sounded like a husband or something of that sort--and she just chuckled to herself. She hoped she didn't seem...crazy.
Oh! Another Environmental person! That was cool...she didn't mind. She watched her introduce Pem and just smiled awaaaaaay, as if she did this a lot(She did) and didn't know if she should..introduce herself as well..hmm.
"Hi!" she finally said, making up her mind. "I'm not in your department--but--I'm Ember! Creatures' new person! One of them, to be exact..." she said with a bow of her head, putting her hand over her mouth in a giggle. "I do think our departments mingle quiiiite a bit, though, sharing a floor so--I don't mind meeting you guys!" She said, twirling a piece of her turquoise hair in her finger. She might explode of excitement...but nononononnoonnooooo this couldn't happen! SO she had to CALM down.
Oh Mr. Rushy Mt. Rushmore shook her head--all gruff like--and Ember just widened her eyes, offering him a smaller smile. Well then! She didn't find it rude--he just seemed busy and importantandstuff. Gah. What if she had shaken hands with a REALLY important coworker. William...Williamson? Had she HEARD that correctly--what kind of parents--
But then she remembered her name was Ember Brighten and she quickly shushed her brain. Shush, brain.
"Hi..." was all she got a chance to say, but that was okay! She'd probably attempt to talk to everyone at least once today...

Ah .... WWW was back yet again; already proving she was better than her sister considering he lasted only two years with her at Hogwarts and more than that at the Ministry even if it wasn't REALLY up to them about his length of service, but minor detail. "William," she nodded and waved back. But then it seemed he was off into the cubicles and the creatures half of the level, so no need to carry on conversation with him.

The knew Environmental employee seemed rather shocked that she knew her name? BUT in Alex's defense, she had just overheard her introducing herself to someone else when she stepped off the lift. That and she'd seen the memo in regards to the new hire.
"Of course. But you could just call me Alex. Everyone does," Alex nodded, as the younger woman went on to state her new role. Of course not Climate Control. No one EVER wanted to deal with the climate. People preferred permits or the greenhouses. But nevermind the fact that the climate was important for every day survival. "AH, you'll be working with my pseudo work sister, Jasmine! She's a Permitting Officer too. I can't really tell you too many details about the job, since I work in the area of Climate Control, but I'd be more than happy to show you around the level."

Somebody was MORE than excited to be at work today. Pity she got hired for Creatures Department; Environmental Department sure could use that energy. "So tell me, Ember, did you have an extra cup of coffee this morning, or are you always like this?" she asked curiously. She wasn't trying to be rude either. Really, she wasn't.
"But yes, our departments do mingle quite a bit. We have one common conference room and one common break room on the floor, but the work areas are set quite apart from each other, with good reason," Alex explained, to both Ember and Pem. "C'mon, I'll show you both the break room and conference room and then point out Creatures work areas for Ember, before showing Pem the work areas we'll need to be concerned with." Unofficial welcome guide, she was. But it wasn't like there was anyone else offering. Besides William, but he disappeared off to his own workspace with a new coworker of his .... nevermind that he left one new coworker behind.

So. It was a week in and all. Well...wow. Working was just--it was the bees knees, yo! She was taking her lunch break, though, going to check out all those cute little places outside in London! Ember just COULDN'T get enough of London--Merlin's beard, so cute!
She'd be able to check her phone once outside, away from all the magic--but she grabbed a zippy-bag from her backpack, pulling out the little goldfish, and munched on them a bit--YUMMEH. She LOVED goldfish--which AMUSED her because, well...FISH WERE CREATURES, YEAH? Hehehe. She nodded at the receptionist, and then--suddenly--OH NUUU!
She dropped the flipping bag--spilling goldfish EVERYWHERE. She siiiiighed and got on all fours--luckily, she was wearing jeans and a tshirt, today--and began to scoop up all the yummy, now noneatable snacks-SO SAD, UGH. She pushed them into the little zippy once more and siiiiiiighed. No more goldfish. Sad life. Ember didn't hide her...immature side, and right now, she felt five because she was sad she had no more goldfish. Could the five second rule be applied here?! Oh--but wait--there were people around--
Ember squinted.
Had anyone paid her attention? COULD SHE EAT THE GOLDFISH WITHOUT JUDGMENT?! UGH.
She pulled one out the bag and just eyed it...'Well then...just me and you, bud.." and she licked one side, shrugged, and popped it into her mouth. He tasted fine. No dirt. Nothing. Hmm.

She hadn't slept, she was throwing herself into her work again, so it was obvious to anyone that knew her that Victoria was hiding from her personal life. She had hit a brick wall again and needed to get out fo whatever it was she was in. Sitting at her desk busy as usual a thought occurred to her. She had a deal with Gavin about going to another department, try to meet new people.
So now here she was. On level four. Though she knew someone that worked on level four. If nothing else maybe she could pop in and say hello to William or Alex. Just as she headed into the reception area she noticed someone on the floor with crackers? Glancing a bit more she recognized them, she gave them to her daughters, "Do you need some help?"

She did have them all over the floor, so maybe?
Ember looked up and shook her head....um...."Well. I think I got them all--" she said quickly, though she glanced at one of the desks next to the window and quickly diiiiived under there, grabbing the fishy! and throwing it into the rubbish bin. She then eyed the rest of her snackies in the bag...right. Luckily the woman didn't know that ALL of these were JUST recently on the ground. Because. Well. She was EATING THEM EW. But they tasted fine to Ember...no issues here.
She eyed the woman up and down. She wasn't at the Creatures meeting the other day--and she most certainly--oh! She wasn't even in this department! Wow! She smiled suddenly. "Hi here--what are you doing here on Level Four? I haven't seen you around before--" she said excitedly. A NEW FACE YAAAAY! She was beyond essssited! "I'm Ember! The newest member of the Creatures Department!" she introduced herself, putting a hand on her chest and the other on her hip, holding the bag of goldfish there.
She would offer the woman some fishies but...they were off the ground...was that rude? Hmph. She didn't want to seem rude by NOT offering them--ugh--she might just have to saaaay that they had fallen on the ground, thus letting go of the chance to EAT them. Ugh. Her wide, lavender eyes just blinked a lot, looking over at the other...older...pretty woman!

Certainly the woman was throwing all those away, she knew her daughters ate off the floor, but they were a year and a half so it was obvious they would. She just nodded as the woman said she had gotten them and then her eyes widened as she dove? Where in Merlin's beard did the ministry find these people? She was thanking Mariel in her head even more for the new team members she hired. Not too young and not too... she wasn't even sure she had a word at the moment.
What was she doing? The thirty five year old gave her a pointed look. "Well last time I checked we were allowed on other departments levels and I had promised a friend I would try to learn more about other departments and meet new people." She chuckled thinking of the conversation. "He thinks I work too much, this is his way of getting me to take breaks I think." Though it was making her take a break and stretch her legs, so that he was winning.
Oh she was introducing herself, well Victoria gave the woman a smile, "Nice to meet you Ember, my name is Victoria Maroon. I'm the Quiddtich Division Manager." She would have stuck out her hand to shake but the woman was posing. Oh Merlin she'd have to remember to mention something to William.
Ember BEAMED. WHOOOH. Another department--well--how flippin' excitin'! She could have bounced around she was so happy to finally meet an outsider! Whooooop! She giggled a LOT and just tucked her turquoise hair behind her ear. She didn't want this over woman to think she was craaaazy though, so she needed to take a few deeeeeep breaths and calm herself down.
Right. In and out, Ember.
Ahhh! So..she was trying to mingle! Nothing wrong with that. Ember herself wanted to eventually mingle and make friends in other departments--which reminded her--she would have to find Derek! He had said something about working here back in the Menagerie--Whaaaat department was he from? She could probably find this information quiiitie easily. If she wanted to be creepy and be a stalker.
She chuckled. "Working too much can be a good thing--it's how we get to be productive!" she said cheerily, but she did also believe in winding down...sometimes. Hehe. "But it's nice that you are venturing out--how long had you been at the ministry?" she asked, her wide eyes blinking a lot in interest. She shoved the bag of goldfish in her backpack...if she still felt comfortable with eating them later--SHE SO WOULD.
Victoria! Maroon! oooh! "Preeeetty name. And a color, too, look at that--" she grinned. "My parents had a sense of humor--surname's Brighten--" she rolled her eyes. Ember Brighten. Good job, 'rents. Hehehe. "Oh!Importance again! Wow. So many high up people here--" she said and beamed a little. "I like Quidditch but have never gotten into it--but I like the excitement in the games and whatnot." Nodnodnod.

She was….excited, Victoria tried to keep her professional composure, but she was certainly remembering how she wished the ministry would have an age limit for hiring. Some of these right out of school youngins were just, over the top. Was it just her getting old? She feared it was at times.
She would be nice and give the girl a chance, she certainly had the wrong impression with Saxon, so maybe this was the same. Her smile never faltering, “Well yes, but it can be a bad thing as well. I’m a bit of a workaholic and ignore personal life things using my job as a reason.” Every time the girls were at their fathers, she was staying at the office as late as possible and this event was giving her the exact reason to hide. “This will be my sixth year. So it’s taken me a little bit of time to venture I guess.” Not that she didn’t know people from other departments, she did, she just didn’t randomly go to other floors.
Vic continued to smile as she said about her name. Yes, yes color, she really should have just went back to her maiden name after the divorce but she didn’t because of Bart. “Thank you, I do enjoy my first name.” Not her last so much. Sharing with a man that wasn’t faithful and a woman now that had such a reputation wasn’t her thought of fun. “It’s a pretty name though.” She did like the woman’s name. Importance, her smile faltered at this. Her three closest friends as Department Heads were of importance, she was just a manager. Though she was very proud of that manager position. It was perfect for her. “I wouldn’t say that I’m of importance or high up. There are plenty higher and of more importance. That deserve that title so much more.” She just smiled when the woman started on quidditch. She didn’t care if people liked it or not, she wanted them to like it, but knew it wasn’t for everyone.
Ember could understand that, though. She nodded as she slowly got her excitement down. "Yeah..I mean..when I was still in school, I would get that way with my school work...my poor, poor roommates," she said, shaking her head and laughing a little. The amount of times she had shut herself in her room in their dorm was...ridiculous.
The older woman seemed..Ember didn't know how to put it...sad? At least in her eyes. She wanted to hug her and offer to bake her cookies and whatnot! Maybe even babysit--Ember did enjoy children, and she thought she heard Vic say something about having them? Hmm. And wow..six years? Ember laughed. "Thats a very long time--props to you for sticking it out, yeah?" She said, beamy-beamy on her face. Her body shifted and she turned her neck to look at the receptionist desk..and waved, just to be NICEEE and then looked back at Vic, smiling. "SOrry--I just--I want to make sure people know they're noticed, you know?" she said, and she shrugged.
So she only enjoyed her first name? Hmm. "Maroon is a nice color. ALMOST what I dyed my hair instead of THIS loveliness--" she waved her head around and took a strand of the very blue hair in her fingers. "Buuuut I like turqoise--it's my favorite--" it really was. As if you couldn't TELL.
She waved her hands--pretty name? Riiigt. Stupid name. Stupid HIPPY name. Ember Brighten. Ugh. At least it fit her personality, right?
She shrugged. "but you're high up enough to be considered...important, ma'am," she said politely, smiling away and thinking about where she could eat at for lunch. Her stomach was rumbling--quietly, though--and she hadn't had time to pack lunch this morning. "The food court here good?" she asked, running her fingers through her hair.

Derek was not particularly pleased to be there, but going to other Departments now wasn't as horrible as it used to be when he first started to work in the Ministry.
The lab technician was looking down as he made his way to the reception area of level 4, but lifted his head briefly as soon as he arrived in the room and noticed two women were chatting there. He froze on spot when he noticed who one of them was and... pretty much stayed like that for a few seconds.

Still in school? Merlin she had to be young. Her thoughts went to her own employee wondering if the girl thought of school often as well. “I was probably like that as well, it’s been so long now I feel like I’m forgetting most of it.” She remembered the parts she wanted to remember, but the rest it was just childish things.
A long time? “It doesn’t feel like long I guess, but I can see where some might feel it is, though I’ve moved up a bit. Started as public relations. It was a great position though and I still love to do the work.” So that counted as reasons it didn’t seem so long. “Well it’s very sweet of you to do that. So many are self-absorbed now a days. It’s always nice to know when people do notice.” She had felt like a shadow for many years, so it was appreciated.
“I guess it is, but when shared with an ex husband and his wife, doesn’t become such a nice thing to have.” She shrugged it off, not really caring to go into it further. The woman’s hair was interesting. She wasn’t sure it was ministry appropriate, but maybe that was a thing for the younger generation. “We’ll that’s nice. I think I’d just stay with my natural color, but it’s good to express yourself.” Just not something she’d do is all, especially trying to be something in her career.
“Again that’s sweet of you.” She wasn’t going to argue over it even if she didn’t really feel all that important. Most days she’d rather just hide from the world and was glad she was that shadow that went unnoticed. She was good at what she did and she loved it, that’s all that mattered to her. [b] “Oh yes the food court is good, they have pretty much anything you’d like.”
Hearing someone come up on them Vic turned her brown eyes. Oh it was the man from last year when they were locked out. What was his name? Oh well she didn’t know it and really didn’t care to, he wasn’t he most social of people and didn’t really give her much of time before. Though she wasn’t rude, “Hello” Looking back at Ember she figured he was there to see her, since she was clearly not on her floor.
Ember shrugged. "You can't be that old, though--what--early thirties?" She didn't consider that old at all! Life was still only just beginning! All the fun stuff of being an adult and whatnot--though, most people would tell her being an adult was not fun, but Ember's independent thus far wasn't too bad. Granted, she looked at things in a bubble way most times. So of course her life didn't seem too bad.
"Oooh...public relations..that sounds fun, too! But I guess you're happy with where you're at now..or else you wouldn't be doing it!" she said cheerfully. "And yeah...I know it's like to be under-appreciated...wish it was a little more...peppy here. More recognition just for showing up and being happy! Oh how lovely that would beeee!" she cried, and she bounced a little, looking around. She wondered if Harmony would be in favor of this. She was sure the woman WOULD be. She was a nice woman!
Ooooh. Ex husband. New wife. Ouch. "Well can't you just change it back, legally?" she asked softly. She didn't think she would want that last name either. She now didn't blame the poor woman!
And then..she heard the door open..and she turned her head a bit...IT WAS DEREK OH MY! She BEAMED all excitedly and bounded towards him and gave him a BIG OLE' BEAR HUG! RAWR. "DEREK! Hi! I work here--do you remember me?! Ember! BLue hair! I have your number--REMEMBER?" she asked, all excited. She knew someone at the ministry! And he was HERE IN HER DEPARTMENT. "How's the salamander?! Is he okay?!" she asked, beamy still, and then turned back to Vic. "This is Derek! He's so cool! And THis is Victoria! She's nice, too!" YAY. HAPPINESS.

Couldn’t be that old, Victoria might change her mind about this one. She seemed flattering to say the least. “I’ll be thirty six in less than a month.” Thirty six goodness, she was going to forget about that as quickly as possible. She most days felt older than thirty six, so as long as she just didn’t think about it she was good.
“I still get to do stuff in the public relations part of Quidditch. I do everything really. It all comes through me before going to the Department Head, so I get to have my hands in all Quidditch related things.” It was busy work, but she did love it. Appreciation for just showing up and being happy? Victoria just nodded slowly not sure what else to say about it. She was fine with happy as long as work was getting done, but was she just being happy with no work? It was better not to ask.
She chuckled, yes that would be the obvious thing to do now wouldn’t it. “My son was eight at the time of the divorce and we moved from Australia to London. So I kept it for him.” That was pretty much that.
Her eyes widened as the woman hugged the man and she just stepped back and watched fully taken back. She did realize that it was a bit unprofessional to do that didn’t she? Goodness was she a happy one. Remember that shadow in the corner, yep Vic was feeling it at that moment. “Well I think I’ll be going. Good day to you.” She smiled and headed towards the lifts.

Ember pulled away quickly from Derek, and her smiley face just...fell. Did he not like it? OH no--had she offended him in some way?! She felt so awful! What if he didn't like hugs--oh dear--sometimes Ember just got so...excited that she didn't think about these things! Her eyes widened and she took a step waaaay back, nearer to Vic. "S-sorry, Derek--" she said quickly, blushing as she looked over at the older woman.
Right. This got...awkward. Fast.
And then Vic was saying how she was only 35..almost 36...still not old, in Ember's opinion, and Vic could easily pass for younger, too, heh. She seemed like such a nice, organized person. Ember supposed she was good at what she did, and she honestly wouldn't mind seeing more of the woman. She waved a bit..."I hope to see you around, Vic--I may attend that event coming up!" she cried after the woman, and just...siiiiighed, turning back to Derek.
"I'm sorry, Derek...I didn't mean to..offend you.." she bit her lip and looked at the ground, feeling....well, bad.
