:shifty:

Guess what? I'm here with a post. *Lissy hears everyone faint from shock* :faint: But it's true! :D I have a post. A little shorter then originally intended, but I decided to cut it into two posts instead of one. Anyway, I may or may not decide to do some editing here. I'm proof-reading after working two nights in a row. Haven't been to bed in more then 24 hours *yawns* So be kind. :sleepy:

Love you all! :glomp:

Potions Class

Sirius had never been comfortable attending class in the dungeons. There was just something unnatural about the dim, claustrophobic confines of the place, in his opinion. This feeling was rather heightened by memories of Azkaban, but he forced himself to push these thoughts aside as he followed his godson and his friends to their first class. He could sense a change in his companion’s demeanors as well. The boys’ animated conversation had ceased, and both wore solemn expressions. Even Hermione seemed somewhat subdued now that they were underground. Then again, Sirius figured, the mere thought of the master of this dungeon would be enough to spoil anyone’s mood. It had always spoiled his.

Inside the classroom, it became apparent that continuing Potions past the O.W.L. level was either very unpopular or simply too difficult to achieve, at least it was if your house was anything but Slytherin. Fully half the class was made up of students from the Potion Master’s own house. Of the sixteen students present, eight were Slytherin. In the center of that group, Draco Malfoy lounged casually in his chair as though he were a prince holding court, the girl Sirius saw in the great hall fawning over him possessively. The boy’s grey eyes swept over the small group of Gryffindors as they entered, a wry smirk playing about the corner of his mouth. He turned to whisper something to his companion who looked up and giggled. Sirius met Draco’s gaze straight on, an eyebrow raised in question, “are we going to have a problem here?” his expression asked.

As they took their seats, Harry and Ron glared in the direction of the Slytherins. The tension in the air was palpable, but any insults that were about to be exchanged were interrupted by the entrance of the master of this dungeon. Snape seemed to glide into the room like a specter, his black robes billowing behind him. Despite the silence of his appearance, he commanded the attention of his students immediately and without question. All heads snapped forward and awaited the professor’s first words. Sirius, for his part, did his best to maintain control of his expression and the laughter that almost overtook him. He wondered how long Snivellus had practiced that entrance. He was obviously proud of it. Sirius covered his mouth and coughed softy.

Professor Snape’s glittering black eyes bore into the students assembled, causing most to squirm in their seats. Besides the eight Slytherins, there were the four Gryffindors at one table and three Ravenclaws and one Hufflepuff sat at another. “A pitifully small class,” he observed. “And not all deserving to be here, either,” his gaze paused on the Gryffindors as he said this. “But be that as it may, I’m sure the weak won’t remain at the end of the term.”

At this comment, Hermione pursed her lips in determination and not a small amount of disapproval, Harry and Ron merely looked resigned to the fact of a miserable term. Harry caught Sirius’ look and shrugged as if to say “it will only get worse.” Sirius grinned at him, and leaned far back in his chair, so that it balanced on two legs. He mock yawned behind his hand to the amusement of Ron.

“Your first assignment will be memory potions, both to enhance and to cause forgetfulness,” Professor Snape had begun teaching. He waved his wand and the list of instructions appeared on the blackboard. “These potions are far more complicated then the simple memory draughts you attempted with no great success in your first year,” he continued with disdain. “Some of you are aware of charms that have similar effects to the memory potions, but charms are unreliable at best. There is far too great a chance of memory charms backfiring against the wizard who casts them.” Ron and Harry shared a knowing glance at this and Sirius was reminded of his own memory charm hidden in his pocket.

“There is the incident of the wizard who attempted to cast a memory charm on his own doppelganger, and to this day no one knows who he was,” Professor Snape continued. “Who can tell me the importance of the jobberknoll in potions making?” he asked at large.

Hermione alone raised her hand. Professor Snape looked over his class with no real surprise at the lack of desire to answer. His eyes rested on Sirius who continued to lean back in his chair. “Why don’t we test the effectiveness of home schooling?” he sneered. “Can our new student answer the question, Mr. Wulfric?”

Sirius shrugged nonchalantly, "the jobberknoll is a bird. You use the feathers.” he responded.

“Clearly your tutors were remiss in your teaching,” Snape attempted to move on, but Hermione’s waving hand became insistent.

“But Sir,” she said, “He is correct the jobberknoll is a bird and the feathers are used. The bird is silent all it’s life until the moment of death when it lets out a long scream that consists off all the sounds it has ever heard.”

“Miss Granger,” Professor Snape turned to her, "I don’t recall giving you permission speak, as usual. Mr. Wulfric’s answer was not complete and thus not correct. Ten points from Gryffindor for your continued lack of restraint.”

“Don’t worry, Hermione,” Sirius whispered loudly, “no one uses the potions anyway, charms are better.”

Sirius could see Snape’s famous control waver slightly as the man leaned over the desk to confront him. He had a feeling he may have pushed the professor too far this time, but Sirius met his glare, unflinching.

“Detention,” Snape growled and ignored Sirius for the rest of the class.

*Dances around madly like a fangirl*

This is by far the best written HP fan fic that I have read. You are so descriptive and precise and it just adds to the reading experience. The approach is so new and intriguing and totally captivates you right from the word go. The little hidden clues are fun too... :shifty:

aiangel327 12-16-2005 08:02 PM

Lissy!!!!! So you did post as promised!! An interesting start. I like how you keep Sirius in character by not making him afraid of Snape. Your description of Snape was very detailed. That attention to detail makes your writing so much better.

Wonderful update love! Can't wait to read more.

*quick Katy smooch* Muah! :glomp:

QuidditchChick 12-16-2005 08:33 PM

:O :O :O :O!!! *gasp*

Sorry, Lissy dear, I'm catching up. I just finished this section...

Suddenly Sirius choked on his butterbeer. The boys stopped their conversation to stare at him. Harry raised a hand helpfully to slap Sirius on the back. "Are you ok?” he asked.

Quote:

“Fine, fine…” Sirius lied, not believing he could be so stupid. He had been about to wish that he had the Marauder’s Map. An item that now lay safely in his Godson’s possession. The one object that could probably ruin this whole deception…
Holy!!! I can't WAIT to see how he manages that problem! HUGE problem! I actually gasped when I read that part. Very well done! Loving it!

*loves Amber* You take your time, my dear! I'm a bit slow!

Ha! i thought that was quite funny, i laughed.

I hate teachers who pick favorites, especially when you're not one of them. But its always fun when you're the teachers favorite. I know...I was my 8th grade science teacher's favorite last year, i even got an award for being "Top Science Student" but of course, i got As on every assignment in that class...so that might have something to do with it as well....

Quote:

The tension in the air was palpable, but any insults that were about to be exchanged were interrupted by the entrance of the master of this dungeon.
Questions, what does palpable mean? *mind is not with her at the moment*

Quote:

“There is the incident of the wizard who attempted to cast a memory charm on his own doppelganger, and to this day no one knows who he was,”
doppelganger? say what?

Quote:

“Can our new student answer the question, Mr. Wulfric?”
lol, when i first read that, i thought snape said "Mr. WulfFur" lmao, my mind is not with me today...seriously

Quote:

“Miss Granger,” Professor Snape turned to her,” I don’t recall giving you permission speak, as usual. Mr. Wulfric’s answer was not complete and thus not correct. Ten points from Gryffindor for your continued lack of restraint.”
I was wondering why snape said "as usual" Isn't this the first potions class, so Sirius's incomplete answer wouldn't be usual, unless snape knows that "Mr. Wulfric" is really sirius and is insulting him, just wondering.

Anyway, great post, i really liked it...cant' wait for another one Lissy!

Palpable:

1 : capable of being touched or felt : TANGIBLE
2 : easily perceptible : NOTICEABLE
3 : easily perceptible by the mind : MANIFEST

In other words, the tension was so thick that you could feel it in the air.

I always assumed Siry hated the Dungeons JUST because of Snape, but from taht description, who wouldn’t freak out? I never really thought Siry was “frightened” in Azkaban, but I guess it’s canon. My image of Siry being the bravest, most determined Gryff is *Cough* biased **Cough**.
Quote:

Speaking of Favoritism, <_<.
I wonder how Siry might act toward Draco at school. Harry has always been able to keep Draco subdued but I wonder what effect Siry will have on him....Muahah...:shifty: I can’t wait to find out...
Quote:

The boy’s grey eyes swept over the small group of Gryffindors as they entered, a wry smirk playing about the corner of his mouth.
That reminds me. I’ve been spending loads of time in the Movies forums on SS, so I made up a thread that talks about who members think can play Sirius. Though we all know it’s going to be some unknown actor...it reminded me of your banner for the fic...If we could find someone who looks exactly like that I’ll be pleased. Otherwise, I’m not going to watch the movie...I swear I’m going to go nutso if they don’t find the perfect actor to play Siry in Snape’s memory.
I’m almost positive you feel the same for Remus. :: Wonders what you think about Snape’s memory and reminds herself to ask you next time I stalk you on Chat :: :shifty:
[quote Snape seemed to glide into the room like a specter, his black robes billowing behind him. Despite the silence of his appearance, he commanded the attention of his students immediately and without question. [/quote] I don’t know why but almost everytime in the movies when Snape enters the dungeons, I can’t help but laugh. It seems he’s flying somehow but his robes get caught in the way so he’s only a few inches above the surface
Quote:

He wondered how long Snivellus had practiced that entrance. He was obviously proud of it. Sirius covered his mouth and coughed softy.
 :lmao: **Coughs along with Siry**
^_^
Quote:

“There is the incident of the wizard who attempted to cast a memory charm on his own doppelganger, and to this day no one knows who he was,” Professor Snape continued.
Memory Charms eh? That evil little scumbag. This reminds me of that one time when he gave students the extra werewolf assignment so that Hermione would discover Remus’s secret.
But, is there anything behind it this time? I mean, Siry isn’t dumb to stoop to his level.
Quote:

Sirius shrugged nonchalantly, "the jobberknoll is a bird. You use the feathers.” he responded.
“Clearly your tutors were remiss in your teaching,” Snape attempted to move on, but Hermione’s waving hand became insistent.
Wait, what? I knew Snape would talk about Siry’s answer whether it was right or not but last time I checked a joberknoll is a bird.. Plus, I’d never doubt Siry.
Quote:

“Miss Granger,” Professor Snape turned to her,” I don’t recall giving you permission speak, as usual. Mr. Wulfric’s answer was not complete and thus not correct. Ten points from Gryffindor for your continued lack of restraint.”
Ten for what? I was wondering when Snape was going to take points from Gryff but that was just plain dumb...Plus, I don’t want Hermie hating or becoming more suspicious of Siry. He had mucho more things to worry about. However, I also don’t want all of Gryff to hate him. I wonder if Siry might try out for Quiditch. I know he’s not much of a player, but come on, watching James practice all those years HAD to have taught him something....Any excuse to hanging out with Harry I’m sure Siry will take....
Quote:

“Detention,” Snape growled and ignored Sirius for the rest of the class.
Wow...ALready? Lmao...Siry is starting to get under his skin...I wonder what Snape will have planned for detention...He can’t have anything too crazy since Siry’s good with Dumbledore...Then again Snape knows Siry’s not the type to go snitch. Whatever it is, Siry will be smart to get through it.
Anyhoo, Sadly that’s the end....
Don’t think I’ve forgotten about the new DADA teacher or the crazy message about the Scroll Snape threw in the fire......
It seems every update you give us is still a cliffie. You ahve many more secrets to uncover, I can’t wait for another update~

I kinda see Siry as the type of person who doesn't like to feel closed in... A free spirit if you will. I don't see it as a fear (because he is very brave), just a dislike of being shut in. For example, Azkaban, how restless he was at Grimmauld, and even in POA the movie when Harry says he wanted to live in the country where they could see the sun "Sirius would like that," - I agree.

Quote:

I swear I’m going to go nutso if they don’t find the perfect actor to play Siry in Snape’s memory.

Quote:

Well... Snape was in a crabby mood... 1. Sirius is there looking like his old self, 2. Sirius is there sitting with the Griffindors, 3. Sirius is sitting very casually and in Snape's eyes looking very obnoxious, 4. Sirius got the answer right! 5. Hermione spoke out of turn... like she always does! Snape did not call on her! 6. Even worse - Hermione defended Sirius!! So he took it out on her... Until Siry (gentleman that he is) stepped forward and defended Hermoine. Isn't he great? As for the rest of your comments... *no comment*
