Cranville Quincey's Magical Junk Shop

https://i.postimg.cc/FR2ktQjh/cranvi...-s-banner5.jpg
Located on the south side of Diagon Alley, sandwiched in between Sugarplum's Sweets Shop and Janus Galloglass, is Cranville Quincey's Magical Junk Shop. The outside of this shop is nothing spectacular. A cardboard box labelled 'FREE STUFF' (containing bits of parchment that have already been doodled on and various items broken well beyond repair) rests on the cobbled street, serving an indicator of what kind of establishment this is.

Just beyond the door lays a maze of numerous bins, shelves, and racks holding various items with price tags tied onto them. To the left of the shop is where all second-hand clothing can be found for those who don't feel the need to purchase the pricey fabrics and accessories being sold at Madam Malkin's or Twilfitt and Tattings. The back is reserved for all kinds of books and reading material. Of course, they aren't nearly as top-quality as the ones Flourish and Blotts and other bookshops, but the amount you'll be paying for them is quite a bargain. Lastly, the right side of the shop is where you will find a large variety of miscellaneous items. Take your time browsing through these items as not even the shopkeeper remembers what all is here.

When you are ready to pay for your newfound treasures, make your way to the counter in the middle of the shop. On the counter itself, you will find a till and, oddly enough, a rubber chicken substituting as a bell. Typically the rubber chicken doesn't need to be squeezed as the shopkeeper is usually sleeping at the counter. But, in the event that the shopkeeper isn't around, give the chicken a good squeeze and he will be right over.

for sarahhhhh

Cameron was supposed to meet Natalie outside of Sugarplum's but he had wandered off a liiiiittle bit while waiting for her. The box labeled "free stuff" had naturally caught his attention and he was now standing in front of it, eying it curiously. Was there anything useful in there? Who had these things belonged to? Or HAD they belonged to anyone? Were they second-hand or just...broken upon arrival?

Also, was this shop new or had he just never noticed it before?

So many questions and at this point Cam had 0 answers. Was he really allowed to just take something? Although, why would he? He really needed a lot more information on the items before he would take something. For now, he simply poked at some of the pieces of parchment with the backside of his wand. Huh.

Natalie was in a GOOD MOOD.

It was summer, it was warm(ish), it was NICE(ish) outside and she was FREE from Hogwarts' latest shenanigans. It had never felt so good to be out in Diagon Alley. She had a positive outlook for the time being, so she was taking it as far as she could.

And that meant hanging out with her friends. Her relationship with Cam had been... rocky over the last couple of years, but she had finally let things mend themselves over the last several months and she was happy with where they were at. After all, he made her brother very happy.

That's who she was on the lookout for that day. She had her hair in a braid and she was wearing shorts and a crop top, FULLY embracing summer as she walked down Diagon Alley to find him. She was just approaching Sugarplum's when she noticed Cam, except... he wasn't at Sugarplums. He was looking at a dodgy cardboard box outside of a shop further down.

Natalie continued walking until she got closer to him and the shop that she... did not recognize. She squinted at the sign and made a face at the box. "What is this place?" she asked aloud, making her presence known. Looked like a bunch of junk.

Maybe there was some hidden treasure at the bot-

Oh.

Cam had been so focused on the parchment and other items in the box that he hadn’t heard Natalie approach him. “I don’t know?” But he was CURIOUS. He didn’t like not knowing things. He was the person with the answers usually. Standing up straight again, he squinted at the shop for a moment before finally turning to look at Nat. “Hey.” He smiled. Summer suited her.

The Irishman was still not used to this whole getting up early thing. He was very much a night owl, which wasn't exactly the best match for someone who was the now owner of an easy-to-miss shop that had been around in the alley for who knows how long. Today was another one of those days that Cranville Quincey's was being opened well after its posted hours.

One day the doors would be unlocked on time. ... Maybe. ... Likely not. But better late than never, aye?

Clad in a black tank top, a faux fur coat, and sunglasses, all of which he totally snagged from inside the shop, Ryan pushed his way through the crowd (not caring a bit about the looks he was getting for wearing a fur in the middle of a hot summer) and approached the junk shop and the couple of kids that were gathered around the cardboard box.

"'Ello you lot," he greeted them, unlocking the door with a movement of his wand. Were they coming in? Whether they were or not, the man didn't remain out in the street for very long. He had a nap to take business to run.

Soon after a mangy crup, which easily could have been mistaken for a stray had it not been wearing a well-worn collar around its neck, showed up. All the smells in the alley had been a huge distraction, causing his nose to go bonkers. Eventually it lead him to his master's shop and...

HELLO, HUMANS!

Tail wagging and tongue stupidly sticking out of his mouth, the crup trotted over to the two and started invading personal bubbles. Sniff, sniff. Sniff, sniff, sniff. Sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiff.

It had been sheer curiousity that made Dorian step foot inside the store. As someone from a poor family, the Ravenclaw usually pretended to have more than enough money and he had been far too embarrassed to even be seen near a discount shop. But for some reason he wanted to know what it looked like from the inside and he had come to realise last year that he didn't care what people thought of him anymore...

Opening the door, he wasn't surprised by the sight of the shop. The maze with numerous bins and whatnot was something he had expected. Closing the door behind him, Dorian looked around, not knowing where to start. Deciding on the clothing section, the fifth year turned to check it out. Maybe he could find a decent belt? Cause he really needed one. He was NOT going to buy a cloak though or anything else big and noticable. He'd be laughed at for months.

...apparently he did care what others thought of him.

"Hello," Natalie replied with a smile to Cam when he stood up. It was good to see him outside castle walls.

It was safe to say that neither of them knew what this shop was or when it had come to existence or what its purpose was. Though, when Natalie finally squinted up at the sign above the shop, she realized. It was just junk. Just as she suspected. Suddenly, the door of the shop opened and a man emerged from it, wearing the strangest outfit. Natalie blinked at him.

But THEN she was distracted by the scraggly little crup that came out right after the man and a GASP escaped her lips. "Cruppyyyyyy!" she squealed as the animal circled and sniffed them. "Hello, little guy. What's your name?"

Giving Natalie a big smile, Cam was about to say something else when they were joined by a man who......apparently turned out to be the shopkeeper of this strange new shop. Or at least he owned a key. "Hello." Cam echoed the man's greeting as he watched him enter the shop. Were there more broken things inside? In the wizarding world, broken didn't necessarily mean unmendable after all.

So surely, there were people out there who had some use for those items.

Too busy staring at the now open door, Cam hadn't realized that the man hadn't come alone until he heard Nat gasp. A crup. How cute. "Liam wants a dog, you know." It was the first thing that came to his mind as he watched the two interact.

emjay 12-18-2018 12:08 AM

What... was this?

Gunnar slowed his gait as he neared this shop on his way to get his books. Even though it basically looked like the shopkeepers of Diagon Alley were having a rummage sale outside this storefront, it looked far more interesting than getting his school books. And he was sure he'd never been inside. He needed to see what sort of treasure lay inside, because this definitely looked like the place that would hold some kind of hidden valuable just waiting to be found.

He gave the "free" box a cursory glance, seeing nothing of immediate value, and headed inside. Surely there was something interesting in here?

Zoe 12-18-2018 04:00 AM

All of you! <3

The crup's head jerked upward when the sound of the gasp hit his ears. Was the sniffing too much? Should he go away? For a moment the tail stopped wagging, but then it continued moving at rapid speed. The human girl seemed to like him! And she wanted to know his name!

A loud, playful bark left his mouth in response to her question. Benji. That was his name, if the humans by any chance happened to understand crup.

He then sat down, his head tilted to the side, tongue still sticking out. Pets? Benji LOVED pets. Thump, thump, thump went his tail on the cobbled street. He was waiting oh so very patiently, human friends!

Ryan was making his way through the maze of stuff to get to the counter in the middle of the shop. As he passed a few shelves and leapt over a bunch of random items, he heard Benji barking outside. It was nothing the man was concerned about, however; the mutt was more than familiar with the alley and was known to be friendly.

So the man just carried about his business. After removing his faux fur and setting it aside, he made himself comfortable on the chair behind the counter and was about to kick up his feet and enjoy a nice nap when...

Customers. Two of them.

Briefly peering over his sunglasses (because he was too lazy to take them off to be frank), he saw one boy was heading for the clothes and the second had just entered the building. He gave them each 'sup nods and that was that. The man wasn't the type who watched their customers like a hawk as he believed in letting people rummage at their leisure. He'd be hanging out at the counter if they needed him.

Yeah, Natalie basically just ignored the human that ran the store. The crup was certainly more important exciting and cute. And it seemed to like her too. Crups had grown on her over the years, as had many other creatures. She didn't want one, though. Because fur.

So that was why her nose wrinkled a little when Cam mentioned that Liam wanted one. "Really?" It wouldn't have been a big deal if it weren't for the fact that Natalie wanted to live with Liam after Hogwarts. She didn't want CRUP FUR on her clothes!

Natalie gave the crup some more scratches behind his ear, not able to translate his bark into anything other than "I'M CUTE." He was pretty cute, though.

It was his mother's fault and she should've known better.

This was the excuse he would give should either parent give him grief when he got home much later than he'd been expected and likely without any of the things he'd been allowed to go to Diagon Alley alone to collect. School shopping sucked. It sucked with his parents too but they kept him on track. Moving into his FOURTH year, Kodee had made the case that he was old enough to do this alone......but someone should've known better.

That someone was not him.

It didn't take too long for this shop to catch his attention and he'd already been halfway through this junk when he saw one of his best mates walk in.

"GUNNAR!!" He yelled, waving him over eagerly. "Yo! Gunnar! C'mere! Good timing, mate! You gotta see this!"

Cameron leaned against the wall of the shop, careful not to bump into the free stuff box, and watched Nat with the crup. Again, they were nice from afar but he didn't quite understand the fascination with them. Or dogs. Or cats and kneazles for that matter. Nat clearly disagreed with his assessment of the creatures though.

As did Liam.

"Mhm." Having been this close with Nat for years now, Cam obviously noticed the way she'd wrinkled her nose at what he'd said. But he couldn't quite figure out WHY. She clearly liked dogs, right? "He said so." Why did she disapprove?

See, Natalie was complicated when it came to animals.

Standing back up with an overly dramatic sigh, Natalie dusted the crup hair off her hands. "Crups are cute, but I don't want to own one. They're hairy and smelly and you have to walk them and clean up their poo." And that was gross and time consuming.

"Besides, even if it was Liam's and he took care of it, I would have to deal with the crup hair all over my clothes." Which was in fact what she was plucking off of her shorts now because she had paid so much attention to the little devil. Heavy pros and cons. Mermaids took care of themselves, but it wasn't really allowed to keep them as pets and Mooncalves were the cutest of all, but she would have to have a whole herd of them, and, well... that was a lot of work. Now if Derf had a little herd of Mooncalves, she would go visit them all the time...

Cameron...had NOT expected that answer at all.

Which was why he was all the more glad to hear it. "Right?" So glad Nat agreed with him about the disadvantages of owning a pet. A pet which shed fur, specifically. He wouldn't mind owning a...turtle or something. Not that he wanted one. But that would definitely be a lot less work. Liam, on the other hand, had looked extremely excited about the idea of getting a dog, however.

So.....they would probably get a dog, then.

"What are your plans for after graduation?" Cam realized he didn't know, nor had he asked before. At least not recently. And plans changed. Quite frequently too sometimes.

This place was....weird, but in a cool way. Though, was it really cool? Gunnar wasn't entirely sure yet. There was either some amazing treasure hidden and just waiting to be found, or it was just a lot of junk. But he intended to find out.

He didn't get far into his search, or far into the store for that matter, when he heard a loud, familiar voice calling his name. "Kodee... hey," he grinned, turning towards his friend before walking over to him. "What is it? Did you find something cool?" If anyone could find something interesting in here, he was sure Kodee could. And he grew almost as excited as his friend sounded.

She was glad to hear Cameron agreed with her about crup hair, though, because she was going to live with them after Hogwarts. So, maybe the majority would win and they wouldn't have to deal with crup hair everywhere.

Looping her arm through Cam's, Natalie tugged him towards the sweets shop. "Well, university. Wherever Liam goes. And I'll be living with you two." Assuming the two of them were still a pair, which was a thought she did not voice out loud. Come to think of it, she wasn't sure if Cam had been made aware that Nat had invited herself to live with Liam and Cam. But if he hadn't, he knew now!

The tail continued to wag and thumb with each pet. Benji was in crup heaven on earth. The only thing that would have made it better was if the humans had treats to give. But he would take the petting for now, for he wasn't a greedy dog at all. He just loved people and smells and being loved.

And then the petting stopped. Aww. The crup's head tilted to the side, watching the girl pull little crup hair from her clothes. She was going to go back to petting him when she was done right? Even the boy got a look. Would he pet him too? The girl had done all the petting these past few minutes.

Sadly the petting didn't continue. The dog watched as the girl tugged the boy and went on their merry way. Benji let out a sigh, but then, smelling new smells that hadn't registered in his mind until then, wandered into the shop and let out a playful bark. HELLO, HUMANS! PETS?

Though there were a few customers present, Ryan was seriously considering taking a nap. All they were doing was rummaging, and the kids that were in there looked trustworthy. Well, as about as trustworthy as kids could be. But this was Cranville Quincey's. He didn't expect anyone to steal from a junk shop of all places. That would be a whole new level of low.

He was about to close his eyes for a moment when one of the kids started yelling. For Merlin's sake. Didn't this kid's mother teach him some manners?

Ryan was going to shoot the kid a look, but then Benji trotted on in and started barking. "Shush, boy," he said to the needy creature that he had taken in. There were customers in the building, and he didn't want them running off empty-handed. Being an adult wasn't all it was cracked up to be. He had bills to pay, you know.

Carry on with your browsing, gents. The shopkeeper was staying put at the counter, only occasionally glancing over to see what they were up to.

There's some very loose mentions in here

He didn't get far into his search, or far into the store for that matter, when he heard a loud, familiar voice calling his name. "Kodee... hey," he grinned, turning towards his friend before walking over to him. "What is it? Did you find something cool?" If anyone could find something interesting in here, he was sure Kodee could. And he grew almost as excited as his friend sounded.

Kodee was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet by the time Gunnar came over to him. There was SO MUCH useless stuff in here and he wanted it ALL--but one thing at a time. The now Fourth Year was about to toss the item in his hand in favour of another but then his friend asked and he HAD to show him. Proudly, the Gryffindor raised the broken deluminator.

"Check it out. We get this fixed and it's hellooooo sneaking through the corridors at night. Take all the lights and we're set. Won't even need an invisibility coat--unless they have one--hey mate, help me look for a coat. All this junk, they gotta have one, you know we could have snacks in the kitchen ant midnig--sneak off to snogs girls--well, I suppose I'd only sneak off to snog Mackenzie, otherwise she'll be mad at me agai--NO WAY, MATE, LOOK!"

Ignoring his school mates present (Nat and Cam) while moving close enough to them, Kodee threw himself on the ground. "SOMEONE THREW AWAY A CRUP!! Gunnar, Gunnar, come on! Let's keep him!" Shopkeeper behind the counter watching them? What shopkeeper behind the counter watching them? The young boy had already tossed the old deluminator in favour of the crup he was now showering with affection. "He's friendly, I don't think he'd mind."

The young boy had already tossed the old deluminator in favour of the crup he was now showering with affection. "He's friendly, I don't think he'd mind."

It was rather obvious to the fourteen year old that Kodee was quite pleased with this store. Gunnar knew his friend to be something of the excitable sort, but his friend looked like he was absolutely about to burst, causing Gunnar to grin a bit as he looked at the broken deluminator.

"Hey, that's actually pretty cool. I'm sure we could figure out how to fix it." Gunnar reached his hand for the pocket-sized device, and was about to say more, but he really couldn't get a word in edgewise. In fact, he could just barely follow along with Kodee's train of thought as it seemed to veer all over.

An invisibility cloak would be even cooler and he opened his mouth to say so, when the other boy shouted, causing a slightly startled Gunnar to whirl around with his eyes wide, trying to see just what was so urgent. "What?"

Oh.....it was a crup.

Gunnar grinned a bit and crept closer to where Kodee had thrown himself on the ground near the canine. "Hey, buddy," he greeted the crup as he petted his head. He did seem awfully friendly. "He looks like our Oggy." Not a crup, but a Jack Russell terrier, and they looked similar. "He probably belongs to someone, Kodee. We can't just take him." What was he doing in this junk store anyway?

Zoe 12-29-2018 11:16 AM

The moment he was spotted, Benji stopped his barking and set his behind on the floor. His head tilted to the side, his tongue hanging stupidly out of his mouth. He was playing the adorable card again. It was his go-to move if it meant he got pets or treats out of it.

Thump, thump, thump went his tail when the two boys started giving him all the attention a crup could ever dream of having. Needless to say, Benji was a happy crup. He liked these boys very much.

In return for their affection, Benji gave them each big slobbery crup kisses.

Now that Benji wasn't barking, everything had seemingly gone back to normal. That was enough for Ryan to consider taking that nap he had wanted earlier. In fact, an arm was on the counter now, his head resting against it, his eyes slowly closing...

And then he, surprised by the sudden yelling, jumped right out of his seat and grabbed the rubber chicken sitting beside the register that was meant to be the service call bell.

WHAT. WAS. THIS. ALL. ABOUT.

Chicken still held in his hand as if it were a wand, the man approached the loud boy and his friend. He arrived just in time to hear the loud one say something about his crup being thrown away and that they should keep him. "First of all," his voice interjected, "you shouldn't be bloody shouting in my shop. And second, that is MY dog, thank you very much."

DaniDiNardo 12-29-2018 12:04 PM

A crup! Just what he wanted (as of the last 3 minutes or so)!!

His mum would probably let him keep it...if he begged.....and pleaded....and cried.......nevermind, but that was fine too. All he had to do was keep it quiet until the train. Once it was back at Hogwarts, he'd find some other means of keeping it around. The barns maybe. Wayland wouldn't mind.

He snorted at his friend's wise words. "Gunnar Gunnar Gunnar, this is a junk shop. He's walking around the aisles like this." Kodee scooped the little crup off the ground and held him toward the Slytherin, moving his little paws to paw at his friend. "Does this look like the face of a crup who belongs to someone? He's saying take me home, I'm free, woof woof woof, freeee."

Huh?

Kodee looked up when the voice intruded his crup monologue, his brows raising at the rubber chicken in hand. Actually. "Is that free too? Can I have it? I've never had a rubber chicken before, reckon I could get up to all sorts of nonsense with it. Rory would hate it, Jolie too but she thinks she's too cool for everything--hey d'you have a second one for my mate too? He wants one. You want one, right, mate?" Pause. Nod. "Yeah, he wants one." More pausing to look down at the crup again, ignoring the whole no shouting in the store thing because there probably hadn't been a sign maybe....who knew. "Yours? Can I have him, too? Is he free? I have 5 galleons in my pocket, but if I give them all to you mum will be angry--oh Merlin will she be angry. Last time she sent me shopping alone, I got lots of candy--tricks too. Say, d'you have any tricks in here? Are they busted too? What's his name? Can I feed him?"

OH BOY HIS OWN CRUP!

emjay 12-30-2018 12:30 AM

Gunnar laughed at the crup's slobbery kisses, edging his face just slightly away. He had to admit he was awfully cute. And....maybe Kodee was right. Maybe he was just roaming the junk shop looking for a buyer, along with the rest of this stuff. He grinned as the Gryffindor pawed the pup's little feet at him.

"Maybe... but I sure can't take him. Not after our whole kneazle plan last summer." It worked out in the end as he still had Wolfgang and had been able to keep him, but he was sure that would not work another time. Didn't need to push his luck. "You should probably make sure though..." Because even though he was really cute and he honestly wouldn't mind them taking him, someone might get awfully upset if he really did belong to someone and they just took him.

And that someone seemed to be the shopkeeper.

Uh... Gunnar froze a moment, staring at the man while Kodee chattered on. Wait... what? A rubber chicken? His eyes fell on the rubber chicken in the shopkeeper's hand. "What would we...?" He started to say to Kodee but wasn't able to finish that question before his friend confirmed that he would want one too. Yeah, okay, sure... maybe he'd get one if there were some to be had.

And Kodee was talking. And talking. And talking. And so many questions. Playing it cool, Gunnar interjected once his mate took a breath. "Sorry... we just didn't know he was yours. He's really cool though, what is his name?" And now that they knew he had an owner, it was not likely that the crup was leaving with either of them. But hopefully they wouldn't get kicked out of here now too.

Zoe 12-31-2018 05:23 AM

Laughter, crup kisses, human scooping him up and moving his paws around. This entire moment was one of pure bliss. Benji was a very happy crup. His goofy crup smile, tongue hanging out, and wagging tail was proof of that. All that was missing were the treats!

He couldn't understand anything the boys were saying, but it sounded EXCITING.

And then his master came. He did seem too happy. The tail stopped wagging, and Benji looked at the man with sad cruppy dog eyes. He hadn't done anything wrong. Promise. He was just making new friends.

It was at this point Ryan realised that he was holding a rubber chicken of all things in his hand. His wand was supposed to be there, which had been left behind on the counter. Bloody hell. He probably looked absolutely ridiculous right now.

Not that the kids seemed to have noticed. One of them wanted to take the latex mold along with his crup. But that was quickly forgotten as he was trying to keep up with the kid's train of thought. The kid was all over the place and just kept on blabbing. The man could feel a headache coming on.

Thankfully the other kid was drastically easier to follow.

But in the end, no matter what was said, Ryan had answers to give. "The crup's name is Benji. I have treats behind the counter if you're interested, but he is not for sale." Just to make that clear. "And neither is this chicken. If it has a price tag on it, then it is for buying. If there is no price tag, it stays put. And, yeah, I probably have tricks somewhere, kid. Got a lot of things here, but only Merlin knows where they're at." Things had a habit of being moved, and he had more important things to do than organise everything properly.

Catherine liked going to Diagon Alley, as it was one of the places she knew there wouldn't be any Muggles, so she didn't have to be careful with what she said and what she did.

Not that... she could do a lot of magic yet, but... well, that wasn't the point she wished it was, though.

She followed her mother through the streets and stopped when the older witch came to a halt to have a look at some street stand of sorts. Catherine wasn't interested in whatever her mother was looking at, so she momentarily looked to her right and saw an... awful looking shop. It was a true mess. Yuck. The girl wrinkled her nose as she stepped closer to the window to see what in the world all of that was supposed to be.

Diagon Alley. All by herself! Roma Leigh Bracken felt like one powerful girl today. She had been able to convince her papa to allow her to explore the alley on her own. It was her birth month after all and, with the right convincing skills, she could easily persuade anyone that nine years old was a mature age. She only had a few days left. Adjusting her coat and hugging herself as she walked through the crowd, which wasn't as large as the shoppers during the summer (she loathed crowded places), Roma found herself at the south side of the street. Her brown eyes scanned the names of the various establishments until they fell on the signage that advertised free stuff. Of course, as psychological as it may go, low prices attracted many customers. How much more when something is free?

Roma took a closer look into the box and made a disgusted face at seeing a broken....was that a broken teapot? Why would anyone want that? It absolutely had zero use to both wizards and muggles. With her gloved hand, she reached inside and picked up an obviously ripped paper off a notepad. It had a name written on it and doodled hearts surrounding the name.

Must have been owned by a disgusting teenager. She was sure of it. If it were possible for this paper to have any smell, it would have stank of hormones. Ew.

As Catherine was looking throw the display window, she noticed from the corner of her eye that someone was rummaging through a box.

She sent whomever that was her usual side-eyes as she observed... a girl who seemed her age. When said girl lifted a piece of parchment, Catherine couldn't help but finally turn her head to have a better look. That was when she noticed the name with several love hearts drawn around it.

The young brunette pulled a disgusted face at the sight because it was all very disgusting. A ripped piece of parchment in a box full of actual rubbish. Why would anyone want anything from there!? Disgusting!

Catherine's gaze went from the parchment to the girl holding it to see what she was going to do with it.

Still holding the paper, Roma inspected it for any other trace of writing and there was nothing. It had only been doodled with a name and all those mushy hearts. To her, it spoke volumes of how the teenage mind worked. And she did not like it. Not one bit. After making one last quick scan of the paper, Roma dropped it back into the box. "Gross..." she said to herself. The paper no longer interested her, and the workings of a teenage mind weren't anything that appealed to her either. Did the minds of Lucy and Finlay, her only teenage cousins, work that way too? It was so weird. Teenagers were so weird.

The brunette looked back up and scanned the other awful things in display. How were the owners of this shop able to pay rent here? Did people actually buy things from this shop? Roma was baffled. It was only then she saw her reflection on the window, along with the reflection of another girl near her. She turned her head to the side and looked at the girl, whom she was aware was around her age as well.

With an eyebrow slightly raised, Roma hesitated before greeting her with a "Hi." Mama had always told her that staring at someone for too long was rude.

Catherine quietly approved of the other girl's reaction to the piece of parchment, although she simply kept watching her. The girl has even stated her feelings verbally, though Catherine could tell she thought it was gross just by the way the girl was looking at what she was holding.

The small brunette now side-eyed the shop as the other girl looked at the display window as well, but her gaze soon was back on the mystery girl as she said 'hi'.

Catherine blinked, slightly taken aback she was being spoken to by a stranger. She studied the girl for a few seconds before gazing back down at the box, only to look back up at the girl. "Hi." She finally said, keeping her eyes on the girl whose name she didn't know.

She had also been told staring was rude, but Catherine did a lot of it anyway. She was doing it again, in fact. This girl seemed alright, as she so far showed she knew bad things from good ones, so Catherine wasn't going to send her judgy looks. She was simply observing the girl and sometimes looking through the display window again, wondering if the girl was going to pick something else up to look at.

That bird cage looked ghastly, by the way.

Hmm. Apparently this other girl wasn't a talker. Roma didn't mind. She herself didn't really talk to strangers either, and had only greeted the other girl because she had stared at her for more than five seconds. It would have been weird. So when the other girl replied with greeting too, Roma was slightly taken aback as well. She instead looked back at the shop displays.

Broken wands. Red remembralls. Very tattered trousers. Magazines from Merlin knows what year, perhaps they were even older than Roma herself. She had no idea why she was even scanning them. Not likely she was going to beyond anything from this shop.

Taking one last gaze down the box filled with useless parchments and broken-beyond-repair objects, Roma looked back again at the girl and said nothing verbally. She just looked at her for two seconds, an unspoken invitation to head inside as well, before walking into the shop. The brunette wondered what other horrendous things they had for sale in here. There had to be better things than broken teapots inside.

As Catherine looked inside the shop, she felt the other girl was suddenly looking at her again. At first she glanced at her from the corner of her eye, then she turned her head to see what the girl was actually doing when... she went into the shop after a moment of silent communication.

The eight year-old's curiosity had now been triggered, and after looking over her shoulder at her mother, Catherine walked into the shop after the other girl.

Immediately making a face (was it just her or it smelled a little in there?), the little girl looked around with a disgusted look. Without touching anything, she moved inside the shop, but always staying near the door. Catherine sent suspicious looks towards the counter every now and then because that was indeed a very weird shop. Dodgy looking, even.

Ew, who would ever buy hand-me-down clothes?? "Gross." She muttered under her breath, sending all the judgy looks at those rummaging through the clothes.

One of the bent animal cages caught her attention, though, and Catherine moved closer to it. Bringing her face to the same level of the object, she studied it for a few seconds. Who would put their pet in something like this?

Who in the world would ever buy anything form this shop!? Catherine would never even take anything from there for free. Yuck.

Roma was mistaken. Despite hating it when her judgment on everything was deemed wrong, she would personally admit at this moment that she truly was mistaken.

There was nothing better than broken teapots inside. In fact, when she entered the shop, everything just seemed a lot more worse than from outside. The books, she would let be. Some literary texts were rather costly at Flourish and Blott's, though she highly doubted the books in here had complete pages or were of readable quality. Other than that, all other items in the shop were unforgivable.

When she turned to the left, Roma made a face and eyed all clothing for sale. What was she supposed to do with a holey pair of socks? Or a ripped pair of gloves? None of those would help anyone survive the winter, and winter was coming. The brunette tried to keep all her comments to herself until she saw a pile of worn underwear on display. Worn underwear. People have used those. She couldn't help but RETCH LOUDLY at the sight and thought of anyone using...someone else's....ugh. Ew. Disgusting.

.........And why was there a rubber chicken on the counter? Was that for sale too? This shop was outrageous.

Thing was... Catherine was actually horrified. The clothes? The clothes!!?? She couldn't get over that. Ew! Who would buy (and wear!!) something that had already been worn by someone else! And she bet some of those had belonged to grubby, snotty boys too. Eeewwww!

Her gaze followed the other girl's when the other kid retched and she noticed she was looking at... hand-me-down underware!! No wonder. Catherine's usual judgy neutral expression was nowhere to be seen as all that was plastered on her face was a look of utter disgust. She didn't retch, though, because that was too loud for her liking. Also she was sure people would look at her if she did. Not really what she wanted, really.

Shaking her head, she turned away before she saw someone actually touching the old, used underware with the intention to buy them. Ew, ew, ew.

Her attention moved back to the cage as the other girl looked towards the counter. Catherine bet they also had fish tanks, but they were probably broken or something. Probably in a state no one would be able to use them. Merlin, what a useless shop. She shook her head again, although her more judgy neutral expression was back on.

Should she touch it? She wasn't sure. What if she caught some sort of disease? Or what if it broke even more? What if the shopkeeper thought she was about to steal something? Catherine couldn't have any of that happen. So she didn't touch it. She simply looked intently at it, almost as if trying to make it melt with her hard stare.

Sadly she wasn't great at wandless magic... yet.

Ew, ew, ew.

The retch was intentional, but how loud it came out was purely involuntary and even Roma was unimpressed with herself at how audible it had been. Do better, Roma Leigh.

But when another customer actually had the audacity—Roma loved using big words that she just learned or read off somewhere—to pick up one of the underwear. The brunette strongly disapproved given there might be sanitary issues with that. Not that she doubted these kinds of shops didn't make sure of it. She highly doubted, to be honest. Turning away from it, she scoffed and went to focus on some other less horrid displays.

What was that sound? Ultimately removing her attention from the rubber chicken, Roma could hear a faint whistling sound from the right side of the shop. Curious, as always, she followed the sound that was slightly annoying her because it kept going on and on non-stop. Until she found the source of the whistling and it wasn't a person—it was a sneakoscope. Roma picked it up and was half tempted to throw it away because she didn't think anyone would be a broken and loud sneakoscope.

She was thankful she wore gloves today. Can't risk getting dirt and filth on her fingers with all this stuff in here.

With it not being the busy shopping season in Diagon Alley, Ryan gladly took advantage of the many opportunities he had to sneak in a nap here and there. Today was no different. In fact, business had been so quiet that day that he had retrieved to the private area in the back and fallen asleep, leaning back as much as he could in the sole office chair with his feet propped up on the desk.

Was he concerned that he would be robbed? No. If someone had the audacity to steal from a junk shop, then they were clearly desperate. And there was no way anyone was going to run off with anything in his cash register very easily. Was sleep more important than the potential of losing out on a few sickles? Yes.

Nevertheless, the door was cracked open, but the ringing of the shop bell had gone unheard. Deep in sleep, the man carried on with his dream as he occasionally snored.

Benji had been sleeping too, right beside his master. The crup, though, had a far better sense of hearing and his head immediately shot up the moment he heard movement coming from the main part of the shop.

Sniff, sniff, sniff. His nose registered the smell of unfamiliar humans. Tongue sticking out and tail wagging, the dog went to go investigate. First his big head pushed open the door just a bit more, then he snuck the rest of his body through.

He continued to sniff until he saw the two lady humans. Benji noticed that one of them was holding something in her hand. Thinking she wanted to lay fetch, he suddenly barked at her with excitement. PLAY! THROW! HE WAS READY! The fact his tail was wagging violently now, knocking over a few items, was proof enough of that.

Catherine's had stare was broken when she heard the other girl scoff. She looked at the other brunette curiously because that sounded like something her father did sometimes. It only made Catherine study the girl some more.

That wouldn't be the only noise in the shop, it seemed. And no, Catherine didn't mean the thing the other girl was holding. Was that a puppy? Her brown eyes widened as a crup came out from the door behind the counter, making her hard expression soften considerably. If one looked closely enough, they might even notice a slight hint of a smile on her lips.

The crup seemed like it wanted to play and as it looked and barked at whatever the other girl was holding, Catherine's gaze followed it as well, as she wondered what the girl would do next.

Roma was definitely silently judging the shopkeeper for being asleep. That was an easy way to get shoplifted. However, given the state of things and had she been the shopkeeper, she wouldn't mind people just getting things from here. For free. That was against the basic concept of a business but there was probably nothing one couldn't pay with a few galleons from their wallet.

....Except the shopkeeper was lucky he had a crup as company. To save him from shoplifters, of course, but that was a real crup. Roma had always wanted one and even asked for one for her birthday, but Mum and Dad wouldn't allow her to have one yet. The boredom in Roma's eyes was instantly wiped away, and it was replaced with a little light of enthusiasm. She couldn't have one, sure, but she could...play with one. Her dad wasn't around to stop her.

And the cruppy was looking at the Sneakoscope. Interesting.

Unable to find a suitable toy for him nearby and selectively ignoring that his forked tail was knocking things around, Roma looked at the cruppy again. "...Do you want it?" She wiggled the sneakoscope in front of him, hoping he would come closer to her.

The shopkeeper was a really heavy sleeper, wasn't he?

With all the training and studying, Emilia didn't have much down time to just...be. She liked the constant action, the busy days that ended in her crashing on her bed only to wake up and do it all again. Today though, Emilia craved something else. She'd accompanied her grandmother to her appointment and then left to explore the alley, no real destination in mind.

The junk shop piqued her interest almost immediately, her love of old jewelry pushing her to slip inside and look around. The brunette removed her hat, thin fingers combing through her long hair as brown eyes scanned her surroundings. This was a place she could get lost in for a while and she was looking forward to seeing what she could find.

The shopkeeper was a really heavy sleeper, wasn't he?

Ryan shifted in his sleep, still managing to miraculously not fall out of the chair and onto the door. Then again, his mid-day naps weren't an uncommon thing. One could argue that he was a professional at napping in arguably one of the least comfortable places one could think of. Even before owning the shop, he had years of practice of napping in some of the oddest of places.

The crup's bark did register in his mind. But, unsurprisingly, the. man figured this was all part of the dream he was having. Even if he knew he wasn't dreaming, Benji was barking all the time over every little thing. So he did not budge an inch from where he was in his office area.

"Zip it, Benji," the man murmured in his sleep before carrying on with another snore.

Did the crup notice that it had knocked over some merchandise onto the floor? No. Did he care that in the shop were total strangers and his master was still sound asleep? No. Was he going to listen to the murmuring that it had heard coming from the back room? No. Benji had his heart and soul set on one thing right now: playing.

Sneakoscope, a plush toy, a balled up pair of underpants, whatever they had on them and were willing to throw, Benji was ready to play. He was overdue when it came to getting all that energy he had in him out.

Another bark sounded in response to the woman's question. Yes, he wanted it! He panted excitedly, drool dripping on the floor, as his tail continued to wag, wag, wag. He gave the other woman a glance as well. Did she have anything for him to play with too?

With the Quidditch World Cup just days away, Ryan was, for a change, being strategic about some of the items that he was selling. Many, many hours had been spent scouring through the piles and piles of junk, looking high and low for any Quidditch memorabilia that had seen better days or any items that would be beneficial for those that were staying at the campsite.

So far, a table near the counter had been set up, a sign reading "GET YOUR DISCOUNTED WORLD CUP ITEMS HERE!" Spread about this table were cracked Omnioculars, a few Sneakoscopes, various toy brooms (of which he wouldn't recommend flying above a foot off the ground), a number of old books about past Quidditch players, some bent trading cards, and a number of faded country flags.

Ryan had just come across a well-used tent that had been packed and tucked in a corner to add to the table when he noticed someone, a lady at that. "Hello, hello. Need help with anything? Looking for anything specific?" Of course, just browsing was fine. But he had pills to pay too, so the shopkeeper hoped she'd eventually be walking out with something.

"Hey." She'd just located the accessories and was looking over a beat up watch that reminded her of her dad's when she heard the shopkeeper and looked up, offering him a smile. "I guess I'm most interested in the jewelry, something gently worn." Most of the pieces looked like they'd been put through the ringer, at least at first glance. Setting the watch down with the others, she turned fully and considered the man, hoping he could help her find something that didn't look like it had been accidentally run over by the knight bus.

It took a while for Ryan to notice that the young lady standing there in front of him was holding some beat up watch that she likely had plucked from the mess of accessories. His main focus had been on that smile of hers, which he knew was her likely just being nice and everything, but it made him forget about that tent he had spotted a while ago and smile back at her.

"Jewelry, you say? Gently worn?" he replied to her. He did have plenty of gently worn things here, if one had the patience to look long and hard enough. "You've certainly come to the right place. Only downfall is that you have to dig around and, with a little luck, you'll find whatever it is you're looking for."

Luck indeed. There were mountains of accessories to sift through. Earrings (most likely without a pair, but you never know), sunglasses (he was wearing a pair he had found a while ago, so quite reliable if you asked him), necklaces and bracelets, anything you could imagine was there ... somewhere.

"Any specific kind of jewelry in mind?" Otherwise they, because he was willing to help her search if she wanted, could very likely be there all day.

A magical junk shop? Elsa HAD to see what this was all about. She hadn't had a chance to do any shopping in this Diagon Alley place last year, since they'd still been in Japan at the time. So she was doing quite a bit of exploring this year - and this seemed like a GREAT place to start.

She walked in and began to look around, her eyes immediately falling on the jewelry. HMMM. So this was like a muggle thrift shop? But with some magical stuff too? Interesting. Maybe her dad could find some useful stuff for his business in here as well...

Shanners 04-15-2019 01:08 PM

School trousers... she needed school trousers and she needed school robes. Maybe someone at school could fix them for her. She couldn't go into Malkins to get this stuff without questions or coming into contact with a measuring tape and being touched. As she entered the shop, Odaline took the final bite of a sandwich she had pulled from a bin outside before wiping her mouth on the back of her hand.

She perused the place, the location of the robes and the trousers and a possible exit route when she had to run with them.

She just needed to be back at Hogwarts.

"I don't mind the search. Part of the fun, yeah?" Her mouth quirked and she moved on from the watches, her gaze once again surveying the merchandise. It was a bit like going on a treasure hunt, this was, and she enjoyed the challenge.

"I like necklaces. Perhaps a locket, if that's something you think you might have." She had one of her own at home, but she didn't feel right wearing it anymore, the picture inside of it too painful to look at. It was a reminder she didn't need.

"Where should I start?"

Elsa was not usually one to have conversations with random strangers in random shops, but something about the girl nearby...stood out to her. Elsa was SURE she had seen her at school in the common room, which meant she was a Slytherin. Elsa hadn't exactly done the best job of making friends with people in her house. She had Ransom, sure, but other than that...no one, really. She thought that she had been making progress with Nina, but she was too busy focusing on her brother. Also, the girls dorm had basically been caught on fire and Nina had been in the middle of it. She didn't blame her for not talking to her after that even though she wasn't involved.

Long story short, Elsa needed more friends. SO...

"Cool stuff in this store, huh?" she asked the girl.

Looking up from the trousers she was currently inspecting, Odaline shook her head. It wasn't cool to be broken or cool to have holes in. And it wasn't cool to have to buy these things because you couldn't pay for whole versions of things. "No." Simply put, it wasn't cool.

And Odaline simply did not have time for this girl who thought it was cool.

"Broken. Ruined." She showed the hole in the knees of the trousers to her before putting them back. Maybe she didn't need trousers that might cover her ankles after all.

Junk shops were full of curiosities, and Nova's mind was always curious, so it was only natural that she would step inside Cranville Quincey's during her trip to Diagon Alley. Her books had already been purchase, and she hadn't grown enough to warrant new uniform, so the rising sixth year found she had more than enough time to browse the shelves.

Even though most things everything within the shop seemed to have been well used loved, it didn't put Nova off. Books that had been read countless times and left with tattered covers and thumbed pages were often most interesting, and the jewellery was rather unique and pretty. As the latter caught her eye, she put the autobiography she'd been scanning under her arm and moved across to the bracelets. Maybe she could get one for Willow and Alexander.

Valencia enjoyed browsing. She had some extra pocket money if something struck her fancy, but she was perfectly happy just checking out all the stores to see if there was something she liked.

She was looking at bracelets when she noticed a girl about Connor's age. She didn't care much until she noticed the book the older girl was holding.

"There's books here?" she asked excitedly, looking around. The young Ravenclaw's eyes and face were lit up and bright.

Nova had settled on a worn leather band with green stitching for Alexander, and was looking at the dainty silver bangles when she heard the voice. The excitement for books was definitely something Nova appreciated. She thought she recognised the younger girl as someone from her own house, and offered her a smile before pointing over to the shelves where she'd found the books.

"They're a little worse for wear," Nova warned, even offering the book under her arm out to show the younger girl. "But most of them have all of their pages."

Valencia's eyes were still lit up when she glanced in the direction of the shelves. This. Was. Lifechanging.

"That gives them more personality, don't you think?" she asked excitedly. "I've always wanted to own a secondhand book. The thought of someone holding the same object and scribbling their own notes in the columns is truly amazing."

Of course, she was aware that not everyone who owned books wrote their own thoughts in them, which was probably why she didn't own any second hand books -- she didn't want to ruin the magic if (when) it didn't live up to her standards.

Islay had stood outside of the shop for a moment before heading into Granville Quincey’s Junk Shop, the junkshop, that junkshop was full of absolutely wonderful things. Broken things, weird things, and things tha she could make into different things.

Picking up a ragged shirt she just turned the old fabric over in her hand. Maybe she could figure something out about this? Maybe…she was going o do it. She was going to pick up somethings and see what she could make out of them.

Granville's was a shop Cole had never visited before, but after watching a brunette about his age enter it he followed suit on impulse. Stepping into the shop he realized that it was really a junk shop. He had thought it just was shop for weird stuff but everywhere he looked there we're broken and odd things.

Walking over to the table with miscellaneous items he watched from the corner of his eye how the brunette picked up a ragged old shirt from the clothes table. Randomly Cole picked up the red coloured rememberall from off the display table and held it up towards the girl. "Shouldn't you buy something red and pretty instead of a worn and ragged shirt?"

itsjustjesse 12-22-2019 05:16 AM

”Shouldn't you buy something red and pretty instead of a worn and ragged shirt?” the voice and the question had almost startled Islay. The idea of getting something pretty had just made her chuckle.

With a slight turn of her head she simply looked at the boy and his broken rememberall… ”those could be rather horrible and brilliant gag-gifts for people” she pointed toward the rememberall in his hand – pausing she just looked at him for a second taking in his features as she tried to remember his name. She had learned it last year during school of course.

…it had a V in it. She knew that much v…v…Vance? VANCE that was it! ”…I was thinking of making a raggedy old toy for my dog Wiggins – he’s been a little off since moving” she was smiling at the blonde. ”you’re Cole right? I don’t think we properly met last year…I’m Islay”

She chuckled! Why did the girl chuckle at his pretty comment? Was it funny? Cole was bewildered because usually girls and pretty things we're meant to go together like bananas in skins. Before he got the chance to say something more the girl turned her head to look at him and the rememberall he was still holding in his hands. Forgetting the pretty red for now he raised his brows curiously at her. "Really? How can it be made a gag-gift?" Just wondering. It wasn't like he was going to pull a prank at school to risk getting detention.

Cole took in the girl's features for real this time, aside from the brown hair trying to place her name. She was in his house that much he knew for a fact. Luckily the girl beat him to akwardly guessing names. Nodding he affirmed with a smile. "Yes I'm Cole. It's nice to meet you Islay." But he had the strange feeling that he'd come to regret it. "That's a nice thing to do for your dog. Where did you move from?"

David Truebridge was, per usual, wandering around London and not doing anything important at all. Today his wanderings had taken him into Diagon Alley, and over to the bin marked 'FREE STUFF' by the door of a certain shop. He had passed by this junk shop on occasion, but not being the sort of person to collect junk meant that he usually ignored it.

But today, today he felt like going inside. His patent for the Roomba 3000 had just been approved and so he was feeling particularly joyful and ambitious today (not that his face would have given any of this away). He didn't touch anything in the FREE STUFF bin and avoided the (presumably) musty second-hand clothing on the one side of the store. Instead, he busied himself with inspecting a load of gears and bits and bobbles that were together in a box, his profile visible through the front window of the store.

Interesting items they had here, hmm. Anything useful?

One thing about being just on the cusp of being famous was that she had little need to continue all the various odd jobs she had acquired while trying to help Jerry make rent on their flat. Only whenever she thought about dropping any of them - minus the waitressing - she felt a peculiar void begin to form in her chest. Almost as though these odd jobs, some more thrilling than others due to their associates and them tapping into her animagus abilities were tangible to her existence and without them she would be less of herself.

It was inconvenient. Truly.

It was on behalf of one of those associates that she entered the junk shop today, though she was also looking for anything that may serve as a prop on set as well, and her pale slender fingers were just reaching for the knob on the door of the shop when she caught a familiar face inside. Thankfully his essence was not of the off putting variety, unfortunately he had left an entirely different impression upon her that haunted her thoughts at the most inopportune of moments. Breathing in the fresh air of the street, Valerie stepped inside and approached him from behind.

"I had never taken you of the sort to be drawn towards the steampunk aesthetic," she mused a bit while gliding to a stop beside him, one of her long pale fingers slipping through one of the holes in one of the gears to lift it and wear it like a ring as she examined it in the dusty light. "Or do you have a talent for metal charming that you neglected to inform me of during out last meeting?"

David was startled, to put it mildly, by the sudden appearance of the celestial being beside him, and even more so when she spoke to him in a normal, nearly positive tone and everything. Well well. Had some things changed in her life since their last encounter? He presumed so. Steampunk aesthetic aside (what even WAS steampunk???), David wasn't bothered by her popping up, but he was as wide-eyed and staring as ever.

"Not to brag, but I am an alchemist," he replied, not in the least bit humble about this brag. She did not need to know that he had literally just received an owl yesterday morning informing him of this new position, but it was, loosely, the truth. David's eyes flicked from the gears on her fingers to her uber-pale face. "I have a lot of talents you don't know about, Miss Gray."

Alas, finding whatever he'd been hoping to find in this box was not one of those talents. David drifted down the aisle some, winding further into the shop and onto the opposite side of a shelf full of trinkets.... made from glass? Now this was interesting. He gave one glass whirligig a gentle twirl with one of his narrow fingers, admiring the way it refracted the dusty light of the shop.

sweetpinkpixie 06-22-2020 06:57 AM

The differences between their meeting beside the trash can and now were jarring for certain. For one she was not coming from a job she had just been fired from and that alone had her in a very different disposition. A more, dare we say, pleasant one? His awestruck gaping was noticed. A jarring similarity and one she was not particularly fond of. Did she need to pick your tongue up from the floor, David Truebridge?

"Which is not the same thing as metal charming," she pointed as she used her free hand to flick the gear around her finger and watch it spin around and around. "Rather than imbue metal...you transmutate it." Did she agree with his assessment that he was 'not bragging' about the superior study? She would keep such sentiments to herself for a bit longer. Though the coy little smile that tugged at the edges was not one rooted in amusement nor sass. "As do I, Mister Truebridge. As. Do. I." Her pale grey-violet eyes shifted from the gear that had now come to a still around her finger and to his features. Flicking her finger downwards suddenly, she allowed the gear to fall back into the box in front of them.

As for herself, she continued to sort through the box of copper and golden trinkets a bit more and collected in her palm a few old keys for her own personal appeal before pulling a list out from her pocket and glancing it over. Nothing from it could be found here, but she did find herself drawn to the cracked phials and ceramic pots. "Have you transmuted any alloys recently, David Truebridge?" she called over her shoulder to him while spinning one pot in particular in her hand as her finger traced the various cracks. "... gold, silver, or platinum?"

BanaBatGirl 06-23-2020 03:47 AM

the devil works hard but the SS censor works harder

If Valerie were to touch David's tongue in any capacity, he might not have objected, depending on the nature of the touch... but as it remained firmly in his mouth (at the moment) she really had no opportunity to handle it. What a shame.

"Indeed it is not," he replied, amused already by her and her impressive vocabulary. It was rare that he came across someone who seemed so well-read, or at least, someone with similar niche interests (so far as he could tell). "Correct," he nodded, continuing his assessment of the glass whirligigs. They were so....random and curvy, not at all what he was usually drawn to. But he was considering purchasing one now, maybe even a few broken ones, to repurpose them for a garden project.

Hmm? He glanced toward Valerie as she spoke and then realised she was again addressing him. "I have not," he admitted with a small sigh. "But I hope to start tackling something along those lines soon." Who knew what mysteries awaited him at the Ministry?! He was so eager to get started. Davie took a few steps in her direction and couldn't resist a small...question for her.

"Have you transfigured any moose lately, Valerie Gray?" His mouth was twitching with self-amusement. "Of the homosapiens or Alces alces kind?"

sweetpinkpixie 06-26-2020 12:46 PM

lololol

Such thoughts were simply deplorable and she would not entertain them. Much.

"So then I fail to see the parallel between my question and your need to inform me that you have gained the status of an alchemist for the Ministry of Magic," she mused a bit to herself as she pushed a few other pieces around to search for something else she may find aesthetically appealing. "Perhaps that is one of these talents to which you speak? The ability to draw connections between the disconnected?" Even as the words parted her lips she was disgusted with herself and truly did not want him to respond to her inquiry.

Her eyes rolled a bit when he spoke next as an air of disappointment shifted through her fingers as she ran them along another deep crack in one of the pots she had picked up three times now. "Only of the blaberids variety," she smirked while setting the pot back down, selecting another idly, but soon returning that one to the shelf and picking up the first once again. Something about it was calling her to it, clearly. "Have you ever heard of Kintsugi, David Truebridge?" She may as well include him in her thought process. It was no idly chit chat nor for some seedy business that she had inquired about the transmutation of alloys.

BanaBatGirl 06-27-2020 05:04 AM

heavens

David blinked and put his hand to his forehead, automatically pinching the small space above his nose but betwixt his eyebrows. He did this sometimes even when he wasn't wearing any glasses. "When did I reveal that to you?" he asked, partly puzzled by her statement about the Ministry and partly just... just mentally needing to steel himself for something resembling a conversation with the strange one before him. Was this going to be a conversation or was she annoyed with him already?

He had wandered closer to her and her pots without really intending to, but here he was. "But I do draw connections easily." It was true; it was one of his personality traits, this ability to take in information and maipulate use it to his advantage. As though to prove this, he gestured with a light swirl of his index finger to the pot in her hand and then up toward her pale face, tucking this pointer finger back in his pocket quickly. "For example, your mentioning of... what, mending pots with gold?" It was an imperfect translation and to tell the truth, he knew NOTHING in-depth about kintsugi. But he had, at least, heard of it.

On the topic of Blaberidae, he tilted his head and wondered, "Do you like Kafka then?" Funny, he didn't think Americans were that well-read. Wisely he also did not say this part of his thoughts, as he did not fancy reacting The Metamorphosis inside Cranville Quincey's Magical Junk Shop today. Even if it was a suitable stage for that short story. Unless, of course, Valerie would be playing the role of Gregor... heh...heh...

sweetpinkpixie 07-01-2020 04:47 AM

Her amusement was huffed under her breath while tucking some of her silky white hair behind her ear. "You did not. But an alchemist in London is quite a rare oddity with limited options. I assumed and you confirmed." Plus her moonlighting with the Owl Post provided her with certain opportunities for information. A detail he did not need to know about.

She was not sure what to make of his finger pointing other than she did not like it. Not one bit. Her eyes may have even narrowed a bit as he did so but she was able to tone down her irritation in favor of conversation. He should consider himself lucky as it was a rare opportunity she offered most. Something about David Truebridge had struck her more profoundly than she would like to admit and even now he continued to do so. "Golden joinery. The characters are for gold and patch or inherit, respectfully." Though he was not incorrect in that being another English equivalent, though it was for a different word. "And what connection is it that you have made regarding that?" Was he about to pretend to make an association between her and the form of repair? Hopefully not. She would hate to think that he was able to read her so easily...or understand her.

Her lips curled into an almost pleasant smile, though would have been quick to correct him of her Canadian birth were she to hear him call her American. "The Trial," she found herself nodding. "I found it the only compelling read." Though she had read the others as well, yes.

BanaBatGirl 07-07-2020 05:41 AM

Fine, he would allow her to win this one, since she wasn't wrong. He almost rolled his eyes at Valerie though. Did she know she had a tendency to come across as insufferable know-it-all? It takes one to know one, after all.

It was rude to point, he knew that. He really needed to stop doing that, particularly pointing at people. "For what purpose are you going to need these pots?" They were junky, broken things that he wouldn't even pot simple herbs in, unless he had to. "I'm sure you're not here for the thrill of the purchase." No, he thought Valerie got her kicks elsewhere... and he had seen the list she'd glanced at earlier. So he was curious, yes, if she was going to do something impressive with them.

Ah, she liked that one. It figured. "Things just happen to his characters, out of the blue," he mused. Reading Kafka was like seeing a nightmare come to life on a page sometimes. He didn't find it relatable, usually. But it was interesting that Valerie did. "The only compelling read?" Really, the only one? "I would have thought you'd favor The Metamorphosis."

sweetpinkpixie 07-09-2020 02:27 PM

She was perfectly aware that people had the tendency to react unfavorably to how she spoke. Aware and unfazed. It was not as though she were placed on this earth to seek the approval of others anyway and she had always indulged in marching to her own beat.

So David Truebridge was not as good at making connections as he prided himself on. "Kintsugi," she simply repeated as she added the current pot in her possession along with one more that had likewise caught her eye. "I had thought that was obvious. Though if you are referring to what I intend to do with them after, that is something I will consider later." She had plenty of her own private supplies and home grown herbs that she could use them for. Or perhaps something else entirely. "No. I rarely find shopping to be a thrilling experience. I was here on an errand." She was certain that film crews had people who did this sort of thing for directors rather than the actresses, but for whatever reason the crew was particularly hesitant in making selections for her and the director wanted her to feel as authentic as possible.

His assumption, which was not false, tickled her interest and she turned to face him properly. "I am curious as to what makes you think so?" she asked upon wetting her lips and then taking a moment to lightly gnaw on her lower lip. Had she suddenly found herself concerned with how he perceived her? Possibly. It was a very very slender possibility.

David O. Truebridge was perfectly adequate at making connections, thank you very much. "Yessss," he repeated slowly, as though Valerie were a bit thick, "I was referring to what you will do with them later." Obviously. Had that not been obvious to Ms. Queen of Making Connections and Snobbish Remarks? He scoffed lightly at his own thoughts and looked down the aisle past her, his blue eyes focusing on an odd gear display that nearly looked like a skeleton. Mmm. Was this a deliberate display then? Why did it appear to be grinning at him? Were those the spokes from a Muggle bicyclergy being incorporated into the design? Is that what it was called, a bicyclergy?

Yes, he could tell the shopping bit about her, see. Another point in his column, thank you again. "An errand? From whom?" Not that he cared to be this nosy, but Davie had found that asking Valerie pointless questions was a good way to bring out her prickly side, and he did so enjoy seeing her cactus-like tendencies. He hmmed to himself, eying her lips when she licked them and then returning his bright eyes to hers.

"Well the sudden bit of transfiguration seemed like something you'd enjoy reading about," he pointed out lightly, amusedly. "Maybe even something you'd try on someone." No, David was NOT suggesting that she turn him into a cockroach. She'd already attempted partial animal-human transfiguration on him and he wasn't exactly keen to try it again.

sweetpinkpixie 07-21-2020 02:52 AM

Did he really just do that? Did he really just use that tone with her. If looks could kill, David Truebridge, you would be in trouble right now. However, as it were, she was feeling a little more forgiving in the moment and still found herself enjoying his company...for whatever reason. It was surely a fluke of sorts. She followed his gaze towards the gears and allowed her own pale eyes to linger there a few moments before shifting them back to him and his profile. He was a curious creature, particularly the bend in his brow now as he scrutinized the display.

"The director of a small indie film I am starring in," she said with an air of disdain. She still could not believe that she had found herself so heavily involved in this scene. She was sure there would be a follow up to this so she attempted to beat him to that punch. "There is a scene to take place in my character's bedroom and he requested that I find items to best suit my aesthetic. As well as any other items that may feel fitting. The production team's master of props has been...disappointing, to say the least." She did not catch the manner in which he had observed her and that was perhaps for the best.

She did not need additional thoughts piling up on preexisting yearnings.

"Yes, well, when such transfigurations are a part of one's day to day existence and overall existence...there comes a certain disenchantment when it becomes a plot device. Much like how when one turn's a hobby or passion into a profession one looses their affection towards it. Turns it stale." Her eyes bore into his a bit, recalling quite fondly the smart set of antlers she had bestowed upon him. "You say that as though you believe I have not already done so. That is kind of you."

BanaBatGirl 07-23-2020 03:14 AM

David was deliberately not looking at her again until she spoke. A... film though? She did films? He was rather surprised by this, and it showed in his slightly parted mouth as he listened, and then realized he was gaping at her, and closed it.

"Oh?" Oh ho ho, a scene in her character's bedroom. Yes, do go on, please. Describe the aesthetic she was seeking. "Your aesthetic? So are you playing yourself, then?" He was amused now, incredibly amused by this unexpected reason behind her shopping. Of course she was the sort to find flaws in everyone else employed on the set, mhmm, no surprises there. But really, if this wasn't a biopic, then what was her character like? This was so much more interesting than debating... er, who were they discussing again?

Kafka, that's right. He stared right back at her, unflinching in his cool gaze. "That is a fair observation." Regarding the idea to turn one's hobby into a profession; such advice that had been given to him many times, and generally he had ignored it for this very reason. And also because he didn't really need to work, did he? Work was just another pasttime that meant he could, at last, rest on his own laurels instead of on an inheritance. It would be a fine use of his time, he supposed. He might as well give it a try like all the plebs in town.

His mouth twitched into a genuine smile at her last sentence. "What did the poor sap do to deserve it that time?" Please, tell him the full story.

Thea and Ever!

She'd spent pretty much every day in Diagon Alley since summer vacation started and they had officially moved into their new little town home, but it still felt like there was SO much she could explore and so many more people she could meet prior to the start of school. So far, she actually liked the London area. And she'd met quite a few intriguing people and was hopeful she'd have some friends by the time the term actually started so she wouldn't feel quite so alienated.

Because really. Who wanted to transfer for the beginning of their sixth year? She'd had so much time with all of her peers at Beauxbatons, and truly it was lovely there. All magical craziness and all.

Today, the store of choice was what appeared to be a magical thrift store. Which definitely sounded like a whole lot of fun to her. Entering into the store, she headed directly to the old jewelry section to see if she could find things she could upcycle for herself. Or even if it wasn't something she'd want to wear, some projects to take with her to school or to do on the train probably wasn't too terrible of an idea. She picked up a couple of pieces, examining them closer to determine if she had an idea for them or not.

She apparently did films. Though there was a part of her that was hoping it never made it off the cutting room floor whenever it was they entered editing which was still months away according to the schedule. She caught the gaping though this time she felt little irritation because of it. She knew how shocking it came across and she was equally as baffled.

"In some ways," she replied with a shrug. "The director spotted me at a party and would not take no for an answer." And she had tried, truly, and the financial offer had not been something to turn her nose up at. Her and Jerry had been managing but her having one steady and legitimate job was certainly a bonus. "It is still very much a work of fiction. The first edits I demanded of the script were that my character's blood status as a Veela be rewritten." Absolutely not. "Apparently the main character being a no-maj has enriched the story."

Staring back at him, Valerie decided that David Truebridge had rather handsome eyes. Handsome enough for someone who had the uncanny knack of infuriating her with the mere blink of an eyelash. "He was disrupting my studying in the library during final exams. Much more quiet as a cockroach."

She gazed upon him once again, her curiosity tickled a bit more and finding herself to be feeling...moderately pleasant enough. "And what is it that you have to do after you have finished your business here in this shop?"

Everest was..scanning the alley for anyone he knew. Basically he was looking for Chloe. He hadn’t seen her all summer, and though she had mentioned going to the US.. surely she couldn’t be there all summer right?

He didn’t know why he was so uneasy when he thought of her lately, but he had gotten a sick feeling in his stomach the moment he had gotten home and it hadn’t left! Not even dancing had managed to take it away.

He was leaning against a bench when he saw Gilly and his blue eyes lit up a bit as he remembered their meeting earlier that summer. He smoothly moved upwards and did a little spin as he headed into the store after her.

“Fancy meeting you here. ” He said in his thick Scottish accent, that by rights he shouldn’t have, but he adored his mothers so much he had adopted it and now he was stuck with it.

Besides, girls dug guys with accents!

So far, she actually did have an idea for each piece she picked up and examined. It would require taking each of them apart and creating brand new items but... thankfully she'd found three or four bracelets where the pieces looked like if they were all scrambled together they'd end up being quite lovely. And maybe if they ended up looking good, she might present them to her new dorm mates as a bit of a hello when she finally got to the school.

Because yes. She entirely was a kiss up and hoping to be liked.

She was just picking up a pair of earrings to look at when she could hear a welcome accent behind her and she turned with a smile on her face. "Everest!" She giggled softly, "Hmm, did you by chance notice me in the street and follow me into the store?"

A girl could wish.

Ahh there was a smile. He leaned smoothly on a rack which thankfully held his weight as he looked at her. Otherwise that could have been embarrassing!

Ever gave her his natural half smile as she spoke. “Hello Gilly. How are you? ” he asked and then gave her a bit of a smirk as she spoke again..

He gave a pretend dramatic gasp and stood up straight and pretended to look around. “How.. did you know I did that? Were you following me.. following you? ” He teased her. “Or do you have your spies that gave you a signal so you could pretend to act surprised.. and yet.. the smile seems real..” He grinned as he poked her cheek.

“Hmmm.. yes it’s real. ” He put a finger on his cheek as if he was pretending to be stumped..

“Well, I guess you can just read minds then. That’s all there is for it. ” He said as he gave a little twirl and smoothly leaned on the rack again.

That smile AND the accent? It was just not fair. "I'm doing wonderful, Everest! And yourself? What brings you to Diagon Alley today? More dancing in the streets?" Or perhaps looking for his friends. Or maybe he was actually starting on his school shopping now -- something she was delaying on since it made school feel so much closer.

She set back down the pair of earrings she'd been looking at earlier, using her hand to stifle a giggle at his antics. His dramatic game was strong, which said good things for his future career choice. "Perhaps I had noticed you and came in here just to see if you'd follow? Sure fire way to test it, you know." She did not, but it was still fun to pretend. Also, that would be smart in the case she really ever did think someone was following her. "But for your information, I DO have eyes everywhere. It's a thing." She was like her own version of Lord Varys -- Mistress of Whisperers.

NO. She was NOT blushing again at the poke to her cheek. It wasn't real, he just... smudged some of her foundation and that's why she looked pink. That was IT. "Perhaps I knew but I was still just happy to see you?" MAYBE.

Mind reading? She definitely would be into that if she could do it. She'd had a conversation with some classmates regarding that exact thing some time ago. "Real question -- Mind reading. Exciting or Troublesome?"

David was interested, and tempted to ask if he could come to the screening of it. On a scale of a mlid eye roll to hexing him into a new species, how annoyed would Valerie be if he did request that? Heh.

"What a classic love story," he remarked sardonically, not even attempting to hide his smirk now. In what world did Valerie not stand out across a room? She had certainly caught his curious eye, though for reasons that were likely different from some sleazy director. "Some people would consider it flattering to be cast as a Veela." Honestly, lucky her. The most common comparison he received was to a tree frog or common toad. Of course this went without saying. He also had no opinion on the no-maj plotline, offering the slightest of shrugs from his bony shoulders. Muggles were just... in existence. Nothing exciting about them, though they did offer entertainment from time to time.

Well. He stared back at her, nonplussed by this excuse. "He did deserve it then." One could not disturb others in the library without expecting consequences. Libraries were one of the holiest, happiest places for this Ravenclaw, and deserved the utmost respect.

Oh, him. "Nothing, to be frank," David glanced away from her and towards the colorful bits of glass that had caught his eye earlier. "I came in here hoping to find some inspiration for how I spend my next few hours." And had he found it? Hmm....

WHY did her parents think she needed her brother to still watch her in the Alley? They survived being ghost she was sure no one was coming to kidnap them in Diagon Alley, come on, who would do that? Wasn't there some rule that Hogwart kids were not allowed to have danger in the summer, because of the school year? If not she thought maybe she would write to the minister to have it put in.

She was going to make the best of it no matter what though. She wanted to have fun even if her older brother was with her, so bouncing into the building she made her way towards the hats. "I'm going to buy the biggest ugliest hat here and wear it around." She didn't know why, it was just how she felt at the moment.

Why was he put on kid sister shaperoning duty? Why couldn't dad or mum watch her? Jackson much rather wanted to go look for and hang out with his friends from school, than be stuck watching after his annoying kid sister as she bounced from shop to shop. He supposed that he was there to protect her from evil and shady criminal people and accidents, but that didn't mean that he couldn't huff silently about it. Hiding a sigh and an eye roll from his sisters view since he did actually love Gemma, Jackson followed her bouncy stride into Cranvilles. He headed over to look at the comic section while Gemma looked at the hats on sale.

Jackson was looking at a muggle comic about donald duck when his sister's voice reached his ears. Looking over his right shoulder at Gemma he asked curously. "Why on earth do you want to do that? A ugly and possibly smelly old hat won't get you any new friends." But probably a lot of LOOKS and comments..

Strangely enough, the junk shop was one of Avalon's favorite places to visit in Diagon Alley. Minus the musty old closet smell, of course. Although she didn't find much use in the lopsided scales and holey cauldrons, the clothing section always proved to be unique. Not that she would dare wear any of the ghastly, stained garments out in public on their own. But she loved picking up interesting fabrics for her latest fashion designs. The fabrics at the typical fancy shops in London were just so overdone. Last summer, she had found an old pair of silver dress robes for only 3 galleons! Even though there was a huge hole in the armpit, Avalon was able to salvage the material and turn it into a beautiful, shimmering dress, which she gave to her sister for her birthday.

The soon-to-be fifth year weaved her way through the racks of clothing, pausing here and there to run the fabrics in between her fingers - the foolproof test of fabric quality, according to her mum. She stopped in her tracks at a lavender-colored trench coat. It had a massive butterbeer-colored stain all down the front and smelled like mothballs. Lovely. Although she couldn't help but imagine a repurposed version, with a brand new storm patch and fancy lapels....

Everest grinned as Gilly played back with him, his smile was bright and he did another little twirl before leaning ever so casually back on the rack.

“Ohhh, well that is a good way to test it.. or perhaps I noticed you, noticing me, noticing you, and decided to call your bluff? ” He said with a soft chuckle as he looked at her and adjusted his bangs just a bit, to make himself look that much cooler. “Oh? Well I’ll keep an eye out then, wouldn’t want any rumors to get back to you. ” He said with a wink back towards her.

The blush was adorable and he couldn’t help but feel a bit enchanted by it.. so much so that he forgot what they were talking about.. “Ahhh., yes, well I mean who wouldn’t me happy to see me? ” His arrogant words were belied by the soft look in his eyes and the half smile he sent her way.

“Troublesome.. for real. I mean, can you imagine if you heard people’s private thoughts? That would be awful.. people don’t say things for reasons. ” He said with a nod.

"Oh please Jackson, what do you know about friends." She rolled her eyes at her older brother. She had no real clue all his friends since he was older, a different house, and she was so wrapped up in her own world she didn't pay much attention, but it was her brother how cool could he really be? "I won't be getting it to make friends, it's a statement. I'm here, I can do what I want, and it could be a fun discussion starter." Laughing she continued to walk around the shop.

"We could get you an old smelly tie, then we could walk around together. Your tie could be like neon colors or something that would really pop." She could never see her brother agreeing to it, but it would be funny to see him wearing one. "Maybe we should buy dad one. He'd never say he doesn't like it in front of us, just thank us and stuff, but his face will show if he doesn't really like it." Dads did that, just took the dumb presents and said thank you, moms did as well really.

"O_M_G we should buy all of us weird and ugly things then take a big family picture. Mum would go nuts!" What a brilliant idea, she was now on a new mission.

Gemma was infuriating. She always knew what to say to yank his chain so to speak. Before he could stop himself he slung back at her. "I have friends. I just don’t blabber about them all the time to mum and dad like you do." Perfect now she was going to want names. He technically didn’t really have friends; they were more acquaintances so far. And he had a small and secret crush on a girl in another year but Jackson was so not going to share that with his too nosy sister. Shaking his head he said "I doubt the hat will be a good conversation starter," It would probably make other students go circles around her to avoid the smell but Jackson wasn’t going to point that out. "Just don’t tell dad about the ‘I can do what I want’ part. He’ll panic and go into a speech to remind you that mum is a professor and you have to follow rules blablabla." It was what dad reverted to sometimes when mum wasn’t around.

Jackson shook his head vigorously at the smelly tie offer with a simple. "No! Just no! I want to look good on the first day of school." For all the pretty girls. A smelly tie was not going to be in his wardrobe. Sighing and pulling a hand through his hair he gave up. Gemma usually got her way anyway in the end. "Fine, if it’s just for a funny family picture then we can buy the smelly hat and tie and something for mum and dad, but there is no way on earth I’m wearing any of it to school." He had to draw a line.

Would it surprise him that she would gladly accept his self invite? She was growing...rather wearing of a certain flatmate and his antics. A date with another person may be the kick in the pants required to get him to shape up a little. Not that she would entirely be using David Truebridge as a pawn to her games. She did enjoy his company, shockingly.

"Some. But not I," she replied quickly, the disdain slick on her tongue like liquid silver. She had no yearning to be compared to some other creature. Some magical being that was not exquisite without its magical influence. Nor did she particularly wish to be called exquisite (only she had a deep hankering for it). "I broke fingers and wrists at Ilvermorny whenever some pseudo suitor saw fit to attempt to woo me with the sentiment. A nose once. Maybe twice." She was a little less hostile these days. Not by much but she was less quick to throw a hex or a fist towards anyone. "It is not a recommended tactic." Her eyes met his, unblinking and solemn.

She once again found herself surprised by his words. Most chastised her for performing such magic for such a 'minor offense' and it was dangerously enabling to find someone of a like mind. "I am pleased that you see things my way," she smiled. Even if said smile came dangerously close to being more of a smirk.

Tucking a few stands of her pale hair behind her ear, she averted her gaze as she addressed him next. "Would you perhaps like to accompany me for lunch?" Her grey-violet gaze returned to his admittedly handsome features. A little more so than they had been about five minutes ago. "I hear the special at the Leaky Cauldron is quite tantalizing this week."

The inside of the junk shop looked even junkier than usual. It was as if someone had vehemently been searching for something. Maybe they found it? Maybe they didn’t. But they did leave behind a message that was sprayed over the windows to the shop.

Eden, tugging along her seven-year-old mini-me with a head full of Toros curls, was running errands. Starr had wanted to stay home, and with him attending Hogwarts very soon, she was glad she still had one baby who wanted to tag along with all her adventures.

Arden was her difficult child, though. And the mini!Eden was not in a great mood as the errands had taken HOURS longer than she had expected at this point now. It didn't stop Eden, though, and with her orange snake curled around her neck like a scarf, she wasn't spoken to too much by the general public. That erratic fear of reptiles most people carried was ever apparent today.

Eden Toros did not mind.

The graffiti caught her eye almost immediately. She and Starr did wander into the junk shop sometimes to find bits and bops that they enjoyed, so as she approached and saw the windows, she stopped and.....glanced down at her daughter. "What the...heck?" she murmured before peeking into the window. "Honey..." she glanced down. She REALLY wanted to go inside, but every motherly instinct inside of her told her NOT to bring her child in with her. Since when was she mother of the year, though. "Stay out here. Mammy needs to make sure there's nothing inside the shop, all right? You know when you get icky feelings in there?" she touched Arden's chest. "When something doesn't feel right?" She smiled when Arden nodded. "Exactly. I'll be back."

Arden would be fine.

The Announcer 12-13-2020 01:25 AM

Adren would be fine, but the motherly witch might not be. The door opening knocked something over. It seemed to trigger some sort of avalanche. Only it built from the back of the store and slowly rolled forward as if it was a wave making it's way to shore. Sure hope you have quick reflexes.

For Lissy! (& mr. adam our perpetual not-friend friend)

Kinsay James was on her way to Sugarplum's when she found herself stopping in front of this shop instead. And to be clear, she was not impressed as she stood in front of the store called "Cranville Quincey's Magical Junk Shop". Who named this place? It was bad advertising.

The cardboard box did catch her interest though. Free was one of Kinsay's favorite words (behind better ones like onomatopoeia, clandestine, and hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia). The SOON-TO-BE second year paused for a moment as if deciding whether the sour gummies could wait before deciding to sit down on the side of the street. Pulling the cardboard box to situate it on her lap, she began diligently rummaging through the inventory.

Most of this stuff really is junk. Figures.

Eden, her wand still raised, was surprisingly slower than usual mostly because she was nervous about what she would find inside the shop. She did NOT like the look of that symbol...she had seen it before, floating around casually here and there, for years, it seemed. Had it actually been that long?

The cascade of junk rolling down on her from the back of the store was too quick. Eden managed to get herself STUCK underneath all of the STUFFFFFF, her wand still clutched tightly in her hand. Would it be safe to blast her way out of it?! Or would that make things worse? She absolutely did NOT want Arden coming in here, so it was time to think QUICKLY. She wasn't hurt that she could tell, but she was STUCK UNDERNEATH PILES OF JUNK. And if she blasted her way out, she might GET hurt.

Uh.

"IS ANYONE ELSE IN HERE? ARE YOU OKAY?" she shouted.

Arden was bored three seconds after Eden disappeared inside the shop. Her bouncy, curly hair began to come out of its bun as she skipped, not at all worried about the situation since her mother was the SMARTEST GROWNUP SHE KNEW.

Oh LOOK! ANOTHER PERSON. "HIIII!~" Arden waved happily. The VERY HAPPY seven-year-old came to a halt in front of the girl. "Hi. Are you stealing stuff?" she asked curiously. "If so, you're not being secret enough." She gestured at the free stuff the girl was looking in.

It was then that Arden heard the ruuuuuuumbbbbbble from inside the shop, and she hopped up from her crouching position. "Nooo no no! My mammy's in there - !" But she said for Arden not to go in! And she knew not to follow when bad MAGIC things were involved.... her big, blue eyes looked at the new girl with concern....

Blasting her way out sounded like a wonderful idea! Besides making a big(ger) mess it would likely clear the way for you to exit the store. Or perhaps, to look deeper into the store. But the mess as it was and the mess as it might be sure would make it hard to find out if anything was missing.

Eden wriggled with aaaallll of her might, gripping her wand and making a snap decision. "VENTUS!" she cried, the blast of air enough to let her hop up. The former Ravenclaw was worried about any shopkeeper who might be in here. "HELLO!" she stepped over a broken chair, hopped over what looked like an antique lamp, doing her best not to cause more damager to anything.

"Is ANYONE in here?!" She was drawing ever closer to the counter where normally, customers would have to check out. "Homenum Revelio!" Just in case?????

Kizzy looked up to give the little girl a l o o k. She was far too old to be hanging out with babies, so she didn't return the happy wave. "No. The box says free." The accusation made her frown as she looked right back down to the box of useless things. She didn't really need any of this stuff anyway. She was hoping for treasure. "And I'm good at being secret." By! The! Way!

She would have walked away right that moment, but that's when she heard the rumbling and Kinsay's attention turned to the door. Another Deathly Hallows symbol? What was going on with this place and why was everyone being so hateful! Cooper had told her all about this Greater Good stuff. It was hate speech.

Kinsay looked back over to the little girl... And then looked back to the store. If her mum was reaaaaally in there, she'd be fine. But Kizzy was also very curious to know what was going on in there, so she set the box back down and got up onto her feet. "Let's go in." She didn't wait for an answer before pulling at the door.

To Kinsay but also ALL THE CHAOS

Adam was SO busy shopping. Obviously. SO busy.

Ok, he was just trying to LOOK busy. In actuality he hadn't done any shopping for school supplies, just stuff for himself. A new comic book. A new green jumper that reminded him of a green frog. You know, important stuff.

But then he spotted Kinsay heading into a shop, and an opportunity for MORE distraction presented himself! She was funny, he liked talking to her and mostly annoying her in conversation. He wasn't sure who that was that she was with, but he followed them into the store anyways.

As he entered the threshold of the store behind them, he heard someone calling out for help and raised an eyebrow. "Uh....hi?" he called out to the voice, also unwittingly announcing his presence to Kinsay and her companion at the same time.

well, nothing. Just a big old mess that was going to be hard to clean up. The poor shopkeep was going to a hard time doing inventory.

The young man's call, like the motherly witch's entrance, triggered another tumble of stuff, but at this point, beyond making more noise, it wasn't really notable.

sappy fest or something

The curse breaking experience always had something new to offer. Unless it's something huge and intricate that needed time to excavate and to break curses, Vivian didn't always seem to be staying in one city. Or country. Or continent. Or whatever. It's something she liked about what she did, that she constantly had to step out of her comfort zone. New language, new people, new surroundings, new culture. There was comfort in the unfamiliar, even if that seemed like a contradiction.

That didn't mean she didn't find comfort in familiarity, and no other feeling beats spending time with the people she loved—one of them being the man right beside her. Vivian reached out to entwine her fingers together with Andrei's as she looked around this side of the alley, nothing really looking for something or someone in particular. She scanned the place for more familiarities. After all, she'd been based in Madrid for many years. Things were bound to change, especially in major places like Diagon Alley.

A junk shop in Diagon Alley was something, and she wasn't sure she'd seen it before. Her age was showing. Yikes. "How many of those broken trinkets can you charm in one go?" Vivian asked, squeezing Andrei's hand a bit and nodding towards the junk shop. And was that a broken wand? Was that...allowed, even?

Andrei had lived in the United Kingdom during the summer months for a couple of years while he still attended Durmstrang. All had been thanks to his mătuşă and uncle in removing him from an unstable and unhealthy home environment. The Azkaban break out a few years back had turned Andrei's blood cold out of fear that the same may occur in Nurmengard, but for now that wizarding prison remained secure and his father still locked away within. Though the Azkaban incident left him unsettled still, even with his uncle's assurances that all was well here in the United Kingdom. It certainly did not...always seem this way.

Except for right now, Vivian's hand entwined with his own. A comfort and a calmness that made all the wrongs of the world go right. Especially when he looked at the ring, hand crafted and charmed himself, upon her finger.

"I do not think the shopkeeper would appreciate my wrecking havoc upon their shop," he chuckled. gruff and still with his thick Romanian accent, while giving her hand a squeeze as he held the door open for her. The answer to her question was, quite literally, all of them. "Perhaps I can find pieces of metal here to make you a locket."

When Andrei chuckled, so did Vivian. Any indication of happiness from him always brought a smile onto Vivian's face, subtle or not. But Vivian Fairfield was the least subtle when it came to expressing her own emotions. She didn't shy away from it before, and she certainly wasn't about to shy away now. Her life was pretty much better now than how it was years ago, ring-related things included.

"Well..." Vivian began, thinking about what Andrei said there and entering the shop. She then lowered her voice a bit, just in case people were eavesdropping. "I doubt the shopkeeper gets a lot of visitors everyday. Maybe he could use a little metal charming here and there, maximum customer attraction." She looked up at Andrei with wide eyes, and a little elbow bump too, because she did in fact like to play a bit of the devil's advocate. Kidding aside though, no, the shopkeeper probably wouldn't like it.

Him thinking about what to make for her always still made her heart flutter like she were a teen. Except she's now 25, but the feeling still remained. "You know you don't have to," she replied softly, still very much smiling. "But, thinking about it, it would be a nice way to give the metal new life." A lot of the things here were, after all, almost seemed damaged beyond repair. It doesn't mean it would have to exist forever without a purpose.

a billion & 5 years later*blends to the current tl o' things in the wizarding world*

That was good, especially considering that since he got his act together and made their relationship official (thanks in part to another very special blonde in his life) he had been smiling much more and the general aura of happiness something that remained close. It was refreshing to feel confident in his own skin for once and hopeful for the future, not afraid of the demons he harbored and able to control them when necessary.

"You are trying to enable me, Vivian," he chuckled with a dimpled smile as he took her hand to give her a spin right there in the shop. Pulls her close after, his hand resting on the small of her back while the other reached for his wand and did in fact enchant a few gears into motion. But only a few. Enough that he created a sort of deconstructed sort of music box in the air around them that played a gentle tune. "Will this suffice?" For that customer attraction.

Her next words had his lips curling while his wand returned to its holder, the only response he had being that he would always do, create, something to bring a smile to her face. Especially now in these times...though he was doing his best not to let the state of his workplace influence too much how he was at home. So, in this moment, he simply leaned in and stole a quick kiss before pulling away to give her another spin while the music gently played on. "Pick a few trinkets and I will see what I can create?"

For Luther but more are welcome

Truthfully, how had she ended up here? She wasn’t exactly sure but it wasn’t exactly an unwanted distraction for the everyday stress fest that was her life at the moment. It was draining and exhausting and oh so tiresome. Such was the life of a ministry worker in the current climate though.

Looking around, the curly haired blonde couldn’t help but sigh a little and drop the piece of junk she’d been pretending to eye, seeing but not really absorbing. Although in all fairness, she had only been looking at the free stuff in the box that lay outside of the shop. Deciding to finally go in, she ventured through the door and straight to the shelves of books that lay, somewhat dusty but still interesting. Maybe a good book would help her drift off at night when she was all alone with nothing but her thoughts and the barking of her neighbours’ dog.

Now, just to sift through the drab and the not so appealing damaged magazines and newspapers.

Luther was here on a mission, sort of. It was not required by his work but he often found himself here finding discarded valuable items that helped him with what he did. He was not allowed, of course, to divulge what he worked with/on but it was surprisingly useful the last couple of times when he came here. You could say he was a regular here.

He was standing by one of the shelves when a woman walked by him. She was obviously involved in her own thoughts, not lifting her eyes even to glance at him. Not saying he was at all eye-catching, but he was RIGHT THERE ya know? His ego stirred a little. To make things a little weirder, she stood by the read-able materials which, in his opinion, was the least interesting section of the shop. Luther took a step closer, a small smile on his mouth, "I recommend the miscellaneous section," he gently spoke, a cracked crystal ball turning in one of his hands.

Some people may not understand the draw of a good second-hand book but Delyth somehow found something oddly romantic about it. Maybe it was just the way that a tattered, old, worn thing could still bring so much joy to people. Lost in thought, she didn’t initially notice someone else enter the shop so needless to say, she dropped the book she was holding and jumped back in fright. “oh…”

Turning, her eyes wide for a moment, she looked at the man in shock. [B]“Sorry, I didn’t hear you there. Uh…the what? Miscellaneous?” she replied as she bent over to pick up the book. Frazzled, she cast a glance at the man again, her eyes roaming from his face down to his shoes and then back up at the cracked crystal ball in his hands. “But everything is broken, possibly beyond repair”, a polite smile on her face as her attention briefly turned from the stranger to some of the objects that lay broken, haphazardly around the room. “these books though…some of them are okay. You know, if you’re willing to miss a page or two”. Sure it was annoying but the books still had their value. The curly haired blonde just wasn’t sure if the rest of the stuff in the shop did.

Jackson had come to Diagon Alley firmly for the sake of business!
....... Or was it for pleasure?
No, business.
Unleeeeeeeeeeess it was for pleasure?
No, no. It was definitely for... something. He was here for something. Whatever the reason was, there was one. (A reason). There had firmly been a reason. That he knew for sure. It wasn't everyday that he managed to stop by Diagon Alley. Though, uh, actually? Now that he was here? He wasn't sure why he didn't venture over more often. There was so much to do and already he had several ideas for possible dates to take Jorgie on. Maybe they'd go shrunken head bowling so that they could both take their minds off of-
.......... Wait. Was that it? Had he come here to buy bowls? Did the Bole residence even NEED more bowls?
Jack mussed his hair as he gave all of this a big think. He like to walk while he thought, which was pretty convenient as he had already managed to venture inside several stores: the latest being this one. Sometimes doing this helped him remember the thought that he had previously forgotten. Unfortunately, however, he was so consumed by these forgotten and unforgotten thoughts, that he nearly ran right into the nearest display of sneakoscopes. Uh. Whooooooops. That would've been bad. Ha. Ha. Ha........ ha. No one saw that right?

He did a quick sweep of his surroundings just in case, before uh, rapping his knuckles against the table that they were sat on. Nothing weird happening here. He was just.... inspecting the sneakoscopes. That's........... all. Weird things, they wouldn't turn off.

Honora Svensson liked to come to this Junk Shop for the used books. Sure, it was frustrating to get to the twist in a plot and have to draw conclusions about what had happened on the missing page, but it kept her sharp. Plus, once she finished, the books went straight onto the shelf in the sitting room of the family Bed and Breakfast.

Usually there weren't many people in the junk shop, but today as she walked in there was someone over looking at the sneakoscopes. That was weird. Why would anybody want a sneakoscope that wouldn't turn off? She gave the fellow some side-eye while she made her way past, until she realized...wait, she recognized this person. He'd been in her year at Hogwarts! She watched him out of the corner of her eye as she continued toward the books, trying to remember what his name was. Joseph? Or Jake? He wasn't a Slytherin, for sure, but he seemed really familiar.

Honora had almost made it to the books without incident when she tripped over a bird cage that was definitely protruding into the walkway, somehow knocking over several additional precariously stacked cages with a clatter.

Merlin, that was embarrassing. She brushed some blond hair out of her face and started attempting to re-stack the cages, now studiously ignoring her fellow Hogwarts graduate in an attempt to maintain dignity.
