The Dance Floor

The Dance Floor

Encompassing most of the stage with all its grandness and extending out into every corner of the ball, holding no true form, is the dance floor. While the white marble flooring stretches towards every part of the ball, the majority of it centers around the stage and dinning area. A gold ministry symbol is embedded in the center of the dance floor, sparkling just a bit brighter than the floor itself. Or it could be the crystal chandelier giving it that effect. The large floating light fixture is centered high over the emblem, surrounded by white illuminated bleeding hearts dangling from ceiling and spread across the dance floor, all casting dancing silhouettes across the ballroom, even when no one's dancing. The lights from the illuminated flowers seem to be enjoying the ball as well, shadows joining each other in dance to whatever song that plays. All are welcome to join them, after all this ball is for you.

Because someone had to start ...

Lights gasped when she saw the dance floor. It was absolutely beautiful! She'd managed to lose Ethan in the crowds, but wasn't too worried. He'd find her eventually. She went out onto the dance floor and began twirling by herself, looking quite happy.

"You seem satisfied," whispered Ethan, his arms wrapping their way around his wife's waist from behind her. This was marvelous. Simply brilliant, in Ethan's mind. The gold in the floor contrasted nicely with his ratty red Converse, and seeing the reflection on his blue suit reminded him of nights spent staring at the ceiling in the Ravenclaw common room. "Let's dance, sweetheart," Ethan said romantically, directly behind Lights' ear.

Out of nowhere, a popping noise sounded from the middle of the dance floor, and a small creature with long ears appeared. The creature looked around in attempts to recognize the place before moving too far away from the spot where it apparated. He had been to the ministry before and he knew he was told to show up at the Atrium. He was supposed to show up only the following day, but Poppen was far too excited to wait another day. H wanted to clean something and he wanted to do it now.

Poppen raised his hands to shield his eyes from all the shining lights, and noticed some figures moving in a rather strange gait. He evaded them as they made their way towards him, and proceeded onward, finally realizing that this was the ministry. It wasn't the same ministry he had seen before, it was redecorated and pretty. Poppen was both furious, but mostly sad. How could they clean everything and make everything pretty without him?! He stomped his little foot on the floor and stormed to towards the seating, where he was bound to find something dirty so that he could clean it up!

Lights smiled as Ethan's arms came around her. Should have seen that coming, she thought. She leant back into him, concentrating just on him, forgetting the rest of the world. Let them find their own perfect significant others - she had hers right here. "Why not?" she replied, turning in his arms so she was facing him, and eased her arms around his neck. She smiled, her eyes sparkling with a light only Ethan could make appear.

Layla nodded and gave Bryce a grateful smile. Always so understanding, the perfect date of course. "yeah maybe we should." She took one more quick glance then moved away with Bryce. They could go have a dance or something, after all she didn't fancy running into her sister and that was one place her sister was unlikely to be.

She could be such a stiff shirt at times it was crazy."Did I thank you for accompanying me yet?" She asked as they walked to the dance floor. It's not like he couldn't have turned her down or anything but here he was at this stuffy ministry ball with her. She kissed his cheek.
"Thank you"

He'd let her lead wherever she wanted to go, though was happy to see they were heading not to the buffet, but the dance floor. Regardless that he didn't know anyone there, and if he did, it would've just been a slightly familiar face possibly from wand business, he was starting to have a good time.

Did she thank...

His face brightened even more after the kiss on his cheek. "Oh, I wouldn't miss the chance for the world." he grinned, placing one hand on her waist as they reached a good place on the dance floor. Definitely worth it.

Wow..why did she decide to head to the dance floor again? She hadn't danced in such a long time. She was sure her rhythm was off, hopefully Bryce knew how to and was on form..especially with this classical stuff playing. She breathed in as they stopped on the dance floor and his hand found her waist.

Right, his hand on her waist...her hand in his and the left one on his shoulder right? She offered her right hand as her left one found his shoulder. With these heels on she was basically completely level with him.

"Bare with me..it's been a while since I've done any formal dancing..."

Gently holding her right hand, he took a deep breath and took a small step closer. Right. Stance position. He'd seen other people do this before. Merlin, if he saw himself now, he'd be making the same jokes as he did then.

Yes, he'd never waltzed before.

The thought of saying 'me too' had crossed his mind, but really, he didn't want to dig himself a hole. He was bound to mess up. Layla did say she'd done this before. "I'm sure you're a natural." he commented. Guys were supposed to lead weren't they?

Merlin help him.

He was nervous. She could tell and she was guessing that he had never danced like this before. He never came off as the type to do any kind of formal anything. Once again..she was shocked the man owned a suit. He hadn't trampled her yet though so she supposed they both could make it through this tonight.

She chuckled lightly. Her a natural..no not really. It took a whole lot of classes for her to get anywhere close to decent." And I'm sure you're just patronizing me...you don't have to stop though.." She winked at him and waited for him to lead them.

He gave her a look. A look that clearly stated..

Patronizing? Him? Never. *wink wink*

A light chuckle escaped him before that sinking thought that she was waiting for him to start hit him. Right. If there was anything he was ever nervous about, it would be this. Fighting against wizards to get the best materials for wands was one thing, but trying to impress someone with dance skills was a WHOOOLE different story. Right foot first, right? Did it go forward? Or backwards?

Did he have to TWIRL!?!?

Despite his nerves, he started to take steps, guiding Layla as he did so. Hopefully the appropriate steps. Hopefully none of them landed on her feet either.

Layla giggled, like a school girl at his wink. Clearly she had the right date, especially if she wanted to enjoy herself at this ball thing. Right he should probably start them off now, but Layla noticed the slight pause, whih caused her to chuckle. Clearly the man was out of his elements.

As he took the first tentative steps she smiled and rested her head on his shoulder. He wasn't stepping on her toes yet..

"It's okay..you're doing pretty good." Better than she expected anyways.

He stood a little straighter as she rested her head on his shoulder. What was he all worried about? This was nice. More than nice. Resisting the urge to beam like no other, he was content just to have a small smile on his face.

"Thank Merlin. Don't have two left feet." Trouble was, he couldn't look at his feet now. Great. It didn't matter though. Especially when he was doing 'pretty good'. Just hopefully Layla wasn't expecting anything elaborate. He could possibly turn maybe...and maybe twirly her once or twice, but even in his mind he saw himself flat on his face.

How that could possibly happen, he didn't know.

They were dancing..they were actually dancing and no feet were being stepped on. She was extremely proud of herself, she was proud of them! And the fact that Bryce has straightened up so much showed that he was growing confident. Good, confidence was hot.

She giggled." Yeah it's a good thing you don't. I can't promise you anything about me though."

She lifted her head from his shoulder." Did I tell you about my promotion?" She asked as they waltzed.

Well this brought back memories… sort of. She recalled briefly their first encounter. At times it seemed like the most tragic of relationships, but currently it was perfection. She walked gracefully (and with a certain ‘look at me’ swagger) as she hung on Mason’s arm. With her free arm she checked once again to be sure her small bag was still dangling from her shoulder. She typically didn’t keep a purse, but tonight it held something very special. Something VERY special.

Well this place was certainly hopping. Everyone was here, nerves swept over her. Was she making the right decision? Was this the right place to do it? They were all dressed up, and they had been dating for a while. Medea knew that Mason wasn’t the type to put himself out there, so she’d have to.

Nervously she squeezed his hand in return and flashed an awkward smile. ”mmhm. Yes of course.” Calm down or he’ll think something is wrong.

She swept a loose hair back and nodded, ”Where to sit?”

Mason had to keep reminding himself to take deep breaths. He kept thinking about how he was going to do it, what he was going to say and... her reaction. Deeep breaths. Mason was too male oblivious to see the awkward smile on his girlfriend's face. But Medea seemed to be happy and relaxed. So, Mason was happy too.

As soon as they left the entrance hall, Mason heard her ask where they should sit. But he led her a little ways towards the dance floor. All part of his plan. "Actually... I was hoping we could dance?" He suggested, leading her out.

If all went as planned, they would dance, he would tell her how much he loved her and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and then... Hopefully she would say the same.... Gulp.

Medea was so wrapped up in her own plots and plans that she had no clue her soon to be fiancé boyfriend was nervous too and for the exact same reason as her. The woman’s eyes darted around looking for empty tables. She wasn’t sure what table he was aiming at, but hopefully it was close to the buffet. Medea loved food, almost as much as she loved Mason.

Abruptly they stopped. She looked left and right then back to him, ”Umm, I rather not dance.”She shook her head in disapproval; this was not going to work at all. ”I umm…” The woman kept a hold of hand and tried to find an empty table, ”There can we sit there?” They had to be sitting for this to work, they HAD to sit.

She gripped his hand and started in the direction of the empty table, ”I uhhh can’t dance in these shoes.” The woman pulled her dress up slightly and shown a beautiful strappy very unstable heel.

Suddenly, they stopped. Mason almost tripped over his own feet. Wait. Why weren't they headed towards the dance floor anymore? This was part of Mason's plan; they had to dance!

But Medea didn't want to dance. At all, it seemed. She was shaking her head. Mason was trying his hardest not to frown or act disappointed, but it was hard. "But, I... I was hoping-" He was cut off when Medea asked if they could sit there. There? Where?

And then he was being tugged along. Mason followed his soon to be fiancé girlfriend over to the table. Allllllright. Mason supposed he could do this sitting down. He looked down at Medea's shoe and wondered how in the world she could walk in those things. "Right, of course. No worries," He told her with a worried smile. Now he would have to activate plan B. Y'know, if he had one. Which mean he had to think hard. And quickly. And Mason wasn't really excellent at that.

"I'm not sure why they're all packed into the entrance hall," he grumbled to her. They had a speech or two planned, three to be exact, but they wouldn't be able to move on with things with everyone outside the ballroom.

Realizing they'd wandered onto the dance floor, Alexander paused and looked around with an eyebrow raised. "Well, Potions Mistress," he said, grinning a bit wickedly and turning to face her, "it seems we've reached the dance floor." He took a steo back just to give himself a little more room, and then he extended his hand to her. "May I?"

He was being oh, so polite tonight. He had to. The Minister of Magic should likely be on his very best behavior at this sort of thing. That didn't mean, though, that he couldn't admire his gorgeous date in the process.

Ethan himself had a slightly different idea, though, than the music planners had. He murmured quietly, "Novo Musica," and concentrated on one of his favorite Aerosmith songs. "Ah, there we are," he whispered succinctly to Lights as the music simply faded into Ethan's choice.

She turned to look at the entrance way. "You could have Recard have them move to the main halls as they come in. It would render him useful, and not just perform the duties of a charmed tray." She said with a shrug.

Hearing him ask her if he may, she turned to face him. She beamed at him and gave a deep curtsey before extending her hand for him to take. "You may have anything you desire, Captain. Anything I can give you, is yours." She said and waited for him to lead her around the dance floor.

Becky led Tim on to the dance floor, beaming. "Care to dance?" she asked, looking round at the grand scene. Her blue eyes sparkled underneath the crystal chanderlier above the dance floor and iluminating the ball. She looked in to Tim's dark eyes, kissing him on the cheek, gently.

She should have forced Jeremy to come with her, she so should have. At least then she wouldn't be standing here on her own right now. Not that she had expected any of that. She hadn't really thought a lot about what coming here would be like in general to be honest. When Evander had mentioned this celebration she had just assumed that this would be a good opportunity to get back on track with what was going on at the Ministry nowadays.

Somehow her feet had brought her over to the dance floor. Swaying slightly from left to right with the music, Alysson let her eyes dart around the room absently, not letting them rest on anybody in particular. She had missed so much, hadn't she? She wasn't entirely certain, but she was pretty sure she had just seen the Magical Transportation department head serving other people drinks.

What in the world had happened there anyway?!

Ethan shook his head lightly, smirking at Lights. "No, it's good. I've never listened to the lyrics before..." he said, perking slightly to hear the words of the song playing over them all. "Wow, that's kind of depressing," he evaluated, giving a small laugh. It really did start out with a sad story. He decided that they had enough time to talk at home, though, so he went silent and simply let the music move him with Lights.

"You know," he started a few minutes later, "I reapplied for the Ministry this year."

Lights stared at Ethan when he said he had reapplied. "Why? I thought you liked your job at Maintenance? What department did you apply for?" She suddenly held up a hand, smiling. "Wait, I know. MLE, right? You reapplied for MLE." She'd bet her month's pay on it.

Becky smiled, her eyes squinting at the bright lights in one part of the dance floor. Her dress swirled around her feet, the woman nearly tripping over it. "I should of worn a shorter dress," Becky mumbled, face red as she carried on dancing. Her eyes sparkled as she felt herself close to Tim. "I really love you, Tim," she said seriously. Oh yeah, she'd already said that a million times. Maybe that was exaggarating a tiny bit, but still. She kissed him again, holding his hand tighter as they danced together.

Deciding to wander around the party on his own for a bit, perhaps rub elbows with the higher ups to make sure that his application was given the little extra umpth it needed to get him more towards the top and not at some dull desk job. While Aron was rather eager to kick off the muddy boots, he wasn't interested in a job where he was more likely to grow moss than see any action.

Tugging on his necktie and suddenly wishing that he had taken a bit more time with his razor before heading out, he wandered to the dance floor when he saw someone...starring... He turned his head to follow her gaze, but it hadn't fallen on anyone that looked to be of any importance. That waiter fellow wasn't even that handsome, just your regular old dandelion when he was a on par with a canna. So, if logic served him right - which it always did - she could only be looking at him.

"See something you like?" he asked with a rather large look on his face. Of course, this Herbologist was off limits. At least, he thought he was. His Poppy hadn't confirmed either way.

It WAS the Magical Transportation guy, right? Recard. Yes, Armen Recard. Not that that solved the mystery of why he was serving drinks wearing a waiter costume. She was going to ask somebody about this weird occurance. But hang on...wasn't he in some kind of league with Borr? So maybe that was why...anyways, she was going to ask somebody. Only who...?

Alysson's mental musings were interrupted however by a rather handsome guy talking to her. Shifting her gaze slightly so she was no looking at him, she put on a grin for him, clearly amused by his words. "Why yes. Very...likable." She replied, taking a small step into his direction. Then so it was VERY clear that she was in fact not talking about him, she added, "Do you know this guy?" Gesturing at Armen somewhere in the distance, she winked at the man before giving him an innocent smile.

Still, she actually HAD been looking at somebody else.

apparently? And it shall be glorious!

Well, of course she was. What wasn't to like? She could look and not touch though. He was like one of those rare species of poisonous flowers, or perhaps a Frangipani. Fantastic to look at, but no good for you. Well, this was assuming that another certain Herbologist ever showed up.

"Fantastic," he said, still clearly thinking that she was talking about him. He then followed the direction her finger was pointing to with his blue eyes until they fell on the waiter. Did he know him? Um...no? "I know very few people here," he replied, turned his head to look back at her. "I only arrived her a week or so ago from Perth. The one in Western Australia and now Scotland." Hence why he did not have one of those hard to understand accents. "Name's Aron," he said, extending his hand for a handshake.

She giggled." Yeah it's a good thing you don't. I can't promise you anything about me though."

She lifted her head from his shoulder." Did I tell you about my promotion?" She asked as they waltzed.

He couldn't help but grin. She could step on his feet anytime...

Doubted that would make her any less of a brilliant dancer anyhow. Although, his eyebrows raised a little as he turned his head towards her. A promotion. "You did not." he said with surprise, attempting to turn a little so they weren't just stepping from side to side. "Congratulations Layla."

He didn't quite get that she was sort of kind of playing with him, did he? D'aww, she would have loved to see his face when he realized that she had in fact been talking about Armen and not him. Oh well. Next time maybe. And there was still time for a lightbulb-moment now, so maybe she wouldn't be disappointed after all.

Oh, he was new?! "Same." Alysson agreed with him, sighing softly as she glanced around the dance floor once more. "It feels like I've been gone for a decade or something. Everything's different." Well, it probably wasn't but it certainly felt like it right now. "Australia." She repeated with an approving smile as he introduced himself. "Well, very nice to meet you then, Aron. I'm Alysson." She took his extended hand and gave it a soft shake, a smile on her lips.

Letting her hazel eyes dart over to the dancing couples for a moment, Alysson watched them for a little while. She then returned her attention and gaze back to Aron and with a grin, took him softly by the arm. "D'you want to dance?" Because she certainly did.

Rufin led Julianne through the crowds and onto the dancefloor. That was, after all, the only reason she had accompanied him. His dear fiancee could never resist a dance around the rich and powerful... and Rufin had no idea why she was marrying him... he hoped it was because she loved him. Anywho... dancing. He bowed slightly to his beautiful blonde angel and held his hand out to her, she took it, and he led her into the dancing, placing a hand on her hip and clasping her hand with his other.

LaFresita 01-06-2012 01:19 AM

Harland perused the outside of the dance floor without much interest. Normally he would be looking for someone to dance with - and he was, of course - but not just any dateless girl would do. Oh, no what if she brought a date?? His skin paled for a moment, but he continued looking for Sophie regardless. She had to be here somewhere...

Hearing him ask her if he may, she turned to face him. She beamed at him and gave a deep curtsey before extending her hand for him to take. "You may have anything you desire, Captain. Anything I can give you, is yours." She said and waited for him to lead her around the dance floor.

Alexander cast a quick, halfhearted glance toward the entrance way. "I could care less about Armen Recard at the moment," she said, quickly changing his gaze back to her. He looked at her and made a show of admiring each piece of her ensemble, beginning with the lovely way she'd swept back her hair and ending with her shoes of choice.

"Just reminding myself that I'm the luckiest man in the world," he said. Being Minister of Magic wasn't too bad either. He stepped closer to her and took each of her hands, putting them into a dancing position...

Text Cut: Abigail Kaufman on the Center Stage

Abigail was shuffling through her cards until the very moment she walked up to the stage. Her first public appearance in Great Britain in at least, what, fifteen years or so? Such thoughts were only making the woman in pink more nervous. Best keep two eyes forward and not let her thoughts be muddled by such things.

Hearing her name and title announced, Abigail adjusted her pink suit and approached the podium, tapping on the microphone to see if it was on. A rather horrid sounding thump echoed in the air. Oh dear, not the best way to begin things now was it. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Witches and wizards," she began in a soft but pleasant voice as she allowed people to take their seats and she shuffled her note cards again to make sure that the proper one was in front. "First let me say what an absolute honor it to be here with you all this evening to celebrate this prestigious event. The entire wizarding world is alive with the sound of music and celebration thanks to the brave efforts of your Ministry to bring down the Cult of Walpurgis. The pain and suffering caused by these people is far deeper and will remained etched in our beings far longer than a dog bite or a bee sting, which is why I would like to ask you all to take a moment silence to remember those who are not so fortunate as to be with us this day and to remember all the sacrifices made for us to be here right now."

She took a moment and laced her fingers fingers together, resting them on the podium, before she bowed her head and closed her eyes. After a minute or two, she slowly lifted her head and gazed out at her audience and paused for a moment to allow them to lift their heads as well before continuing.

"Thank you," she said in a gentle voice just above a whisper. "I would now like to offer my congratulations to all who were the backbone of this victory, from the picket line outside the Ministry all the way to the those who fought in the final battle," she paused here to for applause and to offer an approving gaze to those she had spoken to earlier in the evening - even if they needed to lose the sunglasses and tidy up just a bit. Well begun was really only half done after all. "This day does not belong to one department or to one Ministry but to all. Let us together rebuild this world and always keep two eyes looking forwards towards a better tomorrow. While each of you has proven that you are capable of climbing every mountain and fording every stream, people who get their feet wet and hands dirty must have a strong leader to, as I like to say, administer a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine of change go down. There is no better person for this task than your newly appointed Minister of Magic, Mr. Alexander Greingoth."

Abigail took a step back from where she stood and turned to face Mr. Greingoth with an angelic smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Charming man, really. She then clapped her hands together, but not like the soft golf clapped she had done earlier in the evening. While her gesture was directed towards the new Minister, it was meant for all.

After applause had died down, she returned to the podium to resume her speech.

"I do believe that I have spoken long enough and I would hate for you all to nod off when you should be enjoying yourselves. I do hope that your evening is filled with..." And then Abigail paused as she turned over the next note card to see that her final one, the one with her closing remarks, was MISSING. Abigail wasn't one to get stage fright, nor was she afraid of public speaking, but when things were not in their proper place and didn't go according to plan, the nerves got the better of her and there was only one way to cope with it all - to break out into song. Which was EXACTLY what happened next. "...some of your favorite things...perhaps raindrops on roses and whiskers on kneazles, bright copper cauldrons and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things."

Oh dear, now she had just gone and made herself look like a proper gallivanting kangaroo. She quietly nodded her head, and waved to the audience very gently before clearing her throat. "Yes, well, thank you for being here today and do have a pleasant evening."

She nodded her head once more, cheeks flushed like a school girl, and returned to her seat.

Alexander led the dance along as the opening speech began. Turning toward the stage, he listened as Abigail Kaufman detailed the victory against the Cult of Walpurgis. A feeling of pride and admiration swelled inside Alexander, as he recalled the day of the final battle--the fight and then the walk outside to the picket line. When his name was mentioned, he released one of Hecate's hand and gave a gesture toward the MC. It was one of those waves that one gives when they are mentioned or acknowledged in some way.

Then he turned his attention right back to the wonder dancing right before him. "I love you," he whispered to her as they danced along.

The Lennox Choice music had stopped, fading back into the traditional ballroom music, which gained a sigh of approval from the rest of the guests. Ethan didn't feel guilty about having chosen his own music. It was better after all, and actually had lyrics...

But it wasn't the music that was important. "Oh, yeah, I did like my job in Maintenance... Three years ago when I was too young to get any other jobs. I mean, I'm twenty-three now, and I think I'm a bit overqualified for being a carpenter," he said calmly, not actually angry that he was still in maintenance. He had reapplied for much better reasons.

"Yes, I applied for MLE, and I even wrote the old Transfiguration professor of Hogwarts for a reference. He graciously offered the 'assistance of his quill', as he said. Do you remember Julius? He was the old one who wore the funny hats." The hats were funny, you know. Ethan gave a smile and kissed his wife lightly. "But yeah, MLE. And you know exactly why. Especially since you got that promotion, who's going to fill your shoes?"

Ethan gasped quietly, trying to hide it from the other partygoers. "The promotion!" he whispered urgently. "Which option did you choose? Sentinel, right?"

"Flattery will get you nowhere, Captain." She said, accepting the lady's position, and following his lead on the dance floor. She wished to place her head on his shoulder, but that would hardly be appropriate in this setting.

She stepped back and allowed him to take his moment, but as he turned back to her she resumed her dancing, and whispered. "I love you, Captain."

The students had spent the rest of that Transfiguration lesson trying to catch the bird. Instead of being angry, Julius had been impressed, because Lights was still only a fourth-year at the time. She'd always had a knack for Transfiguration.

Lights shook her head. "No. Hit Witch. I'd prefer that, and they may need a good tracker there." They probably would - her animagus ability would be useful. "You wanted me to be Sentinel." It was a statement, not a question. "Why? You know I'm capable." Her voice was still quiet and measured. She'd done the training, she knew the ropes. But she still needed Ethan to reassure her that she'd made the right choice.

Made conversation more animated and entertaining - almost as much fun as watching moss grow. Seriously, he did enjoy that sometimes. N'aw, that was a lie and he knew it. He was much more interested in entertained watching some of those Muggle crime scene TV shows or reading detective novels. But he was getting totally off topic.

"Charmed," he said with a wink as he shook her hand. She wouldn't happen to be a Herbologist, would she? Some of the most beautiful women he knew were, including the most beautiful Poppy.

Aron was never one to turn down the opportunity to dance. He was known to dance a mean Hornbeam Hustle. "I don't see why not," he said with a small nod. That is, until a certain blonde Herbologist showed up.

It wasn't like she wouldn't have got it without the hand gestures. "Yeah. I went...and came back." She replied vaguely, simply repeating his words, mimicking his hand gestures with a grin playing around her lips.

I don't see why not? Not EXACTLY the answer she'd been hoping for but he seemed willing enough. And nice enough. So while she normally would have voiced her thoughts, she for once didn't because she didn't want to ruin this. She needed something to do right now after all. Some distraction. Some kind of good distraction.

So instead Alysson just raised her eyebrows at him and said, "Good." And simply looked up at him expectantly. She wasn't going to lead him to the dance floor. That was his part.

Now he had plans for a better living for Helena and her...his...their babies.

As for Helena, he had never asked before but he hoped she was planning to drop this dump site of pretendedly offical people as well. This was no time to discuss that anyway, though, looking at her he nodded as her arm was secured into his. Leading his lady, the blond man eyed the place with his shining blue eyes then they stopped at the direction where looked like people were...dancing. Yes, a dance floor.

Smirking, Ryan motioned towards that direction.

''Would you...my lady?''

Helena looked to where Ryan was indicating, with an eyebrow raised. Dance? Did she really look like she was able to dance?

"Really, Ryan?" she asked, pointedly; quietly. The side of her mouth curled up into a smile. "Weeeeell... I suppose so. A dance or two can't hurt."

Starting to move towards the dance floor with Ryan, Helena tried to remember the last time she'd danced at an occasion that was so formal.

Her old boss. The waiter?

Somehow, that was far more amusing than it should have been.

"Seems like anyone would." he muttered with a small smile, glancing over her shoulder to see just where waiter dude was and not all that aware that they stopped moving. Out of his site range apparently. OH! Food. He was aware of that. "Sure! I mean, if you want."

The thought of potentially dying and leaving two kids and a husband behind didn't seem like the most comforting thought when you took a new job. "But nothing will happen. You're Lights Lennox, you can handle this. I can try to."

Lights relaxed, letting out a deep breath. "If anyone can handle it, you can," she said, gently flicking Ethan's nose. She felt better, and much more excited about her new job. 'Hit Witch' sounded like a good job. She wondered who else was going to be there - she'd already met Alysson, and Evander had mentioned Wesley Ferguson, who she'd seen around.
Ballroom music. Lights still didn't like it. "Novo Musica," she whispered, and the music became something more upbeat, less formal but still dancing music. "I believe a new dance is in order," she announced, smiling.

So he could spin her, but if he did one of those out-to-the-side-and-back maneuvers there was a very high chance the 'back' part would fail to occur. It seemed fair to give him the heads-up.

"I would catch you," Rhys said simply. She was tall, but he was taller, and if Morrigan insisted on falling, Rhys insisted on catching her. Simple as. He lead her out on the dance floor and took up her other hand in his.

"What would you do if I sang along with the band? And didn't know the words? And couldn't sing?"

She barely considered it before responding, "I'd admire your enthusiasm."

It was comforting to know that she wasn't in danger of wiping out on the dance floor, four-inch heels notwithstanding. It was also comforting that, in spite of those heels, Rhys was still taller than her. On more than one occasion, she'd been constrained to flats for the sake of her date's pride.

Morrigan looked around at the other couples, to see what they were doing, before asking, "What would you do if I started making steps up?"

Ethan knew that Lights could handle her job. Actually, it seemed to fit her much better than just Security. Ethan's only remaining problem with her taking the job meant that she may have to kill people. Technically, 'hit witch' implied killing for pay, and that made Ethan uncomfortable. He could never imagine killing somebody you don't know, for reasons nobody will tell you, for money. Especially after what happened with Trystan Bones, Ethan definitely didn't want to have to kill anybody again...

Thankfully, Lights could break Ethan's dismal focus by changing the music. "I believe so! You lead, milady," he said with a smile and a bow.

"These people are all in their own world here," Rhys offered. "We could do a whole song and dance number with our heads on fire, and they would continue to murmur sweet nothings to each other and not realize that people existed outside of their bubbles. It's... very tedious."

Although he said it lightly, so perhaps he was just protesting to have something to say.

"Oh? Well, we could do that too, you know." Morrigan leaned her head close to his ear and murmured, "Sweet nothings."

Then she pulled away and grinned, wrinkling her nose, "Was that tedious? Maybe I should stick to dancing with my head on fire."

"You're interesting enough without the sweet nothings." Rhys moved her away from the food tables and toward the middle of the dancers. More to see, such as the couples fighting each other to lead the dance and the couples that were so wrapped up in each other that they had been slowly circling the same patch of floor since arriving. Dead amusing.

"Let's leave the head on fire for a last resort."

"Good idea; I don't have the incantation for a cooling charm handy, at the moment." Plus, she had the feeling that if anyone drew a wand at this function, stupify spells would fly.

Morrigan wasn't the most subtle at people-watching, though she did make an effort for Rhys's sake. It was almost impossible to keep the excited intrigue off her face, however, when there was kissing and declarations of love going on!

Hopefully her date would give her a minute to gawk like a moron before prancing into the tango promised earlier in the evening.

Cassirin 01-08-2012 04:30 AM

"You're staring," Rhys told her quietly, spinning Morrigan just a step closer so she could join the conversation if she chose. That wasn't necessarily the suavest of moves, but it was an amusing one.

"You're remarkably light on your feet considering the amount of dessert you just put away. I'm impressed."

Ooooh, they were moving. There was a bit of clinging that happened before she corrected herself, at which point she protested, "Only a little."

After she said it, she realized it could be applied to both her staring and the amount of food in her stomach. Now that Rhys had her undivided attention, in case he did that again, she accepted the compliment with a polite, "Thank you. You don't seem to have a problem with dancing, either."

Cassirin 01-08-2012 05:18 AM

"No, I told you, Morr. I've got the MOVES." He did dip her, then, although he made sure to keep a very firm grip on his date in case she was as clumsy as she claimed.

"You know what would make this party even better?"

"Wooop!" Bending backwards wasn't easy in the best of circumstances, and the heels weren't helping, so she was very much glad that his grip was so firm. Still, there was no alarm or uncertainty as she grinned up at him, "What's that?"

Lights smiled and lead Ethan in a sort of waltz, sort of something else, basically moving to the music. She twirled, giggling, all traces of mature Lights gone. Lights the innocent was back to doing what she loved; being herself. Love it or live with it, but don't expect her to change. That was actually a pretty good motto.

After a few minutes, Lights felt herself getting hungry. Her nose caught the tantalising scent of the buffet. Now her stomach was in serious danger of grumbling, and that would be very undignified. "Want to break for food?" she asked.

What a dance! It was pure Lennox: spontaneous, energetic, and care-free. Another of the constant reminders of why he had married Lights. He let her lead the entire dance, occasionally dipping and spinning her, but otherwise moving after her steps.

Their song was done, the ballroom music back, and Ethan was definitely out of breath. "Food sounds good!" he said, holding out his arm to escort Lights from the dance floor.

Rhys pulled Morrigan back up and into his arms, and he was soon whirling them both back into the thick of a different group of people. Dancing was lovely in its way, actually. He always knew what he should be doing, and there was something so satisfying putting all the steps together correctly and working as a unit with someone.

His chin nestled against her ear as he spoke. "Better music."

She stepped back and allowed him to take his moment, but as he turned back to her she resumed her dancing, and whispered. "I love you, Captain."

Alexander laughed at her first comment. "Will it at least get me a kiss?" he asked, leading her around the dance floor. He'd only had eyes for her so far, but when another couple danced directly within an inch of them, he looked up and suddenly became aware of how crowded the dance floor had become. "You're the most beautiful woman out here," he told her. "...and that's not flattery. That's called being in love."

"Look at us, Hecate. All grown up and at the Ministry Ball--that all-star beater and her amazing Quidditch captain," he said with a wink. "Did you even see this in our future? Hecate, I'm the Minister of Magic." Of course he whispered all this into her ear. It was a 'heart on his sleeve' moment for him, and he didn't allow many people to witness that.

As they danced around the floor, though, the way his life had changed in the past few days was suddenly becoming a reality to him.

Elizabeth came onto the dance floor with Adam. She twirled and danced with him, trying to keep a smile on her face.

While Nicole danced with Robert she turned to Elizabeth with a humors smile and said, "Maybe we can switch parteners later?" Nicole laughed in her head, but thought that it might not be a bad idea, Elizabeth didn't seem to want to be around Adam so much, so why not keep him away a little. She smiled looking up at Robert.

Elizabeth laughed inside her head, "Oh i don't want your toes broken." She laughed out loud this time, "Last time Adam and I danced he broke 3 of my toes." At that Adam twirled her, ending the conversation for the time being.

Elizabeth shot an are-you-crazy-or-do-you-really-want-to-dance-with-this-arghful-guy look. She would be fine..... hopefully probably with some broken toes, unless he learnt how to dance after the last time they danced together.
"Relax Iza. I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to talk. It has been a few years since we saw each othe." Adam whispered into her ear, "Why have you been avoiding me?"
Elizabeth whispered harshly back, "Not here, at my work. Can you just behave for one night?" She sent a small glare at him but twirled out and into his arms again. Back in a normal voice, with a smile, "I'm impressed Adam. You have learnt how to dance since the last time."

Nicole shrugged her sholders a little and frownd a bit. No she didn't really want to dance with Adam, she just felt Elizabeth wanted to get a way for a little, maybe she was wrong. She wanted to get her mind off it all, so she turned up to look at Robert and ask in a little quiet voice for nobody to hear, "So did you call the church too see if they are avalable for the 16?"
Thinking back at his day Robert nodded and said once he remembered when he called, "Yes and the hotel around the corner for the reseption for 500? he closed his eyes a little to make sure he didn't mess up.
"520," Nicole said, they could just call and add 20 more seats in, no problem, it was a pretty big room! Nicole hopped nobody made comments on them having a muggle wedding! It was easy to have one sence Robert's family (besides his parents and sister) that she was a witch. If the people from the wizarding world they invited didn't like the idea, than they didn't have to go, its fine, just will should would cares and not. Nicole then thought of how her grandmother will explode when she hears! Sighing Nicole smiled up at Robert trying to hide how she felt about that.

Elizabeth mouth, "Sorry, I just didn't want you to have to put up with him." A twirl cut off the last word though.
Adam dipped Elizabeth low and looked like he was about to kiss her when he pulled her up and twirled her quickly.
Elizabeth clench her teeth. The sudden quickness wasn't that good when your stomach was already queasy but soon the feeling went away and she loosen her jaw. She swayed with Adam for a few minutes.

"I'm of the opinion that MLE people spend too much time in their own head," she said eying him pointedly.

Grabbing a strawberry she bit into it carefully as she thought. "I do believe the man is supposed to ask the woman out," she teased with a wink as she took a sip of her champagne. "But considering you are at the office about as much as I am...I can understand that." It'd been...awhile since she was on a proper date herself the workaholic she was. "Well, Mr. Escort, care to take me out on the dance floor? It's been awhile but I promise not to squish your toes too badly." She set down her glass and the stem of the strawberry on a clean plate and smiled up at him. "Us workholics have to stick together after all."

Dorian gave Laurie another smile, followed by a bit of a rueful look as she'd made her comment about MLEers. he wasn't exactly sorry for the observation, although he quickly riposted. "You would have to count yourself among that generalization," he pointed out, shrugging slightly. "It's true, though. But lately I've honestly just been focused on trying to locate D'Isigny," he admitted. Locating that man would not only fulfill the order he and his group had been given back when the takeover was mobilizing, but it would also ensure that the cult was less liekly of rebuilding. Recard wasn't going to do anything after all, and most of the other influential cultists were already in Azkaban.

That wasn't really an appropriate conversation for their current location, however, and he reacted to her returning the conversation to his own dating life with another raised eyebrow. "True, if things were traditional," he pointed out. "Not everyone just goes around looking for people to ask out on dates." He let the comment about the office stand, however. That was also true enough, especially as he'd thought the same not that long before. He gave her an almost blank look as she'd proposed dancing, though, as that was an abrupt change of topic yet again and it had startled him. He didn't see a reason to refuse, but that didn't mean he really wanted to dance. It would hopefully get the conversation off his love life, and that was the only reason he took her arm and headed for the dance floor. "I'm not too concerned about my toes."

Morrigan felt pleasant tingles go up and down her back, and she chuckled at herself for the stupid grin she knew was on her face, "Oh, I dunno, I'm quite fond of..."

She actually stopped to listen to what was playing, and then shook her head, "No, I have no idea who this is. But unless you plan on hijacking the stage, we're stuck with it."

Which was pretty A-okay with her, considering she was just following along to whatever moves Rhys made up.

"That's fair enough, I suppose. I don't think everyone here would appreciate all my tastes in music. I sometimes tend toward the more eclectic and whimsical. "Maybe I should talk less."

"Oh no, I talk all the time. My throat thanks you for giving it a break." Morrigan didn't want to sound uncultured, or at the least un-whimsical, but after a few seconds of consideration she asked, "What's throat singing? Is it what it sounds like?"

She was totally thinking of bullfrogs.

"It's... Mongolian, I think, and there's this way of producing sound deep in your throat so it vibrates your vocal cords and makes multiple notes at the same time. It sort of sounds like... I dunno." He croaked a bit and then grimaced.

Laurie couldn't help but laugh slightly at Dorian's remark to include herself. Well that was true enough. "Indeed I would. It's not that I choose to a lot of the time though it's that...well I can't handle stupid really well and that includes stupid questions," she said returning his shrug with a slight smirk. "Sometimes, though, it's helpful to just take a break from it all. I myself have one day a week when after I get home I do nothing related to work. It's the only way to stay sane really." Then again she didn't fight dangerous criminals usually and things of that nature.

As he led her out to the dance floor, her eyebrows shot up in surprise. He was willingly dancing with her? Must be desperate for a end to the personal conversation. She became rather self conscious of herself then and looked around before looking at him and whispered, "I didn't expect you to agree to dance." No she expected another round of trying to avoid things and such. Standing near him she felt suddenly very unsure of what to do which was entirely not like her and her teeth found her bottom lip which she started nibbling nervously. Catching what she was doing she gathered herself back to her usual self confident self. "Lead on, Mr. Tamerlane," she said casually placing her free hand on his shoulder as lightly as possible. Maybe dancing wasn't such a good idea, she liked her distance physically as well as emotionally.

Anyone wanna play? XD send me a VM if you claim us.

Having arrived at the party.... later than anticipated, and having come alone, Emily found herself walking. Just walking. Anywhere that her heeled legs would carry her. She wasn't used to dressing up for ... well anything, but she made an exception for this.

Everything looked beautiful, trully spectacular, and she wasn't just thinking of herself. No, the room was beautiful. It was so beautiful in fact that she was too focused on admiring the general splendor that she didn't have the slightest idea of where she was going, or who she was bumping into and 'rubbing shoulders with', so to speak.

Eventually she came to a halt. And only then did she realise that she was standing at the edge of what appeared to be a dance floor. Oh Merlin no... dancing?

She couldn't dance... and she had nobody to dance with. Ergo, this was a bad idea.

"Why am I even here?" she asked herself.

Roro

Aww. There was a dance floor. That was cute, but Isobel had thought it would be there. It was a ball after all, people would dance, and right now Iz was feeling that a dance was a good idea. The blonde mused, glancing up at Wesley. She had a feeling that he might not be so up to dancing. It wasn't really that manly was it? But maybe they could have a dance, and then go get some food. That would be nice. She watched the couples dancing with a smile on her face, everyone did really look pretty. Iz smiled, looking up at Wesley. "Want to have a dance..." She mused, nodding her head over to the dance floor. Hopefully he wouldn't be able to say no to her, because that would ber pretty mean. And an upset auror didn't make a good girlfriend really. One dance, thats all she wanted really.

"You are here, because you can't get enough of us." Sabel responded to Emily's most-likely-private-question as he drew up beside her. He had made sure to keep a firm but gentle hold on Heather's hand as he had woven them through the crowd and to the dance floor. There was no question about it, he was surprised to find Emily at the ball, let alone in a dress, let alone at the dance floor and he was sure his expression showed it....in a rather mischievous smirk sort of way.

His eyes flicked to the people twirling about across the spiffy space before his manners kicked him hard in the conscience. "Ah...before I forget. Emily, this is Heather. Heather, Emily." He paused and then waved his free, wrapped hand between them. "We all work for Law Enforcement." That was enough of an introduction, right?

She had surprisingly managed not to get too lost in the crowd then again with Sabel holding her hand it would've been hard. Heather smiled brightly at Emily, her eyes still shining from the recent conversation. "Hello." She laughed and could believe it. How many people worked for Law Enforcement? "Wow. Guess I'll get to see you around the office and what not." She watched the people dance across the floor and she felt a longing to dance but didn't want to just yet. "So what is your exact position with Law Enforcement Emily?"

Oiiiiii. A dance floor. Of COURSE Isobel was leading them to the dance floor first. "I don't even get a snack to give me energy first?" Wes pretended to pout, though he was secretly hoping to show off on the dance floor if he could.

Sighing a bit, the tuxedo'd man took his girlfriend's hand and held it out in proper dancing form. He placed his other hand on her lower back and started gliding them around the floor, surprisingly agile and smooth for such a... rough manly man.

"One dance, Miss Montague. I'm afraid my girlfriend would be jealous if she saw you with me right now." Wink.

Sabel's familiar voice brought a smile to her lips. "Of course, that MUST be it," she said in a surprisingly cheerful tone. Turning to face him, she couldn't help but notice that his hand was attached to someone... and that someone was a female... how very interesting.

Emily smiled politely at the stranger, "Heather, it's a pleasure to meet you." Any friend of Sabels, was simple that, a friend of Sabels, and not hers... But she could be nice, and she would be nice. It was a Ball!
A second passed, as Emily's mind raced through a number of scenarios in which telling this woman the title of her occupation would be a bad idea, but no, it was a Ministry event, Sabel trusted her, and therefore .. logically, she had nothing to be concerned about. No paranoia today Emily!
"I'm an auror trainee.. like Sabel," she said giving her good friend a light nudge. That look on his face didn't go unnoticed, and she just hoped he wouldn't use this 'outburst' of femininity against her in future. "And how about yourself? I don't believe I've seen you around before..." Of course she WOULD have, had the woman been here, Emily was nosy, and liked to know the who's who.

"No kissing. Not in public, Captain." She said dancing with him and she chuckled. "When I was a fourth or fifth year, I'd have told you this was exactly where we'd have been. No. Married."

And then he left for the stage.

Hecate stood in a corner watching her captain sit on the stage. She was proud of him, very proud of him. She gave him a little wave and waited for him to be done with the main event.

Good. Now that introductions were done he could....hug Emily with his free arm. Apparently. Her nudge gave him the excuse to do that. She couldn't set him on flames for it. Not here. At the ball. With her looking so spiffy and him so...uncomfortable. Plus, she wouldn't. Not for the brief, but sincere relief in his eyes that she was still okay. He hadn't seen much of her after the uprising at the ministry and it was just good to see her...still there.

Drawing his eyes away and the amusement returning to his expression, Sabel withdrew his arm from Emily's shoulders, giving his own a small shrug. "I still don't know what the Wizengamot is, but we've decided that we'll make up the definition of it's existence in less formal attire. You're free to join us for that event; date still to be announced." His grin slipped to Heather before chancing a glance at Emily again. "Or a dance in the fountain barefoot to...liven up this crowd."

He felt like he was back in Hogwarts again. It was fantastic. And he would probably pay for it later with plenty of reprimand.

Once again his eyes skimmed the dancers, intent on keeping his word to Heather and helping her find a proper date, when they landed on Hogwarts incarnate-reprimander. He blinked, dumbfounded and stunned into silence. Hecate was here?

...Would she agree to dance in a fountain barefoot with them?

It was nice to feel Sabels arm around her again. She'd missed it, she'd missed him in general, and it was good to know he was still in one piece... at least she didn't have to go and get revenge by setting some idiot on fire and dismembering him/her limb by limb. Not that she would do that. No... she was 'good', whatever that entailed. After everything went down, and hit the fan so to speak, she'd been busy and run off her feet.

Aha... the wizengamotty thingo.. Emily didn't care for it/them/the thing much, perhaps partly owing to the fact that all they seemed to do is take up space, and not really DO anything. What exactly did they do? Sit around and look pretty all day? Maybe. "I see..." she mused, feigning understanding.

Fountains on the other hand, sounded like a great deal of fun, and any excuse to kick off her heels was appreciated. "Sounds like a plan to me, I really despise high heels," she said, a mischievous smile lighting up her face. Emily linked her arm through Sabels, ignoring the fact that he was still holding this other womans hand.

"Sabel what are you staring..." oh... Lafay?
Emily too eyed the woman who just so happened to be her favourite ex-Professor.. well with the exception of the handsome and darling Vindictus.
"Professor Lafay."

Surprisingly enough, even though he still was uncomfortable with the idea that her questions were going to continue regarding his history, Dorian was actually starting to enjoy speaking with Laurie. At least he knew there was someone in their half of the MLE offices that seemed reasonably sane, and she obviously could take a joke as well. "Sometimes it's hard avoiding the stupid questions," he commented idly, raising an eyebrow again at the little smirk. "And you should feel lucky that you can have that day free of things. Not everyone can." He'd lived for so long having to watch his back that it was hard trying to actually relax now that things had calmed down. He was always waiting for the other shoe to drop, it seemed.

At least he'd managed to throw her off a little, though, by agreeing to dance. Her change in demeanor was rather amusing, but he held the smirk back as she made her whispered confession. "You shouldn't have asked if you didn't expect to be surprised," he said, the slightest amusement in his voice as she seemed to need another minute to gather herself. It would have been the easy decision to just keep evading the questions, but that didn't really en compass his entire nature. There was still the unpredictability there, after all. The other half of what had been part of his years at Hogwarts, that never really were forgotten. The smirk did come out as she tried to regain her confidence, though. She didn't fool him. "Certainly," he replied, glancing sideways at the light hold on his shoulder as he gently out a hand on her waist and shifted into a dnace as the song changed. This was definitely amusing. Awkward, but he'd let her keep her distance.

Laurie looked at Dorian as he commented on her ability to have a free day to herself and for once actually felt pity for him and at the same time was grateful that she never had got into that part of the business. What would it be like to never know what disasterous thing was going to happen next or from which direction? She didn't envy him at all. Glancing at his profile as he led her in a dance she took the time to study him for a moment. He obviously had demons he didn't want to talk about....but why did that want to get him to talk about it? And not in her usual interrogation sort of way.

Shoving THAT thought of her head she sighed and decided to just accept the moment for what it was. She took a step closer to him and relaxed for once. Listening to the music she smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder. "What were you like before the bits you don't want to talk about?" Where did that question come from? Oh well.

"No worries. I've already promise to explain it to Sabel when we're no it such uncomfortable clothing," She said smiling. "You're free to join us if you wish." She only said it to be polite because she was really beginning to feel Emily's indifferent kind of attitude towards her. Just some small things she picked up told her that. She looked at the woman that seemed to have taken the attention of both of their attention. She had seen the face before and she looked very familiar. Professor Lafay. Ah yes. She worked to Hogwarts. Well, she wasn't around when she had been there but, eh. Her eyes roamed the crowd and she emitted a small sigh. She was never going to find a date.

Despite the fact that he liked Hecate and got along rather well with her, sans the accidental insult he had thrown at her the last time they had met, Sabel found himself nearly wiggling his arm free of Emily just to clasp a hand over her mouth. He would have whispered something urgently about not directing the woman's attention to them too, had he actually acted on his sudden unease. Maybe it was simply for the fact he was sure that any Professor from Hogwarts could spot mischief a mile away before it happened, and he didn't want their fun ruined.

Instead, he worked on trying to get his bandaged hand into his pocket as quickly as possible. The last thing he wanted, besides their fun being spoiled, was Hecate to notice it. He'd burnt his hand in her presence before, he really didn't want her to see that it was gone and wrecked again. Though it had been partially beyond his control, he still felt fully at fault for the lapse in his defenses.

A small, tighter lipped smile was spared between his two evening companions. "Seems like none of us are a fan of the formal." They could be the Three Mundane Musketeers. Not that the title sounded highly appealing, nor was it exactly accurate. He frowned a little at his internal joke and shook his head. Heather seemed a little frowny-faced herself, so he gave her a gentle poke with a finger and a hopeful smile. He didn't want to go back to being frowny-faced. Not just yet.

Haha. Maybe that had been a bit mean of her, to come straight over to the dance floor. Opps. "You can have a snack later..." Because she was pretty sure that Wes would be able to manage one dance. Or she hoped so because they were at the dance floor now, and would look pretty silly if they had to leave the dance floor mid-dance. Luckily, Iz had a feeling that they'd both be fine.

One dance? Oh. Isobel pouted at him, enjoying their dance. "Only one?" She pretended to glance around, as if looking for Wesley's 'girlfriend.' "Oh....I can't see her." Hehe.

"Fine fineeee," Wes grumbled, sounding a bit like a little kid with Izzy as his mum. She was his girlfriend though, not his mum, and he knew he would dance with her all night if she made asked him to.

Wes chuckled a bit as she looked around. He pretended to make eye contact with someone over Isobel's shoulder and swept her around in a circle, bringing them closer and closer to a giant, full-length mirror on the wall, spinning her around slowly so that she caught a good glance of her beautiful self.

"Don't look now," Wes pulled her closer to whisper in her ear, "but I think she just saw you. She's the jealous sort, my fair lady....." But Merlin, how she was pretty.

Oh well.

Dorian had never tried to get pity from anyone. In fact, that was the main reason he never spoke of Gwendolyn, Gabriel, his past... the main reason he preferred not having any pictures displayed on his desk, nothing really personal beyond Lorelai's feather that had been dropped a while back. But even so, in the silence that accompanied the start of his dance with Laurie, he had the sneaking suspicion that she pitied him. Asking would only start up the questions again, though, so he remained quiet as the song continued. At least he could distract himself watching the other MLEers who had stepped onto the dance floor as well, who both seemed more comfortable (in the case of Wes and Isobel) and just as awkward (Emily and Sabel, with another girl he hadn't met).

At the sigh, though, he glanced back at Laurie only to stiffen the slightest bit as she closed the space between them and laid her head on his shoulder. That was unexpected, and so totally not like the prickly Wizengamot prosecutor that he didn't know how to deal with it. The question was another matter, and he smiled wryly for a moment as she'd still managed to bring things around to himself. She definitely knew her job, even if she was still bizarrely anachronistic at the moment. "Not extraordinarily different. More open, I guess you'd say," he replied. He'd definitely been more willing to talk about things back before the incident. There weren't many people her eat the Ministry who would remember him then, though. Wes and Katherine, a few others. Nobody had really commented.

Feeling Dorian stiffen she glanced at him in time to see his smile at her question. A smile formed on her own lips and she listened as he spoke. Well he didn't move away and he answered...sort of. "Now you know that's not an answer," she teased as they danced. "I'm pretty sure a lot of people in MLE were a lot more open before whatever happened to make them join...though not all." Some were still annoyingly eager to please.

She looked out at the other dancers with a small smile. "When you're a kid you make all these grand plans and fantasies as to how things will be when you grow up. So many things change to alter those. Some for the better but mostly not. I've always believed things happen for a reason but lately...I'm beginning to doubt that." For example what was the reason behind all the people she ran into that back stabbed her or led her on. No wonder she had trust issues.

"Seems like it," She agreed still surveying the area around them. She felt him poke her and she looked back and gave him a smile. "So are we all just going to stand around or we actually going to cause a little..." She let the word trouble fall off but the mischievous glint in her eyes should have been able to say it all. She was ready to let loose and kick her heels off, figuratively and literally.

"Perfect." Isobel grinned at him. Iz knew full well that if she asked him to continue dancing, that he would. Wes was just that cute, and Isobel liked it a lot. Hopefully Wes would know that she wasn't mean enough to make him dance with her all night. She wasn't that mean, hopefully anyway.

Waiit. Who was he looked at? Was he looking at anyone? Because she was pretty sure that she was Wes' only girlfriend. He would have a lot to answer for if not. Oooh. Oh. Isobel giggled, looking at their reflection. They were quite a pretty couple, if she said so herself. Not that Isobel was that vain, but it didn't stop her thinking she was pretty. And when Wes told her all the while, she did kind of start to believe it.

"Ooh...I see her now..." She giggled, grinning at him. This was kind of fun actually. "She did look a bit jealous..." She mused, her eyes twinkling a little. "I better watch out for her..."
