Charing Cross Road Rules & Guidelines

Welcome to Charing Cross Road! This is the forum where you can discuss all manner of non-HP-related films, television shows, music, and more. But before jumping in, please review the rules and guidelines below.

Guidelines

1) All SnitchSeeker Board Rules must be followed at all times. In particular, please take note of the following selection:
  • Be respectful. Everyone has their own thoughts about various movies, shows, characters, etc., and having discussions about them can be a lot of fun. Rude comments and personal attacks, however, are not, and they will not be tolerated. See: Common Courtesy and Harassment.
  • There will be no swearing whatsoever. This includes in song lyrics/titles, movie titles, and quotes [etc.]. This includes the use of asterisks (*), periods (.), dashes (-), etc. in the middle of the word or to replace the word itself. See: Inappropriate Language.
  • There are several topics (war, politics, religion, etc.) that are not appropriate for SS. If submitted, these threads will NOT be approved and you will receive a warning. See: Inappropriate Topics.
  • Do not spam. This includes posting only emoticons, one word responses, gifs, double posting, etc. These posts will be deleted, and repeated spamming may result in warnings. See: Spam.

If you happen to come across anyone breaking these rules, do NOT take the matter into your own hands. Please bring it to the attention of the Charing Cross Road Moderators.

2) If you don't see a certain topic you're looking for (view the thread index here for reference), you are encouraged to submit new threads of your own. Refer to the post below for more specific thread guidelines.

3) Threads for non-English movies and TV shows are allowed, but all posts in that thread must be in English.

4) Spoilers are allowed within a thread for that topic, with or without the [spoiler=*] tag, so be careful when entering a thread if you're not caught up on the latest release and don't want to be spoiled. We have a spoiler-free thread here to discuss movies, shows, music, or video games that you're excited for.
Thank you, and happy discussing!

How to Start a New Thread

Don't see your favorite band, TV show, movie, game, or sports team in the forum? Do you want to create a thread for them, but don't know how? Well, you're in the right place! This is a simple, easy guide to create a new thread for that special topic you want to talk about!

Before we start, keep these few, easy rules in mind:
1. Before you create a topic, make sure that the topic does not already exist. Please take the small amount of time to check through the list of threads to make sure the topic you want to start does not already exist. Duplicate threads will not be approved.

2. Use a title for your topic that clearly states the topic or question. Don't use titles like "Whaaaa...?" or "WKWTST", and please make sure you spell it correctly. Titles like "post here!", "read this!", or "tel uz wut ur fav band iz" are irrelevant. Chatspeak isn't proper grammar, so it doesn't belong in thread titles.
2a. In addition to a clear title, you are encouraged to use one of the following prefixes for your topic. Here are some guidelines for deciding which prefix pertains to your chosen topic:
  • Audio: music artists/albums/singles, podcasts, radio shows, etc.
  • Book: fiction stories, non-fiction stories - these can be discussed at The Book Seekers (Book Club)
  • Gaming: video games/franchises, mobile games, board games, tabletop RPGs
  • Sports: professional sports, team-specific profiles, international competitions, Esports, fantasy sports leagues
  • Visual: movies/franchises, TV shows, documentaries, streaming platforms (e.g., Netflix, Disney+), video content (e.g., YouTube, TikTok), etc.
3. If you want to include a picture in your thread, it must abide by SS board rules. All pictures must be 60KB or smaller. The suggested dimensions are 350x350 pixels to keep threads clean and neat looking. If your picture is larger than 60KB or if it makes the page scroll funny, we will edit it out.

4. No hot-linking.

Avoid direct linking by uploading to a free image hosting site like postimage, imageshack or nickpic.

Got these rules down? Great! Now we can make a thread! Here are some quick and easy steps to do so:
1. Go to the top of the Charing Cross Road forum and click New Thread.

2. Create a title and choose the appropriate Prefix from the drop-down list. For example:
Audio: Taylor Swift
Gaming: Animal Crossing
Sports: New York Yankees
Visual: Marvel
3. Type information into the Message box. You don't have to make it anything fancy, but try to at least have a few sentences. This can include background information, trivia, and pretty much anything you want that relates to the topic. Anything to get a discussion going!

4. You're all done! Check your spelling, check your grammar, make sure there's nothing else you want to add, and hit "Submit New Thread". Once a Mod approves it, your new, shiny thread will appear in the forum! Tada!
Want to start a poll? Follow steps 1-3 above and continue with the following steps:
4. Scroll down to the "Additional Options" box. Check the box next to "Yes, post a poll with this thread" and select how many poll options you want.

5. Hit "Submit New Thread" and you will be redirected to a "Post a Poll" page. Here you can add a title to the poll. For example: "What is your favorite Robert Downey Jr. movie?" Then fill out the different options that people can vote on.

6. That's it! Once all the information is in, click "Submit New Poll," and you're all done! Once a Mod approves it, it will show up in the forum.
