Default Craft Challenge #12: Potions
Technically technical all the time Bookaholic

My brain has been full of math the past few weeks so, I was going to go with an arithmancy challenge but, then I thought... ooo... potions! With Halloween just around the corner maybe this challenge will be just the thing to spice up your holiday.

And if you're having trouble coming up with ideas, I'm sure our resident potions professor would be happy to inspire you.

Here's your guide:

1. You have to begin it now, it can't be something you made before the challenge was issued.
2. It has to be related to the theme in some way, but not necessarily in the most obvious way.
3. You can use designs you found online or in books, or you can design something original.
4. You have two weeks from the date of the challenge issue to complete the craft.
5. Your craft can be any artisan craft medium; knit, crochet, wirework, beads, sculpture (bread dough, sculpey, fimo, porcelain clay, wood, stone, clay, metal art clay, glass, etc), food (cake deco, etc) or any other three dimensional object. Sorry, no graphics or pictures; we have other areas on SS that highlight that kind of art.
6. You must post a picture for us in this thread when you're done. Include info about it, what it's made of and such. If you want to share your pattern or include process pictures (how you make it), feel free!
7. This challenge is open and supportive of all levels of ability, from the very beginning beginner to the most advanced artist. All are welcome and praised!
8. Tell us what you're going to do with your final product; keep it, gift it or donate it.
9. First one to post their final project gets to pick the theme of the next challenge!!!

This challenge expires on October 12, 2008. (Though members are welcome to continue posting pics of any of their projects relating to the theme in this thread after the challenge ends as well as the previous themes (Snitches, Bookmarks, House Pride, Quidditch, Weasley, Death Eaters, Hex, Magical Creatures, Aguamenti, and Magical Familiars).

I was SO sure I was going to get beat because I had to wait for all my pieces and parts to arrive in the mail. So this is called Amortentia. The little bottle charm has seed beads and pearls in it, to symbolize the potion with a mother of pearl sheen. I used sterling silver wire to create the spirals, as Amortentia's smoke rises in spirals. The heart clasp is up in front 'cause it is SO pretty, and I added some amethyst hearts on a chain to fill out the front. It's a little unwieldy and I've been tweaking it, but I am in LOVE with the little bottle charms.

SPOILER!!: Amortentia

That's awesome, Ern.

And because Erin thought I should post these for a challenge but, I couldn't make up a legitimate reason for them to be included for Halloween, I figured they fit best here since Snape was potions master for about 15 years and Voldemort was regenerated by a potion.

I made these using this pattern (they also have the trio). I'm going to tweak it a bit next time because I think Voldemort has mutant bug eyes. Maybe changing to a smaller yarn or thread or a smaller hook (though worsted weight gets harder to work with when you get below a G hook). These was thrown together with scraps I had laying around.
