"We may be able to," Kris said, thoughtfully, looking at the Time Turner sand. "Expecially if we get this to work the opposite way in a Time Turner."

Diiiing. His lightbulb went off above his head, and he carefully lowered the sand back down before going to write on the board again. In code, of course. He swiped Lestrange's name off of the board, and then turned to look back at Miss Moretti.

"You have interesting ideas. What else do you have?"

"Um..." thought Melina as she watched Kris write on the board and then erase a name. "That's really my main thought at the moment. Though, I'll probably randomly think of something later on in time.", Melina admitted. "I tend to blurt out ideas randomly.", she explained.

"Well it was a good one."

Kris moved to his desk, and pulled out the chair. Instead of sitting down, he looked at the parchment on his desk, and then pulled out a different inkwell than what was sitting on the desk. Dipping the quilll into the inkwell, he began to write, still standing, but bent over.

If anyone looked at the paper, nothing was seen, however. When he was done scribbling, he placed the parchment into a folder on the left side of the desk, and stood up.

"I'll be right back." He pushed in his chair, then walked away through the shelves and into a dark area of the room, unseen and unheard. Shuffling noises could be heard as well. But he couldn't see or hear anything or anyone.

"Thanks!" Melina replied. Hm... ,she thought as she watched him jot something down and walk away into the shadows, wonder where he's gone to... a secret lair, perhaps? Or a boring filing room? What if he's writting up reports about us? Oh God! Melina's mind raced as she began to come up with crazy ideas as to her Head's leave of absense. No, no., she reassured herself, He's just gone to go get something or put that parchment away, nothing to be worried about!

Kris shuffled through the hidden files and through the broken objects left in the time room. It was documented somewhere that in the Back there was a special Time Turner.

He just now had to find it.

Head buried deep in the Back, shuffling could be heard up front. And it sounded like someone was walking in the room. No one other than the employees were in there though.

Or were they the only ones?

Hearing strange noises coming from the mysterious place that Kris had walked into, Melina called out, "Kris?..... Are you alright?"

Worrying was something Melina did not do often, but not knowing her surroundings, wasn't sure what the noises could be.

"I'm fine," Kris said, appearing behind Melina, holding a box. "Why do you ask?"

That breeze sent chills through him though. And he also heard shuffling, but it was only him and Melina in the room.

Strange. Very strange.

Melina turned sharply and eyed him, unsure that he was truly alright. To her, he looked slightly shaken up. "I heard some strange noises coming from the room that you were in, I guess I got a little worried. I don't know the surroundings well, it could've just been a typical noise here."

That was odd. thought Melina as a chill rose up her spine, There weren't any windows open, for what she could she. Then she heard the shuffling again, though neither Kris nor herself had moved.

"Um, is that a typical noise to be heard here, Kris?" she asked.

Kris raised an eyebrow when it seemed as if she doubted him. She mentioned the noises and shuffling. The shuffling he heard, but what other noises was she talking about?

"Well, things move," he said, carefully. "Sometimes their magic can go awry if they're old." Then he placed the box on his desk. "What noises did you hear?"

He would have to document it.

"Shuffling, footsteps. Also, I felt a breeze, though I don't think that the windows are opened, and by the looks of it, so did you.", she explained "Quite strange, but I can understand the moving part."

Then lowering her voice to a mere whisper, she added, "It's the footsteps that worry me."

"I did feel a breeze, yes," Kris confirmed, nodding his head. "But footsteps and shuffling? It must have only been me that you heard."

He would have to ask Sophia if anything was going on lately. After all, this was the Department of Mysteries, and anything could happen.

"Strange things occur in here. Anything can happen," he whispered.

"Mhm. You're probably right." Melina nodded, "It is the Department of Mysteries and all, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that, though strange it may have been.

"What happened?" Selene asked, approaching the pair from behind.

Not waiting for them to answer, she launched straight into introducing herself. "I'm Selene Ashbury. I was just employed here, and was looking for my division head, Kristofer Atkins. I was told he was in here..."

Had Kris not been calm and collected for this job, he would have jumped at the voice of another employee. He turned around to see another woman who happened to be looking for - well, him.

"That would be me," he said, turning around. "And you would be?"

"Hello, sir," she said, offering her hand to him for a handshake.

"I'm Selene Ashbury." Hadn't she just said that? "I'm quite new here, and wanted to speak to you about when you wanted me to start working, and if it would be possible to learn more about the time room."

"Ahh, right. Well, right now we're just going over things in the room right now," Kris said, walking towards the new employee and shaking her hand. Had she really just called him sir?

He didn't look THAT old... or did he? He was only twenty-five.

"You can start tomorrow, since you're new. There's not a lot of work to be done yet, just going over some things. Any questions or anything you want to learn about?"

"Would it be alright if I followed the two of you around? You know, so that I could familiarize myself with the room, and ask questions about anything in particular that catches my eye?"

Selene figured that it would be best to remain on Atkins' good side, so she resolved to be as polite as possible when asking questions and the like, even though it was kind of weird to address someone who didn't look that much older than her as 'sir'.

"That's perfectly fine with me," Kris said, looking towards Melina. "Let's go back here then for right now."

He started towards the back of the room, throughout the broken clocks, time turners, and spare files.

"Back here, we have the broken equipment. Some of this shouldn't be touched by anyone other than me. Dangerous things could happen if they're mishandled." He turned to look at the two women. "Not to mention, we're not sure about what could happen if they're mishandled. If you want to look at something, let me know."

A rush of cool air could be felt through the shelves, and a strange whispering occurred.

Selene felt the rush of air, and failed to suppress a minor shiver.

"Tell me the two of you heard that," she said, referring to the whisper. "What is that?" she asked, staring wide-eyed at Atkins. After all, he was the Division Head, he ought to know what was going on.

God, she felt pathetic. She shouldn't be scared by a stupid voice and some freaky wind that had come out of nowhere. After all, she had been a witch her entire life, she should be used to magic by now. Worst of all, she had appeared weak in front of her new colleagues. Great. Just freaking peachy.

Kris stopped pointing things out when Miss Ashbury had noticed the wind and noise as well. He had no explanation for it really. "Well, this is the Department of Mysteries. We have yet to figure a lot of things out. Probably nothing to worry about. And if it is, I'll let you know."

He turned back to walk along the shelves to the front of where the broken Time Turners had been left, and the sand that had been separated and the wood and glass. "Here was an unfinished project of separating pieces from broken time turners. This is where you will start tomorrow."

"Well, I'll take your word for it. Still, you can't blame a girl for being surprised by something like that. You can rest assured that it won't happen again in the future, though. I am fresh out of Hogwarts, so I ask your indulgence for my slip-up."

She looked at all of the broken time turners. This would be interesting, and time-consuming. Ha, time. She worked in the time room. Merlin, her sense of humor was awful...

Kris reached several shelves up to grab a box full of broken Time Turners. He moved over to where the sand was, and the magicked wood. Carefully placing the box down on a table next to the bigger one, he stepped back.

"No worries," he said, adjusting the glasses that were sliding from his face. "It happens, and I'm not going hold it against you since you're new here." Recent Hogwarts graduate? That reminded him of Karma. Gahh, she was graduating too. Siiiigh, he was getting old. "What house were you in?" he asked, carefully pulling out some broken Time Turners.

"I'm fine with it aswell. Melina Moretti-Papadakis.", she said as Kris looked at her. Oi! There it is again., she thought as the wind and whispher came again. "Are you sure there are no open windows or something? There's always something new here. I don't know how I'll get used to it.", Melina added and then laughed. "It's almost as if I'm a magical Nancy Drew, who was an unofficial detective of sorts, in muggle books."

"I was in Slytherin," she announced with pride. Despite that particular house's rather shady history during the past century, she was quite content with being counted amongst it's members. She was rather cunning and ambitious. After all, weren't Slytherin's prized qualities?

"Hello, Miss Moretti-...That's a rather long last name. Would Miss Moretti be an acceptable form of addressing you?" she asked.

The wind and whispering came again, but this time she didn't react the fear she had the first time. But, that didn't stop her from commenting, "I won't deny that it is more than a bit creepy."

"There are no windows on this level," Kris commented, looking through the box. "They were removed a while ago when it seemed that people were trying to spy in here."

Nancy Drew. Who was that? He was never one for Muggle literature, but he was sure that was over a hundred years ago.

"Awesome," Kris said, taking interest now. "I didn't go to Hogwarts, but I was in the house that was equivalent to Slytherin. My sister is - was, in Ravenclaw. She's about to graduate from Hogwarts soon."

He watched Selene become a little creeped out again, and he couldn't help but smirk slightly. "You get used to it after a while."
