Bah. Formal events usually meant dresses. She was still trying to get back into her clothes and nothing quite fit right yet. Welcome to the joys of having a baby. So Becca had just given up trying to find one that fit and had thrown on a suit. No one could say it wasn't smart. Also, she didn't really care that much what other people said.
She approached Gid, looking a little more than worn out and a little like she disapproved of being here. They didn't have the kids tonight, she could be SLEEPING! "You'd better have a drink for me already." she muttered to him as she moved to stand next to him and eye everyone else. They all looked so... well rested. Ugh.

One night a year. Yep. Only once. He'd had to talk himself into going by convincing himself this was for his job and that he had to be seen socialising and interacting with people or they'd think he couldn't do his job anymore. It wasn't that he didn't like interacting with people, just not these people. Mostly.
Charles had even made an effort to hopefully make up for his lack of enthusiasm he'd felt earlier. He walked into the entrance at the same time that his boss' demon wife had and he'd all of a sudden found himself very interested in a sparkly tree. He was not going to look at the woman, or his boss. He wasn't here to talk to them. Nope. Someone had to save him.
Maya arrived at the Orientation to have her breath taken away by the amazing hall. And this was just the entrance. She was beaming as she walked slowly through the doors, taking in all of the sparklyprettymagic amazing surroundings.
The young woman nodded politely at the employees she passed, not going anywhere in particular, just looking around in awe. Maya noticed a man carrying a little boy. He was adorable! The kid, not the man. Obviously. She loved kids soooo much!
The break was over before it started. Tasha arrived at the Orientation ball alone. Dorian had said he needed to fix something before he’d join her at the ball. Lifting up the hem of her long dress Tasha made her way into the Entrance hall. The department heads had been busy at work she noted with amazement. Everything looked sparkly, pretty and just well magical and perfect in celebration of a new year.
Gazing around slightly caught off guard she walked around she only with a very thin margin managed to not bump into another woman looking just as mesmerized as Tasha felt. "It looks pretty amazing, doesn't it?" she commented as she eyed the two staircases leading inside.

Letting her eyes drift over the other employees assembled in the Entrance Hall she immediately spotted her boss, Aron with a child by his side. She’d seek him out later during the ball for a chat. Not far from Aron her eyes landed on Simon, one of Dorian’s colleagues from MLE. Simon had been one of the people in charge of guarding her older sister Isobel when she’d been in quarantine. She lifted a hand to wave at him friendlily.
Speaking of Isobel; her sister was not going be in attendance tonight. It would feel weird and wrong for a long time Tasha imagined to not have her sister within walking distance if something happened.
Pushing the sad thought’s aside she glanced behind her outside hoping for a sight of Dorian. Instead her eyes landed on the Environment Department Head Roxanne, a woman whom she hoped to avoid if possible during the festivities. Especially now that she had a ring on her finger and Roxanne had in the past showed interest in the man who had recently put that ring on her finger.
Ducking behind a man in a tuxedo who had just walked in she hoped that Roxanne wouldn't spot her or the ring. Peering around the taller man she realized who she was hiding behind. "Charles?" she murmured in surprise.

Maya smiled when another woman approached her. Well, not approached her. Accidentally almost ran into her. But same difference. "Beautiful," she agreed, nodding her head. She ran a hand through her long hair and took another look at the decorations before turning to the woman.
"I'm Maya," the young woman smiled. "Maya Palmer." It wasn't too forward, was it? After all, the woman had only commented on the decorations. Maya was sure it was fine. She played with a strand of her hair, beaming.
Right. The annual ball orientation thingy. This year Bradley had dressed up a bit more, leaving his converse at home. He fixed his tie as he entered the ballroom, looking around for any familiar faces.
He didn't talk to many people at work, but there was bound to be at least one person he knew here. At least someone from his own department. Brad continued to scan the crowd.

When someone ducked behind him, Charles turned a little to block her a little more from whomever she was hiding him, but then when he heard his name, he looked at the woman who was hiding. "Hey beautiful." he said with a smile. He'd noticed she had a suit on and didn't dare say a word. If he did, she might snap and walk back out. Yeah that would look pretty nasty if that happened and he had to go running after her. Not good at all! Moving close to her he whispered "You look stunning as usual." And NO he wasn't lying, he thought she looked beautiful no matter what she wore! He didn't blame her for the suit either, he knew that she was very self-conscious still after having had Emma.
"I have your favourite sitting at a table just inside." he responded with a bright smile. Could he just add some coffee to it? And then set her in the corner so she could just go and sleep for a bit? She'd probably love that!

Looking at his expression when he greeted her, she narrowed her eyes a little, but decided that he was keeping his mouth shut for the sake of the evening. Yes, she had to be polite and talk to people. And not act like she wanted to be at home. When he whispered to her, she raised an eyebrow at him. "You can stop now. I think that's all I can take." she murmured to him, but when he mentioned he had her drink inside, she frowned. "So you just left my drink on the table. Alone." she looked up at him, obviously not impressed. "I appreciate the effort, but you know how I feel about unattended drinks."
Maya smiled when another woman approached her. Well, not approached her. Accidentally almost ran into her. But same difference. "Beautiful," she agreed, nodding her head. She ran a hand through her long hair and took another look at the decorations before turning to the woman.

Admiring the decorations in the hall Tasha wondered where Dorian had gotten off to. It was no use worrying not knowing if there was anything to worry about. Stopping herself knowing full well that Dorian was well equipped to handle most situations, she focused on the woman standing next to her.
Pulling a few loose strands of blond hair back behind her ears Tasha beamed. "Pleasure to meet you Maya, I'm Natasha Warrington." She introduced herself. "I work in Accidents and Catastrophes. Where do you work?"

"Thank you Charles. You don’t look too bad yourself." She smiled up at him. Resisting the urge to play nervously with her yellow dress she said. "I'm good. How are you? How was your vacation?" Gesturing around them she asked. "I thought you didn't like these types of festivities?" Tasha gazed around wondering if she had remembered to bring the memo about the ball.

"Nice to meet you," Maya replied cheerfully. "I'm just starting, but I'm going to work in Transportation. I'm really looking forward to it." Who wouldn't? Everyone seemed really nice and polite and it would be a fresh start for her, so that was great. "I assume you're returning?" She felt slightly awkward, not really having any other conversation starters. Things like this always started well for her, but then went downhill because she was stuck on what to say.
Adam tweaked his bow tie a little before offering his arm to Lorelai to take. This ball should be fun, right? Chance to meet the new people joining his department, make a good impression, and all that jazz?
When it came to making a good impression, though, he knew he wouldn't fail.
He look dashing, he'd admit. And his wife? "You look gorgeous, Lor." Even though she already knew that. And reminded him, every day.
He chuckled at the thought. Thank goodness his parents could babysit the children.

If she hadn't been a department head, Roxanne would've just avoided the Ministry tonight. She didn't need the fact that she was still single rubbed in her face. Nor did she wish to talk to people she didn't know tonight. But Minister Kettlebumburn would not be very happy if one of his department heads didn't show, and she knew she was already on his list. One more little screw up, and she was out of here, just like Wes, Schultz, Isobel and Ella. Sigh. Why did Greingoth have to leave again? Things were much under him.
Anyway, she quickly made her way through the entrance hall without stopping to talk to anyone, not even those she knew. They would be able to tell by the look on her face that she wasn't in the greatest of moods.
As Jasmine was waiting in the entrance hall, she noticed her boss was there. Jasmine made her way over and to start little small talk. "Hey Roxanne." she said with a little smile. She hoped she didn't startle her.

As Jasmine was talking to Roxanne, she noticed another familiar face from her department. She was glad she knew some people. Jasmine gave her a friendly wave and warm smile. She didn't want to distract her from her date. She seemed to be having fun.
Jasmine was still on the lookout for a young man who could be her date.
Looking at his expression when he greeted her, she narrowed her eyes a little, but decided that he was keeping his mouth shut for the sake of the evening. He opened his mouth to speak and then closed it not saying a word. So knew better. Yep, he'd just follow and go along with anything she said. It wasn't just the first night they'd had alone for awhile, but also the first night since Emma. So he knew she was on edge a bit already. He knew Dan and Willow would care for her just fine and everything would go well. Heck, it was better than having her stay with Brian! There was no way he'd have agreed to that...
...
Wincing he closed his eyes briefly. "I...just left it fo....I'll get you a new one, I promise. Just as you like it."

He didn't talk to many people at work, but there was bound to be at least one person he knew here. At least someone from his own department. Brad continued to scan the crowd.
Mariel wasn't completely sure why she was here for the annual Ministry orientation. It wasn't like she was new, she knew plenty of people, and it seemed to be a much more formal affair this year than in years past. And that type of thing usually warranted having a date, something which she wasn't too concerned with, yet she was a bit worried she'd feel out of place because of it.
Still, she got the idea that this was a mandatory thing for employees, even if that word hadn't been used. More of an unspoken thing. So the 27 year old dressed the part and headed towards the event, more to make an appearance than anything else. Maybe say hello to her coworkers and see if anyone else was added recently, especially since that was part of her job as liaison. At least she looked good.
As she stood in the entrance hall, moving slightly off to the side so she wasn't in anyone's direct path, the brunette glanced around at all the faces. So many she didn't recognize. Where there that many new employees? Or was she that secluded in Games and Sports that she didn't know many people outside her department? Either way, she needed to be seen by a select few and she didn't see either of them yet.
Instead she stood in her place off to the side, noticing a man next to her doing the same thing, looking at faces in the crowd or something like that. "You look about as thrilled to be here as I am," she mused aloud with a short chuckle. "Have you seen the refreshment table? They seem to change the layout every year." What they needed to do was keep the drinks right by the door. That way you could grab a glass of champagne as you walked in.

"Thank you." he bowed to her a little bit and then glanced around. "Well, it was interesting. I learnt a new language." he nodded to her. "How was yours?" Oh, yes. "I'm here merely to socialise so I am doing my duty and job." He gazed down at the floor and then back to Natasha.

Yes, quiet would be a lot better. Good boy. Sighing, she crossed her arms and then shook her head. "Sorry. I just... you know I'm still nervous." she turned around, gazing at the door. "And tired. Also, I hate this place." Yeah, ever since she left, she'd hated the place. It reminded her of worse times.

"I know love." he said softly. He knew way too well how much had happened here. Probably the only one that was here right then, that did know what had happened with her here in this ministry. And it didn't help Brian was here as well at that time. Just way too many bad memories. "We can just try and enjoy ourselves tonight and sleep in late tomorrow." Try and sleep in that is. If nothing else he'd let her sleep in and take care of anything that might come up.

Leaning her head against his shoulder, she pulled his arm around her and shrugged. "Good luck with that." she murmured. "Just a night's sleep would make me happy. One. Whole. Night." Merlin, that sounded like it would be blissful. "And breakfast in the morning without Emma demanding attention." she gazed off into the distance, daydreaming about how that might feel.

"Well after this we have a nice quiet night all to ourselves. We should probably do that for Dan and Willow with Aurora as well at some point." His arm moved around her and held her close leaning his head against hers lightly. "No Emma tonight unless we miss her way too much." Which was definitely a possibility but they really did need this break.

She knew Jack would join her eventually after his game, and this woman did not want to stand around like a loner.
She turned around to begin ascending the staircase when someone planted a kiss on her cheek from behind, and her face lit up like lights on a Christmas tree before she even turned around to come face to face with her husband. "That's not even a question, Mr. Fritzera," She stated as she draped her arms around his neck and kissed his nose. "I always miss you when you aren't around... and did practice go well? Are you hungry?" She was sure he was hungry after being on the field, and she would get him to the buffet table in no time.
Over Jack's shoulder, Reese noticed a familiar hair full of curls walk through the door -- or more like, dramatically entered the entrance hall as if it were a runway. She could not help but giggle at the dramatic entrance of her old time friend/brother figure Cale Newell; he always knew how to bring some attention to himself. She did not want to break this moment with her husband, and she knew she could catch up with Cale later on. Heck, Cale was her BOSS now! When did that happen?? It seemed like only yesterday that she and Cale had been at Hogwarts together, and she now would be doing coffee runs for him.
She did however wave at her old friend to show him that she noticed him in the hall and as she did so, she commented to Jack, "He's my boss now."
"Starving...I can't wait to see what they've got to eat at this fancy ordeal," Jack said with a chuckle, looking around at all the decorations and the SPARKLY-NESS of everything. "Thankfully the captain was feeling generous too, I don't have to go back till Sunday for practice," he added with a grin. Cause of the holiday and all that, right?
He turned when he noticed that Reese was looking at someone who had just entered. Oh, it was Cale! "Wait, your BOSS? Did he even work in the Ministry before this?" Jack asked. Not that he questioned Cale's credentials or anything, but he never seemed to remember what the man was up to.

Tilting his head a little he nodded with a smile "Fair enough, Aurora is pretty content to sleep most of the time, so it shouldn't be too bad." Emma still tended to be up most nights...just not fair! She was older...okay only by like 2 weeks BUT STILL! A bit of a smile appeared at her words though "How about dinner and one dance and then we run for the door and sleep?"

"Lucky. They're just so..." she trailed off, moving to bury her face into his neck. "Mmmmkay. Who are you going to be dancing with?" she asked, stifling a yawn. "And you know I'm gonna fall asleep on the way home, right?" she shifted slightly, quite uncomfortable in her high heels. She'd not worn them for ages, but a suit required shoes to go with it, sort of. Pffft, like she cared.

Ronnie entered the entrance hall, her arm linked with Jory's. Her eyes studied the whole place as they walked in, and she blinked. It was beautiful and very nice looking. Smiling, she turned to her boyfriend. "Isn't it gorgeous?" she asked with a small sigh, looking back at everything in the entrance hall once more. This whole orientation thing was a great idea, mainly because of the buffet. She couldn't wait to eat. Also, there was a ballroom where they'd be dancing! Ronnie really was excited for that, she hadn't danced with Jory in a while now that she thought about it.

"No kidding...." he murmured. How was that fair, shouldn't it be that they get the break when they were the ones with four kids and Dan and Willow with 1? Snorting softly he grinned a little "I was thinking with my beautiful wife?" he asked "And I kind of figured that, I don't mind driving, it shouldn't take long at all, though it is my car not yours we drove." Heh, if it had been hers, she wouldn't have let him drive it! Though he was sure she'd done that on purpose too.

"Mmm, tell me when you find her." she spoke against his neck. "I'll only dance if I can sleep while I'm doing it." Did anyone realise how much she needed sleep now? Ugh. "I know. I made sure it was your car that we brought. You're not driving my car again. Not since you messed it up last time." No way. She'd gone out and bought herself a beautiful car and he wasn't going to touch it. No way.

Jory was feeling much more calm now that Ronnie was with him. He shouldn't let his nerves get the better of him. And keeping his attention on Ronnie helped with that. "It is,'' he responded. Whoever was in charge of all the planning and decorations had done a great job.
He noticed Ronnie's eyes flicker towards the ballroom. Jory smiled to himself. He leaned closer to her and whispered, "Can I have a dance, my pretty lady?''
