| | 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' by Ken Kesey (Sa16+) [SPOILERS] Welcome to The Book Seekers' second Book of the Month discussion! If you don't know what Book of the Month is, there's more information here, but in a nutshell it is a monthly event during which we all read the same book and discuss it here.
As you can see, this month we're reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey! Age Rating | Sa16+ Genre | Classic Fiction Summary from Goodreads | Tyrannical Nurse Ratched rules her ward in an Oregon State mental hospital with a strict and unbending routine, unopposed by her patients, who remain cowed by mind-numbing medication and the threat of electric shock therapy. But her regime is disrupted by the arrival of McMurphy – the swaggering, fun-loving trickster with a devilish grin who resolves to oppose her rules on behalf of his fellow inmates. His struggle is seen through the eyes of Chief Bromden, a seemingly mute half-Indian patient who understands McMurphy's heroic attempt to do battle with the powers that keep them imprisoned. Ken Kesey's extraordinary first novel is an exuberant, ribald and devastatingly honest portrayal of the boundaries between sanity and madness. Let's go over some ground rules... - All Book Club Rules and SnitchSeeker Board Rules apply in this forum.
- You can discuss ANYTHING that is related to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in here. However, it must be kept SPOILER FREE until August 15th. Any spoiler-y things must be put under a spoiler tag. Remember that other people might not have read as far along as you.

It definitely kept my attention all the way through. Part of it made me kind of sad, to be honest. I didn’t really care much for the ending, though I did kind of see it coming through the whole book. An interesting read to say the very least - recommended!

....I only started last weekend and let me tell you it's not exactly a cheerful, easy summer read. I mean, I KNEW it wasn't going to be, based on the film and the play but...the book is even more intense. |

I should probably at least skim through the book again to refresh my memory. :3

Hello, hi! So, I think we've all had plenty of time to read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. If you haven't finished it yet, don't fret - you still have time before the discussion ends!
For those who have read it, what were you overall thoughts after finishing it? Did you enjoy it? Did you not enjoy it? And why?

I think the way it's written is so unique and clever - considering that the author was so well educated. To be able to invoke a characters voice so well is a skill that I really love from authors.
