| | | EmmaRiddle (by Si) My [Si] interview with Emma [EmmaRiddle].
I am in blue Emma is in red.
Hi um do you have time for an interview right now? =) sure! Hehe okay. Tell the readers a bit about yourself if you don't mind. ^^ briefly? yeah. Like what's your name and what do you do on SS? kk
I'm Emma and I manage/lead the news as well as the newbies [in conjunction with Rovie]. Ooh you do the "dirty" work dealing with newbies then. That must be fun lol Well...it can be tedious but most of them are nice. It's just annoying when you get heaps of spam...personally I don't get what kick they get out of it lmao haha if they wanna spam they should just come to the chat. we don't bite...much
Now what is the hardest thing to date that you have had to sort out as a mod/staff/admin? do you mean like an incident? yes ma'am i guess the 'toughest' time for me is when there's like premieres and book releases and stuff. I've never really had an experience with a member that sticks in the forefront of my mind. I can imagine gathering all the information when the books and movies come out. It must take a toll on your nerves at times. @_@ sometimes it's stressful but i like that 'buzz'. the whole adrenaline thing. kind of why i got into MEDIA STUDIES and everything. i'm just fascinated by all of it. Haha it must be quite a rush getting all of that stuff out. I get a rush on roller coasters hehe and obviously it's awesome getting to spend so much time and put so much effort into a FANDOM you love. and the members love you for it. =p yeah you could say that.
i should hope so! [joke] Now what was your initial reaction when you became a moderator? Well the very first thing I modded was the Slytherin CR. I guess I was kinda shocked. Never really saw it coming. Then after that things kind of escalated really quickly. And now you're an all powerful admin. Do you remember the day you became an admin?
P.S. Slytherin > All Sort of. I had a feeling it was going to happen before it did. And it was at the same time as Kris. Sounds a bit arrogant but it just felt like the next logical step. Especially since so many people were leaving for various reasons.
Slytherin rules. Period. It doesn't sound arrogant at all. It has some logic to it. Once you're a mod you'd expect the promotion to admin.
yay for Slytherin winning the Quidditch cup this term! Not just that. Moreso because I knew Karl was leaving and they'd need someone to fill his boots and at the time I was the only one who could really.
Oooo definite yay!!! Yeah I haven't seen Karl around in a while. Heh now back to the questions. How did you come across Snitchseeker? He was back as Ministry for a while but he's had a lot on what with finishing school and preparing to move out.
I'm not completely sure. I was once a member of the official site and got pretty bored with it. So I googled about. Then I found SS but it wasn't until later [after lurking for a few months] that I joined. Sounds a bit like me. I joined but lurked around for a bit.
Now is there anything you would change about the site? Not really. It'd be kind of cool to have a live RPG with graphics but I can appreciate and understand how much people LOVE writing posts in the school. Plus flashy things like that are easily dated whereas writing is forever. Writing is love. Definitely.
What would you say is your favorite part of the site? I really love the Gallery...I have a thing for visuals. I love the news [of course] and the fanfic section. The school was awesome to be a part of and is probably the one thing that makes us different to all the rest. Yeah I pretty much love the school and the fanfics. Do you write any fanfiction for SS? Yup I've written quite a lot in my time. I've currently got a thread for ficlets and an RS fic which is nearly done. I've also started a HP book 7/Doctor Who crossover so I'm pretty excited about that at the moment. Ooh that sounds interesting. I've heard a bit about Doctor Who thanks to Yvonne.
Now how did you get into Harry Potter? This is a long story but I'll try and keep it short. Initially I first read PS in 1997 when I was just 10. But I really got into the FANDOM when I was 12 and PoA was released. Since then I've been pretty avid....or obsessed as some might prefer to call it. Haha I didn't get really into the fandom until GoF was released so I get what you're saying.
Out of all the HP characters, which one is your absolute favorite? Ooo that's a toughie.
I have 5. 5? Ooh interesting. Luna, Tonks, Ron, Lupin and Snape. I so knew Snape was going to be in there.
Which of them do you relate to the most? I think all of them equally. When you look at it Luna and Snape are rather similar I suppose. School was kind of bittersweet for me like it was for them. Don't get me wrong I have great memories but I think everyone gets bullied or picked on at one stage or another. I used to be really quiet like Lupin....though College and then University rectified that! I'm also rather intelligent [not blowing my horn or anything...honest] but only when I want to be. In that respect I can be insanely lazy and I procrastinate like Ron. But I'm also witty and sarcastic. A little strange and rough around the edges like Tonks and Luna too I suppose. Sounds like a very interesting combination. I was picked on a bit in school too but High School has changed that a bit. (I am the world's worst procrastinator haha)
Now I shall be back in a minute. I have to take care of something for my mom. =) kk Umkay now do you have a least favorite character from the books? This answer will be unpopular but....Ginny. Ooh I'll have to agree with you. Why Ginny? Because she seems a bit flawless. And I personally don't see how doing one spell really well makes you uberly powerful. But that's just me. I see where you're coming from. =p
Now do you think the movies do enough justice to the books? Yes and no. I guess being a media student I can understand why certain cuts are done. I think it's crucial to remember they are and always will be separate entities. There are some things [like S.P.E.W] that just will not work on screen. I agreed with the loss of that and the Durlseys in GoF. That's probably the minority view but the way I see it they and the house-elves were disposable. I personally didn't care much for the S.P.E.W stuff in the books. haha Overall I do like the films, I enjoy anticipating them and watching them. Some aspects are perfect others not as much so but it can never be 100% right according to what every fan envisions it to be.
Neither did I. We saw in HBP that storyline went nowhere and to be honest it wouldn't have done Hermione any favours in terms of the AUDIENCE. The movie audience would have probably slept through that part if it was in the movie.
Which of the films is your absolute favorite so far? Hard to say. Each of them as something I truly adore. GoF at the moment, probably because it's the newest out but I also feel it's the most faithful without being suffocating. I'll have to agree. GoF is the best one so far. Now what is your opinion of Gary Oldman possibly not returning for OoTp? I'm unsure what to make of it. Sirius appears to be in the script and David Heyman insists they want Oldman back yet his management say they haven't been contacted. I think it's probably just a misunderstanding or crossed-wires somewhere along the line. That and the fact that he isn't needed til later on in the shoot so maybe they wish to do things as they go along. But in terms of 'officiality' I have no idea [other than what's been said] what's going on. I've heard almost everything under teh sun about it. I'd prefer if he came back but as long as Sirius is in the movie, I'll be fine. =)
Now which of the books is your favorite? I think he probably will. He certainly seems to want to and Heyman wants him so...*shrug*
Sirius never really touched me the way he did other people.
That's another tough cookie. I'm very partial to OotP. I adore detail and character interaction and the fifth book has a lot of that. I also love the DoM showdown at the end. HBP comes in as a close second though. The DoM showdown is something I'm looking forward to seeing on the big screen. There was so much to it.
What other books do you like besides HP? Plus 2 of my favourite characters are introduced in that book.
But everytime I re-read the novels my favourite changes.
I love Doctor Who so it won't surprise you that those novels are some of my favourites too.
I really love fantasy. Anything by Garth Nix is highly rated by me. Ahh I'm gonna have to look into Doctor Who. It seems to be a hit with a few SSers.
Fantasy books are awesome. Kris also got me in Laurell K Hamilton books which are 'mature' to say the least. hehe not for the under 18 crowd Doctor Who stopped in 1989 and from what I've found a lot of Whovians also happen to be Potterites.
Definitely not. I was born in 1989 haha Unless you're in the UK in which case 16 is fine lmao.
What are some of your favorite movies? Patch Adams, Finding Neverland, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Pink Panther [the old classics!], The Constant Gardener, Peter Pan [2003], Dogma, Sense and Sensibility [1998], WHITE CHRISTMAS [1954], Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz.
I love films... Ooh all very good movies. I loved Constant Gardener And of course the HP movies have a special place in my heart I can't believe they're remaking Pink Panther. The remake sucks. I've seen it the old films are timeless. i'd reccommend them.
much better than beyonce any day. Steve Martin can't play that part. I'll say that much.
Who is your favorite actor/actress? I have a ton [which probably doesn't come as much of a shock!]. Alan Rickman, David Tennant, David Thewlis, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Johnny Depp, Christian Coulson and our not-so-ickle Rupert. I think he's awesome. Kate Winslet, Julie Walters, Emma Thompson, Rachel Weisz.
Oooo can you add Evelyn and Saved! to my fave films list?
Haha it's not a shock.
I sure can.
Saved! is a good movie
and I love Kate Winslet
Now could you name your favorite band? At the moment it has to be Franz Ferdinand. Ooh good choice. I love them BUT I'm also into the Artic Monkeys, FallOut Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Killers and Snow Patrol. I also like KT Tunstall and Charlotte Church but they're solo artists. Solo artists can go in there too.
Yeah I noticed you liked Fall Out Boy considering your MSN name. =p
Do you have any particular hobbies? they've only just started releasing stuff here. haha I pretty much love them. I'm obsessed I love reading and writing which probably doesn't come as a surprise. I love University [which incidently isn't a hobby] but the societies that go with it are fun. I got to the HP Soc, unsurprisingly. I love socialising with mates, listening to music, watching movies, bowling. I love watching rugby [GO WALES!] and walking. Haha rugby seems interesting. We don't have rugby in the States though.
Umkay now do you have a favorite dessert? I love home-MADE rice pudding or apple/cherry pie/crumble. And apple strudel. Yummu.
Yummy*
And pancakes.
ugh I'm a pig. lol pancakes are good. I've never had rice pudding though. hehe
Now let's talk about your college life. Would you say you are a good student? We actually call it Uni. You go to college between 16-18 generally here. Compulsory ed ends at 16.
Depends on what you mean by good. I try and throw myself into University life as much as possible but I probably don't read or study as much as I should. Being a first year, the standards are lower and it doesn't count toward your end degree so it's sort of relaxing. The pace will pick up in October. It's funny to think my first years is almost done! But yeah attend most if not all my lectures andseminars primarily because they're interesting but also because I pay for it and well there's not really much point in skipping something you're picking the bill up for because then you're only kicking yourself in the teeth!
[For hobbies you could add I like going to the Doctor Who exibit in the Bay and watching Doctor Who filming whenever it's on location in Cardiff] I don't think many people study as much as they should their first year in college/uni. They wanna party haha.
(Umkay. that sounds like fun!) Too right. For us it's your first year of being legal to drink so...lmao lol we have to wait here. =p Now where have you always wanted to travel to in the world? Venice.
I'd also love to visit Egypt and Jerusalem too. Don't know if I'd have the guts to though. And New York just out of sheer curiosity. ooh I've always wanted to go to Venice.
New York is awesome.
Besides Doctor Who, what is your favorite thing on TV? I knew that was coming next! haha esp I'm a TV junkie.
Coronation Street, Eastenders, Casualty, Holby City, Loose Women, My Family, My wife and kids, CSI [Las Vegas and Miami], The Simpsons, Punk'd, Question Time, Countdown. A real mix I suppose! Ooh a very mixed taste. Niice. CSI is the best. Have you watched New York? Yeah and I really really dislike it. meh same. It doesn't have the same flavor as the original and Miami I think it's the actors. I think Horatio is hot lmao. Horatio is awesome. Easily my favorite character on Miami But the actors in NY are rubbish imo.
I think it'd be interesting to see a CSI: London. Ah I see
that would be very interesting. Who would you cast for it? Jerry Bruckenheimer is an awesome producer. Definitely. Probably the same people I named as my favourite actors....Robbie Coltrane would be a definite, Gary Oldman, David Thewlis and Alan Rickman lmao. Haha nice. I can see Gary Oldman as a CSI And for the girls...possibly Billie Piper.
Exactly he's got that look about him.
I doubt you'd get that many big names into it though. it would be a new setting that's for sure. For CSI anyway. yeah. it'd be interesting to see if the quality would dwindle like NY or stay the same as LV or FL. I'd watch it.
Thank you for your time Emma. I think the readers will enjoy knowing more about their news admin. =) cool.
sorry if i bombarded you with loads. It's fine. I'm actually glad I got as much as I did. You were a lot of fun to interview! That's finite.
