No offense, but I think the forums here are too heavily moderated.
In the FanFic section, I made a topic about a week ago and it still isn't up yet. It says you must wait till it it checked by a mod.
And in the RP forums, you make a topic and soon completely forget about it since it takes a week or two to get it up. It's frustrating.
Sorry, but I think the moderation of topics should lighten a bit.

While I appreciate your opinion, let me just emphasize two things...
1.) There are loads of sites out there that aren't moderated at all, or have very lax moderation. One of the benefits of a site this size and with this member base is that there are lots of things going on and lots of people to interact with. However, all these members of a variety of ages mean that we have to keep a close eye on what people post. Again, there are MANY sites that don't have the heavy moderation... and they are a lesser quality because of it.
2.) This forum is specifically designated for RPG questions and issues. As this is not an issue that pertains to the RPG in any way, I"m going to close it. You are welcome to discuss this with any of the admins if you still have concerns, including me .

I've decided to move this thread over to the Prefect's Office and reopen it since I think you've brought up a very good point, James Carter.
I wanted to start off by first answering your question about the RP forum. It has been our experience that RPs that have not been replied in for a month are dead. We move them to an inactive forum for an additional month but, less than 1% of the RPs that get moved there are ever reactivated. If we just left these threads around, the RP forums would be clogged with dead and meaningless threads.
As for the time it takes to get threads up, it usually doesn't take more than 48 hours and if it takes longer than that, I would PM the forum moderators for the forum in question or try resubmitting after rereading the rules (definitely PM a mod if your second try doesn't go through). You can also PM myself or Mad Eye Touz and we can check on the status for you since sometimes mods get busy in their real lives and might not have had a chance to look at the threads up for approval.
You might also note that not all threads gets approved and you may not be contacted if it is disapproved (this should be clearly stated in the forum rules). If your thread wasn't approved, you might want to check to be sure you've followed all the rules and resubmit.
The reason we have our threads moderated in most of the forums is because, unfortunately, most people don't think to read the rules or look around to make sure they aren't creating a duplicate thread. Moderating threads is sooo much easier on us than going through all the forums all the time trying to merge double, triple, and quadruple threads or editting/deleting threads which are in clear violation of the board rules, or is simply put in the wrong forum (such as this thread which ws originally placed in the forum for suggestions for the school section of the site).
As Erin said, we are a very big, forum-based, site so, we have a lot of moderators. We are also a site that is open to people of all ages and we do our best to make sure that the content of the site is appropriate. I apologize if the rules and moderation prevent you from enjoying the site but, just know that we do things the way we do so that everyone can enjoy this site.

I understand you guys. But I guess I'll have to do some pm'n.
I've made Two FanFics and they haven't been approved in like a week. (Even though I've only been here for two or so)
And you know how I pm'd you before on the siggy deal, I've done what you said and people still won't make a signature for me. (Mad Eye Touz.... ) Sorry but it just makes me a little steamed up.
And who does the site reviews? I haven't gotten my site reviewed either.

Excuse me? I don't make siggies for anyone.... I just put them in, thanks. I'm not real sure what you mean by that, but I'd love to find out. You should PM me if you have a problem with a siggy, but again, I do NOT make siggies for anyone.
'
EDIT: You made a request in the Submitting Signature thread, I see. But, if you'll go back over there you'll see that one of the siggy mods has editted your request. Your request breaks SS Siggy rules and you will need to fix it before we can put a siggy in for you. Click here to see.
EDIT II: Also, I looked at your profile. According to it, you have a site review here and a RP's here , here , AND here . Maybe you just aren't seeing your own threads.

Well, seeing as how this thread is a discussion on the suggestion for having the forums less moderated, I'll have to ask that we stick to that topic. If you have questions, head on over to the questions thread.
But, while we're here, let me answer some of the other questions:
1) I can state with certainty that your FanFics have not been approved. The FanFic moderators are on top of things and fics rarely sit in the moderation queue for longer than 12 hours. If both of your fics were disapproved, I suggest rereading the rules or PMing a fanfic moderator to clarify the rules for you.
2) If you are referring to the Aragog's Web site reviews, you'll have to be patient. The reviews are done by Rovie but, she's been very busy with a little thing called real life. Other members who happen across the request are also allowed to review your site. You can't just demand someone to review your site. Aragog's Web is a forum we created to help our members but, we are first and foremost a Harry Potter fan site and that takes precedence. If you have issues with Aragog's Web, PM AerynJade.

I like the moderation like it is, my RPGs have not always been approved, but I'm sure there are reasons, as a matter of fact, I've figured out a few of those reasons after knowing they were unapproved and since then, I've made better RPs that follow the rules more closely and they do get accepted. Honestly, part of the reason I like this forum so much is because of the strict rules. Without rules or heavy moderation it just wouldn't be SS! I'll admit it, I broke the rules a few times, and been caught. Without heavy moderation, this wouldn't have happened, but I'm grateful it did, because now I don't break the rules and the people around me can enjoy SS just as much as I do, and it's not only the older people, it's everyone. Just imagine if someone submitted an SA16+ in Grimmauld Place under the SA+5 (I think it is). The poor kid would be terrified!
So that's pretty much my 2 cents
Don't worry, you'll get used to it!

Kaylee Grace Magical Creatures | Farmer Carter | | Ama's Secret Okay I know james and he is a member at Blackforest, one of my friends from there many years ago before I left to become a full time SS'er. Its just that blackforest isn't really moderated at all and its very different than SS the way it runs.
But James what you have to understand is that SS NEEDS all this moderation, it is a MASSIVE site. At times I think we don't even moderate enough. Now, as for approving things. They will get approved soon enough. You don't need to wait JUST for your threads, SS is a big place explore the other threads thata re available.
As for signatures there are rules with that to make sure loading pages doesnt take too long since we have so many members. We have limits here unlike Blackforest. As you cans ee James things are oh so different here and better and safer! It just takes a while to get used to. I promise. |

Personally, i love all the moderation. I've been to a site where it's just been backstabbing, foul language, and complete and utter chaos the whole way through out the site. Actually, i'm not sure they could even call it a site, maybe a war ground would be a better description. I won't name the site but because it had no moderation at all it was completly rubbish. SS has become so successful becuase everybody is nice and freindly here! Also, all you Mods and Admins, you do a fantastic job, if it wasn't for you then SS could be down there with those awful sites.

I really like the fact that our forums are moderated. It keeps them clean but fun. If they were not moderated I think they would sink into filth. I think the mods do a great job and are very fair. Thank you mods for the awsome jobs you do.

Elijah Wright Department of Mysteries | Bassoons galore! I agree with the modding 100%, and not just because I am a mod. See, we wouldn't need modding if people didn't mess up ... little mistakes are okay ... but rules wouldn't be broken if people didn't do silly things to need them put in. We get members who post SPAM, or insanely inappropiate things, and we have mods to protect you from them.
It's not mods being mean if your FF doesn't get posted ... there's obviously something wrong with it. They wouldn't put up a forum for FF's just to stop people from posting there ... and take it from someone who has posted three FF's on SS. They get approved rather quickly if they abide by the rules.
I am very stubborn with my beliefs here. The mods are here to help, not hinder. I personally think you should be more appreciative of the people who work so hard to give you everything that you have on this site. It's better than nothing, because personally I wouldn't want my siblings to go on a FF, thinking it's a perfectly nice read, then them be filled with inappropite things ... or even bad grammar, at that. Heck, I wouldn't even want to see that ... ehh. Sorry. I'll stop now. You get the point, I think.
And if you have a problem with a mod, you should probably PM them about it, not openly discuss them by screenname in a thread.
I hope that you see where we're coming from.

I agree with you the.time.is.now., this site is so big that mods are needed. I think they are fair and do a great job. And like you said we wouldn't need them if people would follow the SS board rules. It seems to me that most people do follow the rules but then theres always the few who think they are above the rules.

Before becoming a mod (anywhere) I've been more than a little mad at the mods at times. Heck, I even thought they made some idiotic decisions. Well, one in particular, but that's another matter. Of course, that's because someone automatically assumed the worst of me. But even so, I do understand the need for moderation. Another side that I mod for is chaotic. It's a very open site with some loose abstract rules, and it's hectic knowing what to mod and what not to mod. The admin is no help either, most of the time. We've chased troublemakers and trolls all over the site trying to make sure that they don't disrupt things too much before we get them taken care of.
This site may be heavily moderated, but it's orderly, and it works. Not to mention, it keeps the site kid-friendly, and keeps them out of lawsuits. They also protect the properties and interests of the members of the site, which is most important.

I agree with the modding 100% its just the rules that are a little hazy as i have postedstuff and had to quickly modify it as it broke the rules even though i couldnt see anything bad in it, but we cant blame the mods for just doing their job.

Haha, what an old thread.
Well, now that I've been here so long. I totally take back what I said! I love SS and I somewhat understand the Moderation better now that I've dabbed in it a tad bit.

hehe Thanks so much for posting that. We are well aware how daunting and strict SS can seem at first, but like you said, once you've been around a while you come to realize there is a method to the madness. However, we always welcome ideas and suggestions for how to make the site better so thanks for starting the topic before, too. |
