quill Managing Editor's Office

Managing Editor's Office

Inherited from the previous occupant of this office was the much-too-weird-looking desk and kind-of-uncomfortable chair, but you shall not find those items in this office anymore.

The first thing that Miss Knoll did when she got the position was getting rid of a few things (pretty much everything) and you're now looking at an entirely different office.

There's sunlight (though not the real one) coming from a window that was placed behind Sienna Knoll's brand-new desk, because her hair looks better in sunlight, not too mention her skin. There are also a few astonishing pictures hung on the walls, these are meant to complement the colors and style of a couple book shelves. Yes, feng shui was used to accommodate everything in the office, so...no touching.

The door clearly reads: Sienna I. Knoll / Managing Editor. Even if what separates Miss Knoll's working area is merely glass, please abstain yourself of coming in when the door is closed.

If the door is open, then Sienna is in a good mood and willing to help you in any way, so...stop by, even if it is to take a few days off. Oh! And she likes water, not coffee, in case you were thinking of bringing one of those caffeinated drinks in here.

(OOC: this simply means that when the door is closed, I may be away and won't be answering too quickly )

The door is currently OPEN

Unless...well, she'd received something earlier today. But let's wait for the man to explain himself. Shiny office? "Why, yes, thank you...I practically did wonders with it, considering the state it was in" a nod came to her golden haired head, she already liked him just because he complimented the office. And she liked Tristan just because Tristan didn't like Quidditch either. Everything was oh-so-simple.

Sienna listened as he started to talk...and...what?! He doesn't know what he's supposed to do?! She was starting to wonder how James Parker had managed to get the job. Oooooh. Now she gets it.

He had no information about Enrico Serio. He just wanted to know what he was supposed to do with his job.

"Oh, okay. Well, first of all, it's nice to meet you James, I'm Sienna Knoll..." as he should have observed in the door he passed a couple moments ago, "...the Prophet's Managing Editor" she smiled, and was certainly glad that James didn't wander into Ian's office, "As I seem to recall..." lies, she was looking for that piece of paper that she was sure had the name of the hires...and once found she continued, "...you were hire as a News journalist" yes, the list was in her delicate hands, and was suddenly placed next to a bottled water on the table, "Have you ever worked in another newspaper before?" stupid Ian had the files, how was she supposed to know? "If you have, then you should know what to do by now....hunting down stories, of course...as far as 'where' is your place in this big office, we're still going through a couple renovations, but one of the desks you see out there is your own, just pick one that is empty and that's it" she said, pointing out the much-too-crowded desks outside her office.
James started to wonder if his Editor was a little loony. She looked frazzled and then puzzled and then incredulous. He was getting nauseaus just observing her facial expressions.
Curiously, she found his flattery appeasing and James learnt the first thing about his Editor. Flaaaaatter. He smiled jubilantly and nodded as she explained the new interior, noting her self-praise. Well.. it was nice - so the old place must've been hellish. Blah.
She made no reply to his question about what he was supposed to do..
Well.. greaaat.

Then, THEN after waiting for five minutes she decided to a) introduce herself and b) answer his question. Did she realise how confusing she was? He was utterly lost now.
Ack.
He blinked in a bewildered fashion and waited for her to finish. At her question on his expertise, James raised an eyebrow.
"Uh.. yeah, I've got heaps of experience.. but it's not like it says anywhere what to do exactly. Is there a specific theme or idea I'm supposed to write about?" Nice. Write a story. This wasn't primary school.
"So summary: Find a desk, write a random story and that's my job?"

Oh dear. This was going to be a looooong day.

So, he had the experience. Why, of course, Ian wouldn't have hired random people from the street. Ha. There's a thought.

Sienna nodded, the times when she'd been a News journalist flashing through her memory. She often spent her time outside of the Daily Prophet, and it wasn't just to get the stories straight, the outside world held better air than the Prophet's Headquarters. But times had changed, and now they had stories flying in.

He was right about one thing. There was no one or nothing that told you what you were supposed to be doing. Not that it was necessary.

"There's been a couple issues that are based on a specific theme...like when Hogwarts' Headmaster was a werewolf, and those Quidditch special issues" she waved, as if dismissing the Quidditch-related issues. She did not enjoy being involved in those.

"Right now, I suggest you find a desk, before we run out" not that it had happened before, but Ian had hired so much people that one never knew. "And...it's not just write a random story...well, since we're not releasing a themed-edition, then it could be about anything you stumbled across" she said, eyeing the journalist desks area, "We're not the Quibbler, so the stories are to be real, and the sources known" since he was a News journalist, those News needed to come from someone, right?

Hopefully, he'd understood what his job was.

James had the distinct impression she thought he was stupid. Well, he wasn't unintelligent he jsut found it difficult to understand, "Write about anything." So technically he could write a story about a horklump?

But then she told him it had to be factual with sources and evidence and yata yata yata. "Right, I'll get right on it." Nod.Nod He would prove to her he wasn't stupid but very, very smart! A valedictorian at that.

Her vocal disinterest at the themed Quidditch issue had James' mind in fifth gear. So she didn't like Quidditch, his boss. That was another thing to jot down.. for erm future reference?
Well not really, when would he ever need a detailed biography of his managing editor?
Err..

"Before they run out?" He asked her quizzically wondering how in the magical world it was even possible to run out of a desk.
Anybody heard of a conjuring spell, hmm?

A nod came to her head.

He should get to it. It wasn't that hard to find something that will make a good story, right? Well, it was...sometimes.

Really? A question? Had he no idea that Ian was probably going to spend the less he could on furniture? Oh, right, he probably didn't know. "I'm sure it won't happen, but we hired so much people this time, I don't know how many desks we have" well, not anymore, she used to know, back when she forced the new chairs to Enrico Serio, but the chairs never arrived, so she wasn't sure how things were in the desks area.

Wow. As Managing Editor she should know this kind of things.

Then again, Ian...as Editor In Chief...he wouldn't care to know about desks. He was happy if people did whatever it was they had to be doing. That included Sienna making her office a pretty space.

"Is there anything else I can help you with, James?" she asked, and he was more than free to ask another question, just as long as it didn't involve anything involving his work area.

James nodded again, awkwardly. All this nodding was making his head sore. So all he had to do was write an article... about anything? That was awesome. He would do it on the preliminary stock broking changes of the first quarter period of 2050-2058. Or not.

His boss kinda went into la-la land, leaving James very much alone and very much confused. If she was Managing Editor.. who was the Editor in chief? James very much hoped it was another attractive blonde woman. Wink.

"You're quite sure then?" He asked, amused at the idea of desks running out. Imagining their little wooden legs moving. How the simple amused the stupid.
"Right. Well thank-you Ms. Knoll." He liked to keep things formal.. for now.

As she asked him if he wanted to ask anything else, James shook his head. He wanted to find a desk.. and perhaps charm it for a moment into dancing.
"No, thankyou," He replied, with a smirk. Smiling appreciatively, he headed out.

Well, no, not quite sure. No one knew what could happen in the Prophet. Things could change in a second, especially around a place involving magic. But, yes, she was slightly sure that Ian wouldn't have hired people when there were no desks around for them to work.

Unless he thought it amusing, or didn't mind at all.

"Yes, a bit sure" she said, with one single nod, and..."You're welcome" though, he was more than free to stop by the Editor-In-Chief office. Ian loves company.

He had no other question. Perfect!

Sienna smiled as he headed out, and now dedicated herself to choosing which dog she was going to get. Because, yes, Miss Knoll is getting a dog.
