Creating the World of Harry Potter - Part 7: Story
Over the course of ten years, screenwriter Steve Kloves worked tirelessly with author J.K. Rowling to develop her magical books into films. From the beginning, Kloves had to decide what to keep, what to change and what to cut while staying true to Rowling's vision, initially without even knowing how the series ended! Learn the story behind the stories as they sit down together for an intimate, free-flowing conversation.
awww i agree Ron is the underdog in the books! But i love Rupert's portrayal like Jo and Steve said <3. He is amazing and i hope i can get this special edition!
I don't see the point in buying the collectors edition. It's so much money. I'm sticking with just buying the ultimate edition. I already own 1-4 and there amazing. I think the majority of the collectors edition is going to be the 8 part documentary in the ultimate's and maybe a few extra stuff. It's not worth it. I don't need 3 copies of the movie besides that. 2 is enough. haha
Oh kloves If you think so about Rupert Why on earth you didn't write better stuff for him? I can't believe it! this is ridiculous, i always thought he hated Rupert.

I was thinking the same thing. The biggest reason Rupert was so underrated in the series is in large part because of how Steve Kloves ( blame also does go to the directors and producers as well) wrote Ron. How many times were Ron's lines from the books and given to other characters? Scenes were cut out that really would've shown Rupert's wide range ( The "I love her like a sister" scene after the locket horcrux is destroyed is a prime example or Ron's sheer terror and hysteria when Hermione is being tortured by Bellatrix).
Rupert is phenomenal and was phenomenal in the Potter series but that's DESPITE Steve Kloves's writing and more because Rupert had such a great understanding of his character and because of JK Rowling's writing.

Simple: because he kept all the best stuff for Hermione (and definitely Emma, the filmmakers' fave, to an extent), who was his favourite character, and therefore all those around her got shafted. If he put half that love and effort into Ron, then we would've gotten one hell of a portrayal there.
To you previous three, I thought the same thing, Why couldn't they have written him better? They made no secret that Emma was their favorite. Even some of Harry's lines went to Hermione. I too wish they had kept the " I love her like a sister" part. Oh well I am sure these upcoming new projects will show lots of talent.
This is the biggest ploy ever. Steve Kloves has to defend himself because he knows (a guilty person always does) he did characters wrong in the HP series. I agree with everyone else who sees it. Kloves wrote and gave all the lines to Hermione. I guess for him, it was a shame that it really was Harry who had to fight at the end. Hermione can only do so much. It was not the Hermione Granger saga. Kloves bores me.

I'd have to disagree. Kloves has carried this story on his back for several years. Considering the length and intricate story line each book has he has done quite a great deal. Without the Screenplay writer there is no movie.
You have to remember though the books may be completely different to the movies they are both good in there own rights. He has continued to deliver a solid script (excluding ootp because he didn't write that one) and I have to applaud him for it. Sure lots of scenes may of gotten cut out but that doesn't mean they weren't in the script, that part comes down to editing.
Could he of done better? Probably, but if another writer wrote the script we'd probably be here today having the same argument.
I wouldn't say Hermione got all the lines, she got some great ones you'll always remember but other characters got deeper quotes.
Anyways I appreciate your opinion as we all think differently but yeah sorry I just felt the need to defend Kloves.
I wonder why these are not the extended versions....then it would be worth it.
I wonder that as well. It would be nice to see a 'Directors Cut' I know they left a lot of film on the cutting room floor, I say put it all back in and give us what the director filmed.
