Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has been translated into another language, Gujarati, and the translating challenges were dealt with by Jagruti Trivedi and Ahmedabad-based children's writer Harish Nayak. Article: Quote: J K Rowling's Harry Potter dons Gujarati avatar, as Gryffindor becomes Garuddwar and Slytherin is Nagshakti. Quote: It's hard to imagine the very 'Brit' Harry Potter, conversing fluently in apnu Gujarati. But he is, and so is the magical motley group of characters that J K Rowling created. For all those youngsters who found reading the magnum opus books in English a bit daunting, Harry Potter Ane Parasmani is a dream come true, where the Gryffindor becomes Garuddwar and Slytherin is Nagshakti . Quote: And for Potter's young fans? "Mummy won't have to read it out to me now. I can run through the book myself because I can connect to the magic world in my mother tongue -- the dungeons are bhonyaru, herbology is jadibootiyon ka gyan ," says an excited Yuvraj Patel, a standard four student. Well I am a Guju, a Patel also(go figure), ahem, but that doesn't mean I know how to speak or read it fluently...my bad....I think I'm going to stick to the English version. It comes out faster anyway....

Gujrati is the regional language of one of the western states of India. I'm glad HP is gaining populariy but i doubt anyone'll read it in that language...But it helps a great deal in making HP available for the kids who are in tyhe village and do not posses a great command over the english language!!!!!!!!
In the end...I'm happy

| Quote: I heard it's written in Latin too! That's wicked... Yeah, it is. I saw it at the bookstore the other day, actually. I thought it was pretty funny that they translated it into a dead language. When you have ghosts as fans, you know the books are popular. |
