Default Signed set of Potter books raises £2,000 for Antiville Primary School

A pride of Northern Ireland newsletter reports that signed set of all the Potter books released so far has raised £2000 for Antiville Primary School in Ireland which was in financial trouble and was facing the possibility of closure.

Quote:
Parents' Association secretary Samantha Robinson said she was "too choked to speak" when the package of books arrived from Ms Rowling, confirming the writer's support of the campaign to save Antiville Primary.
Quote:
At the end of the fundraiser on Thursday, Mrs Robinson described herself as "over the moon".

"I've never met Mr Esdale but I would love to give him a big hug," she said.

"His was the winning bid on £1,750 at the end of the night but he rang back at about five past nine and said he would round it up to £2,000. That's generosity you don't always get these days."
Quote:
Mr Esdale, a collector of books and artworks, bought the collection as an investment for his children, Laurie, seven, and Amy, 13.

"I heard about the school's plight and decided to make a bid," said the businessman, whose wife, Rosemary, is from the Magheramourne area of Larne. "I like Harry Potter but it's the children who are fans. They have read the books."
Quote:
While the Rowling contribution was undoubtedly the main attraction, other lots, including car and passenger ferry crossing tickets, paintings, and television show tickets, bumped the final total up to £2,477.
Quote:
The money will be used to fund trips for pupils and to buy books and other resources badly needed at the school.

How sweet! Go JK! Use that star power for good I love how she surprises small schools or schools in trouble with these donations! And she does it so quietly, too.

JK is my idol. She's a huge celeb, but she's down-to-earth and is very charitable!

That is really cool that she donates her books and cares about her fans sooo much. I love how she always finds a way to put her fame to good causes. I admire her for that and it makes me look to her as a mordern day hero. Teenagers today dont really have hero's like they used to because the media drags every possible hero through the mud. Like JFK. HE used to be loved by EVERYBODY and for the most part still is but they have tried to bring him down by "revealing" his infedalities. I know this is sort of off topic but that is how i feel.
