The LA Times recently spoke to Daniel Radcliffe on the set of Deathly Hallows. They have today released his comments about The Hobbit and why he isn't interested in the project. Quote:
"I'd have to say, 'Thanks but no thanks,' not that anyone has asked me," the 20-year-old actor told me last week in England. "Honestly, I don't think they would want me anyway, it's just too close. Whatever I do next, I don't think there will be any wizards in it!"
"James McAvoy is fantastic. I think he should play it. I've done the fantasy-film thing. Actually, so has he, with the 'Chronicles of Narnia,' of course. But I've done it for longer. He can take over. I'm done. I don't think anybody involved in that would want me to, either."

James McAvoy would be awesome in that role. But then again so would Dan, but I can definitely see where he's coming from. Despite his uncanny resemblance to Elijah Wood (Frodo)...Dan's probably ready to do something new. And the Hobbit will be filming for a long time since they're splitting it into two movies.

Dan as a hobbit. 
I think he's doing the right thing trying to distance himself from fantasy work. Besides, do you really want to be remembered for just genre work if you're trying to be taken seriously as an actor?
I think he should do something grittier and more noirish ... maybe a superhero ...
Daniel Radcliffe is ... Batman ... no? Whatever he does, I wish him luck. And David Tenant as Bilbo is funny ... LOL he's too tall. I don't know ... I keep thinking of Elijah Wood ... you need someone short and skinny no? That way they don't look funny when they're shrunk down in special fx ...

I can't really say how I feel about James appearing in The Hobbit because I'm not that familiar with his work. However, I can honestly say that if Dan wants to continue to work in films, the LAST thing he needs to appear in is something like The Hobbit. Unless he wants to continue in Harry Potter-like roles for the rest of his life.

I can totally see why Dan would not really want to do fantasy films anymore. Come on give him a break he has been doing them for how many years? Like ten. That is a long time to be doing fantasy. But I think James will do an amazing job. GO DAN!! and James!!!

I can see why he's sick of wizards. For half of his life some people know him as Harry Potter, The Wizard. It's got to get annoying hearing people ask you about your favorite spells and items if you were a wizard. Maybe he wants a new reputation...
