It's been all over the Boston Herald and Boston Globe because Mona Lisa Smiles was filmed the town over from me. It's crazy!

Sounds like they're trying to make GOF a little more "lightheartedly dark" after Cuaron. Newell does have that cynical sense of directing humor.

I really wish that Chris would come back because he had the world of Harry Potter down perfectly. Judging from the deleted scenes, he tried to film absolutely everything in the books, but had to cut some scenes due to film length, so I really respect him staying true to the book. I'm not that worried about Alfonso because if he wasn't qualified, he wouldn't have been hired. And while I realize he is the director and he's the man with the last word, the kids and adults who have worked on this franchise for four years aren't going to let him just come in and completely change everything. I have faith in Alfonso until he lets me down and I'll probably go see the movie whether it is Chris' style or not...and at least Chris is having SOME say in it...

I read at Mugglenet AND HPANA that Newell was going to release Goblet of Fire as one film a little longer than Chamber of Secrets. Excuse me? The Goblet of Fire has to be around five hours long, it's twice as long as Chamber of Secrets. I WANT more Harry and I don't care about the tired children in the theatre; I don't care if my butt goes numb, if my legs go stiff, I refuse to have anything MAJOR cut out especially the Yule Ball. I also read that they were going to RECAST THE TRIO! NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I HATE MOVIE COMPANY EXECS ::starts throwing fireballs at 4000 Warner Boulevard::. We want Dan, Rupert, and Emma for all seven movies, even if they are not the next big name actor or actress. The fans have grown accustomed to them, and they have a certain spirit that their replacement could never get right. It would be like ::shudders:: the James Bond flicks.
Due to Warner Bros. lack of regard for the fan's desires and more for the money, I am currently going offline to protest with a sign that reads: NO FAITHFULNESS, NO AUDIENCE, YOU DIE W.B!      I am going to declare disloyalty to the movies IF Goblet of Fire is "short" and they recast the trio with "new stupid six-year-olds". I seriously think they would hire kids half a decade younger than the kids they act...::Starts righting horror novel based on these events::

I agree with The Triforce Shards; Goblet of Fire has to be longer than three hours, there is too much, so there wuld be too many cuts. Please not the Yule Ball, that was the best part except for Voldemort's return.
RECASTING THE TRIO?!!? :o  > :o  > THAY CAN'T! I  Emma Watson and her replacement would be so UGLY! I'm to used to the original trio, they can't give Harry Potter fans living hell! I live in L.A., so I could easily protest outside W.B. headquarters. They also didn't stop PoA from coming out November because of the Matrrix, but of those fuc**** lame Looney Tunes that comes out NOVEMBER 14th!

Firstly - a moot point. How can we know if this is good news or bad when we haven't seen Alfonso's vision yet? We might watch Azkaban and decide Cuaron has done an Oscar worthy job!
Secondly - and I'm sorry to put a downer on the smiley faces....
BUT GOBLET IS ONLY GOING TO BE ONE FILM!
How could they be so stupid! They have just destroyed the last great franchise. Imagine 2005 - no LOTR, no more star wars, no Matrix to look forward to, the last great Bond film was licence to kill, and worst of all, a shredded and squashed version of a masterpiece in literature. JK's book cannot possibly be made as ONE two-and-a-half hour film - they would have more luck turning War and Peace as a 90 minute cartoon. And the it seems the world's favourite trio could be recast!
Just when Warner Bros. had stolen 20th Century Fox's crown, (The Alien series seeming doomed, Paramount surely won't dare make another Star Trek movie) they have thrown it all away. After leading us to believe being faithful to the books was their top priority (And let's face it - Order of the Phoenix IS unfilmable - one film or 3 are the options and the kids probably would be sick of it by 2007) they have ducked the biggest challenge - and potentialy the best movie. Goblet WOULD work a la the matrix in summer and november - but Harry has been let down tonight - Warner have failed HIM above everyone else. Ask most grown-up fans and surely they would agree Harry does not become a serious drama until Book 4 - (There are signs in Azkaban of course) - and now that will never be seen. Goblet the movie will have the tasks come so quickly it will seem like the Olympics - just one race then another, and the Yule ball will just be regarded as trivial.
I suppose it is easy to be arrogant and think we know it all - but if two Goblet movies was too many they could fix it by cutting book 5 down. It is not an easy task to adapt a Potter novel - everyone wants to see it their own way. I firmly believe that the first two movies might not be the greatest masterclasses in filmmaking since Citizen Kane, or even American Beauty. But they were faithful to the stories which is what we want to see. Alienate the die-hards and they won't watch movie 4 or 5. Then, even if Order of the Phoenix is brought to screen properly, even if by Columbus, it won't matter. Goblet will go down as the movie that wasn't what we asked for. Harry will go down on film as a Disney-esque children's fantasy - and his real depths of books four and five will never be explored by competent actors. How Warner's think they can just find another Dan The Man Radcliffe just like that is naiviety verging on the criminal. Have they forgotten how hard it was to find him in the first place? It took even him one film to get into it. As the years roll by it will look like the Planet of the Apes film series did. (Beneath & Escape etc served no purpose except lining someone's pocket as there was no story worth telling. If you don't believe me, go and watch T3). That is not a critism of JKR of course, just of how her story will be lost, like beer down the drain. Harry has been a massive success all over the world because he is a credible and believable hero - with a great supporting cast of characters that is refreshed and added to at every episode. Every year his world seems closer to ours. And that is book fives greatest strength - we can see conflict on the news between the powers that be, about the right way to survive in the way we live now - and that ironic dimension may never see the light of day.
And let's face it - isn't that what all this escapism is about?

GOBLET OF FIRE IN TWO AND A HALF HOURS?!!? THAT'S NEAR IMPOSSIBLE!
They either must have the Goblet of Fire a five-hour long film or release the first part in early November and the next in December. It would be an insult to the epic fantasy J.K. Rowling created if it was tomed down, even if all the audience's legs go stiff if it was long. But it has to be...
They cannot recast, it would be another insult unto the fans. The audience has grown used to Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, even if they are not Academy Award winners, and they have to stay. I thought Warner Bros. number one priority with the Harry Potter franchise was to be true to the books and the fans, but, alas, like all great franchises, the evil movie company execs wandered off their goal and became obsessed with the money. Money is not the key to the best franchise, it's faithfulness to the fans. It's not the faithfulness of the fans, like so many presume, as that is lost because of the movie companies themselves.
I will still go to GoF and reserve my judgment until the end. If there is an official from Warner Bros. studying fan's reactions on this site, I hope you slap Newell silly for his immature adaptation actions. GO FIVE HOURS FOR THE FOURTH! GO FIVE HOURS FOR THE FOURTH! GO FIVE HOURS FOR THE FOURTH!
