| | | Hagrid to help kids talk about cancer
Harry Potter actor Robbie Coltrane is asking young people to be cancer aware during Macmillan's Cancer Talk Week in January. Quote:
Children's celebrities are asking young people to be cancer aware during Macmillan's 'Cancertalk Week', 24 to 28 January 2005, and to help raise money for people living with cancer by taking part in The Big Hush, a sponsored silence, at the end of the week.
Quote:
Children's favourites such as Robbie Coltrane, who plays Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, and Neil Buchanan, star of CITV's 'Art Attack', are lining up alongside top children's authors Jacqueline Wilson and Anne Fine to encourage school children and young people to participate in various 'Cancertalk Week' activities such as holding an assembly, designing a poster or writing a short play to help increase their understanding of cancer and help reduce the myths surrounding this disease.
The celebs are also encouraging the kids to take part in The Big Hush, a sponsored silence which aims to raise money to help people living with cancer. Children can join in this fun event at the end of Cancertalk Week, with a better understanding of why the money they raise is so important to people living with cancer.
As part of the Cancer Talk programme, Macmillan has provided free resource packs for schools to help teachers plan their Cancertalk Week. The packs include; informative videos, primary and secondary school teaching booklets, lesson plans, teachers' notes and practical advice. Cancertalk Week can form part of the school's curriculum for PSHE/PSE/PSD and Citizenship/RME.
To order a free Macmillan Cancertalk, teaching pack, please call 0845 601 1716, email: cancertalk@mktpoint.com or visit: http://www.macmillan.org.uk/schools
Details of The Big Hush event will be included.

My mum had bowel cancer around two years ago & is still alive and fighting to this day. Like HIV and AIDs, cancer is one of those things that does need to be talked about more. 1 in 3 people get it at some point in their lives, so it's a topic that needs much discussion, education and support through funding.

I am In my late teens and waiting for Radiation treatment for thyroid cancer and I have also had to have 2 painful operations to have each half of my thyroid gland removed.
I am going to have to take thyroxin (the hormone which the Gland produces) for the rest of my life (because I have no Natural thyroxin left in my body)
So I am glad to see that harry potter actors are encourageing kids to talk about cancer and helping to set the record straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
