| | |  'Free' J.K. Rowling Harvard tickets being sold
The Daily Record is reporting that some Harvard students are flogging their free tickets to hear J.K. Rowling speak at today's commencement ceremony. Tickets are going for £100 ($195.76) to listen to Jo speak at the event for 20 minutes. J.K. will address 20,000 students this afternoon. Last year tickets to hear Bill Gates went for £75 ($146.82). Quote:
Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Rowling said: "She is very honoured by the invitation.
"She is travelling to America solely for the ceremony."
The speech will be streamed live here between 2:15PM - 4:00PM EST (7:15pm - 9:pm BST). | |

If you are a regular student who would attend the ceremony anyways, you are always given a certain number of tickets for family/friends. These tickets being sold are most likely their "extras." I mean, once you have mom, dad and siblings, you probably would not feel too guilty about selling the extras....

That is very upsetting to hear. I can understand people wanting to be able to listen to her speak but people taking advantage of it and selling tickets. I find that very appalling.

I know more people said how expensive it was, but I didn't want to clutter my post with quotes.
Granted, for the situation at hand, the tickets are expensive, but so were the $1,000 Kiss concert tickets, and people still bought those (For one couple it even replaced their honeymoon!). If people think it's worth it, they'll pay it. Some even actually have the money to spare (I wish I were one of them!) On the other hand, these are Harvard students. I'd imagine most of them have well-off backgrounds. I can't imagine not wanting to attend your own graduation.
