| | |  Equus stars "still in discussions" about Broadway
Contrary to yesterday's reports, The Telegraph states that Dan Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths are "still in discussions" in regards to a Broadway run of Equus.
The article goes into further detail as to who was considered to replace Dan in the West End when he leaves in June to film My Boy Jack and subsequently Half-Blood Prince.
It seems that David Pugh, producer of the show, had discussions with Pete Doherty's manager. Jamie Bell was offered the part but declined as he wouldn't be required for the Broadway run next year.
Richard Griffith's role was offered to Robin Williams who was said to be "interested" but then got offered a different role in a movie. Quote:
Mr Pugh said yesterday that he decided to close the show "on a high".
He said: "We could have replaced Dan and Richard, but the thought of having to do a half-cocked production into the summer didn't thrill us. There are half-a-dozen very good and upcoming young actors who could have taken over from Dan, but then I needed to get the right Dysart.
"I'm not exactly inexperienced doing cast changes. I did 26 of them on Art [Yasmin Reza's long-running hit play which he produced] but it's been much more difficult with Equus."
A national tour of the play is as of yet uncast, but is to follow the West End closure in June. The Broadway revival is to take place in the early summer of 2008.  | |
