| | | David Yates to direct Deathly Hallows film?
Author Lois Lowry has updated her blog, where she states that production for the film adaptation of her book, The Giver, was to begin with David Yates as director. However, Ms. Lowry explains that David can not partake in the project yet because he has signed up to direct the final Harry Potter film(s), Deathly Hallows: Quote:
David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years.
This would be the third Harry Potter film David Yates would direct, after Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince.
We await confirmation from Warner Bros. about the news.

If he does a good job with HBP then that's alright, if not... *sigh*

I won't have an opinion until after I see HBP. OotP was good, but I want the final one to be done right...perfect.

I like OOTP. You can't put the whole movie down to him. You have to take things like the script and the acting into perspective to.
I wouldn't mind if he directed the last one.

I wouldn't mind if he directed the last one. True, you can't blame an entire movie on the director. I think Steve Kloves is back for HBP, so the screenwriting will be back to its usual superb quality. But I didn't really like the pacing and overall mood of the film. The previous movies had been getting better with each installment, but I thought OotP took a downturn. But I will reserve final judgement until I see HBP.

I wouldn't mind if he directed the last one. I agree so much. All a director does is direct his view of how the movie look and actors should act in scenes. It's up to the cinematographer on how it's shot. There's so many things at play that viewers don't understand. Look twice at a film and all the other elements before you judge the director.
I really enjoyed Order of the Phoenix! I think it was leaps and bounds better than Goblet of Fire. It did a wonderful job of tying all the movies together. I think it'll be great if we get one director for the last 3 movies. It'll keep a consistency that I think is really missing from the series.
Let's hope he's on for the last film!
And John Williams doing the score will tie everything together beautifully!!

I didn't really like OotP that much...it wasn't as great as the first four ones. If he really does direct DH then he has to do a better job.

I would prefer the Mike fellow who directed Goblet of Fire to direct DH. He seemed to get involved more.

OotP is my favorite HP film, but DH is my favorite book (OotP is the second). I wouldn't mind seeing him doing DH. It really depends on if the script and things are better.
I don't see what's wrong with him...

| I didn't like OotP because of the script. People often put together the acting and script and blame the director. If you ignore that, then David Yates did fairly good.
Besides, it was hard to do OotP. It was the least favourite book of the series acording to certain articles, because it was long-winded and somewhat boring on the whole. Considering what they had to work with, Yates did pretty good.
I honestly loved it when Chris Columbus did the first two movies - I thought the first one was amazing despite so many cuts and changes of the book he did amazing. Too bad he won't come back as director, but he's still in the movies as producer.
So overall I don't mind Yates, he's a good choice out of the director of PoA (for sure if you ask me) and GoF (definitely - to me at least. Very good acting parts as well as shots but I didn't like it that much on the whole).
But out of all of them, Christopher Columbus did the best if you ask me.
So... I do hope Yates does it if Columbus doesn't He can 'redeem' himself with the script having better results (hopefully!)

| Seelow ☆ Overnight Celebrity ☆ Perky! ☆ Harley Quinn I'm seriously going to have to wait until I see HBP to give my full opinion on this article because I didn't like how Yates did OoTP so he's got like one more chance of redemption before I start pulling out the torches.
As for the screenplay, I really do NOT like Steve Kloves because you can tell by watching the movies that he's a big H/Hr guy and that's not Canon. I just don't want Kloves to mess up R/Hr in HBP or I will hunt him down.
