| | | David Heyman on the GoF PG-13 rating Entertainment Weekly has a new quote from WB and David Heyman discussing the PG-13 rating that ' Goblet of Fire' has received in the US.
"Kids. One moment they're frolicking under the Whomping Willow, and next thing you know they're like, thinking about making out 'n' stuff. Yes, the Harry Potter franchise became a man recently when the MPAA smacked the fourth flim, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (due November 18), with a very grown-up PG-13 rating."
"We anticipated at some point this was going to happen," says Dawn Taubin, President of Marketing for Warner Bros. Pictures. "It was just a question of when." Although the rating - the MPAA is concerned about "sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images" - may lop a serious portion of the audience off at this 6-year-old knees, Producer David Heyman is unfazed. "Kids loathe to be patronized," he says. "The most important thing for us is to maintain the fidelity to the material. [It's] a little frightening at times, but that's the book."
"(What's so scary, exactly? Try the murder of a Hogwarts student and the rebirth of You-Know-Who.) Parents might flinch a bit, but the PG-13 certainly didn't hurt the latest Star Wars outing, another all-ages title, or either Spider-Man film. Only, hold up: In the wake of the painfully tragic sixth book, Half-Blood Prince...goodness, does R-rated territory lie ahead? "I don't think we'll ever get there," Taubin says with a laugh. "One movie at a time."
EW have also rated GoF as their number 1 anticipated fall movie.

I don't think a pg-13 rating will make the movie flop, I think more people will go and see it. I found out that most people who don't read the book think Harry Potter is for little kids. I think Graveyard scene is the main reason it has a pg-13 rating.

Well, they`ll lose some people who`d watch it if it wasn`t rated that(how it`s called?) PG-13. But children`ll see it, some other way. It`s like under-age casting a spell in an adult wizard`s house, I suppose. |

I guessed that would have happened. I mean in POA quite a few parents left with their children toward the end. I still think that kids will go see it, with their parents of course!

My niece, who is 7 years old is indignated (wich is funny to see but... nevermind) cause the rated lets her out of bussiness...
well, dunno how efective it will be; the parents are more scared to see the movie than their children... (still remember my sister´s nails on the theather chairs´s arms...scared to dead, when the dementor opens the Harry´s door compartment. funny to see, again - never minddddd) ... more scared than their kids...
so, I figure: what the hell they are gonna do when they need to rate the 5th book? i mean, Harry goes really trouble in it...
maybe I wont be able to watch that movie(the 5th one), either...
anyway, my niece says that she will go to see the movie, whatever it takes...
i´ll better prepare for whatever that means.

If they rated this movie anything less than a PG-13, they aren't being faithful to the book. GOB is definitely a more darker book than the first three, particularly the ending. It won't stop kids or parents from taking their kids to see HP.

I would deafinately agree with the rating on the new movie. I decided a long time ago that I wansn't going to let my six-year-old sister go see the 4th movie. Heck, she had nightmares about Fluffy from the first one! But anyways...

I think the rating will make more kids want to see it. Anyway won't the kids rent it when it comes out on video?

Of course it is the number 1 anticipated fall movie! I mean, it is Harry Potter. And it is true, it does deserve a PG-13 rating. I mean, from here on out, HP is not all hunky dory. I mean, hello, You-Know-Who comes back! lol. And all the challenges/trials? Scary stuff. Very edgy. Plus, the boys n' girls are getting gaga eyes, they are growing up, how cute |

I disagree. Mainly because I believe that the fan-base is not mainly kids under 13. Of the people who have been with HP from the start they most likely well over that age. And I have to admit I saw many more teens and adults at the HBP release than rug-rats. I think it'll make it to top ten with no problem at all. |

I highly highly doubt it would ever get to R. The Ring, which was way more morbid than any Harry Potter book, was only PG-13.
PG-13 isn't really that big of a deal thoough I think. You can see a PG-13 movie if you are under a parent, you just have to be with a parent *shrug*.

I wonder if its because of the Wormtail cutting his hand that GOF has been given a PG-13 rating.

I think giving it GoF a PG-13 rating just makes people want to watch it more. And im sure alot kids under 13 are gonna watch it. It not really suprising to me because this is the book when harry, ron and hermione start to grow up and start to see real life.

Heh, it's definately not going to R--and i'm only slightly suprised at the PG-13 rating. I figured, hey, if they can rate The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants PG (which was a HUGE mistake on their part. They lost alot of the teen crowd--some think it's below them to watch a PG movie--and it got a bad rep among the parents) then surely the HP series will hold out.
But I agree how someone said that the fans are growing up with the movies and books--and some of the little kids that are just starting out reading them prolly haven't finished book 4 *some of them*--and i don't think it's gonna be much of a problem.
Think Pirates of the Caribbean ^_~

I guess it makes sence for it to be PG-13. I mean someone does DIE! It's alright with me.
