[img]http://www.snitchseeker.com/images/news/hp_grandpre_80.jpg' align='middle'> Barry Trotter now a bestseller - Summary:
Spoofs of the biggest books, such as Harry Potter, are becoming best sellers in their own rights Article:
Thanks to Wizardnews Quote: Spoof books parodying hits like 'Harry Potter' and 'The Lord of The Rings' are also becoming bestsellers.
According to The Sun, a new chart that came out yesterday shows that the sales of such publications is rapidly increasing.
Even last year's surprise bestseller about punctuation 'Eats, Shoots And Leaves' is not safe, with a parody version due out in September. Quote: The top five parodies that have become extremely popular are:
*Bored Of The Rings,
*Barry Trotter And The Shameless Parody,
*Sh*te's Unoriginal Miscellany,
*Barry Trotter And The Unnecessary Sequel
*The McAtrix Derided Quote: 200,000 copies of 'Barry Trotter And The Shameless Parody' have been sold in UK in just three years, whereas its follow-up, 'Barry Trotter And The Unnecessary Sequel' has sold 110,000 books. Each of these books cost 6.99 pounds.
US author Michael Gerber, 35, is the brain behind Barry Trotter series whose third book 'Barry Trotter And The Dead Horse' is out this Christmas.
The No.1 best-selling spoof 'Bored Of The Rings' was put together 35 years ago by staff at The Harvard Lampoon and it finally made it across the Atlantic.
Publicity Manager of Gollancz Publications, Nicola Sinclair said, "Spoof books are popular because they make fun of things that need to be made fun of."
No doubt, the originals may have made their authors wealthy, but now the writers of these spoofs are also raking in the moolah. (ANI) Hollywood Nes Online |

i don't think spoofs should be encouraged. they might be funny but it's not fair on the original author/authoress.
first to post again!

My mom bought the first Barry Trotter book a while ago and she read some of it to me and my sister. We all thought it was a very funny book. Why are you worried? It will never sell as many copies as the original series so what's the problem?

Barry Trotter was boring IMO, I wasted around $30 on the two books. They're not that funnny, just kinda stupid.
But Bored of the Rings was really good

Each to their own I say. I've read Barry Trotter and the Shameless Parody and thought it was funny, even though it took me like an hour to read! But when I started to read The Soddit I wasn't that impressed, I got to the 3rd chapter then stopped. It just didn't make me laugh. These books are good for a bit of light-hearted fun and if the original writers don't object then neither should we. Besides we have to be reading something until Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince comes out! |

I think parodies are awesome. If I was an auther I'd take it as a compliment because even if the person didn't like my writing, at least they took the time to read it. I love humor!

Parodies are hilarious. I really wanted to read the two Barry Trotter books. You are no less of a HP fan if you decide to delve into parodies. There are a lot of funny HP parodies at fanfiction.net, too. I agree with Madame_Tonks said: it's like a compliment, to have someone go through so much effort to parody a piece of work, like JK's books.
