| | Passwords & Account Security | | It is the responsibility of each member to keep their own passwords private. Members will be held responsible for all activity done on his or her account. If a site violation occurs on an account, its owner will be held responsible for the infractions incurred. It is in your best interest to keep your account information to yourself and when creating a password try to choose one that cannot be figured out by others, i.e. avoid using names of family or birthdays. If for whatever reason your password has gotten into the wrong hands, please contact an Administrator for assistance. | | | Inappropriate Topics | SnitchSeeker is a PG rated family site. In order to keep our site friendly to all ages, volatile topics (listed below) are not permitted to be discussed in any form on SnitchSeeker.com (including in the School, Ministry and Diagon Alley RPGs, RPs, and FanFics, PMs, usernotes, the chatroom, signatures and avatars).
Topics include:
Violence
No weapons are allowed unless they are clearly fantasy (no guns at all, including toy, water, finger, cartoon, etc). No blood or gore. Fighting (hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, etc.) is allowed in moderation in all FF and RPG sections of the site. Please read the individual section rules to get the specifics. Actions, descriptions, and graphics depicting guns or acts of (or intent to cause) violence will be warned or infractioned.
Drugs and alcohol
Conversation about alcohol/drugs, reference to or hinting at drinking/drug use, or graphics depicting alcohol/drugs will not be tolerated. Cigarettes and smoking fall under this rule and is therefore prohibited. Butterbeer, firewhiskey, and wine (since they are in the books) are allowed in moderation in Fanfiction and RPGs (read section rules first!), but we do not allow drunkenness, alcoholism, alcohol related violence, etc.
Cutting, Suicide, Self Mutilation
Not allowed anywhere on the site for any reason whatsoever.
Sexual diversity, Homosexuality
In order to keep the parent approval rating of our site as high as possible, we disallow the use of sexually diverse characters in all RPGs and FFs. This rule is not in place to offend or judge or imply the opinions of SnitchSeeker staff, but to ensure the younger members are not subject to more mature topics that their parents may not otherwise allow. Relationships may be talked about (any and all!) as long as details are not given. No homosexuality debates or graphics are allowed.
Religion, Politics
Subjects which polarize people tend to stir up strong emotions and start fights. SnitchSeeker is not a place to debate, preach, or campaign. No religious or political conversation or graphics are allowed anywhere on the site. | | Common Courtesy | Please respect SnitchSeeker members and staff. Persistent/Rude Flaming (typing in all capital letters - considered shouting), provoking, disrespecting, or offensive behavior towards others will earn you a warning/infraction. If you have an issue with a particular member do not take matters into your hands or argue with them anywhere on site. Instead, PM a mod or admin with your problem or use the 'report post' option under the member's username.
We are all here to have fun and a little common courtesy goes a long way. | | Lewd and Sexual Behavior | Hand-holding, romantic embraces, flirting, brief kisses on the cheek or the lips are allowed throughout the site. No explicit bedroom scenes are allowed anywhere on the site. This set of rules applies to the sitewide School, Ministry, and Diagon Alley RPGs.
Exceptions to the rules above are found, and clearly defined, in specific Fanfiction and Roleplaying rules.
Pornagraphic material, grabbing of body parts (besides hands), forceful sexual advances or harassment (both verbal and non-verbal), etc are not allowed anywhere on the site at anytime. | | Profanity | | A censor has been put in place to block certain words. Defeating the censor by replacing letters in a cuss word with other letters or symbols is not permitted and will result in a warning. Not all words that can be used as curse words (for example, hell and damn are both allowed) are censored. Using these words in a way that is meant to be harmful towards another member will result in a warning/infraction. Excessive use of hell or damn (as deemed by the staff) can result in post deletion. | | Languages | | While we do have (and encourage) members from all around the world, the primary language for Snitchseeker is English. When posting on this site please do so in English, for the obvious reason that mods need to be able to read what you are posting.
(The only exception to this is when posting in The Dept. of International Cooperation where we have moderators for each language). | | Signatures and Avatars | Avatars
SS provides a selection of avatars to for your use (Newbies are only allowed to use the SS provided avatars); however, should you like to use your own avatar, please remember to follow the rules:
For sorted members, members, mods, staff, and admin, the maximum image size for avatars is 100X100 pixels and the maximum file size for avatars is 20.0 kb
For newbie members, the maximum image size for avatars is 80X80 pixels and the maximum file size for avatars is 15.5 kb.
(NOTE: Your avatar must be within the image size and file size limits). If the avatar you wish to use is too large, you will need to resize it.
Signatures
ABSOLUTELY NO direct linking is allowed.
The character limit in signatures is 50 characters. If you would like a signature which exceeds this limit, you must submit your signature for approval and insertion by a moderator. Please read the signature rules and instructions for submitting a signature before you do so.
+ Maximum 3 (three) images.
+Maximum size of ALL images, combined, cannot exceed 60kb [61,444 bytes]
+ Maximum length: 200 PIXELS or 11 LINES of size 1 text
+ Maximum width: 450 PIXELS
+ USE TAGS/CODES ONLY. HTML doesn't work.
+ Do not take personalized signatures or avatars. This includes editing other's works.
+ Do NOT direct link.
+ Remember that the SS Board Rules apply here too.
(note: please be careful that you do not add extra blank lines at the end of your signature, these will scroll the boards just as much as an oversized image or too much text)
Anyone who puts in their own signature but does not adhere to the rules above will have their signature or avatar taken out and a warning will be issued. | | PMs, Spam, and Site Advertising | All rules apply to PMs as well as the forum. This means no profanity, no lewd behavior and no abuse. Think of it this way - if you wouldn't be seen saying it in public, then it is not ok in a PM either. Anyone harassing other members through PMs will be severely dealt with. (If you have received a disturbing PM from another member, please forward the PM to a mod or admin).
Spam (multiple posts in a row or posting meaningless, unrelated matter in a topic) is not permitted anywhere on the boards (with the exception of the TP).
Advertising your site through PMing members or posting in threads is not permitted. If you would like to promote your site, please do so in your signature. | | Consequences | Failure to abide by any of the rules contained in the SS Board Rules can result in editing or deletion of posts, removal of signatures and/or avatars, detention or expulsion (for school-related offenses), warning/infracting, suspension, or banning.
While there is a warning system in place, the warning system may be skipped at the discretion of the admins. Pornographic material, extreme violence, security issues, and/or unruly conduct can and most likely will result in automatic banning from the site.
All of the SS Board Rules apply to the entire site, including the School, Ministry, and Diagon Alley RPGs, chatroom, PMs, usernotes, graphics, etc. | | The Warning System | Rule breaking is handled by two levels of action; Warning and Infraction.
Warning: A first offense is met with a Warning. This is like a verbal notice from a mod or admin; the member gets a Private Message informing him/her of the offense and pointing to the rules so they can learn from it. No points are given with a warning. The exceptions to this are serious things like posting pornographic material or sexual predation, each of which earns an immediate and permanent ban from Snitchseeker.
Infraction Repeat offenses are met with an Infraction. Offenses are weighted, and some infractions will cause you to get more points than others. After receiving 10 infraction points, you will be suspended from Snitchseeker, no matter what the infractions were for.
Expiration: People learn from their mistakes. Warnings and Infractions (and the points that came with them) expire after a while. Like the point weight, how long an infraction lasts depends on the offense. When it expires, the points no longer count towards the 10 that lead to a suspension. If you received 10 infraction points and were suspended from the site, your suspension will expire once your point total expires down below 10 infraction points. (For example, a Spoiler Ban Violation infraction carries 10 points and lasts 10 days. If you posted a spoiler during a spoiler ban, your suspension would only last 10 days. Your points for this would expire and your suspension would lift automatically).
Banning: A member who reaches the level of 30 unexpired infraction points or who has accumulated a total of 25 infractions (whether they are expired or not) will be permanently banned from the site. The exception to this are serious offenses such as posting of pornography or sexual predation which will result in an immediate and permanent ban.
Please note that warnings are not grounds for suspension or banning.
Records and Reversal: Administrators have the option of reversing any warning or infraction that was given in error, or that was given so long ago no one cares anymore. People learn from their mistakes, and if a member made a mistake as a newbie but has a stellar record for a long time, the Admin team may choose to erase the warning or infraction from the record. Please do not ever ask an Admin to erase your record. It will only be done when there is time set aside to do so and if the team really feels it's warranted. | | SS Board Rules Updates | | It is the responsibility of each member to stay up to date with the SnitchSeeker Rules. The rules may change without warning, but in general we will give notice of any major changes through our news or site announcements. Members can and will be warned for breaking rules even if the rule is newly changed. Claiming ignorance is not an acceptable excuse for rule breaking. | | Multiple Accounts | | Each member is allowed only one account on Snitchseeker. Members who are found to have multiple accounts may be infractioned and repeat offenders will be banned. Please contact an admin if you are concerned about your current account before creating a new account. | | Account Deletion | As a general rule, we do not delete accounts. If you think you have a legitimate reason for having your account deleted and you do not have any warnings, you may PM an Admin with your reasoning and we will consider your case.
Non-legitimate reasons include, but are not limited to: wanting a different username (see 'Can I Change My Name?' for options), wanting to be sorted into a different house, having several warnings/infractions, already having created another account (see 'Multiple Accounts' for more details), and no longer intending to use your account for whatever reasons.
It often occurs that people who "won't" be using their accounts anymore' invariably come back and open new accounts, then request if they can have their previous post count back, be resorted into their old house, etc. It is simply easier for all parties involved to keep open all accounts that have been created. | All times are GMT.
