Meet sweetpinkpixie

http://i68.tinypic.com/voo57a.jpg

Hello:pea:

My name is Katherine, but most people here on SnitchSeeker refer to me as either Pixie of Kath, and it is my pleasure to be your Meet 'n' Greet mod for the month of August!

I joined Snitchseeker back in August 2010 stumbled upon site by accident looking for Harry Potter movie times in Tokyo, Japan (where I have permanent resident status but am a born and raised Californian) found a news thread asking for someone in Japan to report on an event being held in Tokyo. So I volunteered to do so and then never left!

I've held various positions and roles here on site (see the accolades on my profile for full details) since joining including serving 11 terms as Astronomy professor (with the majority of those acting as Gryffindor Head of House) in the School RPG, Diagon Alley shopkeeper, and Ministry Department Head. Currently I serve as a mod for the Fan Fiction and Newbie forums, manage the School RPG's Yearbook, and news correspondent for Japan.

Off site, I am a mother of two (ages 4 and 6 months), a soccer/football fan and have played since I was 5 (I coach as well), English teacher at a small Japanese daycare (cafe in the morning to early afternoon and daycare in the afternoon to evening), owner of a prissy Somali cat named Kingsley, font addict, hater of the word 'moist,' and cannot go a morning without coffee or an evening without tea.

So please feel free to ask me anything! :D

*Jumps in here to start off the questions*

Hi Kath! :tackle::glomp::loved: I think you had one of these meet the mod threads way back when I was still a newbie doing my first 10 posts!

1. You were one of the first people I met on SS, and you've always been friendly and welcoming to me. You know I love you, right?
2. What's your favorite RP memory from any of the wizarding world RPGs in all of your time on SS?
3. My mom was an English teacher in Japan for one year! What cultural differences do you notice living in Japan vs living in America?
4. Will you do summer RPs with me if you have time to? Isa loves Derf, as always (and wants him to come visit her house that's completely covered in vines and has large gardens filled with plants). Penelope will be doing a ministry internship, and I hear a certain suited astronomer of yours is working at the ministry these days.

That's all my questions for now ^_^

Edit: I poked around in the forums a little bit and found the post from all the way back in 2014 when I made one of my first ever SS posts in your meet the mod thread :loved:

HI :glomp:

1. I most certainly do ^_^

2. oh GOSH...that is a really hard one and there are just SO MANY to choose from honestly. Some of the immediate ones that come to mind are when complete unplanned chaos ensued in my lessons with Airey. One that stands out in particular is the Fairy Tale Curse term where Airey was possessed by Captain Hook and Erik's Dante came into class possessed as Peter Pan and then KABOOM. I had actually planned a proper lesson and activity and everything, the food fight that happened during the space food discussion had not been planned at all...nor had the mutiny that had come from students. It was just all so organic and fantastic. It definitely is one of those memories that will stick with me :loved:

3. Oh GOSH waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many to list. SO MANY :whaa: it still baffles me every time I ride a train or a bus and we are no more than a minute or two behind but still the driver apologizes for the awful inconvenience they have caused by being late

4. But of course :flower:

OH GOSH THE NOSTALGIA:x3:

ArianaBlack 08-02-2017 04:54 AM

If you could only take one thing to a deserted island WHAT WOULD IT BE?

How do you feel on pineapple pizza? (this one is important)

1. :loved:

2. The Hooksteed lesson of term 38! Who could forget that one? That was definitely one of the most memorable lessons in the 4 years I've been a member of SS, and fun to play in. Penelope abandoned ship when the food fight started and went to get Headmistress Truebridge.

3. Wow, the trains there really do run on time! Where I live the train only comes once an hour and sometimes it's 15 minutes late. Is it true that in Japan they pack everyone tightly in the train to make more people fit?

4. I'll contact you about RPs again once the summer officially starts so we can set something up! ^_^

ALL THE NOSTALGIA! Today I've been looking through all your old astronomy lessons that I played Penelope in :x3:

I thought of another question!

My friends say I should start watching anime, but can't agree on which anime I should start with. Some of the suggestions they've had are Sailor Moon and Attack on Titan. Any suggestions or opinions on which anime I should watch?

I feel like you often ask me this question and I never quite know HOW to answer. Suppose from a practical standpoint and the ten billion and five seasons of Survivor I've watched...going to go ahead and say fire in the form of flint:whut:

Not particularly a fan

*skips on down to number three but yeeeeeeeeees all that* :loved:

Oooooooooooh yeah :whaa: I've been on some trains where the conductors had to use these rods to help push people in through doors and such. It's been really rally bad, but thankfully I do not tend to be on trains that crowded. Rush hour is INSANE.

Sailor Moon was my first anime:loved: the locations (shine where Rei lives, the schools the girls attend, etc) in it are actually REAL ones and I went on a bit of a Sailor Moon pilgrimage to all of them a couple years back. I wrote my college entrance essay on Revolutionary Girl Utena, that's a personal favorite. I also really like Fushigi Yuugi, Magic Knight Rayearth (or really anything by CLAMP), Fullmetal Alchemist (both incarnations), Death Note...I could go on and on but

Hi Kath!

I'm also a mom of two! 4 years & 2.5 years.

Are you already introducing HP to your kids? My son could care less (2.5) but my daughter recently became interested in the movies, I've also started reading to her-3 pages a day so it's going to take a long time!

How do you find time to devote to SS and everything else you do? You're a busy momma!

HELLO AND WELCOME TO SS!

I actually have been introducing them to it since they were in the womb:lol: With my first I played the audiobooks into my tummy with headphones and due to the various trips down to Universal Studies Japan I have taken for SnitchSeeker (which become short family trips) along with the frequency I watch the movies my 4-year-old asks me to read the books to him as a bedtime story. We've only made it through book three thus far though.

SS is my little escape during the day - most of the time this comes at night when the tiny humans are asleep. It's also my little English haven since I spend the majority of my days in my second language. Having a creative outlet like this is a great stress reliever and I enjoy the creation process that comes with this community:loved:

AthenianWolf 08-15-2017 09:34 AM

HIIIIIIIIII YOOOOOOOOOOOOU :glomp:

Oh gosh good questions :whaa:
  1. The nickname was actually what my friend and I came up with as my phone email address/username when I was an exchange student in Japan my junior year of college:xd: I was wearing pink at the time (some board shorts and tank top like some stereotypical Californian:lol:) and pixie was on it so I went with pinkpixie but it was already registered and I asked my friend for an English adjective and she gave me sweet. So...that was that:xd: Pink is not my favorite color and I actually prefer blue/purples:xd:
  2. making materials for my lessons is actually really soothing:xd: Also just going out for a walk or riding my bike places. My bike has seats in the back and front for my boys, so we can go on rides together to the park or around town. It's really nice ^_^
  3. I personally didn't want any of them to end up with each other and veto'd both pairings:mellow: #TeamHarry&Lunathough
  4. I'm kind of this style here they call "Mori Girl". I prefer earth tones or darker tones (like navy) to bright colors. Lots of blues in my wardrobe although I do have a favorite yellow/orange top for summer.
  5. Y U M M Y:whaa: stands for it everywhere and there is an especially good place in the train station I use to get to work. The temptation is real.
  6. ...........just because you graced your question with that word I am going to IGNORE your question. So there:tongue: *mature adult person*
  7. ALL THE TIME! I was literally discussing this the other day with some friends:xd: Ryoma (age 4) I think is going grow most into being a Hufflepuff, he displays a lot of those traits now, with Gryffindor as his secondary house. Shintaro is a Ravenclaw with Hufflepuff as his secondary house I think..but he is only 7 months old now:lmao:
  8. AVOCADO IS SO EXPENSIVE HERE I CRY:cry: ahem. I mean...okay. I love avocado and so does Ryoma. We put it on toast often - he calls it "green toast"
    :yoshi::yoshi::yoshi::yoshi:

Alright. I adore Ron. The films ruined him (not in casting but in writing) but I never really got on board entirely with him and Hermione. Or him any any other female character. For me it was all about his dynamic with Harry and their friendship. I'm very much team Luna and Harry and am disappointed THAT relationship never happened

But in terms of Ron and Hermione...that is a relationship I see where they challenged each other and it was HARD. I believe Rupert is on record saying they likely went to lots of marriage counseling, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing if both sides are willing to work for it.

OH GOSH. Okay...so broad sldfjsllfkjs. Um um um...I'm a fantasy nerd so the Lord of the Rings trilogy is another set of films I could watch over and over (no Hobbit. Keep that away from me and let me have my book version please). TV shows I could watch Glee, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and such over and over again. Then there is my list of anime I enjoy and haha we could be here all day listing and sorting people :whaa: :whaa:

Gosh what an introduction there, Saki:lmao:

*goes all Balrog on your Gandalf*

1. uuuuuuuuh...it was probably about eating something that I didn't actually eat but had pushed off the table and to the floor for the dog to eat. Only time that dog liked me was when I was dropping it food:mellow:

2. I wouldn't change a thing. I actually entered university as a Computer science and mathematics double major...but I quickly became disinterested. Not because of the subject matter but because the professors and myself just didn't click. So I switched to a Japanese studies major with Japanese minor and here I am now ^_^ although I do wish I had a degree in education.

4. All 9:cool:

5. :shifty:

6. grinding teeth -___________-

7. As if I wouldn't get that was a Game of Thrones reference :lmao: I do like me some dragons :hmm:

Hello and welcome to Snitchseeker! OMG YOUR USERNAME:loved:

I mean...ahem.

Harry Potter is popular...but it's by no means the cultural influence that it is elsewhere. I tried once in my elementary school lessons a few years back (around when Half-Blood Prince was hitting theaters) to use Harry Potter to help me with some English. What can Harry Potter do? He can play quidditch. He can speak with snakes. He can use magic. He can fly on a broom. 'can blah blah' practice. And when I put a picture up and asked who this was...a lot of the kids ended up staring blankly at me. My soul hurt. Thankfully I had the back up plan of using Naruto and that got everyone on the same page but

Awww thank you! I was torn between this and I Am Groot but figured it would be strange to be tagged as a first person sentence.

And that's kind of sad...Potterverse with a Japanese aesthetic/twist would be so interesting to see. I've always wanted to RP the Japanese wizarding school Rowling mentioned, Mahoutokoro.

HAHA. Wouldn't have been strange at all but this works out just fine ^_^

There are still some HUGE fans here, my oldest host brother is one of them, but when I describe Harry Potter as this coming of age story and a representation of my childhood because I literally grew up alongside all these characters...I'm met with a lot of 'ooooooooooooooooh' in awe sort of looks. Doesn't hold that same place over here but still very much appreciated.

I actually had headcanon'd my own wizarding school in Japan prior to her reveal of all these other schools (I have a love hate with all these other wizarding schools she made, to be honest) called Himitsumahou. That's another fun little aspect of the Potterverse here on Snitchseeker, we have A LOT of expansion made by members!

You are welcome to clog and ask as many questions as you like:lol: Tis what the thread is for. At present...no and I only have a very basic beta version of an offsite forum site in place that needs a lot of work. But there is the possibility of something showing up in Knockturn Alley perhaps :3

omg that's adorable:loved:

Technically my second language is Spanish. It's what I studied in school from second grade through high school to AP level and achieved a decent level of fluency. I have unfortunately lost most of that though because of a lack of speaking (although I have done some VERY basic translation work for some foreign families over here) it since starting university where I switched to studying Japanese which I now live and breathe 24/7.

I used to know a fair bit of Elvish too...that was my dad's doing:lol:
