Hello Newbies!... and others This month I will be one of the two SS staff members you can meet. First and foremost, welcome to SS! I hope you all have a funfilled and memorable time here.
Right so... introductions. I will be brief, so that way you can ask me questions and 'discover' me. My name is Emily, I live in Western Australia. I'm a High School teacher, my area of expertise is in social studies, history and english.
I have numerous hobbies (asside from SS), which include reading, writing (yes I was a Ravenclaw)... singing and dancing (though I'm not very good at either), I used to love horse riding and ice skating, I love listening to classical piano, I drink at least three cups of tea a day..... and I think I'm getting carried away.
In terms of SS, I became a member in September of 03, played two terms before I became inactive (too much travelling and family drama), then I returned in December of last year and rekindled my relationship with SS. Now I'm well and trully addicted (again) and will be here for quite a while. I played as a student last term and was looking forward to the next term when *drumroll*.......... I was asked to become a staff member, and so here I am in the flesh/text-flesh. This will be my first term as a staff member, so it will be a learning curve for me. But I am super excited to share the experience with you all.
Also as of Wednesday I will be travelling around the UK, so feel free to ask me about my experiences
So without further ado... please come, read, ask me questions, get to know me and hopefully I will get to know you also.
Just dont forget the SS Site Rules |

Better Question. What's your favorite piece on the piano?

Emily! I love classical piano and tea, too. And, being an anglophile, I'm immensely jealous that you're going to travel around the UK. So, questions, questions... -ponders- Lame question alert: Did you watch the royal wedding a few days ago? |

You say that you like listening to classical piano, so I was wondering, do you play the piano (or any other instruments?) But icky weather is good weather hehe well no... I tried to learn piano when I was younger, and we do own a piano... but I failed and lack to motivation to try to learn it now. I am however highly proficient at playing the triangle Quote:

Well I'm doing a contiki tour, so I'll be visiting a lot of places... it'll be very very busy. I can't wait. I think I'm most looking forward to London in general- Big Ben, Westminister Abbey, Buckingham Palace, London Eye etc, but I also can't wait to see Ireland. My boyfirends family have an Irish background, so it will be nice seeing where they came from.
Hehe thank you, my charrie is looking forward to seeing your charrie Quote:

Anyways, the real question is... being a teacher in real life, will you give our SS charries difficult homework? *stares* Um... my username huh. Well Hera is the Greek Goddess of Marriage. She was one of Zues' wives, and is the arch nemesis of Hercules. I just like the sound of Hera to be honest. also a sligt link to Battlestar Galactica
Edit: forgot your second question! haha my bad.
Hehe I could be evila nd say yes .... but no the difficulty of the homework will be at an appropriate level I'm nice... having said that even in RL I try to avoid giving out homework when I can, just because I know how horrible it is, generally its only if they havn't finished tasks in class. And revision work of course. Quote:

Better Question. What's your favorite piece on the piano? BAHAHAHA lol. *thinks*.... Jacob. I love Jacob haha he's amazing and ... well he's a nut. I'll never forget that CoMC lesson where he didn't want to hold Emily's hand hehe.
Ooohhh favourite piece... well I am a huge fan of Philip Glass... so Metamorphosis One ranks VERY highly with me. Although I am partial to May Be by Yiruma. Quote:

If only you could have watched me watch the wedding. I was in my pj's with my lap top... (SS)... a pot of tea so I wouldn't have to get up, hummingbird muffins (a tray full) and a box of tissues. And yes I cried!!! I am such a girl
Oh and now I want Kate's wedding dress! stunning.
p.s. I just realised... I am an anglophile!!! this is news to me.

Emily, if you get a chance during your travels, I really recommend spending some time in Liverpool. I'm a student there and it's just an amazing city, lots of history and culture and just as much modern things for a great night out!

ANYWAYS. Its nice to say HIIII to you Emily!
I must say, good luck with the trip - I'm planning on saving up (after all recent new job ) and traveling - so if there's a place you loved a lot let me know.
Anyways question time...So you joined in 2003? Did you by chance know a member back then called "Blonder_than_u" I know random & specific because we've been on the site for about the same amount of time ...cause I joined in 2002 if we RP'd together back then it'd be so much fun.
anyways another question (greedy i know) what inspired you to come back to SS when you did?

You know blonder _than_u actually sounds very famililiar... and I have noticed your 'formerly' tag before. Though on trying to recall by eary days on SS I'm not sure we have. After all you would probably have remembered Emily Browne then... I played her first year and second year before I went inactive, then when I came back I thought I'd finish her off
Um... I was just really curious. I looked back on my SS memories quite frequently-so much fun. And so when I logged back on it was almost as if I never left, the love was always there. Quote:

Its definately NOT cold... haha even our winters are quite mild. Generally around 18 degrees Celcius- and thats on a cold winters day... otherwise its about 22 degrees. Our summers are killer though. Especially when we have a heat wave *glares at the horrible summer that was*... We had a record breaking number of days above 40 degrees (I dont remember how many days we got to... but it was long...)
In terms of accents... to us we don't have an accent. We speak normally. Its all the Brits, Europeans, Americans Canadians etc that DO have accents but I suppose you would probably thin I had an accent.
Fun can be found wherever there are fun people.. so if your fun, and know fun people then Australia is definately fun. Just depends on who you know and where you go.

I know what you mean - you know actually ironically Emily did look familiar to me...*scratches head* and yeah, I have to say thats really interesting about the weather being so mild in the winter - I'd be so happy about that instead of the frigid mess I deal with...vermont winters are anything but mild.
anyways about traveling - ever been to New Zealand? If so ever been to the south island "cape foulwind" area by the Tasman sea? or the Nelson/Picton area?

No I've never been to NZ or ... well anywhere else in Australia beyond WA, and even in WA (Western Australia) I haven't really seen as much as I probably should have
I travel mostly in Europe.

I travel mostly in Europe. Well if you ever got to New Zealand I'd suggest going to Wellington of course its really neat it was the only city really on the north island I went to, but if you go to the south Island somewhere near Picton I did see the most hillariously named store.
Woolmart - as you can tell its a Wool store...the entrance was a sheeps underside - face area, and the exit had a sheep's bum above you...yeah it was funny to see.
Anyways if you ever go to the US you should come to Vermont of course and I'll tell you the amazing places to go!
Like for example: The Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury Vermont (they give free samples at the end), and of course another place the Vermont Teddy Bear Company Factory in Shelburne Vermont - it also is home to the only VTBC store in the world and its nice.
and the tours there are only 2 dollars per person and kids are free - not only that its the original jointed Teddy bear store and yeah the tours are great...if you like un bearable bear jokes...(you will hear ones like THAT all the time at the tour...even the workers are called "Bear Crew"
anyways....another place in NZ area Christchruch is supposed to be nice and if you like Rocky crab (which i'm not a fan of personally...but my mom and dad said it was the best they'd ever had) Kaikoura has the best in the area apparently - outdoor crab shops
anyways.
New Question time.
(very random)
What are your stance on Billboards? ie do you like them/think they are eye sores?

Hi Hera!
My name is Amanda And what part of the UK are you traveling through? Right now I'm working on saving my money up over the summer (getting a job!) and am hoping to be able to make it to the UK next year, but I have no clue where to go or stay. I just know I want to be able to visit Leavesden Studios for the tour.

Poretsis Hi
well I packed in anticipation of coldish/wetish weather... so skinny leg jeans... cardigans, jumpers, scarves... boots yes! but I did bring my sunglasses. So far the weather has been quite unpredictable. First day in London was rainy... then I purchased an umbrella because I left mine at the Hotel ... but as soon as I stepped out of the shop th sun came out I was very disappointed. Quote:

What are your stance on Billboards? ie do you like them/think they are eye sores? Haha oh wow that sounds amazing! hehe not sure when I'd have the time or money to go their Vermont or NZ, but they are now officially on my "To-Go" list ... its a pretty long list though
OOoohh randon question! yay!... uuummm. Billboards... I don't have a problem with them- most of the time. Though I think it also depends on the advertisement. I like witty funny ones... Or even just really pretty ones... or ones that are mysterious- where you don't quite know what its about.
Hhhmm yes... however I do not like billboards for mortgage companies that have football players representing them... ugh so lame.
FYI: I'm referring to AFL players... Matthew Pavlich in particular... if anyone knows who he is. Quote:

congratulations, you're officially the first person to call me Hera hehe I like that... it has a nice ring to it. Lol um.. well I started off in London yesterday... then made my way through Bath and am currently in Bristol until tomorrow. .. then I head up to Liverpool and then York.
So it's a bit all over the place. Enjoying it though. UK is brilliant! Oh I would definately reccomend coming to the UK, so far its been a blast. I'm doing a Contiki tour: Great Britain and Ireland, its 16 days, and I'm currently at the end of day one. So far its been very very pleasant... but fingers crossed the rest of the tour goes as well. hehe thats so cool! you're so lucky. I've been here 2 days and I'm already in love with it! I think I might have to move here... at least for a year or two.
Hhhmm favourite HP movie.... gah... thats a hard one. I love love love love Prizoner of Azkaban... its my favourite book but I think its also my favourite movie... Lupin and Black are amazing- obviously. But I think runner up would go to Goblet of Fire, though I wish the maze scene was more like the books
