Nestled in an otherwise blank wall near the History of Magic classroom is a small wooden door with a simple sign reading ‘Costume Closet’. Professor Fergersnout is a huge fan of the theatrical and has utilised this empty space to store a host of costumes and props for students to borrow.

Along the left hand wall are hanging rails full to the brim with period clothing and replicas as well as fantastical and unusual pieces appropriate for any time and any play. Typical of the Professor, the costumes haven’t been arranged by type or size so it may take a little time to rummage through until you find what you want. Above the rails are a series of mannequin heads displaying headpieces including hats, masks and wigs. A small step ladder has been provided for the vertically challenged should they not want to use levitation, just be extra careful when getting these down.

To the right of hanging rails is a shelving unit jammed full of lightweight props and replicas, housing everything from fake beards to swords made of foam. A small room behind a curtain sits nearby to act as a dressing room inside which is mounted a mirror on the wall.

The rest of the room is allocated to a small podium like stage and a single padded bench, long enough to seat 4 people comfortably. Students are welcome to use this space to practice their monologues, show off their costumes to friends or get ready for a spontaneous performance. Sadly the room is nowhere near large enough for a theatre or else Professor Fergersnout might’ve built her own Ampitheatre inside.

Halloween - aka the best holiday of the year - was coming soon, and Sydney didn’t have a costume yet! She hadn’t learned enough spells to magic one, and making one the muggle way was out. She was a scientist, not a fashionista! While she could always ask her mums to send one, she wanted to do it herself if possible. She decided to check out Professor Fergersnout’s costume closet.

She perused the racks, wondering what she wanted to be this year. Her all-time favorite fictional character was Victor Frankenstein. That costume would be fairly easy to do, but it would look lackluster without the monster. Since she didn’t know enough people to befriend or trick into dressing up or enough magic to create her own (either by reanimation or by building a robot replica that ran on magic), that idea was out! What about Alastor (the radio host, not the auror)? No, she couldn’t do the voice correctly… and what were the odds she’d find a red and black wig with deer ears in here?

Sydney decided to shelf both of those ideas for a few years until she knew the spells to do them authentically. The question remained, what to be for Halloween this year? Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed an eighteenth century coat, blue with gold detailing, and an idea came to her. She could be Lestat! She wouldn’t even have to do anything to her hair for that costume… probably the only time being a blonde came in handy! Now she just needed to find the rest of the outfit…
