The Reptile Room A short distance from Professor Paton's office/cabin there is a building that wasn't there before. From the outside it looks like an ordinary building if you paid no mind to the large sign above the door that said The Reptile Room. Or perhaps your eyes have already fallen upon one of the very large statues that sit on either side of the entrance to the building, a python and a lizard. Once inside you will notice that the building is much larger than it appears from the outside. Every single creature has a tank/exhibit/area that is designed specifically for them and their needs and is larger enough for their comfort even if it may not look like it. Remember children, magic is a beautiful thing. There are little cards on the glass of each tank with the species name, what abilities it has and whether or not the students are allowed to handle it. If you would like to handle one of the creatures/or your own should you have one being housed here all you have to do is tap your wand against the glass and say "Alohomora". An area of glass large enough for you to get the creature in and out safely will open up for you. You may also help feed them, give them water or clean out their homes. All supplies are kept at the back area of the building and labeled neatly. There's also gloves handy in case you would like to use those as well. SPOILER!!: Creatures housed inside The Reptile Room |
For Zoe/Logan! Another day, another line item to be crossed off the Hogwarts bucket list. This was one that Vera had added herself, and rather recently, and it HAD felt nearly sacrilegious to add it to the original left to her by Atlas, but she consoled herself that anything that made her happy probably would have been encouraged by her older friend. That and the likelihood it would even come up on conversation was probably slim so there'd be nothing to worry about to begin with. So it was a light hearted now seventeen year old who ventured into the reptile room, a picnic basket in one hand and her other tugging Logan along with her. Who said you couldn't have a date among the reptiles and amphibians of Hogwarts??? It seemed like the ideal place if you asked her, hence the list. And even if it was peculiar, it's not like Logan was a stranger to any of her oddities. And additionally, this seemed like something Vera wouldn't have even been surprised to find out Hady herself had done. Stepping inside, she placed the basket down near the door - magically sealed so any critters couldn't get in, before she turned to her boyfriend - releasing his hand simply so she could push up the sleeves of the jumper she'd swiped from him. "Food first for us or for the snakes?" |
Logan certainly was not a stranger to the oddities of one Vera Thanatos. Those were some of the many things he did like about her. However, the blond did have to admit that her choice of location was ... a choice. When he thought of places to enjoy a picnic, the grounds (under warmer weather conditions), a spare office, or the Room of Requirement came to mind -- not the reptile room. He also wasn't terribly excited about having to walk in the cold weather to said picnic location. And, perhaps most importantly, it was within proximity to his mother's cabin, which meant the woman could walk in on them and proceed to question them about their choice of setting and why Vera was wearing his jumper. Regardless, the possibility of them being caught on their date was a bit exciting. So there he was, stupidly grinning at his girlfriend as they walked into the space where the reptiles and amphibians resided. He was slightly disappointed that the hand-holding had to come to an end, but he figured there'd be more opportunities for some PDA soon enough -- after indulging in their picnic, of course; food was always high on the priority list. "Creatures first," he replied with a nod of his head. Normally he would have wanted to eat right away, but he grew up in a household where they always fed the array of animals before themselves. "That way they are happy and won't get hissy with us." Not that he expected the snakes to really do anything if they were to dig into their picnic before feeding them. It'd be a different matter entirely, however, if they had Beans among them. |
It was lucky someone at least seemed to appreciate the perhaps less desired characteristics of her personality. Though there were certainly still some moments where she was in awe of the fact that person had ended up being Logan. Even when she had started growing interested in him as more than an annoyance who hung out with her brother, she had not actually anticipated that ever being something that would be returned. It had already been a few months since they'd officially gotten together and still it felt so new and exciting to her - the change in their dynamic. And she appreciated the fact he was still willing, if not even sometimes more willing, to accompany her on her more sillier ideas such as today. Though Professor Paton stumbling upon them was not a fear she had considered prior to this. Probably best. His grin was returned with one of her own, before she gave an excited skip away from him when he confirmed creatures first. She would have gone with food for them too if he couldn't wait, but she was an anxious as always to retrieve her own familiar from her current enclosure. She did pause before she moved away too much, standing on her tiptoes to press a quick kiss to his cheek. "Excellent choice." His comment, whether the pun was intended or not, also earned a small giggle from her. "Considering the majority in here are snakes, I think they'll still be pretty 'hissy' with us." She teased, retrieving her wand as she crossed the room. With a tap to the glass and an alohomora, Vera reached in to allow her rosy boa to twirl her way around her arm to around her shoulders where she preferred to lounge. "Hi you." She greeted the serpent before attention turned towards Logan. "Any ideas who you'll feed first?" |
He always did tend to enjoy all of the 'side-quests' they went on over the years. Even when they were younger and he found her annoying and thought it fun to The quick kiss on his cheek was a bit unexpected, but it did make him grin even more. He would have given Vera one of her own had she not started giggling and making her way across the room to fetch her snake. He made a mental note to give her a smooch later, likely when she was least expecting one. Eyes were rolled at the teasing about 'hissy' snakes. "It'll be either them or me if their feeding takes too long," he jested as meandered over to the snakes, seeing that there was no time wasted in tending to the rosy boa. As for his selection, he reached for Melody's snake. "Circe looks like she could use some lovin' first. Maybe after we both can give Amie some attention." His mum's python was quite a big boy in comparison to the others. |
Even when they'd been 'frenemies' at best, Vera had enjoyed his company too. Which was probably why she'd sought it out so often and there had been so many questions about them being together waaaaay before they'd considered it (or at least before she had seriously considered it). The newer developments were certainly even more fun than what they'd gotten up to as children, given they also were better (theoretically) at magic and could push the boundaries more of what they got up to. It was hard for her to imagine any type of life too without Logan being constant - he'd been around for more years than she could count on her hands. There was a little bit of trepidation at what would happen post Hogwarts and graduation and all of the unknowns there, but she wouldn't let herself dwell on it. Enjoy the present, yeah? Which she quickly shifted her mindset to do, admiring the smile on his face even as she'd moved away from him. That smile still always managed to make the billywigs in her belly flitter about, even with being more often the recipient of it. "Hm, so you have snake tendencies as well? No wonder you're my favorite." She replied, continuing to tease him but also taking note. There was probably some truth to his words - she certainly knew that her boyfriend happened to be a bottomless pit when it came to food. Especially considering he expended so much energy all the time. She watched as he handled Circe, her own snake now comfortably settled in her usual position as Ve moved to the snack area in order to slip on a glove so she could grab a mouse to drop off in Sherbet's habitat before she'd return for one for Sass as well. "Happy to help with that!" While not one of her own, Amie was one of her favorites too. Perhaps the first snake she really really remembered noticing when Hady had been about with him. "Want a mouse for Circe?" |
Logan chuckled at Vera's comment, his grin widening as he continued to handle Circe. "Snake tendencies? Well, can't deny that there might be some similarities. I do like basking in the sun and extending my mouth wide open when food is in front of me," he teased, his blue eyes glinting with mischief. "But I think I'll leave the hissing to the professionals." His face lit up a little more at being told that he was her favourite. He couldn't help but feel a warmth in his chest. Teasing or not, Logan couldn't resist giving Vera a playful look in return to that comment. "I suppose that makes you my favourite, then," he said, a smirk appearing on his face. As Vera slipped on a glove to handle the mice, Logan simply watched her move about. He couldn't help but appreciate her enthusiasm for the creatures. It was just another one of those quirks that made her Vera. "Yeah, grab a mouse for Circe," he said, nodding at the boa that was now coiling around his arm. "She's been giving me that look, you know? The one that says, 'I'm hungry, and I'm not afraid to hiss about it.' And I'm sure Amie won't mind a couple too." He glanced over at the python, who seemed to be eyeing them with mild curiosity. |
She couldn't help the laugh that escaped at his apt comparison of himself to a snake, shaking her head in amusement as she did so. "Thankfully that perfect jawline of yours is also more hinged than a snake's." She replied, looking over at him and grinning. The way snakes could open their mouth was perhaps the only thing about them that made Vera shudder a bit, though it was such a small thing compared to all the reasons to love them. "I'm sure they appreciate you giving full credit where credit is due on who are the better hissers." As if in agreement, Sass's tongue darted out of her mouth in that way snakes sometimes did. Though Vera was sure it wasn't actually agreement and rather just her rosy boa catching sight of the mice she was handling for the others. He WAS her favorite. And he probably had been for longer than she'd ever have cared to admit, even in a not romantic way. There was a reason she hadn't ever teased anyone or gotten as annoyed with anyone as much as she had Logan, wasn't there? She admired the smirk on his face for a moment, deciding it was much nicer to enjoy the look of his face instead of internally cursing him for being so dashing, before she replied. "I think we always knew I was your favorite, Loogie." She replied, using the old nickname in combination with her tease. "I know that look very well." She replied, eying Sass who was giving her much the same expression. Placing one of the wriggling mice in front of Sherbet (she had to admit, she did hate this part), she quickly turned her attention away to grab another for Sass before taking her and putting her back into her own enclosure with her own snack. Quickly she magically replaced the glass, traumatized still from nearly losing her scaled best friend earlier in the term, before once more returning to the mice and grabbing one for Circe this time. With the creature acquired, she returned to Logan's side, reaching out the ungloved finger to gently stroke down Circe's scales. "You know, I think her look actually looks very similar to how you are before dinner." She teased, glancing up at him and poking her tongue out teasingly, before she reaching into to drop the mouse into Circe's home as well for when he was ready to return her. She'd grabbed Amie's too when they were ready to move on to the python. |
"But imagine if it wasn't hinged. Just think of all the food I could devour with just one gulp." The chuckling from him continued as he considered the idea. He wondered if there was a spell that could make that happen, just so he could temporarily know what it was like. That, however, was something that could be explored another day. "And of course. Definitely can't be stealing their thunder." That comment of hers would be kept in a special place in his brain space. It was nice to think about that front from time to time, not that he necessarily needed to as it was abundantly clear these days how Vera felt about him. His face scrunched up at the old nickname, though he truthfully didn't mind it No words slithered out of his mouth as she went about collecting mice for the snakes. The blond was simply enjoying the view while Circe continued to move her way up his arm without him noticing until Vera reached to stroke the snake's scales. "She totally learned that look from me," he beamed. Now that the mouse had been dropped, he stepped aside to let Circe enjoy her meal. After magically replacing the glass of the snake's humble abode, he turned toward Vera and stepped toward the python's home. "Ready?" |
Listen, while Vera Brinley Thanatos loved all things serpentine… there was something a little disturbing about the imagery of Logan being able to consume his food the way she’d observed Sass and Sherbet do millions of times before. Her face did nothing to hide the fact that’s what she thought of the idea too, as her nose crinkled ever so slightly in disgust. “Um… pass. Besides, can you imagine the stomach aches you’d give yourself? You’d probably live in the hospital wing with indigestion.” And then wherever would he find the time to spend with her? She would have just been glad to know she took up any of his brain space, considering he took up far too much of hers. She also would have been really relieved to know that he didn’t doubt any of how she felt now either. A small piece of her had worried that transitioning from whatever word one wanted to use to describe them before, to their relationship now would have been difficult. But honestly? It had felt so easy, so natural. At his words, she snorted in amusement. “I don’t think I can even be mad about that. She’s a worthy selection - top tier personality, that one has.” “My surprise is zero. It’s one you’ve mastered very well over the years. I think it might even be more natural than your smile.” She teased, glancing up at him with a grin as she stepped back when he moved to return Circe as well. Amie was next, and Ve returned to the mice to grab two this time for the larger sized reptile, before returning to Logan’s side and grinning up at him. “Ready!” |
Logan chuckled at Vera's reaction to his hypothetical unhinged jaw, fully aware that it was a rather absurd thought. Nonetheless, the idea was entertaining and worth considering. In the end, the other Gryffindor did have a point. "I s'pose you're right," he gave in, letting her win this round of banter. "And having to be contained to just the hospital wing sounds like a nightmare." Of course, no offense was being directed toward Professor Feirgrund; he, an enthusiast of a healthy dose of disorganization and chaos, simply didn't like how sterile the place was. The words that came out of Vera's mouth next were something the blond was not expecting to hear, which is why a loud snort escaped him. "I wonder what she's been up to lately. Probably thinks I've forgotten all about her and moved on to somebody else," he mused with a smirk. "She does have a certain charm about her, but somehow you've managed to surpass her in the rankings." Her comment about his mastered look of hunger amusement earned her a playful roll of his eyes. "What can I say? I've had years of practice. But I guess I'll have to start smiling more often to balance it out," he retorted before he puckered up his face as if he were inviting a smooch. "Or I'll have to make this face more often." A simple nod was given when Vera indicated that she was ready to feed the python and had two nice at hand. Carefully, he opened Amie's enclosure so the mice could be dropped inside. "Bon appetite, monsieur," he murmured, taking note of the large snake's flickering tongue, clearly a sign that he knew that his meal was moments away, which meant theirs would soon be following. |
