Owlery https://s26.postimg.cc/3rt4nvl3t/owlery-banner.jpg At the very top of the West Tower is where all owls, whether belonging to you individually or the school, reside. As you ascend the tower and its many stairs, constant hooting can be heard and you can feel the temperature gradually dropping. Once you open the door, you can feel a draft blowing straight at you because there is no glass where the windows would be. A few owls flutter in and out of the windows as the door closes. |
Open :) Sophie climbed to the top of the West Tower. Stepping inside the owlery, she was greeted by the soft cooing of many owls, as well as a very pungent odor. She wrinkled her nose with slight disgust as she picked her way carefully over the floor, which was littered with things best not thought about. Persephone was roosting quite low down, and it was easy enough to reach her. "Hi girl," Sophie whispered, caressing the tawny owl's feathers. "Who's a good girl?" Persephone nibbled at her hand affectionately. "I've got a letter for you," said Sophie. It was a letter for her parents. Her mother in particular was dying to know everything that had happened so far. How would her sweet Hufflepuff mother react to the news that her eldest child had been placed in Slytherin? That would be interesting indeed. Sophie had just given Persephone the letter when she heard someone enter the Owlery behind her. |

"Oh hello," she said. "It's amazing here, isn't it? I haven't met all my housemates yet, but the prefect Aboli is very nice. How about you? How are you settling in? Do you have any older siblings that go to Hogwarts?" Sophie finished attaching the letter to Persephone's leg. She told the owl to fly back home, and she hooted once in response. Then she jumped up and flew out through one of the many open windows. |

Sophie took a minute to think about Ashley's question. Classes were interesting and fun. The grounds were amazing to explore, and of course the castle was just incredible. She hadn't even explored a tenth of it yet. "I like our classes the best so far. I really want to learn as many spells as I can. What's your favorite part? Also, you surf? That's really cool. I've never been surfing but back home my dad would take me to ride horses sometimes. That was always really fun!" |

"Healing spells sound especially good. Is that what you want to be when you leave Hogwarts? A Healer? That sounds like a good job. Oh, I didn't ride any horses on the street, only in parks and things like that. And magic is amazing. My mum comes from a wizarding family so we mostly only use magic, but my dad has taught me a lot about Muggle stuff. I think he enjoys being in the wizarding world though. I think it's hard for him to keep magic a secret too." Sophie wondered if she should ask Ashley to hang out sometime later. They couldn't spend time in the common room because they were in different houses, but maybe they could go to the courtyard sometime before it got really cold out. |

Sophie remembered how confused her dad had been when she had received her letter. Her mum had to explain everything, that no she couldn't go to an ordinary secondary school in the countryside near their village. She was so glad that she was a witch like her mum. Secondary school sounded super boring to her. Magic was so much more fun than learning more math or having to practice grammar or something. Blah. |
