Boats

The pouring rain probably isn't the best welcome for this batch of first years. Fortunately plastic rain ponchos were handed out to each of them before going further down a steep, narrow path. After what must have been several minutes of slipping and stumbling, the path opens up to the edge of the Black Lake. There before you a number of small boats are docked on the shore, and, if you squint your eyes, the twinkling lights of the castle from its many turrets and towers can be seen in the distance.

Once everyone has taken a seat in the boat of their choosing, the boats all move at once and begin slowly gliding across the lake. With the rain pouring, the lake isn't as smooth as it normally has been in the past. If no one manages to fall out of their boat, the journey will take about fifteen minutes. Once the boats carry you through a curtain of ivy and along a dark tunnel, coming to a halt at the boathouse, you need only clamber up a flight of stone steps to the giant oak front doors of the school.

OOC: The Hogwarts boats can carry up to a total of four first-year students.

Betty was so glad she was the first to go down the wit slippery steep, narrow path and she also glad she was given a plastic rain ponchos because as she slipped and stumbled down the path she fell and slid the rest of the way down.
When Bettie reached the bottom she got up and let everyone know she was okay and made her way to one of the boats. Has she sat in the boat waiting for the others to join her she went over in the mind how she hopes this is not going to be a pattern. first she get startled by the chocolate frog of the train and now this.

Tad was starting to soak when he was given a poncho to wear. He didn't care for the rain in particular and was hoping the thunder wouldn't strike on top of it. He saw another girl slip and slide down the hill.. what a neat idea. "Cool!" Tad used the poncho as a platform before he too took a slide down the muddy hill, laughing on the way down. He was wet, but not dirty aside from his shoes when he got up to sit in the boat.

"That was a cool, tumble uh... what's your name? I'm Tad. or Taddy, short for Thadius." Yep, he was joining her on the first boat. "I wonder how far the school is from here.." He commented, finding it hard to see much in the distance beyond the lights in this dark.

"Thanks, if I thought about it I would have said whee". Not that she slide down the hill on purpose but she does not mind acting like she did. Nice to meet you Tad. I'm Bettie and I have no idea how far it is to the school but I do hope it is not far I am hungry. Bettie said has she now looking across the dark water.

Poncho, schmoncho.

Except, you know, the rain really was freezing. And his hair was going to end up an absolute mess. So, after a few minutes of suffering and turning his nose up, Jó begrudgingly put on the offered poncho and slicked his wet hair back from his face, sliding down the path with relative easy - the slippery surface was basically like being on a skateboard, without the board underneath his feet.

He stumbled to a halt just in time to catch what the two people in front of him were saying, and so obviously he just HAD to pipe up as he joined them in their boat. "It takes AGES, apparently, and it's a race." Had Flynn actually told him that, or was he just making it up? Who knew?!

"The people who get there first get a PRIZE, or something. I hope you're both fast at rowing."

Of course, there weren't any oars, but Józef hadn't noticed that yet.
