Battlements https://s26.postimg.cc/5kiauiemx/bat...ts-banner2.jpg High above overlooking the lake and a section of the grounds are the castle battlements. During the Battle of Hogwarts, the battlements where used to defend the school from Lord Voldemort and his allies. This is also where Sirius Black rode away on Buckbeak the hippogriff, but keep that hush hush. Though some damage remains, the battlements remain fairly intact and provide an opportune place to be when an enemy is approaching. |
Anyone? :3 Now this, is a school with a view. After literally daydreaming in most of his classes that morning, Charlie continued to explore the castle in his free time, poking his head around empty corridors, empty rooms...and the female restroom by accident. With a bit of panic and embarrassment, he fled upstairs to escape further humiliation and ended up in the battlements where he was greeted by fresh air, and a bit of sunlight. Hallelujah, Mr. Sun! Easing his way further, he climbed up the embrasure and made himself comfortable as he watched the grounds way below. So far, the day's been good for the fresh transfer. No questions whatsoever about his former professors in Ilvermorny who committed a big boo-boo in...where was that place again? Duffytown? His parents were of course worried that he might get bullied in Hogwarts, but Charlie had faith in his new school that it'll be kind to him. It wasn't his fault anyway. |
*snags because we never RP together* Quote:
Zae didn't how to start the conversation. She instantly saw his yellow robes and noted he was a hufflepuff. Hmm...was he new? She never seen him before. Then again this slytherin wasn't TOO social. Zae figured she might as well give him a warm smile. She nodded and gave him a wave. "I didn't expect anyone to be up here. Not too many people come up here." |
*true dat* x3 Quote:
"Now that's a wonder. This is a great place to hang out and chill." he said looking over his shoulder then back to the older girl. "You come here often then?" he continued finally getting that packet of gum from earlier. |

She examined his facial features and he looked cute. She figured he might have a girlfriend already. I mean how could this guy not. "Oh I am Zarina by the way." she shrugged. "Not that you wanted to know that or if it even matters." |

Charlie got off from the wall and walked towards the girl and gave her a wave, "'Course it matters, I was just about to ask your name." he said, nodding, his eyes sparkling. Meeting someone new was right up Charlie's alley. "My name's a mouthful, but you can call me Charlie." he then fished out his packet of gum and offered Zarina a piece. Okay, maybe now he's flirting. Maybe. |
Edmund (Anyone else that wants to join!) Rylee decided to mix it up today. Rather then head outside onto the ground after her final lesson the second year made way for one of the towers. However it wasn't the Gryffindor tower she going to this time. It was all about the Battlements this afternoon. It was still light enough out that maybe she would be able to catch a glimpse of Bartholomew Henry sunbathing on one of the rocks before the sun began to set and cast it's long shadows over everything. One by one up the tight spiral staircase she went until she reached the top. Good thing she wasn't afraid of heights or cramped spaces or that would have been a serious problem. Glancing around Rylee realized right away that she was alone. Now that she thought about it more this was a really good spot to practice her dancing or do some cartwheels. For now though she was just going to enjoy the view for a few moments. |

Edmund! Hands shoved down deep into the pockets of her jeans, head tilted back slightly up towards the sky waiting for it to sink down behind the clouds, Rylee didn't hear the boy until he called out to her. "Something like that!" She called back to him before turning around to see who it was she was even speaking with not recognizing the voice right away. A soft smile tugs at her lips seeing it's one of her fellow lions. "Have you ever been up here before?" Curious as to what he might know about the place, if anything at all. Knows a fair bit about it from lessons and doing some of her research but mostly just likes looking around and enjoying the open space. Lots of room to run around and burn off energy. Be a twelve year old! |

Edmund! There were a lot of 'awesome' things around Hogwarts. It all came down to what his meaning of the word 'awesome' was. Rylee thought over the question for a second as she rocked back and forth on her heels. "Up here? Not exactly but there's loads of room to run around if that's something you like to do. It would make a pretty cool spot to play tag if we had some more people..." Which now that she was thinking about it sounded like a lot of fun. Running around, laughing, having a good time with friends in the setting sunlight. She was pulled back from her thoughts again when asked if she came up here often. "Not really. I come up here sometimes when I want space to do my own thing, there's usually not many people up here. If anyone at all." At least not when she's been up here. Ah, so he didn't know what this place was. Ry, smiled. "This is the battlements. It helped protects Hogwarts from Lord Voldemort and his allies during the Battle at Hogwarts." |

Ed looked around the place as the girl was talking, thinking that she had a very god point. “Oh yeah!” he said enthusiastically. “I bet it would make for a pretty epic game of tag.” He could just see himself for running along the edge of the wall chasing after someone else. “I bet it's be fun to play tag by that weird tree thing down on the grounds too.” It would make it much more challenging. He walked over towards the girl, so he didn't have to talk so loudly“It's weird that not a lot of people come up here. I mean, you can see everything up here.” Peering over the side he frowned. He wasn't familiar with this story. Though if it was about Hogwarts, that made sense. “Oh, I guess its one of the magic battles we'll learn about in class? Because they definitely didn't teach that at my old school.” Resting against the wall, he thought about how weird, and cool it was to be standing where some battle actually took place. |
Edmund! "Mhmm. With all this room up here. It would be pretty cool, especially as afternoon fades away into evening and it starts to get darker." It would make it a little harder to see one another but that was the point. "We should as our housemates to come up here sometime. Maybe they'll play with us." A Gryffindor bonding experience? Whoa?! Rylee hadn't thought about that but yes! "The Whomping Willow?! That would be epic! Not only would you have to run away from one another but keep away from the tree knocking you on your behind." She giggled. Now that would be a fun time. As he walked closer she smiled. "I know. I like the view." There was always something to look at from this high up. "Mhmm. We'll talk about a lot of battles and loads of other facts about the castle and the grounds and it's founders too." Leaning against the wall beside him she looked out over the distance for a long moment before glancing back at him. "I'm Rylee by the way." In case he didn't remember or just didn't know. |
Headmistress Hawthorne It was getting in the evening and while the sun had dipped below the mountains that surrounded the school, it was still fairly light out. It'd be another half an hour before the final light of day was lost, at which point Quinnlin would pack her violin and her books back into bag and would head back into the castle and ready herself for dinner. For now, however, Quinn continued to play her violin fiercely, her bow sliding angrily over the strings. She wasn't playing anything particular, just playing. The enchanted instrument sounding more like a string quartet than a solo violin. Music was an outlet for her, and tonight she was pouring everything she felt into her playing. She let her emotions drive hands and the bow; all the anger and bitterness and resentment she felt toward her parents and that letter flowing out of her and into the music. An original composition in the moment that would never be heard again. And she was still angry. Even with everything with the Moons, and her future looking suddenly much more optimistic, she was angry at her parents, and that wasn't going to fade soon. She understood now why Puck had told her she needed to say everything she wanted to, needed to to her parents. It was the only way she'd be free of it. Her book, currently displaying a book on magical theory, laid open and forgotten at her feet, its pages flapping in the wind. The cold of November had set in, which was partially why Quinn was up her, on the battlements rather than someplace warmer and with better acoustics. It was cold and none of her fellow students would be up here. It was just her, alone, the cold air biting her cheeks. The rest of her remained warm and snug in the many layers she'd put on; the black leather jacket Puck gave her made up the top most layer. It seemed to fit better with all the layers she had on underneath. |

She was casually making her way from having a casual chat with Celestia in her office, heading in the direction of the grand staircase when she heard the sound of a violin being played. Rather than continue her long trek down tot he Great Hall, she followed the sound, walking down a few corridors until she was standing at the base of the staircase that led to the battlements. Curious, she made the climb up the spiral stairs. When she made it to the top and caught sight of Quinnlin, the woman just stood there, silent, listening to the music being played. She pulled her cloak closer to her, stopping the wind from biting at her cheeks. How the Ravenclaw could play under these conditions was astounding. But the cold didn't bother the girl; she, it seemed, was too focused on ... something else. Then, after listening for a few moments more, Regina made her presence known with a quiet cough. "It's almost time for dinner, Miss Kevelle." |
The first year jumped at the cough, and stopped playing. She wasn't exactly sure who she'd expected to be standing there when she turned around, but the Headmistress wasn't it. Quinn straightened up, and studied the woman silently, as if she were a book the young girl was trying to read. "Yes," Quinn agreed finally, before emphasizing, "Almost." Still, she took the hint and lovingly returned her violin to its case. "I just came up here for a bit of solitude. Music helps me..." Her eyes flicked back to the Headmistress, almost as if trying to read her thoughts from her expression. How much did Professors actually share with the Headmistress about things, possibly, going on with students? The Headmistress wasn't letting much show on her face, so it was difficult to say. "....with things." Best just leave it there for now, yeah? Quinn slipped the violin case into her messenger bag, and picked up her book. "I was trying to work out a new spell idea I had." As a first year, it would be a while before she could hope to succeed at inventing her own spells, at least without bring them to Imogen or some other adult to assist her in working it out and casting it. But that didn't mean she couldn't start working on it now. "What brings you up here?" She asked in what might have been a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. She could remember seeing the Headmistress up here before. |

She silently watched as Quinn placed the violin in its case. An eyebrow did rise when the Ravenclaw mentioned that playing music helped her 'with things,' but she didn't inquire about that. Regina could assume, given what she had been told about the girl from her colleagues in addition with general knowledge about the behaviours and coping mechanisms of young adolescents. Regardless, if the girl wanted to give any more details, she'd let that happen naturally. "What is the new spell you're thinking of?" the woman asked, genuinely curious. As for Quinn's own question, the headmistress cracked a smile and said, "I was just heading down to the dining hall after having a quick conversation with one of the professors. Then the sound of a violin caught my attention and caused me to go on a little detour." |
Quinn visibly relaxed slightly at the question that Headmistress Hawthorne asked. It wasn't about her, or her parents or her life, or even that story she told that kid over summer. Thankfully it wasn't about that. "Oh," she said, more lively now. "I read about a..well, it's not really a condition in the normal sense of the word, but I'm not sure what else to describe it as. Synesthesia? Have you heard of it?" She didn't really wait for the Headmistress to respond before continuing. "It's where senses get crossed. So people with it can actually see music as colors and shapes. I was looking into how to enchant my violin, eventually," because it'd probably be a while before she was skilled enough for that, "to produce a similar effect when I play." She might have been a tiny bit inspired by briefly seeing the Northern Lights in a recent astronomy lesson for a few seconds before she and Reese had been kicked out of the class. "Oh." This 'oh' was uttered very differently than the previous one. "I would have used the Room of Requirement instead, but it wouldn't open for me, so I think some one was already using it." |
Quote:
He smiled looking out at everything. It was weird, he really hadn't been here that long, and everything was still so confusing, but this place already kind of felt like home. “It's really great here,” he admitted. “I've thought that class was pretty boring so far, but learning about things like that might be pretty interesting.” After all it was more interesting learning about history when it had to do with someplace you know. “Hi,” he said looking over at the girl grinning. “I'm Edmund, but you can call me Ed if you want.” |
Quote:
Her mouth opened to say that she knew about synesthesia, but the girl was already giving her a definition and continuing on about the spell she wanted to create. The woman's mouth closed, and she remained silent as the young Ravenclaw passionately spoke. "I think that would make for a wonderful spell," she finally said with a nod of her head. "What have you got figured out so far? And have you considered speaking with Professor Marchand about it?" As for the second 'oh,' Regina did notice that it was different than before. She was tempted to ask about that, but shrugged it off -- if anything, Quinn might have been expecting a very different response. Her head did nod at the mention of the Room of Requirement. "I see," she said with a slight shiver due to the cold. "So the backup plan was the battlements?" No music classroom? Or another, much warmer, part of the castle? |
Quote:
Perhaps, she'd go to Professor Grimsbane and see if she can be of any help. Or she might try to work it out herself, make this one be the first she does on her own. "I've been looking into a spell that Professor Kennedy taught...the class." She couldn't really say, 'we' as she'd missed that part of the lecture, but Rylee and given Reese her notes and they had gone over the spell together. "The one that let him produce an aurora like effect. I figure look into ways to maybe modify that would be a good start." Quinn flashed a slightly sheepish smile at the Headmistress's next question. "I had used the spare office a bit before I found the Room of Requirement, but people kept interrupting..." In no way was that meant as a dig at the Headmistress at present, but she did ask, and that was the truth. "I thought up here might give me some more solitude." And it had. The Headmistress found her as she was starting to wrap up anyway, and so hadn't necessarily been interrupting all that much. "I like my space sometimes..." She added, hastily. It was more than sometimes honestly, but sometimes sounded better to grown-ups. "What was school like for you, Headmistress?" Quinn had heard that she hadn't attended Hogwarts, but wasn't sure what school she had attended, if that was even true to begin with. Her accent certainly seemed to confirm it, but Quinn's grasp of accents outside the UK and some more prominent European countries was very weak. American, or Canadian, or Australian, she'd venture to guess based on the Headmistress's English, but she couldn't really rule out anywhere else either. |

Her face remained neutral though, even as she went on about a spell that Kalen had taught them. Was this the lesson that he had kicked her and Mr. Prichard out of, hmm? Again, she didn't pry into that even though it was concerning. But there was a time and a place for all of that, and right here on the battlements was not it. "Ahh, yes, that would be a good place to start," the woman concurred. There was no response given about the mention of the spare office, thinking there would be solitude up at the battlements, and liking space sometimes. All Regina could do was nod her head in understanding. Plus there really wasn't much of an opportunity to weigh in on that as the Ravenclaw was asking her about her own years at school. "I rather enjoyed my time at school, at Ilvermorny," she stated truthfully with a nod. "I was sorted into Horned Serpent, did exceptionally well in my studies, and learned early on that I had a passion for curse-breaking." |
Edmund! Rylee smiled brightly at just seeing his smile alone and she hadn't even heard him agree with her yet. "Awesome! If our housemates don't want to play, I say we round up all of our friends and get them up here to play with us!" That would work just as well. They could play tag. Hide and Seek. Talk and eat snacks. It would be a great time. "Exactly, we would learn how to pay attention too, be focused, quick." See they both were in the same mindset with this. She nodded. "It is." Home away from home. At first it was an adjustment but this being her second year it hadn't been to hard to slip back into the way things were the year before. As long as she kept busy she was fine. "If you're interested in learning about that stuff you can check out the library there's tons of books in there about the battles I'm sure." Or he could just wait to be taught about in during lessons. Rylee grinned back at him. "Nice to officially meet you then, Ed." |

Wait.... "Ilvermorny has houses too?" She'd always thought that was a Hogwarts thing solely. "Are they like the houses here? Is Horned Serpent like Slytherin?" She finished packing her things and slung her bag over her shoulder, because even with her many layers, the cold was starting to seep through. And it was about time to start heading down to dinner. She'd make a quick stop to the Ravenclaw tower first to remove excess layers and drop her bag in her dorm before heading down to the Great Hall. |
Quote:
A smile appeared on her lips when the Ravenclaw started asking about Ilvermorny. "Yes, Ilvermorny has Houses. There are actually a few similarities, considering one of its founders knew much of Hogwarts. But there are, of course, many differences." "No, dear, Horned Serpent, in spite of the snake being the Houses' animal, is not like Slytherin. Hogwarts Houses are based more on personality, whereas the Houses at Ilvermorny go a bit deeper than that. For instance, Slytherin is for those who are cunning, whereas Horned Serpent is considered to represent the mind of a witch or wizard. A direct correlation between the schools' Houses isn't an easy one to make, but it could be argued that Horned Serpent is similar to Ravenclaw in a way." Seeing the girl putting the bag over her shoulder and the sun in the distance, the headmistress then asked, "Should we continue this conversation another time? In my office, perhaps? It is getting a bit chilly out here, and supper won't be staying warm forever, you know." |
