The Gymnasium

https://s6.postimg.org/uosyu339t/Gym.jpg

If you need a place to stay in shape or just release some pent-up energy, the gymnasium has all your fitness needs covered! Inside, you'll find a track spanning the perimeter of the room, a salmon ladder, a few punching bags, and several exercise machines. There is a basketball court toward the middle of the room, and along the back wall is the piece de resistance: a rock climbing cave.

Looking for something you don't see out? There is a door on the right wall leading to a closet full of various sized weights, balls, and other sports equipment. And once you're done working out, we have the perfect way to unwind with a healthy and delicious smoothie from the self-serve juice bar! So why not grab some friends and some equipment and blow off steam?

this post is for any and everyone

Because Emma had spent her VERY FIRST NIGHT having a sleepover with her bestest friend EVER Lanny and frieeeend Mercy, she hadn't yet been to her own common room to explore all the new places and see her favorite chill spots. Of course she had to see her NEW dorm and NEW DORMMATES (more friends!), that had been the FIRST thing on her list until she actually GOT to the common room.

And then she saw it.

The greatest most amazing thing EVER.

"IT'S A ROCK CLIMBING WALL."

In her COMMON ROOM. This is what dreams were MADE of!!!

The second year COMPLETELY forgot about every other single thing IN THE WORLD and practically threw her shoes aside as she full on ran to the wall. "Hi wall! This is SO COOL." She was gonna have to write home for proper wall climbing shoes (or maybe they had some here???? who knew, not her), but until then, she was gonna climb NOW. And so she did, at an overzealous pace.

Okay. First night of her last year ever at Hogwarts was accomplished. As she walked past the common room, Vi paused when she heard a voice. IT'S A ROCK CLIMBING WALL. WHERE?!?!? she thought and then glanced around her. Nope. Not coming from by the fireplace or by the dorms... Instead....

By Merlin's long grey beard, where was that coming from? she thought and then ventured further down a corridor and found herself in a... gymnasium? What. AND THERE WAS A ROCK CLIMBING WALL.

"Wow. This is awesome," she said and then turned to look at Emma with a wicked smile gracing her lips. Heh. Now it was time to have some fun. "Race you to the top?"

PatInTheHat 01-06-2018 01:25 PM

Emma was so excited that she didn't even HEAR anyone coming up on her (she wouldn't have heard them anyway) but WHEN SHE DID and he heard race????? It was ON. The second year turned her head, curls bouncing wildly when she did, and grinned at Vi.

"You're ON." The much small her gryffindor stood at the wall and grabbed onto the holds she wanted. "On the count of THREE. ONETWOTHREE." And she was UP climbing!

Vi smirked at the girl’s reaction to how excited and determined she was for this race. Starting the year off with a climbing competition. It’d be fun. She was getting ready to prep for the race when the much smaller and younger Gryffindor has already called the count. Hang on! Instead of protesting, Vi also started grabbing onto the holds and began scaling up the wall.

Man... kids were fast these days.

Emma was SO FAST. She was SUPER LIGHTNING SPEED FAST. She was the fastest person ON THIS WALL and was gonna beat Vi to the top because she was just THAT good. Never mind that Vi was half a foot taller than her and probably a good climber too. Emma was going to WIN.

Oh, this school or Marchand did know Théodore well. He did need a place to stay in shape or just release some pent-up energy. Just it was usually quidditch and flying down by the pitch but now look at this place. He was definitely going to have to high five Marchand and well HEadmistress for allowing this. That is if they would let him. Anyway back to why he was here because being a Gryffindor and well being him it sounded like a great idea to challenge Abra to whatever he wanted to do in this room. Rock Climbing, the ladder or the basketball court.

Anything

Just don't tell anyone he was really really bad at basketball.

Théo just stared at the rock climbing wall in wonder for a bit before asking Abra.

"You think you can beat me to the top?"

Ok maybe he just really wanted to go rock climbing and not do it alone.

Stood directly next to Théo (aka Tayo) was Abra (aka Abey). He, too, was staring up towards the top of the rock climbing cave with an expression on his face that was somewhere between thoughtfulness and determination.

"Yes," he said in reply without putting much thought into it. "Absolutely." It wasn't really quite as straightforward as 'absolutely' because, while they were both reasonably athletic in terms of Quidditch, that didn't necessarily to translate to activities away from their brooms. Abra, for instance, couldn't stand running or jogging, and on the two occasions he had attempted to go out for a run, it had ended disastrously. He was also lacking in the strength and muscle department, BUT he was (to his utter chagrin, because IT USED TO BE THE OPPOSITE OF THIS) now much smaller than Théo. That meant he didn't have as long a reach as his friend did, but hopefully being smaller and therefore lighter would at least make up for that.

"Absolutely," he said again, sounding much more sure of himself than he felt. Worth a try, right?

Abra shot Théo a side-glance that lasted about half a second, before suddenly, and without warning, he quickly counted them down with a "ThreetwooneGO!", already making a dash for the wall.

Listen. Any advantage was a good advantage, even if it was obtained with a sneaky tactic here and there.

Vi was getting closer to the top with every step she took to scale the wall. Almost there..... she thought as she pulled herself up to another wall and then she nearly slipped. Gasping, she pulled herself closer to the wall and paused for a moment to regain her composure and just... wait. Okay. Now she was ready to continue.

Théo was thinking about the best way to climb it in a way that would be quick but not tire him out completely. Abra (Abey) was smaller and hehe wait a second let him enjoy that one last time because Abra still might grow taller than him. Yes ok, he was smaller and maybe that would let him climb quicker. Who knows.

*insert white guy blinking gif here*

NOT FAIR. FOUL. PENALTY. STOP THE PLAY.

"You Banshee!"

He ran after him and over to the wall.

Uh, Théo never climbed before so how do you do this. Oh well best not think it and just start climbing pretty slowly.

He would get the hang of this eventually.

Just hoped Abra wont go like he didnt know something or some creature that climbed rocks faster

Emma was SO CLOSE. The top was right there, and she was climbing sooooo hard and fast.

Just a few more holds and she was THERE.

Merlin's.... Emma was really flying wasn't she? She was so tiny and... and... flying up there. Well Vi would have been able to catch up if she hadn't nearly lost her gripping and almost fallen onto the floor.

Don't look down. Don't look down.

She continued climbing and every hold she achieved, the closer she was to catching up to little Miss Barry Allen.

Even as he found himself a couple of handholds and an Abra-foot-sized foothold to pull himself up onto, the Abra in question cackled to himself. Not a sinister cackle, or a bad-natured one, but the kind that anyone might give when they had successfully got one over on when of their oldest friends. Or, well... maybe he didn't know if it was successful because he hadn't won yet, but he'd definitely succeeded in getting a headstart.

"Hey, I'm just testing your reflexes!" he pointed out, as he found a foothold a little higher up for his dangling left foot, and simultaneously reached up to feel around for something to hold onto with his right hand. "So that right there was Quidditch practice, if you think about it." It wasn't, and Abra knew it, but now that he'd said it out loud he actually started to believe it a little bit.

Chancing a glance across at Théo to see how he was doing in his own climb, Abra brought his other foot up the wall, looking for another faux step that he might be able to fit his foot onto.

Speaking of which! Another advantage; smaller hands and feet, so more of the weird knobbly things he hook them onto as he scaled the wall.

You know... in theory.

They had a gym…in their dorm? THAT WAS BRILLIANT – sure, running was still not the most fun thing in the world for…anyone with a chest but it was something she needed to do. Ah…oooooooooooh they even had a juice bar?

run that wasn’t what she was here to do today…today, she was here to practice…to fight. To spar against a punching bag.

Walking up to it, she steadied herself and sized it up.

One….two…stepping back and getting into position she did it – her knee raised up against her chest…or as against as it could and then it shot out…BAM her foot connected with it steadily the way Henry had taught her those years before.

Even though Théo knew Abra (Abey) was joking. He could totally see the quidditch captain doing that. Not on the U17 team but here. Spontaneous laps around the pitch or who knows what Zoryn could think of.

"Imagine having to do something like this for practice."

He started climbing some of the footholds and slipped while hanging on with both hands. Oops cant be going to fast. He was lucky to hang on and maybe unlucky since Abra (Abey) was still going. Got to pay attention to whats going on instead of thinking about random things that will never happen.

"Stop going so fast!"

He regained his positioning and started slowly making his way up. This was more difficult than it looks. Hold up a sec, did they even bet on anything when one of them win or was this just a simple race to the top. Ok maybe it was the latter but next time he would remember to make a bet.

Eh, maybe not it would probably be lame.

The only bad part about having this outstanding gym right in their common room was that Jae, a Hufflepuff, couldn't join him. The only times it was really worth exercising in here opposed to outside were on rainy days, or during times when Jae was in class while he had a free period.

This was one of those times.

He was dressed in casual workout clothes, not his more expensive gear - who did he have to impress here? - and stretched over in a corner, doing light exercises (jumping jacks, jogging in place, jumping an invisible rope) to get his body warmed up for a real workout. He could be sloppier and a lot less attractive here in the common room, he had realized, and he was looking forward to not trying to look like he had it all together and be as out of breath as he wanted!

Once he considered himself to be sufficiently warmed up, Callum moseyed into the workout area, sizing up the various equipment available to them. It was then that he saw Mel, which made him smile, and he approached her with caution as she attacked the punching bag. "Here," he said to get her attention, and waited for her to not kick at the bag before he went and stood behind it on the other side from her, bracing it with his body to hold it in place. "Now go." Now it wouldn't swing so wildly and she could get some really good attacks in.

Emma was fast cause climbing was LIFE. At least it was HER life most of the times when she wasn't busy swimming or exploring or riding or doing all of her million other things!

Today she was CLIMBING though!

And soon she reached the top! Giggling, she tilted her head back and beamed at the older girl. "I win!" She climbed down juuuuuuust enough so she was at jumping distance and THEN she JUMPED off the wall, landing neatly on her feet and using her fists to hit the ground at the same time as her feet to decrease landing pressure. "Keep going!" She had to finish TOO before she jumped.

The gym was great…fun, but it would be better if everyone could be there. Stretching out some more she couldn’t help but grin – oh look it was Callum!...she couldn’t clearly remember but was quite she he and Carl had been two of the unfortunate souls that had gotten a little bit soaked during the boat ride across the lake in first year…don’t think about graduating she thought to herself but kept smiling over to him.

”hey thanks, I can spot for you if want later?” she offered kindly – it was only fair after all. Bracing herself again she looked over again ”ready” she half asked and half warmed as she tried kicking this time with her much less accustomed left leg.

When her foot cleanly hit into the bag she bounced back a step as she was already somewhat out of breath…maybe she was taking things out on the poor inanimate object.

Vi had already made the mistake of looking down. Oh MERLIN'S UNDERPANTS. THAT was a LOOONG way too fall. Really it wasn't a long way to fall and all but..... :shifty: It was still scary nonetheless.

And besides a girl nearly half her height had made it to the top so she had to keep going. Right. Biting her lip, Vi cast her direction upwards and continued climbing...... Lo and behold, she had reached the top before she knew it. WOW! Incredible. The adrenaline rush was something to behold indeed. Touching the top of the rock climbing wall, she then jumped down and...

CRACK!

Immense pain shot up through her right ankle and she found herself on the ground, cradling her ankle. Ow. Ow... Ow... That was very painful. She must have at least twisted it, right?

"Nice job," she said with a grin (or was it grimace) as she cradled her ankle closer to her and tried not to show the younger year that she was in any sort of pain. Vi would just stay here on the ground for a little bit.... to recover... Yeah... that was it.

Emma had broken enough bones in her short twelve years of life to recognize the sound of one AND she knew the face you made when you were trying to hide it. Granted, Emma did a lot more crying than her prefect was doing and she also hollered and rolled around.

"YOU'RE HURT." She bounced over to her, settling on her knees to try and get a look at the older girl's ankle. "Do you want me to get the healer????"

Vi could already feel the ache in her ankle as the blood flooded to that area. Shegrinaced, letting her brave smile slip for a moment. Glancing up at the younger girl, she nodded. “The Healer or the Head Boy,” she said with a small smile for she didn’t want to worry the younger year so much. Even Captain Zoryn could help too with making sure the younger year wasn’t too worried. Vi bit her lip and applied pressure to her ankle.

Ow... ow.. ow.. ow.

Maybe I can try and stand up?” she said with a smile and tried to grab onto the nearest ledge and pull herself up. Vi slipped, landing on her bum. Yeah no... perhaps it was best to stay planted on the floor....
