Barn and Pastures As you walk past Professor Wayland's hut, you will notice that there is a huge barn not too far away, with the Nursery between them. The barn is a home to many magical beasts, including some hippogriffs, winged horses, and other large and small creatures. In the middle of the barn there is plenty of open space which is perfect for taking some of the smaller creatures out of their pens to play. There are also pastures outside around the barn with fences surrounding it. You can take the larger animals out there and play with them or ride them. There is also a magical barrier that will not allow the creatures to go outside of the fence, for your protection and theirs. Professor Wayland has provided buckets, gloves, boots, helmets, brushes, etc. for you to use. The students and other staff members are permitted to come in and interact with the creatures. Anyone that enters the Barn area signed a permission slip before entering. OOC: Credit to Charley Potter for creating the above lists, with some slight changes by me! Also, if you noticed the permission slip is no longer necessary, but please post in here as if you HAVE signed a permission slip. Thanks! If you need Professor Wayland's assistance, just nudge me ;) |
"What a long day" she said with an overly dramatic exhale. The first part of the school term was wearing on her and she desperately missed her afternoon alone time. Yes, she was loving Hogwarts, but being a full on introvert, she was finding it hard to get away from it all. Emmalyn entered the Barn in hopes of some peace and quite. The animal sounds, and even their smells, were soothing to her nature loving soul. She paused a moment, just inside the front doors, and took in her surroundings. She was familiar with horses, she had grown up just down the street from her friends farm and learned how to ride and take care of them from a very early age, but this barn was also filled with many magical creatures. She was thankful to have skimmed the Care of Magical Creatures book before arriving. Before taking another step, she saw that there was a serious poo problem going on. That was one thing she was sure she could help with, plus the physical labor would do her mind some good. She quickly pulled her long brown hair back into a bun, grabbed and pair of gloves, boots, and the shovel. After searching a few minutes, she found a wheelbarrow that had obviously been use for poo removal in the past and wheeled it over to the first stall. "Hey there, sweetie." She cooed at the first stalls inhabitants. The last thing she wanted to do was startle the creature. "I'm just cleaning things up a bit for you. No need to worry." She continued in her gentlest voice. The scooping and dumping soon became a steady rhythm as she moved from stall to stall. Before long, the entire left side of the barn was free from droppings. Wanting to take a break and catch her breath, Emmalyn removed her gloves and placed them on the edge of the railing. That's when she noticed the nose of a niffler poking out. "Hey there, buddy. What's your name?" She reached into her pockets to look for something shiny, but came up empty. "Maybe next time I'll bring you something to play with." Emmalyn took a deep breath, put the gloves back on and continued with the work of mucking out all of the stalls on the other side of the barn. By the time she was finished, a good part of the day had passed. She sat down with her back against the wooden wall and looked out towards the pasture. It was a beautiful evening and the animals seemed to be enjoying the weather as well. |
Kath/Derf <3 Okay, Steph wasn't sure why she was here, but it was better than always doing with plants and being inside. Looking around, she carefully decided which creature to try her luck with today. She wasn't an avid creatures fan. Steph had nothing against them. She just preferred things from above or below her. Fairies seem like a good choice. For now at least. Walking in, she looked around and searched for the fairies. Maybe they weren't too far from where she was. Or maybe they were? Why was there not a map around? Clearly Steph just wasn't paying too much attention to anything surrounding her. |

Food, she needed to get some food for Darcy…”Darce, you okay bud?” she grinned at her chirping and somewhat agitated Jarvey. ”…I’m not going to do it,” she muttered at the little furball before reaching her hand up and giving her head a small scratch. |

"It's nice to meet you, Melbourne. I'm Emmalyn." She started to hold her hand out to shake, but pulled it quickly back to her side. Offering a hand that had just spent a few hours mucking out stalls probably wasn't the best idea. Not only were her hands probably a mess, she was sure she didn't smell the hottest either. "I've been cleaning up a bit in here. Sorry I'm a bit...well...covered in various kinds of poo." She smiled after she said poo. There was just something always funny about saying that word out loud. "Oh, I don't think I've ever seen a jarvey." She watched with curiosity as Melbourne pulled the fur lump out of her pocket. Moving forward to get a better look, Emmalyn greeted "Hi little Darcy, don't you look soft." Emmalyn still wasn't quite sure what the creature was, but it couldn't be too bad if it had been riding around in a pocket. She was hesitant to pet Darcy, not knowing what it would do, but she risked it and reached her hand out to gently place it on the creatures back. "The professor lets you adopt the creatures here?" she asked enthusiastically. A trip to visit the professor was going to go to the top of her to do list. That would give her a reason to visit the barn as often as she liked. |
Mel grinned at Emmalyn when she talked about the farm in the states.. ”oh that is great…my dad’s family has a farm in Texas,” she smiled softly, Emmalyn that was a nice name.. ”Its nice to meet you Emmalyn,”… |

Reaching out her hand, she took hold of Darcy. Being sure to keep her voice calm and her hold gentle, she began softly humming to the jarvey. "Aren't you the sweetest thing. I bet we could be good friends." Looking up to Melbourne, she asked "What exactly is a jarvey? She looks like a ferret, but I'm sure there is more to her than that." "That's great that Professor Wayland did that. I would have loved to have helped. I wonder if he will do that again..." she trailed off thinking about what sort of creature he might choose the next time. |
