Yeees, Miss Ava said good job! Mhm, she'd mastered this spell. Emmeline nodded and backed up as Miss Ava talked about the tree falling on them. She did NOT want to go back to the hospital wing this term. She glanced nervously at both Gemma and Miss Ava's horse to be doubly sure they were out of the tree's way too. Miss Ava's cuts were way more effective than hers had been, except her second one had been almost to the older girl's level. Still, she didn't want the other tree's cut to get any worse when she cast again; Miss Ava wouldn't be impressed by that at all. Plus, Isa might get even more upset if Emmeline did real damage to a second tree they weren't even using, and the Hufflepuff found out somehow. She didn't really understand the other girl's thing for trees, but she did try to respect people's feelings. Okay, she was going to be the boss of this spell this time! Emmeline made the now familiar wand movement once again and cried: "Diffindo!" Miss Ava was right, because after she'd cast the spell twice, the tree went...CRASH! Cool! Christmas tree down, everyone! Emmeline grinned up at Miss Ava: "We did it! Are you sure you don't need help getting it back?" She glanced at her Granian somewhat doubtfully, but she felt bad asking Miss Ava to do it all by herself. Besides, was it really okay to leave someone alone in this forest? "Aren't there...scary things in this forest?", she asked uncertainly. Sure, it looked all bright and snowy and Christmas-y now, but would it stay that way if someone was all alone? |
Making sure he glanced down as his pendant thingy every now and then to make sure it was still glowing, Derf let his winged horse be the guide figuring that between the two of them she would know more about the surrounding trees than he. Minus the presence of bowtruckles...but right now it did not seem as though any of those were choosing to show themselves. So when Ambrosia came to a stop in front of a growing tree no bigger than himself, he gently hugged the creature's neck and leeeeaaaaaaned around to take a peek at. "Brilliant!" he praised as he slowly slid off - making EXTRA sure not to get his shoes or anything caught up in her feathers - and ever so cautiously made his way over to the small tree. Ambrosia seemed to find his approach undignified or something, because her hooves were pounding at the ground and she was tossing her luxurious mane back and forth while making a whining noise at him that cause him a tiiiiiiiny bit of a fright and he jumped in place. "I'm jus-s-st being cautious-s-s!" he retorted defensively with his hands on his hips. "No...of cours-s-se I trus-s-t YOU...it's-s the tree I'm worried about!" Peeeering at the tree and still not approaching it fully, Derf gave a sudden lung forward when the abraxan nudged him firmly in the back with its nose. "OoooOOOOI!" he snapped, spinning around in place and once again putting his hands on his hips. "I'm working on it!" Which Ambrosia did not seem to fully believe as she was once again nudging him with her snout. "Okay. OKAY! S-Sheesh..." Wand out, he looked around nervously at his classmates and noted the spells they were doing. He...hadn't gotten all that good with that one yet...it wasn't one he had been practicing for dueling purposes THAT was for sure...so his wand quickly went back into his robes' pocket and he knelt down next to the tree instead. "Uh...a little help?" he said, looking up at the winged horse while his hands dug deeeeeeeeeeeeep into the soil to start the digging up process. He was fairly certain that abraxan could not role their stunning red eyes....but if they could that totally was what Ambrosia was doing right now. She was complying anyway though, so that was neat! Maybe they could have this tree uprooted in...ten minutes? 15? |

Surely that Penelope's little sister wouldn't be amused for this but well, that's what tree is for. "Yes, we did it!" She grinned and gave Emmeline a high five. And about for dealing with the cut tree by herself, Ava was sure about it ."Yeah, I am good with it." She said to to the young lioness. "Don't worry about the creatures around here. I am sure there's nothing scary and dangerous. Now, you should go back to the barn with your horse." But then... She decided not to use locomotion charm all the way from here to the barn and use the horse instead. Ava went back to Perseus, chanting the galdr again once more to reactivate the rune since the glow had fainted again. "Hey, boy." She spoke to the horse, stroking its mane. "Would you help me to deliver this tree?" And she could feel Perseus gave a nod. Good boy! The Gryffindor then cast locomotion charm to the tree and direct it to the horse's back. "Locomotor, tree!". Good that she didn't get a bigger tree or Perseus would have a problem to carry this. "Incarcerous!" Ava conjured a rope to bind the tree with the horse's back. Well... that would work, right? "Let's get back to the barn, Perseus." She said mounting to the horse. Occasionally Ava chanted the galdr to create a bond with the horse so they could travel safely. |
*catches up* Did this young Abraxan foul have a name? Tenacius searched around her and couldnt find any nameplates. Did it fall off? "Should I name you?" he whispered close. The problem with him giving names was that they tend to become permanent members of his ever growing menagerie. The Abraxan though wasnt messing about with naming conventions-- Wizards and their propensity to label things. Scoffs-- and she prompted him to get riding. She didnt have all day! And she wanted to get in on the action with the rest of the winged horses already engaged in making like team of lumberjacks. It was a quick mount and before he knew it the Curly Top was already in the air. "Does anybody else need help?--" Hard to see any details from up here. And as if that Abraxan thought he was talking to her-- she took a dip, gliding gently towards a small clearing. "Oh hey these look good." he said as the swooped by, then slowing down to a trot. He clicked his tongue and pointed at a spruce "That looks good doesnt it girl?" |
SPOILER!!: After the run in with the bowtruckle, the two had found another tree that was hopefully free of any magical creatures. Olivia kept on dying the tree that Vivian was cutting just in case there was something else there. It didn't seem like it. She watched Vivian cut the tree to almost halfway there. When her partner took a step back, Olivia nodded and stepped forward, readying her wand. "Diffindo," she said paired with the wand movement and repeated it over and over and over again until the tree was ready to go. And then the tree fell! Yes! They had done the first part. Now they had to transport the tree back to the barn. "Now what's the best way to transport this tree back? We could attach it to the horses and have them fly it back or maybe we could shrink it and then bring it back to its full size or something else.... what do you think?" asked Olivia as she glanced at Vivian. |
Post 6 Quote:
With their tree finally cut down and no protesting creatures, Vivian beamed at her partner. "We did it!" She exclaimed. But as for the transporting part, she looked at Apollo... and then at Olivia's thestral, Louis. She didn't want to burden them with having to carry the tree. "It'll probably be more convenient for us and our horses if we shrunk it." Right? The Slytherin took her wand out once more and cast a shrinking charm ("Reducio!") at the tree, then watched it as it lessened in size. Pleased with her spell casting, she smiled to herself. "We should start heading back," Vivian said, about to jump back on Apollo to finish off for the day. |
part 2 - finding a tree "Please not so high!" the prefect squealed, squeezing her pendant as Lincoln started rising higher and higher as he rapidly jolted forward. Lincoln heeded her plea, folding his wings inward just a little to allow them to descend. Soon they were flying level at around twenty feet above the ground. Lincoln was incredibly fast (Granians usually were) and even while descending, he managed to keep the same pace. Kitty's hair was thrown backwards and at times she had to squint to avoid having liquid come out of her eyes. And it was, amazingly, fun! Kitty wondered if this was what a roller coaster felt like, she never thought she would have liked them - but this strange thrilling sensation she felt was very pleasurable. Quote:
Lincoln made a sharp turn then, jolting her a bit unpleasantly (she held on tightly) as he flew towards some of the other flying horses. He came to a graceful landing between two fern trees. "Oof," she grunted, then, heart racing, climbed off. "That was awesome, Lincoln," she informed him, petting him above the nose before turning to face the two ferns. Nearby she also saw a white winged horse (Ambroise) and her rider (Derf) digging a tree out with their hands and hooves. "That looks extraordinarily messy," she informed them, watching curiously. "But I like it, because that's what Muggles would do to. That, or chop it down with an axe." Well, actually, she didn't want to do THIS thing the Muggle way, as there was no way she'd be getting her hands dirty. But she didn't know any spells either, so that really limited her. |
Quote:
She nodded at Vivian's suggestion to shrink the tree. That seemed like the best idea to her and would stress out their horses far less. Olivia watched as Vivian took the lead with shrinking the tree and she smiled. Yes! They were good to go. "Beautiful." They were so close to accomplishing their task. And when Vivian suggested that they ought to head back, Olivia nodded. "Sounds like a plan to me. I'm glad that an army of bowtruckles didn't come after us," she said with a small laugh as she got on to Louis. Briefly glancing at Vivian to make sure that she was okay, she patted Louis and then the two took off into the air. This was the only type of flying she enjoyed. She felt safer on a thestral than on a broomstick. Olivia and Louis landed back where Etta was. "Well done, Louis," she said as she slid off of the thestral's back, readying herself to help Vivian with the tree. |
Stasya & Noelle The mother and foal continued to not move. Slowly but surely, the bigger horse stepped out, leading her and her baby outward step by step. There was something about the two humans that assured her that they meant them no harm. It was like there was some sort of connection between them, some unexplainable bond of trust. But then a tree nearby crashed onto the snowy ground not terribly far away. The mother unicorn's head shot over in that direction. The foal jumped, scared. Then another crash sounded. Within another moment, the unicorns ran off, back into the forest where they could not be seen. |
Derfael & Kitty As the boy dug up the soil (a challenging task considering it was winter), an old gnome awoke from its slumber. There was a hole at the base of the tree that had inches of snow that was protecting it from the winter wind, but it was now exposed. It shivered, cold and grumpy. Whoever was doing this was going to get a piece of its mind. Potato-like head peeking out of the hole, it saw the source of the sudden chill in its tree burrow. There was another human there too, but she wasn't actually doing anything. So that made the boy its primary target. It did not hesitate to jump out at the boy, hoping to sink its sharp teeth into him before he did anything about it. |
Emmeline & Ava With all the commotion going on, considering a few trees had been dropping left and right, a duo of nifflers made their way to the edges of the forest. They knew why trees were falling. Humans. Possibly humans with shinies! Going their own ways they approached two of the humans, sniffing like crazy. One climbed up the younger one, whereas the other rolled over beside the chanting girl looking cute. Did they have anything they wanted to donate to the niffler cause? *SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF* They wanted shinies! |
She watched as each student bonded with their selected horse and gave them each a small wave as they flew off to retrieve their tree that would be used to decorate the castle. So far, things were going really well. Squinting, she could even see how those that had starred fairly close to the creature barn were doing. Soon enough, the sound of a few trees falling echoed. As minutes passed by, Regina chanted the Ehwaz galdr and gave Philippe a pat on the head before climbing on top of his back. After some trotting, they were in the air, flying around the grounds. The woman was checking in on everyone's status and making sure none of the forest animals were causing any difficulty. She had been worried about the bowtruckles, but it appeared like they all were getting on just fine. Taking note that there were a few students already heading back to the barn, the headmistress quickly glanced down at her watch as she made her way back. Once Philippe touched the ground, she took out her wand, shooting green sparks high into the air. It was time for them all to head back, whether they had a tree with them or not. OOC: There is still some time left to get your main activity post(s) in. Please do so as soon as possible. The lesson will continue in roughly 6 hours. |
part 3 - just defending Quote:
But before he could answer her question, something jumped out form under the tree and went straight for him! It was a gnome, she realized - and a very unhappy one at that. This tree must have been his home, and he was unhappy that humans were taking it. "Immobulus!" she shouted, pointing her wand straight at the gnome and hoping she didn't accidentally hit Derf. |
Catch up post (don't know if I'll be able to post more before the lesson moves on) :3 As more and more of her classmates were leaving the ground, Felicity ceased petting the horse and hesitantly mounted her. "Alright, Corena," she muttered softly, patting the animals side to indicate that she was ready to move. They plodded into a clear space, gathering speed until Corena unfurled her wings and they were in the air. Felicity had never felt anything like it: the wind whipping through her hair was cold, and she pulled her scarf closer around her neck. She felt safer than she did on a broom, although she enjoyed flying on them, and wound her fingers into its mane before gazing down. "Okay... Over then." It didn't take much encouragement for the horse to begin its descent, and once they'd landed Felicity directed her in a trot closer to the trees. "What do you reckon? This one?" She knew that Aethonian's, despite their size, were ridiculously strong, but nevertheless the tree she had picked out wasn't incredibly big, a nice sized pine. Sliding off the horses back, she contemplated the tree before her and then pulled her wand from an inside pocket. "Here goes... Defodio," she muttered, drawing her wand at the base of the tree and gouging out a section of trunk. It took a few goes, but eventually, about half of the wood from the base had been removed, and she could see the trunk was balanced rather precariously. Rather than continuing with the gouging spell, Felicity had an idea. "Carpe retractum," she muttered, watching ropes of light come from her wand. With a quick tug (that actually took far more energy than it looked, and left her with beads of sweat across her brow), the tree fell towards her, it's weight causing it to break off the remaining part of the trunk. She quickly wiped her brow with the back of her hand, before turning to the horse. "That went better than expected." Only, now was she debating the strength of the animal, and just felt cruel to have the tree dragging it down. Biting her lip, she turned back to the tree, casting the Feather-light Charm. Of course, her spellmanship wasn't incredibly strong, and so she doubted the tree was actually feather-light, but the her casting was usually enough to at least lift some of the weight. Conjouring was a branch of magic that she hadn't attempted yet, so she knew that Incarcerous would be well beyond the scope of her abilities, and frowned as she thought of another way to transport the tree. With the feather light charm on it, she supposed that if she shrunk it, she might have a chance at carrying it... But how many shrinking charms would that take? "Reducio. Reducio. Reducio." Concentration was evident on Felicity's face as she moved her wand multiple times in a V shape. It took a few attempts, her spell getting stronger with each cast, until the tree (minus a few branches that had fallen off in the process, but she didn't notice the scruffiness) was small enough that she could cradle it in her arms. As she'd expected, it wasn't feather light, but it was no longer heavy, and she clutched it to her chest as green sparks shone in the overcast afternoon sky. "Time to go back." Still clutching the tree in one aching arm, Felicity awkwardly clambered back onto the horse and squeezed its flanks between her knees. Within mere minutes, she was in the air and heading back over to the Headmistress. |
Post 2 Cassie had gotten close enough to touch the Granian, her hand raised to allow the winged horse to sniff before chancing a rub of the creature forehead. She looked her four-legged companion over a little bit better, trying to remember a name from her time at the barn taking care of the creatures. “Would you be Corena?” she chanced, seeming to remember a certain mark of her coat, the filly giving a playful snort in response. “I’ll take that as I yes, I suppose.” Cue playful nudge into her hand and a laugh from the girl. Definitely a yes. “How about we go for a ride?” she suggested, moving them along as Cassie noticed more and more of her classmates moving onto the tree-hunting portion of the activity. Corena seemed to agree to it as she answered by lowering herself forward slightly to allow the Ravenclaw aboard. The pendant was certainly helping the barrier between human and horse be a lesser issue than it normally would be between them. “Thank you…” Cass remarked as she moved to climb aboard, the Granian straightening up to her full height once she was settled. Woah…high…thank Merlin she hadn’t been attracted to a Abraxan. Those creatures were HUGE. “Alright…let’s go find a tree, Corena” she added, urging her ride out towards where the others were, the winged horse needing no further urging. Corena racing off in response and Cassie having to quickly take hold to avoid taking off. |
Kitty and the GNOMES!!! Digging and digging some more, Derf had now taken on a position like a dog digging in the dirt after something. Like those dogs that would dig in hole looking for foxes and such. Bum in the air and head down focused on his work, the Hufflepuff began making his way arooooooound the tree in a counterclockwise fashion - clockwise could have worked too, but Ambrosia had nudged him this way and he was inclined to listen to his abraxan, you know? Which was why he gave a bit of a jump when Kitty spoke to him. "Or if you are the s-s-sort who is-sn't practiced with a S-Severing Charm," he replied with a sheepish shrug. Not an exclusively muggle method. "Or a canine." The tree was rather loose now and he SUPPOSED that if he had a firm enough grip and upper body strength that he COULD probably pull it free? He was going to give it a try. Unfussed by all the dirt under his fingernails, the second year set to do just that when SOMETHING lept out from the ground AT him. "AAAAAAAAAH!" Speaking of canines, you know? Flailing about a bit, it did not take Derf long to figure out just WHAT was on him and for WHY. Which made every muscle in his face DROP and the GUILT that ate away at his insides like he did chocolate frogs was unreal. Deciding to just let the gnome bite his shoulder with a noticeable WINCE because the beast had SHARP teeth - he deserved it for being a home wrecker - he shoved his dirty hands into his enchanted trouser pocket for the small box of worms he kept with him for Scamander. "Was-s-s that your home?!" he squeaked. Under the tree? "I'm s-sorry I didn't mean to...but I reckon thes-s-se worms will tas-ste better than my s-should---" But then Kitty was raising her wand AT the gnome. NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOO! THE GNOME WAS JUST TRYING TO COMMUNICATE ITS UPSET! NO NEED TO ATTACK HIM FOR TRYING TO COMMUNICATE! Spinning at the last second - after the deer in Lumos look had faded - Derf spun and took the spell himself while sufficiently dropping the box of worms he had collected earlier that day to the ground, allowing them to spill out of the box liking wiggling living pasta. Needless to say, the green sparks sent up by the Headmistress had gone completely unnoticed. The second year couldn't turn his head in that direction to see, you see. |
Post 3 Shay was waiting for a great idea to pop into her head, when she saw some green sparks go up in the distance. "Uh oh", she said to her horse. "Looks like time is up. We need to head back." Not without their tree though. Shay was going to make this happen. Suddenly, a thought came to her. She wondered why she hadn't thought of it earlier. She looked at her buddy and smiled. "Good idea." Shay went back to the tree, unholstered her wand and concentrated. Pointing at the tree, she said, "Diminuendo." Thank Merlin, the tree began to shrink in size. Soon it was small enough for Shay to lift it. She carried it over to her Aethonan, lifted it onto his back and climbed aboard. They were actually going to do this. Holding things steady, she said, "All set. Let's go back now." With her free hand,, she gave the horse a pat and they were off. Happy that they had accomplished their mission, Shay focused on enjoying the ride. All too soon, it was over. Buddy boy came in for a smooth landing.......and they were back. Shay climbed down and put the tree on the ground. She then focused her attention on her horse. "You did a great job. Thank you for helping me. I couldn't have done it without you." Shay wrapped her arms around the Aethonan's neck and gave him a hug. She was definitely going to have to come and visit him when she came to see Coco. They had bonded now. Now there was the tree to attend to. Shay got her wand, pointed it at the mini tree and said, "Engorgio." The tree grew back to its normal size and all was well. After Shay finished saying goodbye to her newest, bestest friend, she would rejoin her classmates. |
Quote:
A niffler! Shoot, please don't steal the pendant you little cute thief. But the sniffing and wanting the attention though just... Ugh, how could something (besides her boyfriend) being adorable and annoying at the same time? Ava couldn't use her wand to make this creature stunned, that was somehow not a right thing to do. Lucky that she didn't wear any jewelry today but the rune pendant. But if the niffler took this from her, there's a possibility that she wouldn't fly with the horse very well. Merlin! Reaching into her pocket, the Gryffindor found a knut. Hmmm.... Alright, it's only a knut anyway. "Do you want this? Catch it if you can!" She said as she tossed the knut away. Pretty sure the niffler could find it because it was its nature, finding the shiny things. |
Ava The niffler laying on its back in the snow noticed the shiny around her neck. It continued to look cute for her, hoping that she would bend over so that it could snatch the pretty. Its tactic was simple: look cute, reap the rewards. Only ... its plan wasn't really working. All the girl produced as a knut. Beady eyes followed the knut as it was thrown in the air. Instinct told it to chase after it, and so it did. Sniff, sniff, sniff. Be right back. Looking for that coin now. It would come back after getting the coin if the girl was still there. |
Derfael & Kitty It wasted no time digging its teeth into the boy's shoulder. It served the kid right for disturbing it and trying to take its home. No matter how much flailing the human did, he was not going to let go until the message was clear. Loud grunting sounded as the boy started squeaking. The gnome didn't care what he said. It was not happy one bit. And then the boy stopped moving. The gnome took the opportunity to release its bite, dropped to the ground, and retreat back to its home. A handful of worms were snatched before it disappeared into the tree. |
With the green flare in the air, the American dismounted and touched her feet back into the snowy ground. Two pats were given on Philippe's chin and another on his muzzle. When she heard the flapping of wings, her head moved to the side to see who the first arrivals were. Smiles was given their way, impressed with the techniques that they used to transport the tree from where they found it to the barn. Feather-light charms, shrinking charms, and locomotion charms were cleverly utilized. With the arrival of each student, she internally listed them off in her head. Cambridge, Harrington, Morrison... "Please leave the trees along the fence over there," Regina stated, pointing in the general direction near the gate on the outer part of the fence. She would get Wayland and Baldvinsson to help her bring them up to the castle later. "Once you have deposited your tree, go ahead and bring the horses back inside the fence and dismount. Make sure you thank them for their assistance before gathering around me." A few minutes went by to give them all time to get everything where it needed to be. She stood there, waiting patiently, with watchful eyes. Philippe whinnied and his head against her, resulting in him getting more pets and even a carrot to munch on. "To bring our lesson to a close," the headmistress spoke once everyone was ready, "I have a set of questions for each of you to answer. Today you all invoked the energy of Ehwaz to form bonds with horses and then encourage teamwork to successfully bring back a tree that will be used to decorate the castle. It is my hope that this lesson has helped you develop a deeper understanding of Ehwaz. At this time, I would like for you all to respond to these questions: What was something you learned during class today? How can you personally use Ehwaz in the future? Please provide specific examples in your responses." OOC: We are at the final part of our lesson! Please feel free to wrap up wherever you are at with the main activity and then respond to Regina's questions. The lesson will conclude in roughly 24 hours. |
Post 7 :: last one for the activity + Professor's question Text Cut: Olivia! With their tree free of bowtruckle armies and finally shrunk into the size of a medium pencil box, Vivian looked over as Olivia got on her Thestral. The sight was quite weird, considering the Slytherin couldn't see the horse since she had never really seen death. It looked as if the Gryffindor was riding and sitting on nothing. Vivian would have normally laughed, but she didn't want to seem rude so she just smiled. She stuffed the tiny version of their tree inside her pocket, and then off she and Apollo went. Oh Merlin, she had wished this would last longer. She'd love it to just keep flying and flying and... THUD. Oh, they were here already? That was fast. Vivian blinked, trying to register the fact that Apollo had landed nearby Olivia and Louis. The Slytherin hopped off the Aethonan and stroked his maine again. "We did a great job today, don't you think?" She told her horse, to which she received a neigh from. N'aaaw, she adored her lovely hoofed pal. Onto her new friend, Vivian smiled. "And we make a great Slytherin-Gryffindor team!" No bad blood from their houses, whatsoever. The ancient house rivalry meant nothing to Vivian because this obviously was the new age. The Slytherin took the shrunken tree out of her pocket, and then placed it on the ground. With a flick of her wand, Vivian sent an "Engorgio!" at it, resulting to the tree growing back to its original size. Today, her usually terrible Charms skills weren't failing her so far. The blonde was quite thankful for that. Otherwise, she would have made a fool of herself in front of a new friend and the Headmistress. Finally, she turned back to Olivia. "Thanks for partnering up with me," the Slytherin said with a beam on her face. Much appreciated. Text Cut: Headmistress! It was good that they had arrived just in time for the Headmistress to move on with the lesson proper. Well, this was quite a reflective activity. But Vivian couldn't deny that this lesson had been really fun and educational. Such a mixture would make the Slytherin even more interested and excited to come back for their next Ancient Runes class tomorrow. Vivian brought Apollo back to where she first got him, from inside the fence. One last time, the Slytherin patted her winged horse and smile. "Thanks a lot, Apollo. Until next time." She hoped there would be a next time. With that, she went back to join her classmates and the Headmistress. The blonde raised her hand to answer the Headmistress' questions. "I learned that you don't only have to gain trust of the people around you and your friends, but you also have to earn the trust of other creatures. In this case, Ehwaz helped me earn the trust of Apollo...." Vivian said, and then looked her Aethonan with a grin. "And personally, I would use Ehwaz in terms of teamwork, like for an activity similar to what we just had or for strengthened camaraderie among house mates to be able to win the House Cup. Two or more heads are better than one." The Slytherin looked at her partner, Olivia, and gave her a thumbs up because they had totally did well on the teamwork aspect of the lesson. Also, yes... House Cup. She still wanted it. |
Well! Now that was unexpected, thought Kitty as Derf allowed the gnome to bite him - and then spun to take her spell. The gnome quickly retreated, and she was left staring at Derf's stunned body. "I'm sorry! That spell doesn't HURT anyone, you know," she said, a little reproachfully, because honestly. "I was only going to stun it to prevent it from biting you. Well, hold still so I can heal you." Of course he couldn't move, what was she thinking? She pointed her wand at where the gnome bit, and uttered, "Episkey!" Then she turned to regard the nearly uprooted tree, along with her two ferns. "You won't want to take the tree you were taking then, I assume. You could take one of these ferns instead," she said, gesturing to the fern trees. (Lincoln was just standing by, grazing.) "You'll be able to move in a few moments. I'll cut the tree for you." She pointed her wand at both fern trees and shouted: "Diffindo!" Then she got back on Lincoln and chanted the rune while clutching her pendant. Lincoln bent down and they managed to get the fern in his mouth. (The tree was just three feet tall and not very wide.) Then they flew back towards the barn, and the only thing bothering her was a nagging sense of guilt. |
Stasya and UNICORNS Merlin's beard. Unicorns. Noelle was looking at UNICORNS. Right in front of her. She held on to her rune, keeping hold of that energy she felt. She wanted to let the unicorns know that they didnt mean any harm. Stasya was doing the same thing, only saying the words. And ... there was a baby with the unicorn. Their rune seemed to be working as the unicorns stepped closer. Merlin's Beard Then reality struck. Trees fell and scared the unicorns. "Wait wait wait" Noelle said as the energy seemed to fade when her attention was brought back to the task at hand of knocking down the tree and getting it back. The unicorns retreated. Noelle sighed and looked back at Stasya. "Okay.. did you say diffindo?? because thats correct! Why dont we do it together? On the count of three?? 1... 2... 3... Diffindo!" Noelle said, pointing her wand at the tree, giving a glance at Stasya. Didnt seem like they had that much time left. They still needed to tie the tree up and get it back to the others. |
And Vivian made it. She watched as the other girl cast the spell to enlarge the tree trunk back to its full size. Terrific. "Definitely. An unbeatable team for sure," beamed Olivia. So much for the Gryffindor-Slytherin rivalry, huh? She liked Vivian and would definitely want to get to know her more. She seemed pretty nice and friendly. Given the chance, she'd work with her again. "Thanks for partnering up with me too, Vivian. We did make a great team!" Even Apollo and Louis had been terrific at helping them. She turned to Louis and gave him one more pat before the Headmistress was gathering all of their attention again. Olivia paused as she thought of a way to answer the question. At Vivian's smile and thumb's, she turned to give the other girl a smile and a thumb's up too. Two heads were better than one. Two people made a process more efficient than one for sure. Well.. in this case at least. "As Vivian mentioned, Ehwaz helped strengthen the bonds of trust and create a strong partnership between a horse and ourselves. It enabled us to work towards a common goal. I think this would be helpful for the application of horse racing. The horse jockey and the horse can have an improved relationship which can allow them to better understand their goal as well as each other." She paused. That made sense, right? She went for a muggle example because that was the best she could think of. Finally, she finished with, "I think Ehwaz can help us even with learning how to work with people who are not like us. You learn their strengths and weaknesses and they learn yours." |
UNICORNS and Noelle Maybe it had been the rune pendants, but a little voice in Stasya’s head told her that it wasn’t just that. The mama unicorn and her baby trusted them. They’d even been inching closer, and she had been ready to reach out to pet them. After making sure it was okay, though, like she’d done with Cygnus back in the pasture before she’d ridden him to the edge of the forest. With Noelle, of course, but right now she was way more focused on the unicorns than she was the prefect standing by her. She wanted the unicorns to trust her. But then reality struck, and one of the other groups from the lesson who had gotten further than they had managed to cut down their Christmas tree and the noise startled the poor unicorns and they had disappeared into the trees again and the small blonde’s face had fallen. All that anticipation and she hadn’t managed to achieve her goal. Of course, now she had a new goal. Making sure the unicorns weren’t traumatized. It was important. She’d heard Noelle call after the unicorns, but she hardly acknowledged it as her grey-green eyes had just stared disappointedly after them. She had turned to look at her when the older Gryffindor had suddenly gone back to their earlier discussion, but she barely felt any excitement over guessing the spell right. They still had to get their tree though, so she tried to shove her unicorn thoughts to the back of her mind so she could focus on trying the charm. Okay. Pointing her wand at the base of the tree like Noelle had done, she tried to focus on what she wanted to do as she said the spell with her. “Diffindo!” Hopefully they’d manage to get their tree back, and then she could figure out how she could find the unicorns again. |
Stasya The unicorns were still in her brain, ideas dancing around in her head about them. Noelle really wished she could go after them. But she was in class. That would have to be another adventure. Shaking out the thoughts in her head, Noelle concentrated on the job at hand. Diffindo had worked. The tree fell. "Good job Stasya!!" She said, trying to bring the girl back to the present. She could tell she was distracted. "'m sure the unicorns are okay." She said encouragingly. Holding her wand out, she pointed it at the tree. "Incarcerous" She said watching ropes comes from her wand and bind up the tree. "Let's get our tree back to the group, yeah?" She asked, giving her a smile. She knew it wasnt as exciting as going after the unicorns, but the Headmistress wasn't too far away. Going into the forest now wasnt a good idea. "How about you ride and lead Cygnus back to the group?" She asked looking down at her as she tied the ropes to Cygnus. |
Ava, mostly NIFFLERS though Quote:
The first year had just been about to follow Miss Ava's directions to go back when she felt a creature climbing up her! She felt four little paws with tiny claws on her legs anyway, and looked down in momentary confusion. IT WAS A NIFFLER! Nifflers were her absolute favorite creatures EVER! She never passed up a chance to play with the ones in the barn. This forest was the best! When the niffler had climbed high enough, she picked him up (if he'd let her) and tried to cuddle him against her shoulder. "Hiii, cutie!" She made a sort of perch out of one arm so that the niffler could cuddle against her chest/shoulder if he wanted, and reached out slowly to pet him with her other hand. She wouldn't do that if he got scared, though. Of course he wanted shiny things, and fortunately for Emmeline, the only shiny thing she was wearing was the tiiiiny bit of silver that held her winter cloak attached. She doubted he'd be able to get it undone, though, because Nanny had placed lots of strengthening charms on it before she'd left for school in September because Nanny knew how much the eleven-year-old liked to play with creatures of all sorts. She may have seen some green sparks out of the corner of her eye, but the Gryffindor's sole attention was for the niffler. Could he stay with her forever please? To do that, though.. The first year pulled a small, plain brown sack out of her pocket with the hand she'd been petting him with. Manuevering her hands carefully so as not to dislodge him, she pulled out an extra shiny knut from the sack. She had a bunch of random shiny things in there for her trips to the barn, and the knut had been polished to a glimmering shine. He wouldn't have to search too hard for it, because she pretty much just handed it over to him. "Here, buddy, d'you want a shiny?', she cooed at him. This was the best lesson ever!! |
Post 3 At first it was a rush on the ground but soon enough Corena gained her wings and all at once they were airborne. “WoaH!” Cass let out in mild surprise before chuckling and revealing all was well with her to her mount. Not that she didn’t doubt their connection likely already shared it. Up they went above the trees so they could have a look at their choices, well her choices, from above. The Ravenclaw kept a good hold as she leaned ever so slightly over the sides of the Granian’s flanks for a better look, trying to decipher what would be best to look for. Finally, she pointed to a spot that appeared as good as any for them to land and retrieve a tree. “There…” Cassie said aloud but the winged horse already seemed to get the message between her words and movements atop her back. Before long Corena’s powerful hooves touched solid ground once more and the fifth year took a few deep breathes to recover. She then hopped down and surveyed the trees in the immediate area, her gaze eventually setting on one off to the left of where they had landed. Now to go about getting it down. “Diffindo…” she cast once her wand was out, aiming to make the first cut to the base. The girl doing her best to plot out how to work to get it to fall right. She certainly didn’t want either herself or the Granian to get hurt in the process. |
Noelle She could tell that Noelle was trying to distract her. Stasya did understand that, but it was unicorns. It wasn’t that easy to get them out of her head, nor was it easy for her to forget her crushing disappointment that someone had scared them off before she’d gotten to touch one. To pet them and make sure they knew she wasn’t a danger to them. Luckily for her, though, she wasn’t standing in the path of the falling tree, as their tree had in fact actually tipped over and crashed to the ground. She had jumped a little at the sound and the vibration from said tree, finally looking over at Noelle again. “You think so?,” she asked softly, bypassing the praise because her thoughts were still on the unicorns no matter how hard the older girl tried to get her mind off them. She was nearly decided to ask someone if she could go back into the forest to check on the creatures, but she wasn’t sure if it would be better to ask the headmistress or to wait and go see Professor Wayland after the lesson. The lesson she ought to be more focused on, but she didn’t want to anymore. “Okay,” she said simply, returning to Cygnus’ side and climbing onto his back again even as the prefect had gotten the tree bound up and tied to the Granian’s back. “But what about you?” Was she going to walk, or was she staying behind? She wasn’t really sure which option she thought was better. |
ketchup :P As she was stroking the horse, she noticed out of her periphery that her classmates were already way ahead of the game, which meant she would be left to her own devices on cutting down and bringing back a tree. Ah well, she had the trust of Rose, it seemed, and she was mostly competent with her spellwork at least up until this point in her magical education. "Okay, Rose, Time to go," she spoke quietly, as she pulled herself up onto the winged horse. It was just like flying a broom, except on a flying creature instead. Smiling as she allowed the wind to flow through her hair, she realized again why she enjoyed flying and how much she missed it when she wasn't partaking in the activity. Yes it was cold and the pastures were snow covered, but the warming sensation in heart from the passion of an activity she enjoyed, was well worth it. Guess it was time to pick a tree. Squinting at the choices, she found a tree with quite large branches. Branches that when stood upright instead of the horizontal way they were presently on the tree, could easily pass for being a tree of its own. Without actually killing a tree. "Diffindo," she said swiftly, her wand aimed at where the branch met with the trunk and the branch sliced cleanly off. Except, one issue. The crash. From when it fell to the ground. Scanning it, it seemed fortunately mostly unscathed, and upon seeing the green sparks from the Headmistress figured it was no time to waste in getting another one. "Carpe retractum" she cast, allowing her wand to form an invisible rope to pull the branch behind her. "Come on Rose. Let's go." At that, the horse took off back towards the barn where they left from and landed swiftly in time to hear the woman give off instructions. After depositing the branch!tree where designated, she then dismounted Rose inside the fenced area. "Thank you," she pressed her lips to its side. Precious horse, this one was. Listening as the headmistress closed the lesson, she blinked thoughtfully. What did she learn? How could she use Ehwaz in the future? Wouldn't she need a horse to use it in the future? She hadn't worked with anyone except the creature, so she couldn't apply the teamwork example to her classmates, and yet .... "I think Ehwaz could be used in future endeavors, because it helps to create that," she hesitated a moment, thinking of her words. "bond with species that are not ourselves. Yes, we can all related to each other, because we're all human and speak the same language, but to be able to connect to something that doesn't speak our language, well, that's magic." |
Quote:
As the niffler chased the knut that she had tossed away, Ava then mounted on the horse, chanting the galdr and asked Perseus to take off already because the headmistress had been waiting for her (and also the tree) "Let's go, buddy!" She said and took off, heading back to the barn. Again, be thankful for the runic pendant because the horse became more obedient and not really difficult to handle. Quote:
She raised her hand and tried to answer the question. "Well, based on what I have experience today, Headmistress, Ehwaz helped very much to create the bond with the horses and makes it easier to fulfil the assignment. And in the future, I think the rune can help me to communicate and gain some trust on some people." Which is cool, you know? Ava thought for using this rune to help her talking with her mother but she'd rather not to mention about this as the example. |
gnomes, kitty, & headmistress...OH MY! Well he KNEW that. He just did not think that using a spell on the gnome was justifiable since HE had been the one to provoke the attack. It was liiiiiiilke...putting your hand on a hot frying pan to test the heat and then getting mad at the fire for being hot. It made sense in the second year's head, okay? But he couldn't really SAY anything because of the Freezing Charm. His eyes could sort of follow the gnome as it jumped to the ground and took a handful of worms. HOPEFULLY that was enough to earn the Hufflepuff some favor with the beast. He really WAS sorry. His eyes were also watering because his shoulder REALLY hurt and he could tell that his shirt was sticking to his skin a little bit because of something wet. Saliva, he imagined, and probably a little blood...but it was hard to focus because it STUNG. Which meant.........hewasgoingtogoseethatHealer. NOOOOOOOO----- oh no wait. HE WAS HEALED! But once again, Derf was unable to say anything to the Ravenclaw prefect - not even a thank you for healing his shoulder! - and everyone was leaving. Everyone. Kitty had even cut down the tree he had been painstakingly digging up by hand. And there he was. A small little Hufflepuff frozen at the edge of the forest. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuummm... Well no, not EVERYONE because Ambrosia was staying by his side. Maybe...he should...could this amulet help him communicate telepathically with the winged horse? He really didn't have much of a choice at the moment with everyone gathered around the Headmistress answering a question that he could not hear. Flicking his blue eyes towards the Abraxan's red ones, he tried super SUPER hard to communicate with her to pleeeeeease do something to draw attention to his small frame. To his glee, the abraxan rose up on her hind legs and stretched her wings out wide while whining LOUDLY on his behalf. Someone please come unfreeze him? #SaveDerf |
Once Etta had returned to the barn, she placed the log of tree-wood by the fence before leading her horse inside. She was growing really fond of Aurora with every second and she wondered if she could still occasionally see her afterwards.. whether the Headmistress would allow it. She reminded herself to ask her later. It was time for goodbye.. for now. She turned towards Aurora, stroking her back a few more times. "Hey, there. Thank you. I'll see you soon, yeah?" She gave the winged horse a soft smile and a quick peck. Did the Headmistress notice that? Hopefully not. She continued petting it a few more seconds before joining the group of students gathered around the professor. "I learned that companionship and trust between companions is very important. If my horse, Aurora and I didn't have the mutual understanding, we wouldn't have been able to complete the task.. right? And I think.. this logic applies to any two companions. Be it two people.. or two horses. As long as there is a partnership, almost anything can be achieved. Ehwaz is used to create that trust, right? To create a bond of sorts with someone? So if I had to use it.. um.. maybe trying to connect with a person you wouldn't get usually along with? Is that even possible? Etta wasn't sure if that was actually.. possible but why not find out, you know? |
And just like that, the lesson was over. She would have to say goodbye to her winged friend until such a time that she visited the stables later on. Given how busy the next week was going to be for her, Jessa had no real hope of that happening any time soon. The Ravenclaw patted her riding buddy along his neck once more before any attempts were made at answering the questions posed. "I learned that it's probably a whole lot easier cutting a tree down when there's more than one person casting diffindo at it." Hindsight, y'know? They always said it was 20/20. This wasn't to say Jessa regretted going it alone; it was merely an observation. "And now that I think about it, maybe ehwaz would have been useful in getting the tree back here. It's good for transportation afterall." Again with the hindsight. Of course her plan still worked perfectly and the tree was delivered no problem but now she was thinking the Headmistress would have known she grasped the concept better if she'd used the rune like that. Ugh, next time for sure. |
... sorry, we can't resist :3 Quote:
"Derf's missing," she said automatically, and without waiting she re-entered the fenced area, clutching her pendant around her neck, she approached Rose again, who hadn't wandered too far off. "Ehwo ehwo ehwo, e e e e h w o o o, ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo, ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu, e e e e h w o o o." she chanted, to re-activate the rune, the pendant glowing the familiar shade of white as it had before, probably because it wasn't all too long ago. Mounting the horse again, she flew off back towards the forest edge, in search of the whining, which didn't seem to take too long as there was only one horse present. And one small child. Her heart pounding, when saw him, immobilized. "Derf," she whispered, the horse beneath her sensing where to go and landed beside Ambrosia. He was hurt. "Finite incantatem," she cast, unsure if he was hurt or struck by a charm, but at least it would end the magic. Kneeling beside him, she whispered, "Do you need me to help you onto the horse?" She wasn't much bigger or stronger than him, but maybe the magic evoked within the rune would allow the horse to move lower to the ground and with her support, she could aid him onto the horse's back. And she would obviously ride with him. She just needed him to make some sort of indication. Hopefully. |
Landing and sliding off the Aethonian, Felicity hurried over to the fence and dropped her tree along with the others. She didn't, however, undo the charms she'd placed upon it, for surely it would be easier for the staff to move them if it remained lighter and smaller than, you know, it actually was? She was kind of annoyed that her feather-light charm hadn't worked exactly, and massaged her shoulder with her other hand for a moment to release the tension that holding onto the tree during the flight had caused, before moving back to where her Headmistress stood, in time for the questions. "As a very personal use, Professor," Felicity said, raising a hand. "I've been given a Winged-Horse myself to look after, by Professor Wayland. I'd like to use the Rune to further my bonding with her, so I can look after her in a more understanding way." So that was particularly personal to her, but she was sure that a lot of her fellow students would agree. |
SPOILER!!: ze Headmistress So he did take down that small spruce-- may be too quaint for the Great Hall but certainly just right for a Professor's waiting area. They made short work of it this lumberjack task and it wasnt long before he was flying the tree with his Abraxan and laying it gently near the fenced area as the Headmistress instructed. "Easy does it.... ata girl!" And now he was on his way back to where the Professor called for them. Was there anything he learned about today? "Ehwaz is all about partnership, but I think we'd be a fool to think that Wizards always take the lead on this." like his Abraxan lil lady clearly was the lead today. He was just hired help. As for personally using Ehwaz in the future... "Perhaps invoking Ehwaz would be helpful in a large team project?" |
Lincoln landed a little ways outside the barn, allowing Kitty to shakily dismount him. "Thank you Lincoln," she said, hugging the Granian around the neck. "I'll come visit you later, k?" Then, taking the two feet tall tree from the ground 9where he'd dropped it upon landing), she made her way towards the others and leaned her tree up against the fence. It was super small compared to most of the others, but that was okay. When she was back in the group, she raised her hand and voiced what was plaguing her conscience: "Professor Headmistress, I think you should know that while we were out gathering trees, I stumbled into Derf. He was attacked by a gnome and I tried to save him by stunning the gnome, but the spell hit him accidentally. The gnome bit his shoulder pretty hard, but I cured him and helped him cut down another tree. He was still stunned when I left, but I think that spell will wear off after a few moments - he's probably already coming back." And she learned lots of things in this lesson. "I learned that I'm not as afraid of flying as I thought I was. Before today I'd never flown on anything, not even a broom. Also, even though I already knew this from reading, I got to see firsthand how powerful the connection between Ehwaz and animals is. Also..." Here she paused and allowed a measure of guilt to come into her expression. "I learned that's it's dumb to leave someone immobilized after accidentally immobilizing them. I should have waited to make sure it was going to wear off right away." |
The first cut made its mark but it was far from the last stroke needed to fell the tree. “Diffindo!” Cassie repeated, the spell echoing as she cast it a few more time at different angles and intervals to get all the way through. Finally, it moved almost in slow motion, the Gryffindor scurrying backwards unnecessarily as if concerned despite her actions to try and prevent getting a tree down on top of her. “Arresto Momentum!” she cast as a late added thought, slowing its descent. She and Corena were still very much safe and it hadn’t been damaged in the process. Now to get it back to the meeting point where the headmistress was waiting for them. Cass debated her options on how to bring the tree with them, hoping for not too much headache in the process. The first thing she realized was it was best for her to get back on her ride before even beginning to cast what she needed. “Shall we get back then, Corena?” the fifth year asked rhetorically, getting a playful toss of her head from the Granian as Cass climbed on. Then after staring at the tree for a few more moment, she raised her wand once more and took aim. "Incarcerous..." she cast, watching as the magical ropes tied the tree up. "Now Corena...go!" The winged horses paused for but a moment as if waking up before unfurling her wings once more and going into a run. Cassie took a tight grip with her one hand while the other grasped her wand tightly keeping the spell in place. Once they were airborne, the duo dragged a long the tree in the air with them, eventually landing carefully with their prize. |

As for her answer to her second question, the headmistress had this to say, "Yes, Ehwaz would certainly help promote teamwork among others to accomplish a certain goal." In regards to her 'an activity similar to what we just had comment,' Regina would have liked for the girl to provide a more concrete example, but she let the girl continue on anyway. Ahh, the House Cup? Interesting. "While using Ehwaz may not guarantee a win for Slytherin, you can rest assured that using Ehwaz will definitely strengthen the bonds of you and your fellow housemates, which is important when everyone needs to work together as a unified force to get to that desired goal." Quote:
"Ehwaz can help us learn how to work better with others who are not like us. We are all different and go about things differently, so utilizing Ehwaz gives us the opportunity to see that though guide us on the path to swiftly work toward a common goal." Though how was she going to use the rune? Was there anything specific? Time, she supposed, would tell. Quote:
"Indeed, Miss Diggory, it certainly is magical." Quote:
Quote:
"Do keep in mind that Ehwaz is not a rune of force, Miss Burton and Miss Kramer. It is one of persuasion and suggestion, promoting trust and harmonious teamwork. If you invoke the rune in an effort to build a bond with someone that you do not necessarily get along with, it will take some time for that bond to build. Like the old No-Maj idiom says, 'Rome wasn't built in a day,' neither is a bond between two people that are not on the best of terms. Nonetheless, a web of one-on-one connections will develop over time as the energies of Ehwaz work to spark and facilitate a harmonious emotional and intellectual partnership." Quote:
"And how would you, personally, use Ehwaz, Miss Cambridge?" It didn't need to be connected to the lesson activity they had completed today. Quote:
She hoped that the girl included a mention of using the rune when she wrote about her interactions with the horse. The woman was positive that many great leaps were to occur if Ehwaz was used to build that connection. Quote:
As for his answer (though it seemed more like a question to her) for the next response, she nodded her head encouragingly. Did he have anything to add? After all, she had asked for specifics. Quote:
Hundreds of thoughts were running through her mind. Why did a prefect leave a much younger student stunned near the forest? How could this Ravenclaw not bother to at least cast a general counter spell before leaving? She understood that the stunning had been accidental, but ... what in Merlin's beard was going through that girl's mind? In spite of the thoughts roaming through her head, Regina externally remained quite collected. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Skylar detach herself from the group and ride one of the horses away, but her eyes remained squarely on Kitty. "Too right you are, Miss Valentine. Five points will be taken from Ravenclaw House for your foolishness and lack of clear thinking when it would have been logical to cast a counter spell and returning with Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne." And on that unfortunate note, it was time for class to end. "Thank you all for a great lesson this morning. I can tell that many of you have gained a more thorough understanding about Ehwaz and the many situations that its energy can be invoked. Your trees will later be brought up to the castle later this evening for decorating, and your homework assignment will be posted then as well. You are all free to head to your next class." Some of them had quite a trek to get to their next class, so she hoped they didn't see this as the perfect opportunity to dawdle. Without another word, the woman climbed onto Philippe's back and soared into the air, quickly following after Skylar. She hoped that Derfael was alright. OOC: Thank you all so much for participating in this lesson! I hope you had as much fun with it as I had. I will keep this thread open for another 12-24 hours for you to make your character departures. Again, thank you for being a part of this lesson, and I hope to see you next time! |
Going to Derf with Skylar bc that's what friends do lol Text Cut: Skylar and Headmistress Normally, once they were dismissed, Vivian would have immediately left class to move onto her next. But this time, she was quite taken aback when Skylar went over to ride her horse back to the edge of the forest. Yes, the blonde had heard that the Abraxan whining from a distance. Thinking that perhaps Sky would need some back up for whatever reason it was, after answering the Headmistress' question, Vivian went back to Apollo. Anyway, who was Derf? The name wasn't familiar, but Vivian didn't like the sound of a student not finding his way back to the castle. She chanted the Ehwaz galdr to renew the energy and got on the Aethonan, soaring back to where they had been earlier when they were cutting down a tree. Touching down beside Sky's winged horse, Vivian hopped off Apollo and joined her dorm mate. "Is he going to be okay?" The blonde asked her friend. She hoped the counter-spell that Sky had cast would work for the poor kid. And he was an ICKLE, so that made the Slytherin worry more. Vivian looked down at the Hufflepuff boy. "Hey, uh... Derf, right? Are... are you okay?" Was he still breathing? And his shoulder... what happened to that? Vivian looked at the Headmistress with worried eyes, hoping the woman would be able to help the boy. |
catch up, Derf and other mentions Did she mention how much she loved nifflers? Emmeline would prefer to stay out in the forest with this little guy "Hi Gemma, ready to go home?", she asked the horse quietly as she approached the Granian at a steady pace. Gemma pushed her nose into Emmeline's hand again when she raised it to pet the horse, and the first year took that for assent. She trailed her hand down Gemma's neck as she carefully mounted the horse, watching out for her beautiful wings. "Okay, let's go!" Gemma didn't waste any time in taking off and soaring over the forest and back into the pen behind the barn. Emmeline loved every minute of this, and she hoped that Professor Wayland would let her ride Gemma again some time. As she slowly dismounted, Emmeline moved around until she was face to face with Gemma again. "Thank you SOOOOO much, Gemma!", she exclaimed as she petted Gemma one last time before joining her classmates grouped around the headmistress. Derf wasn't here, but Emmeline initially wasn't too worried about that. Obviously, he'd encountered a cool creature in the forest and just wanted to spend more time hanging out with it, like she had. What else would explain the Hufflepuff's absence? She wasn't going to give her friend away to the headmistress though. Nope. Now the headmistress was asking questions, so Emmeline raised her hand and obliged: "I learned that there are nifflers in the forest! And, I think I can use Ehwaz to help calm scared creatures down, maybe, because the rune will help them trust me more quickly." Okay, now time to wait for class to end so that she could go to the nursery and see Sirius. The first year's attention was sort of wandering, but she tuned back in to the other students' answers when the Ravenclaw girl prefect (Kitty) spoke up. Emmeline had paid particular attention to what this girl said in lessons ever since the Statute thing in History of Magic. As she listened, Emmeline grew more and more horrified. This girl had done WHAT?! Somebody needed to call the Sorting Hat, because obviously this girl did NOT belong in Ravenclaw! How could she leave Derf immobilized in the forest?! She wasn't just a Ravenclaw, she was a PREFECT for Merlin's sake! Emmeline felt a strange surge of anger pulse through her. It was bad enough that most grown ups at Hogwarts couldn't be trusted, but now there were evil prefects too?! Or at least prefects who did obviously evil things and then acted all casual about it. Her first instinct was to race for Gemma and fly off to find Derf, but the headmistress and some older girls who were clearly smarter than that mountain troll with the prefect's badge had already flown off. She didn't want to get in their way or disturb Derf with too many people around him. The first year leaned against one of the fence posts surrounding the horses' pen, her eyes fixed resolutely on the sky to wait for the rescue party to come back. |
Skylar, Vivian, & Headmistress :3 Pendent still glowing, Derf tried once again to sent the abraxan a telepathic message of gratitude. Her call had seemingly worked, because in the next moment Skyler had appeared like a knight on a white horse to rescue him. Only it was way more neat than just that because this was a winged horse, you know? Feeling like the Tin Man who could use a bit of oil, Derf started by stretching his mouth that had been previously hanging open. Inside was dry and his throat was scratchy, but otherwise he was A-OKAY! Minus sore limbs. And the fact that he had now missed the closing of the lesson and whatever important information may have been given and the chance to ask MORE questions. Like if this would work on ALL equestrian variety of creatures. Like...could it also work on a kelpie? Did the kelpie HAVE to be in its preferred horse form? "Thanks, Skylar," he chirped a bit groggily, smacking his lips together and voice coming out more like a dull croak. "No, Ambrosia helps-s-s with that....but I could use s-s-something to drink..." His blue eyes found Vivian - hi marshmallow girl! - and then the headmisterss...and he suddenly felt quite sheepish and his hand couldn't stop ruffling his hair anxiously. He even gave it a few awkward yanks now and then. "I'mokay," he mumbled sincerely as his eyes fell on the Headmistress next. Probably...had to explain things, right? Right. "There was a gnome ... and it was my fault...digging up his-s-s home and s-s-stuff. S-S-So he attacked me and bit my s-shoulder," he started explaining with copious amounts of hair ruffling. "WHICH he wouldn't have done if I hadn't dug up his-s-s home...S-So I was getting my box of worms-s-s out to try and lure him off me...caus-s-se gnomes like worms-s-s...when Kitty cast the Freezing Charm at him to try and help me....BUT I don't like us-s-sing magic on creatures-s-s unles-s-ss-s totally necess-sary...and it WAS-SN'T..." In his opinion anyway. "...s-s-so I took the spell myself....she healed my s-s-shoulder with a s-s-spell before going back...It's-s-s really all MY fault, Headmis-stres-ss-ss. For not us-s-sing a S-Severing Charm to s-s-start..but I'm not so good with it yet s-so...." |
When Shay was safely back with her classmates, she took a moment to jot down what had happened during her adventure to the edge of the forest. Once most of the students had returned, the professor had more questions for them all. Shay had some thoughts and raised her hand to respond. "I learned just how effective Ehwaz can be in helping someone connect and build a relationship with horses.". Even though Shay wanted to be believe that she and her Aethonan would have bonded without using Ehwaz, she knew that it had definitely hastened and strengthened the process. "I think I could use Ehwaz in my every day life to assist me during my travels, especially if I'm traveling to my home......since I live so far away." Certainly there were other ways she could use Ehwaz in her life. Shay was glad that they got to keep their pendants. |
Derf, Headmistress, Vivian Yes it might have been impulsive to return back into the pastures and fly off in search of Derf, but she knew if he was alright, he would have made it back. And she wasn't surprised to see the Headmistress behind her, but Vivian touching down beside her? Well that was a shock, mostly because she hoped it wouldn't be too crowded around the second year. "I think so," she nodded to her friend. Oh, okay, he was okay with riding back on his own and her spell that ended the magic in the vicinity had worked, as he seemed to come together more, just needed water. But despite his thirst, he seemed to have succumbed the energy to explain the situation to the headmistress and how very noble of him! He was taking the blame that it was his fault because he didn't feel comfortable with the severing charm. Oh so sweet and Sky was fairly sure her heart may have just melted because, well, HE TOOK THE BLAME!!! Except Kitty shouldn't have left him frozen.
