Playing catch up! Totally here the whole time The room had been set up in a meditation like circle. Noelle had no idea what mediation had to do with Arthimancy. She sighed. This was not one of her favorite classes but she enjoyed the professor who always seemed to surprise them. Noelle sat down and looked at the laptop in front of her. She knew what they were but she'd never actually used one. Mum didnt allow too many muggle gadgets inside the house despite her father being muggle. Noelle looked into the book and saw Reincarnation & Arithmancy. Now that seemed interesting. "Reincarnation & Arithmancy seems cool." Noelle mentioned in the midst of everything else. She really wanted to get close to that lab puppy and just love on him. A little lap lab puppy. How cute would that be? Merlin she missed her pups at home. And moving on.... Noelle's eyes glanced at the bowl and the wooden thing. She liked the letters painted on the sides of it. "Is that.... like one of those herb crushers that they used back in the day?" Like waaaay back in the day? |
She took a seat next to Tenacius and then spotted Derf waving at her. OH! HEY! FRIEND! Olivia waved at Derf. His smiling face always seemed to brighten her day. He was just such a nice young kid! She looked forward to sharing some more classes with him and Zoryn. Nice troublmakers indeed! ^_^ She remained silent and continued her notetaking as she listened to other students offer possible solutions to questions. SPOILER!!: notebook! As the professor pointed to the bowl, Olivia turned her head slightly. She had seen one of those before back at home. Her father had one for mixing different spices or crushing something. Though it certainly wasn't nearly as fancy or exquisite as the bowl before them. She wondered what the writing meant. If only she could read whatever language it was written in. Though back to the main point. What had he called it? A pestle? Ah! "I agree. It does look like a mortar and pestle...." she said, nodding in agreement with Kat (a girl who had mentioned this) but what were they going to do with it? Perhaps they were going to relate to diviniation to leaf reading? "Are we perhaps going to use the mortal and pestle to crush something and relate it to leaf-reading but..?" She had no idea but offered a guess. |
Etta made notes in her notebook, already feeling like this class wasn't going to be very easy for her. She had no idea what half of those words meant at all.. which was a little worrying. Idly staring at her book, she pondered over the professor's question. How were they to know what those bowls were for? Wasn't the professor supposed to tell them that? "They look like... um..." She started, raising a hand but.. No. Etta gave up. She abruptly turned silent, not wanting to repeat what others had said anyway. Instead, she just waited for the professor to explain. |
More relaxing… Well that did explain the reasoning for the scented incense, as well as the dog. Not that dog was always a bad scent and always noticeable to every nose. But Cass was only one member of the class and as she watched around her, she noticed more and more people coming into the room, including one girl seemingly trying to escape or something. And was that boy trying to sleep in the lesson? She wasn’t quite sure the professor wanted them THAT relaxed. Couldn’t really learn anything that way. Soon enough class began and the topic was brought to the textbook they had looked into last lesson. Cassie remembered the book, but she had to think back on what all was there, finally opening up the textbook once more. She then looked over the table of contents again as students around her started, some of them definitely sounding interesting but then technically already given so she remained quiet. As for the bowls that were shown, Cassie definitely was leaning towards a musical instrument. The metal seemed like it would be a noisy mortar and pestle. “I think they are musical in some way,” she mused after raising her hand. |
There were a few things Natalia was annoyed with at this very moment. 1. why weren't they working with numbers yet? 2. why was she asking themwhat they wanted to learn. Shouldn't' she be telling them? Wasn't that what professors did? She had NEWTs to study for and needed to know exactly what was being taught, not what she wanted to learn. 3. Why weren't they doing calculations yet? 4. Did the professor really want to teach about Tantric Numerology? Wasn't that something that wasn't very arithmancy? She sat quietly she really wasn't all about what the bowl was for. Unless it had magical numbers in it. that she could start using she was over it already. Her eyes stayed on her book and her doodles of hearts and flowers went on her parchment. |
ooc: if i missed anyone i'm sorry, i've been working on this post for three hours :loved: ALSO, please RP Yeti if you want...brain currently sputtering after 5k+ words on Chakras. also just click to enlarge the images they have ALL/most of the information on them save for the aura-charka. also...long post. bear with it. class will resume in around 8 hours |
1. The chocolate frog had escaped and Zoryn did try to save it.... But it hopped right through her arms so uh, byefelicia? 2. Brassy cereal didn't actually sound that bad. The Gryffindor would have to try it. 3. SO MANY WORDS. Dude. Zoryn was lost. Officially. She turned to give Derf an incredibly CONFUSED face, deciding to give her attention to Yeti as she pet him loads. Honestly she heard maybe three things that the Professor said and none of them made any sense. As for the question, she just gave her Professor an incredulous STARE. Whuuuuuuuuuuut? BLINK. BLINK. BLINK. BLINK. Was it too late to walk out of the room again? |
Oops ok, so bowls apparently more like glass harp playing than percussion instrument. Professor is lucky that he didnt start playing the opening beat to Iron Man. And then theres the lecture, and holy cannoli what a lecture. The Curly Top was just turning his head this way and that reading the images on the board. Did he understand any of it? Sort of, but then it was colorful and really thats the main thing that drew his attention. That and recollections of what his grandma does, which right now is a really weird combo happening in his head. He's dizzy now. But there was a question somewhere in there. So dumbly he just pointed at those images on the board that had the figure sitting in a lotus position. "Like that?" He hopes its that, because if not he will answer like this-- :bdance: -- which is a pretty accurate example of what he's feeling right now. |
Harriet still thought that the bowls would have made better cereal bowls, but the third year kept that to herself and instead just wrote some notes. It would be important so that when she saw the bowls again, she wouldn't just think that they were cereal bowls. She did need to learn something now and again after all. But she tilted her head as she listened to all this information. That was a lot of words. This wasn't her best subject, but she was going to try her best. But that was a lot of words, and maybe they were a bit too much. She made a mental note to read up on the subject, just in case it came up on an exam or something. But now to think about the question. Chakras. They sounded quite interesting, even if Hattie hadn't heard of them before. And she was sure she could make a logical answer to the question. She thought for a while before putting her hand into the air. "Maybe your body needs to be balanced? so like not leaning too far forward, or backwards, or to the side. Like it could affect how we read the affects of the chakras if we aren't sitting centrally?" It kind of made sense since on the image the pictures were all in the centre of the body. Or at least it made sense to Hattie that way. |
BELLS! So he had been right. Sort of. He DID glance over to this Olivia Phillips person and grinned at her because SHE had actually known what they were and he was pretty impressed by that. More blonde Gryffindors girls though. It seemed to be a THING with that house...and he was just curious enough to take a census on the subject. Just how many girls in Gryffindor were blonde? He could only think of TWO off the top of his head that he had met that were not blonde - Zoryn and pretty phoenix hair girl - and the rest - number of people pending in his memory - were blonde. It was this thought that had him distracted for the first part of the professor's lecture, although the colorful posters did catch his attention briefly, but soon he was distracted again because Yeti was licking his hand. So OBVIOUSLY that was where the blonde's focus went and the rest of the lecture in one ear and out the other. He didn't even really catch the look Zoryn was giving him - aka he did not notice it at ALL - and was far too pleasantly preoccupied with scratching the puppy's full tummy. Maybe they had fed him too many treats... He DID eventually look up, blue eyes catching some inconsistencies with the posters and their wording...but mostly his attention was immaturely drawn to the red one...and up went is hand. "Professor...when it says base...does that mean bum or..." Because it was hard to tell from the picture. "Is it bum? Because that makes more sense when linked with the sense of smell." For gaseous reasons. And if it WAS bum...then Uranus seemed like the planet better suited for association, not Saturn. He was trying not to boyishly giggle. Trying. Sort of. |
Sinead's lips curled up into a little smile as Professor Grevyson praised her remark. She was all over this Arithmancy stuff. Music... she could totally work that one out as well. She'd taken piano lessons for a few years before coming to Hogwarts, at her mother's insistence. Although she'd never been a huge fan because it just felt so... mundane and muggle-y. Any delusions that she was ahead of the curve in Arithmancy, though, vanished as soon as Professor Grevyson began addressing the class at large. Sinead's eyes practically popped out of her head at the onslaught of information and she nearly snapped her quill in her haste to copy everything down. Pity they couldn't have desks in the one class where she actually needed to do a lot of writing... Um. How do they meditate? How was she supposed to know? Whether or not she did, though, she was going to offer an answer, because most of her other classmates didn't seem to be saying anything sensible. "You use the bowls, to make music," she suggested. "And then concentrate just on what you're doing." Okay, maybe it was a bit vague, but the best she could do- and concentrating hard enough was the answer to pretty much everything, she thought, whether you were trying to get a spell down correctly or just read or whatever. |
Once all of the answers were given, the professor began to get to the meat of the lesson. The seventh year picked up her clipboard and quill. As the professor started speaking, Janelle began to write and write and write. She was trying hard to keep up with all of the information that was being presented. It-was-a-lot. Janelle was definitely going to have to study her notes once she got back to the dorm. Janelle was trying to process everything as she wrote. Chakras, eight, triangles, balance........ At some point she was writing the words, but her brain was on information overload. As her hands began to cramp, they arrived at a question. Down went the quill and Janelle began to stretch her fingers. She listened to the question and tried to come up with a coherent answer. Finally, Janelle raised her hand and took a wild guess. "Would there be any chanting involved? Maybe there could be certain words that you could repeat for each chakra." On second thought, seeing as how this was Arithmancy class, she changed her mind. "Or.......maybe you would focus on a certain number as you meditate." Or maybe that was not even close to the right answer, but she gave it a shot. |
Music? The bowls were for music? Carlton stretched a little so that he could see them more clearly. Those were the strangest instruments he'd ever seen. They looked much more like cereal bowls than anything that could produce music, but then again. This was Hogwarts. So Carlton had been completely wrong with the bowls. But he had gotten a smile from Professor Greyvson so he considered it a bit of a victory after all. When the professor moved on to what seemed to be the main part of the lesson, she completely lost Carlton. He tried to scribble down notes at first but quickly realized he didn't know how to take notes of something he couldn't spell, pronounce or understand. He barely understood the question. They were balancing stuff now? Carlton could balance his pen on his finger if he concentrated hard enough. He demonstrated that little project for a few minutes. He wondered if he was supposed to announce that he DID NOT UNDERSTAND A WORD, or if he should just sit silent. He chose to go with the second option and looked down at his notes. SPOILER!!: Notes Carlton glanced around him at the other students, hoping Professor Greyvson wouldn't read his notes. And that he wasn't the only one lost. |
............... Oh goodness. Forget meditation, Rooney had actually fallen asleep during the lengthy talking that the Professor was doing. Cheek pressed hard into his palm, the Ravenclaw was quiet in his slumber, no snoring or anything. Just sleeping. Zzzzzzzzzzz. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. |
SCREAMS! She was literally screaming inside of her head from frustration. Chakra’s? NO. WAY! This lesson was really the same as Divination and she HATED both! Looking frustrated she folded her arms and she wondered WHY she even had HOPED for this lesson to be a normal one… Well, nobody could say that she didn’t had tried to go here without even trying… Sighing out loud she just closed her eyes and listened to what the professor was saying but… It became really hard to take this lesson serious because… Chakra’s? Reaaaaly? |
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT. Etta sat back, trying so hard to understand what the professor was saying but it was all just going way over her heard. She wasn't stupid so why could she not get any of it?! AH. Gosh. She looked down at her notebook, staring at the few words she had managed to write down. She turned to look at her fellow classmates and realised that she wasn't the only one looking/feeling blank. Okay, good. That was a relief. She slowly raised a hand, trying to guess an answer anyway. "Uh.. to meditate with calmness and concentration?" Yes? No? Heh. |
For just a moment, Olivia felt her cheeks flush with the joy of having been able to properly contribute in a lesson again. It wasn't so much about gaining prestige among her peers...as it was in elevating her own personal confidence. So, being personally thanked by Professor Greyvson for recognizing the bowls for what they were...felt really nice. "My mother uses them to soothe her mind.... I think. She's never been quite clear on that." Liv supposed they were calming... ... ........... And her mind was drifting. While Olivia could appreciate all this information, long-winded explanations usually killed her focus. It was just a lot at once, you know? The Gryffindor really could have benefited from all this coming in intervals.... but that was just her. Perhaps not everyone shared her concentration issues. She obviously couldn't pretend to know everyone's life. The only noticeable sign of her displaced attention was the glazed over look in her eyes... Otherwise, she had her eyes forward (but staring off into space). It wasn't a smart idea to let her mind wander too much... but... Hmm? What? Blinking herself back into the present moment... the blonde tilted her head up at their professor; following in the woman's example with the relaxed body poses. How did this help with anything? She could only guess, as this wasn't really her area of expertise. Her mother's, yes, but not hers own. "Because it puts not only your mind into a relaxed state, but also your body. I guess being completely at ease helps with the flow of energy in one's person." Which included one's senses, right? Couldn't you hear better when your mind wasn't overrun by errant thoughts or tensed up from conflict? Wasn't touch more... profound when the body and mind were as one? Olivia's gaze unwillingly sought out Rooney... Was he sleeping? |
Hmmmm..... Noelle sat cross legged on the pillow and pulled out the parchment paper. She started jotting down notes after notes. Holy Merlin that was a lot of notes and her quill was going a mile a minute. She needed one of those quills that just jotted down everything for you. She didn't know why she hadn't invested in one already. She'd have to read over these notes later. Maybe Noah would be able to help her because right now, her head was spinning with all the amount of information that was given. "Well you said there were numbers to the steps. Do you just follow the numbers down?" Clearly, Noelle didn't have any idea if that was correct or not. |
Wait. What? Daisy sat there dumbfounded by all those woooords. Sooo maaanyyy woooords. She had never been good at Arithmancy and she had once wished it had fewer words but - it had too many words now!! Professor Greyvson was talking an awful lot about balance and Chakras and what not but there was no balance at all in this subject. It was either too many numbers or too many words. She looked over at Kat and shook her head in confusion. Did the Hufflepuff understand what was going on? Did anyone understand? Clearly some students did because there were answers going Professor Greyvson's way but Daisy was lost. Well and truly lost. If it wasn't for the fact that she apparently could play with Yeti later she would have walked out. Yup. She was definitely not passing her Arithmancy OWL. |
Kane tried to pay attention to the stuff the professor was talking about, he REALLY did...but he just couldn't keep up! This was why he hated this class. There was just SO MUCH to pay attention to! Chakras? The more Greysvon said that word, the less sense it made to him. He didn't even bother to take notes because it just went wayyyy over his head. He raised his hand to try and at least take a STAB at the question. "Um, well if you have too much in one...chakra, you could...mediate and try and get rid of some of that energy through the...nadis?" he said, not entirely sure of anything he was really saying. |
This was so ridiculous! This wasn't even arithmancy. Where were the figures, why were they not adding numbers yet? This professor was a fraud. It was obvious she couldn't do math or she would have started it by now. Natalia was fuming sitting on the stupid floor with the cushion. She wanted a desk, she wanted parchment, and she wanted to add numbers together. This was her subject. This was what she was good at, but this one, this crazy person was making them talk about a supposable form of Arthimancy that dealt with something that really could not be good for the younger students. What was she even on about, did she really want them to do yoga? "Professor, how is this Arithmancy. Arithmancy is called Arithmancy because it's close to Arithmetic, isn't it? So does this just start with this terminology but there will be numbers to add or subtract to get the true answers like most of Arithmancy?" She really was starting to think about faking sick to leave. Though telling the woman she was off her rocker and leaving would feel nice, but she knew as Head Girl she had to be more mature than that, so stomach issues were probably the way to go. She could go to the library and study true Arithmancy there. |
Kane was literally dying here. He had no idea what the professor was talking about, and he was pretty sure he hadn't followed any of it. He was going to fail Arithmancy, and what made it worse was that his younger brother seemed to have a response. Duuuuuuuuude. Brent scratched his head in confusion while looking at the pictures on the board. Uhhh... "What about just clearing your mind and being at peace with whatever's going on?" he suggested, raising his hand. That's about all he could come up with. He had no idea what this nadis stuff was Kane was on about. Was some dude napping across the room? ... |
|
This was just stupid and she was having a hard time sitting there any longer. When the professor started talking about the Hindu part of it Nat wanted to speak up and say yeah, something that should not be taught in this classroom. She could care less if the woman was giving her a look. She really didn't think she trusted the lady. Right now she was questioning if she was a real Arithmancy Professor. What would the Headmistress think if she knew what the Professor was really teaching in this class today? Her eyes moved to the board when there was actually some numbers they could add. Her fingers twitched wanting to do them, but her complete annoyance over this lesson was getting in the way. "Yes Professor, May I be excused to the loo?" She was over it, she'd study in the library. |
Slate honestly dozed off. He wasn't sure what was happening. Something about having an aligned spinal column he was guessing. Which... he guessed was important. His mum did used to yell at him about his posture... But now math was happening. Math was something he knew how to do. Quote:
