Phew!

Azura sagged a little in relief as Professor Vance said that she wouldn't have to let a snake crawl all over her. Yeah that could be bad! She turned her attention back to the Professor as she explained what they were going to do..

She could handle letting her slug crawl around in her skin and she peered down at her jar for a moment... she tilted her head as she looked at her blue slug and smiled at it. "I'm going to call you Sapphire. " She said softly as she stared to roll up her sleeve. "We actually have some things in common do you know that?" Azura asked Sapphire as she finished rolling up her sleeve.

She got out her textbook, a piece of parchment and her sapphire blue quill..

There everything was ready..

"You see Sapphire, you are blue and your name means blue and so does mine. " She said with a grin as she gently picked up her jar and slowly started to tip it so Sapphire would crawl out..the less she had to handle the poor thing the better. Not because she didn't want too.. but she didn't want to traumatize the poor thing..

"All right, once you get on out here I have a few questions for you. " She said as she patiently waited for Sapphire to crawl out onto her hand.

So, they were going to let slugs crawl on them? Okay??? Yeah, he had forgotten that divination class is weird, really really weird. None the less, Jonas shrugged and took the little slug guy out of his jar and placed it on his arm. Alright slug, what do you plan to tell me now?

Olly had been quite worried about the slugs that Peeves was carelessly pelting at students. They were going to get hurt! He made sure his own slug was properly protected and shielded from Peeves. And he did his best to scoop up any others that seemed to be in danger. Whenever any landed on or near him Olly herded them into a little huddle in front of him, and as a result he now had about six on his desk. "Uh Professor, should we put back these slugs that Peeves took from the tank and threw?" If anyone else was opposed to touching the slugs, he would be happy to gather them up and make sure they were returned safely to their homes.

Well he hoped no one was opposed to touching the slugs, not with what they were doing next. Olly was fine with letting a slug crawl around on his arm. He gently lifted Flash out of his glass home and set him on his left arm. Do your thing, Flash. Except he didn't do anything. The slug just sat there, unmoving. Well that wasn't very exciting.

Miranda's jaw dropped when she found out they'd actually have to touch the slimy little buggers afterall... ' Oh Joy!'

Obviously her inner thought was the exact opposite , but if the class required it.. Which it unfortunately did... She would of course oblige and do what was asked of her... Even if she thought this class was a bit strange..

So, she slowly and grudgingly took out her little slug companion or whatever the professor had called the tiny shell dwellerand placed it on her forearm.... Eewww..this was so grubby feeling...

Thank Merlin that was over. Patient as the Hufflepuff was, these hissy fits and putting lives in danger was beyond absurd as far as Paige was concerned.

Returning to her seat with both her creature companions - one slug and one snail - Paige listened to Professor Vance's instructions and furrowed her brow slightly. While she did not imagine she would get an accurate reading on herself given her lack of Inner Eye connection when it came to using living creatures as a divining medium...there was a slightly bigger problem in that Paige did not know what to ask. Furthermore, any pressing issues she had that she wanted to know answers to...she wanted to experience them first hand and in that moment. Not like this.

Sighing, Paige looked at her palm where the two gastropods sat...completely still.

Well...at least that was accurate?

There was an actual laugh that came from her lips. The professor was on some sort of goofy potion if she thought Natalia was going to actually be putting one of those on her arm. More NOPES were happening and she wasn't going to even be quiet about that. Why were they doing this, there is no way you could get a reading from something like this.

"Are these things even clean? I mean can't you get a disease from slugs or snails." She couldn't deal with this. Seeing Paige Nat moved a bit closer. "Hey maybe I can work with you." Or you know read your snail on you and not touch mine at all.

Yes?

Please?

((Okay so let's see how this goes))
Jonas made a face that was saying that this felt weird as the slug crawled on him. Not really paying attention to it, he looked at the notes...okay so this means that.

Ok so looks like Jabba was just gonna do a little catwalk on his arm, no biggie. And he was clearly thankful to the Professor that there wont be a danger of him turning Jabba into escargot, because nothing spells tragic more than accidentally eating your pet and enjoying it.

But before he can take him out of the jar, Peeves decided to make it rain slugs and snails. His inner baseball player kicked in, trying to catch the poor little slimeballs before they go splat. He too joined the chorus of cacophony against Peeve's prank, and was just relieved when the prankster was finally on his way.

But right time for the Jabba-walkey. He listened to the Professor give her instructions then folded up the sleeve from his arm. "Ok time for your walk Jabba..." he crooned at that fat slug as he picked it out of its jar and lay it on his forearm. Now all he had to do was watch and wait....

Paige just continued to stare at her two stationary companions, watching their way their little antena eyes wiggled slowly back and forth. "Only if you intend on eating them raw," Paige replied nonchalantly to Nat, only really half hearing her. The imagery and thought probably would not help her friend cope with the whole situation...and she would feel bad about that in a moment or two...but she was still trying to think up something to ask so as to perhaps provoke some sort of movement.

They seemed rather content though...so...again...accurate?

"Hmmmm?" she murmured, coming out of her moderate trance-like state. "Oh sure. Of course." She eyed Nat's slug. "You...want to add him to the party?"

Miranda was thoroughly disgusted by the feeling of her slimy companion for the lesson on her skin... The whole thing positively repulsive...Still it was part of the lesson and she needed to make grade or her summer would suck eternity....

So , she sat there and watched for what seemed forever only to see the slug stay completely still....UGH!...What even! Why wasn't the darn thing moving?!... what a bloody waste of her time.. Having to sit with a stubborn slug... She poked it with the end of her wand.. It only looked her and made a tiny hissing sound...

Holy Merlin's monkey!.. The Tiny shell dweller had actually hissed at her for being poked. Randa giggled to herself knowing full well she could kill the ugly thing quicker than a blink if she wanted to...

Harvey took the slug out of his mouth, feeling rather silly. He had just wanted to protect it, after all.

Never mind that. Hopefully in all the chaos people hadn't noticed. Deciding that pretending everything was perfectly normal was the best way to proceed, Harvey placed the slug on the table, rolled up his sleeve, and then gently lifted the slug into the palm of his left arm.

It just sat there and did nothing.

Harvey glanced back the board at the interpretations, but "no movement" was not one of them.

Maybe it was as traumatised as he was from their recent ordeal? Harvey couldn't imagine slugs being any more comfortable with being placed in people's mouths as people were in having them there.

He decided to give the slug a moment or two to recover. Because it would recover. He was not going to end up being the one student whose slug refused to move. What would that mean - that he'd be a permanent first year? Forever?

While he did love being in first year, he was rather looking forward to growing up and being able to do whatever he wanted.

The slug was going to move.

Azura waited as Sapphire slowly made its way out onto her hand and she smiled.. "Good little slug.. now I have a few questions to ask you okay?" She said as she sat the jaw down and raised her hand so that she and Sapphire were eye level..

"I'm not exactly sure how this is going to work.. but we will try it..you ready? " Azura eyed the slug as it maybe looked st her? Eek! It was kinda cute! And she didn't mind the feeling of it on her hand at all. It was no worse than Steve, her tarantula.. which was at home with her mother due to the fact that her boyfriend was terrified of them..

Anyways..

"All right..Sapph, first question.. am I going to get into any of the music schools I auditioned for?"

......

Nothing? Sapphire wasn't moving and Azura sighed softly.. Yeah she was afraid of change and making a choice about which one to go to and when.. but that was only after she got in!

Was she going to get in? That's what she needed to know!

Fwoopers..

"And stay away you creep!" Kitty shouted angrily after Peeves as he retreated. Good riddance! Weren't Peeves and Miffy supposed to behave themselves now that they got their wedding wish??? Was that really so hard for them, Kitty thought angrily to herself as he returned to her seat. At least Miffy hadn't joined in, but maybe that was because she was causing trouble elsewhere. Ugh!

But now it was time to focus back on the lesson. Kitty felt better when she heard that Professor Vance wouldn't let slugs into her mouth either, that made her feel less bad for her initial outburst of disgust.

"Okay...I guess I could let it crawl on my hand," Kitty said very reluctantly as she regarded her blue, unnamed slug. How bad could it be, she argued with herself as she slowly uncapped the jar. "I name you 'Sluggyy' with two y's since I don't know if you're a boy or a girl," Kitty said out loud.

Uggg…

Peeves was really on everyone’s list this year. Cassie’s list for sure. Especially now that he was tossing slugs and snails around and had just barely missed getting her in the eye with one. She had just happened to shift at the right time, having it land on the table before her with just a couple drops on her uniform and notes and catching it before it could move on them further. That was a close call. The Ravenclaw let Professor Lance deal with the poltergeist as she tried to clean up so her parchment wasn’t too wrecked.

Right…now back to the class. And the activity it seemed.

Also turned out Cass was going to see firsthand if she had an aversion to slugs trailing along her skin. “You aren’t going to be too bad…right?” the third year asked her originally buddy rhetorically. She copied the new list into her rescued notes before setting her quill aside and resting her left arm out in front of her one the table as she prepared herself. A deep breath…a slug picked up carefully between two fingers on her right hand and a mental countdown.

Three…two…one…plop.

“It’s up to you now, buddy.”

"Alright little guy, what do you want to tell me today? I'm only a third year but I'm already worried about my owl's. Could you help me in that? He looked at the slug. It wasn't moving at all...huh...what could that mean? Jonas just shrugged and wondered if the slug needed a bit of time to get going. He poked at it.
"C'mon. Can you at least do something?" Jonas asked.

So with Jabba on his arm, the Gryffindor Ace peered closely and waited to see what the slug would do. Would he have a good future? Or one filled with peril? Or....

.... or one thats apparently gonna go back to the future on him.

.... because Jabba was moving BACKWARDS.

"Whu?.... Jabba--" Tenacius sat upright when the slug started to do the moonwalk back up his arm, and is actually looking like it was trying to get under his sleeve. "Hey boy what are you doing?" he mumbled as he tried to nudge the slug back the other way. For some reason it just really liked to stay nuzzled in his sleeve. But why??

"Come on Jabba move this way. This way...." Should he coax it with something to get it to move the other way of his arm? Worth a shot because Jabba doesnt seem like it was parting ways with his sleeve- turned slug blanket anytime soon...

And still nothing..

Sapphire was just sitting there wiggling its little antennae at Azura and not moving!

*sigh*

"All right, maybe that question was a little hard for you? Yeah.. okay well how about this one.." Azura took a breath as she raised the slug on her hand and peered at it carefully. Hopefully this question would get some movement out of the little creature.

"Right Sapph, you listening? Okay. Will Chris and my's future be okay? Azura asked the little slug as she used her other hand to push some of her dark hair behind her ears, the promise ring her boyfriend had given her was glinting on her finger at the movement.

A smile spread its way across Azura's mouth as the slug started to move in a straight line! Hooray!! At least the animal wasn't asleep! And things were going to go well for her and Chris.

Now that Sapphire was moving and tickling her arm a bit.. Az decided to try her first question again..

"So, will I get into any Music schools?"

She was cringing and her nose was all crinkled with the thought of eating them raw. This was just not getting any better. She had grabbed her wand and cleaned the slime off her robe so that her hair was safe. Now if only she would have remembered to grab a hair tie. Sticking it behind her ears and pushing it off her shoulders she looked at the creatures on the desk.

"Oh.. umm I guess so" Reaching for her jar she lifted it upside down so that the snail came tumbling out on the desk. []b "Oh.. oops, it's okay right?" She glanced at it as it slowly moved around. Yeah it was fine she figured at least. Now they were suppose to put them on their arm, which wasn't happening her, but if Paige did she could just write down what it did there.

"What if we just watched the way it slimed the desk?" That would work now wouldn't it. "Move please" She was looking directly at her confused looking snail, but it just seemed to be staring confused and not wanting to slime anything at the moment.

Alright so the slug was being stubborn he guessed. Jonas frowned.
"This is a waste of time. I don't believe in this..." he muttered. "Did Peeves scare you that badly?" he asked.
Jonas felt like an idiot talking to this slug like he was. He frowned. What kind of change was he scared of? He didn't know he guessed but...still...

So... Miranda had on her arm a hissing slug... Fantasatic!.. Only she didn't think it was so groovy.. In fact it made this ordeal all the more unenjoyable.. Not that having a slug on your arm should be enjoyable or anything, though... there were strange folks out in the world and it wouldn't all together be surprising to see someone with one on them , but.... Sidetracked with though again... she shook the thoughts from her head and stared at the yucky thing and tried to will it mentally to move.... No dice.. Figures and with a sigh she looked to the board where the slim line findings were...

UGH! Afraid of change?!.. Whatever! she thought as she read the list. So, sure she was stubborn and stuck in her ways, but afraid of change?.. She thought for a moment and realised the stupid little slug was right... She was afraid of change.. She never did like it.. It was the one thing that scared her most... The unknown...

"It's really not so bad..." Kitty whimpered quietly as her slug slowly, slowly climbed into her open palm. "It's not so bad...it's not so bad..." Its slimy foot felt very bizarre sliding over her skin. She imagined it using its foot to suck the blood right out of her hand.

Stop it Kitty!

She mentally kicked herself and closed her eyes as she felt it move further on into her hand. In her grossed out state she couldn't tell if it was moving in a straight line or zig zagging.

Or maybe it was depositing alien eggs inside her hand...

Olly just stared at his slug. It was sitting right on his wrist, still unmoving. He kept staring at it for quite a while. It felt like a really long time but was probably less than thirty seconds. Why was nothing happening? Maybe he needed a second opinion. With a frown Olly picked up one of the other slugs that he'd rescued and put that one on his arm as well, closer to his elbow. That one didn't move either. But two different slugs couldn't be wrong, right? Olly looked up at the board to see what an unmoving slug meant. Apparently he was afraid of change of making a choice. Was he? He didn't think he was. What kind of choice was he making?

....

........

And just like that.. the slug stopped!

What in the Blazing Fwoopers!!

Azura stared at Sapphire as the creature stopped dead in the middle of its slimy tracks and just sat there happily wiggling its antennae at her. Ughhhh..

"All right then.. don't answer me! Yeah I'm scared of change and of which one to go to.. but I have to know if I'll get in first!" Azura sighed softly as she put her hand back down to the jar and gently urged the bright blue slug to get back in there.. she would take it back to the case as soon as she could..

She wiped her hand off on her robes and sighed as she sat back down at her table and picked up her quill..

SPOILER!!: Az's notes

I asked my slug two questions!

One if I would get into music schools and it's stayed stock still.. so I guess I'm conflicted? I just wanted to know if I would get in or not..

And then I asked about me and ny boyfriend.. and it trailed up my arm in a happy straight line.. so that means good things.

There..

Cassandra waited and watched, watched and waited. Slugs or snails for that matter did not exactly move all that fast. Plus, she suspected, moving hers around from place to place, likely confused them in some way so there was a delay in their reaction. Not to mention if the universe had to contact one to let it know exactly which way it was supposed to move when it finally did.

Oh look…it was moving.

Since she hadn’t even tried asking a question on the first shot, the third year year was simply observing rough direction. Since it hadn’t actually stayed still, the third prediction was out. As she watched her slug companion, Cass noticed it would appear to go in one direction and then another and eventually back to around the first direction. The Ravenclaw frowned as she compared it to the possible meanings.

Well she was definitely confused about what she was conflicted about.

So maybe it did work…somewhat.

Olly just really wanted his slug to move. He kind of hoped it would be his original slug, the one he'd named Flash. The other one was still unmoving on his arm, and he still thinking of a name. It was hard because he was also thinking about other things. Maybe if he asked a question they would start to move to give him some sort of answer. But what kind of question should he ask? Olly didn't really have any pressing matters at hand that he needed answered by slugs. Maybe he should just start talking about something and they might move.

"It's getting pretty close to the end of the term," he said conversationally to the slugs. Neither was moving yet. Was that the sort of change he was afraid of? He didn't think he was afraid of it. He liked going home at the end of the year because it meant he got to see his family. Maybe the change was more related to starting a new year. "I'll be a fifth year next year and that means OWLs." He sighed, as if the slugs could share his pain. He paused for just a moment, and this time something actually did happen. Flash began to slowly move forward down his arm. The slug moved very slowly and Olly got bored watching. He looked up at the board, hoping he could start interpreting before Flash was done moving.

His movement definitely had not been in a straight line. He'd sort of explored Olly's arm from one end to the other and back. So it was more of the zig zag line. That meant... confusing or a bump of trouble ahead. That did not sound so good.
