Arithmancy/DADA Joint Lesson: Curse Breaking Love was in the air as February arrived in the castle. A rare lull in the weather created a peaceful atmosphere for romantic strolls on the grounds. However, today's lesson would be about the opposite of happy romance and Tiara hoped the students brought their wits and thinking caps. She had arrived in her classroom even earlier than her normal early. She spent several minutes conjuring up more desks for the expected influx of students. Arithmancy was an elective; DADA was not. Then, in the cleared area near her own desk, she placed a nondescript stool topped by a nondescript box. A few movements of her wand later, she smiled in satisfaction. Once the layout was complete to her satisfaction, there was nothing to it but to wait for Hirsch. Tiara positioned herself near the warm fire Tinka had been so kind as to start. And then she waited in eager anticipation. This was going to be a great lesson. class progression: - How would you try and break open a cursed box? |
In all honesty, Hirsch wasn't sure what to make of this particular season. 'Love' was in the air, so to speak, along with a heavy level of cheesiness, and the last thing he wanted was to be sitting here talking about love and relationships for an hour or so. Especially with his students. So, the man was all too happy when the topic of this joint lesson had turned to something that was anything but love. Thank you, Tiara. Speaking of Tiara, the Defence Professor had headed into the classroom with a box of items, just in time to see the woman stepping back from the box she had. "Hello, Tiara. I see you've got things sorted?" he said, nodding at the box that'd been set up. More than anything else, it looked like a box on display, which made the man smirk ever so slightly. "The students are going to like this, I bet." As for his own box, he set that down on Tiara's desk, silently hoping she didn't mind. It was for the lesson, after all. Was there anything else? No? Casting a quick glance at his watch, the man stood back and resumed his signature pose of crossing his feet at his ankles and looking, well, cool. They should be trickling in any..... time......... now....... |
Echo was really nervous for this class, she couldn't put her finger on it. She liked both of these classes but something in her stomach wasn't right. Shrugging off the feeling Echo entered the classroom, smiling at both professors. "Hello Professors" keep the smile don't let them know that you are nervous. Making her way to an open desk she sat down and started to pick at her robes. |
Azura walked into the classroom with a smile on her face, in fact the girl looked brighter and happier then she had all year. What made her purple eyes sparkle? Was it love? Or maybe a seed of hope had been planted into her heart about the fate of her mother. Whatever it was. She seemed more like her old self. "Hello Professor Tanner, Professor Hirsch! " The teen called as she made her way into the classroom. "How are you? " She asked as she settled into her desk. |
Curse breaking. Esme wasn't so sure what to think of this. Wasn't that supposed to be difficult? Meeeh. What if she didn't do a good job of it? Even though she was confident in her abilities there was a little bit of self-doubt going on. Not like she was arrogant or anything; she knew very well what the limits of her abilities were and she was perfectly fine with it. Hopefully this lesson would be fun. "Hello, Professors," she said with a small smile. She waved at both Echo and Azura and took a seat. She was ready to go. |
This was going to be a long class. Juno was terrible at Arithmancy but she loved DADA so she knew she had to come to this class. "Hello, Professors." She said with a small nervous smile. She was really worried that she would do poorly in this class. Joint classes were always harder for her than the normal one subject classes. She smiled and waved at Echo and Azura before heading over to a seat near her sister. Hopefully they could help each other. |
This was the best possible scenario. While Jaemin didn't hate Arithmancy, he certainly didn't feel that he excelled at it - it required him to just accept that some things meant things, without explaining why, and he was not good at that. He needed to know why things meant the things they meant. Arithmancy and Divination did not offer him explanations. But. BUT. Defense Against The Dark Arts offered him things that were solid and concrete. Its presence meant that maybe there was stuff in Arithmancy that was concrete, and would be workable for him. So the small white-blond haired today boy hurried into the class room, eyes first catching the Arithmancy professor... and then Hirsch. He still found it extremely hard to look at Hirsch and not feel embarrassed, but... he was recovering, slowly. It had been months, after all... months. Sigh. The boy gave both professors a bright smile and a wave before getting himself a desk right up in the front and center. Because 4'5" was still too short to see from further back, thank you very much. |
Fiyero was really looking forward to this lesson. Curse breaking sounded interesting! He just hoped he wouldn't be as terrible at it as he was at Arithmancy... He walked into the Arithmancy classroom, giving both of the professors a friendly wave. "Hello, Professor Hirsch and Professor Tanner," he greeted them with a small smile. He took a seat toward the middle of the room, close enough to see what was going on but not close enough to look like a teacher's pet. After arranging his supplies, he looked attentively back at the professors, awaiting the start of class. Bring it on, curse breaking! |
Hadley Denaker peeked around the corner. Good. Sir Knight was in the room already. She drew her wand. Practiced making a circle like she was targeting something. Unboxed a particular memory and leapt into the classroom. "Expecto Patronum!" Not even a flash of silver greeted them. "Dang it! I thought I had it that time." Yep, Sir Knight, she was still practicing. Hadley curtsied to Professor Hirsch, "Sir Knight." Then turned to Professor Tanner and gave her a wave. "Hi, Professor." With that she selected a seat at random and made her way to it, giving waves to Jaemin, Echo, Azura, and...er...which one was Esme? She couldn't tell really so both twins got a wave. And with that, the red headed teen spun into her seat and started pulling out her quill and ink and Arithmancy parchment that was more filled with ink doodles than math. She was in a gret mood today for whatever reason. Not gonna question it. |
Arithmancy happened to be one of the lessons Daxton disliked the least, to the point that he had started to form a mild obsession in the uses of numbers. As a matter of fact, the subject of Defence Against the Dark Arts was a huge interest of his too, though he tended to dislike the lessons themselves. Because of him. Hirsch. Daxton was dubious about this joint lesson. Arithmancy usually meant no spellwork, whereas Defence Against the Dark Arts more often than not focused solely on magic. The former subject was undoubtedly going to be ruined by the presence of the latter, despite the fact that, in theory, he liked both. Barefoot and without his outer robes, as he invariably was, Daxton entered the Arithmancy classroom. A moment's glance told him that Hirsch was already here, with Tanner, a revelation that earned nothing less than the sourest, most suspicious glare that Daxton could muster, right in the direction of the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Tanner escaped any such treatment. Without a word, predictably enough, Daxton took the seat nearest the door for quick and easy access to the exit, and waited... ... and tried not to think about how it was seeming more and more likely that he might soon have to approach Hirsch in the pursuit of information. |
February was a wonderful month. Her birthday was this month, AND so was Valentine's Day. And Bast's birthday was this month too. Basically, February was the best month of the year. So Rula was in quite a good mood when she entered the Arithmancy and DADA lesson. It being a lesson with Handsome Hirsch might have also helped her good mood too. "Hi, Professors!" She greeted them with a smile. The boxes got a brief glance before she went and slipped into a random empty seat. |
How cool was this? How often did one get to cursebreak in school? Kaycee was actually kind of excited for the lesson. "Hello Professors." she greeted with a grin. Were they ready? She was ready. She took her seat and waited for the class to begin. |
As far as Brooklyn was concerned, February was just another month. And that had nothing to do with certain situations that were still frustrating her. She’d just never understood why people felt the need to be all lovey-dovey in the month of February in the first place. It just seemed stupid, and she didn’t do stupid. She’d leave that for everyone else. Besides, if any class should be free of that, it should be DADA, AND Arithmancy. She figured neither subject would be very apt to devolve into sappiness, and that was what had gotten her to walk up to the Arithmancy classroom. Besides, cursebreaking seemed more interesting than the confusing analysis and everything else that Arithmancy usually entailed. Plus, even if it didn’t, she could just stick with Professor Hirsch and hope that he’d be more logical. Or something along those lines. Maybe they could learn more defense stuff. It was those thoughts that were in her mind as she’d entered the classroom. “Hello Professor Hirsch. Professor Tanner,” she said, giving them both a nod as she made her way to a seat. So far there didn’t seem to be many people there yet who entirely annoyed her, which meant no one she was trying to avoid. It was promising, to say the least. |
Hey, Ameh! Okay, so.....Liv wasn't a fan of numbers. They mostly hurt her brain and made her eyes cross unpleasantly, BUT seeing as this lesson was combined with her ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SUBJECT (DADA, Prince Erik, IMPORTANT SQUEEING), the blonde was compelled to attend. COMPELLED, I tell you! Getting her princess on, smol blonde sashayed into the classroom, looking around at once for Prince Erik. EEEEEP. AND THE RUMORS WERE TRUE! There he was....looking so casually cool and handsome. Her mum had told her to use adjectives like "handsome" instead of "hot" because "hot" wasn't as substantial, or something. Apparently it was more mature to be "handsome", so...... AH! SONG [Ameh]! Hai, tea buddy! Taking a seat next to the boy with the white blonde hair, Olivia BEAMED. "We match today. You don't mind if I sit with you, do you?"....because she was probably going to, anyway. Just so he understood his situation. F r i e n d s i e s! ALSO. #Dramatics! "HAI, professors. You both look well! Especially you, Prince Erik." Cue some pretty eyelash batting. You know, since she'd thought to wear eye makeup today and her lashes felt really silky and long. It was fun to flutter them when they were mascara'd. |
There was a box. There was a box on a stool. There was a box on a stool and Charlotte Kettleburn was twitching with her hands carefully behind her back. There was something about unlabeled and mysterious boxes and trunks and crates and anything really, which her Gryffindor self just couldn't resist. Curiously, she crept closer and eyeballed it, her initial excitement for a curse-breaking class was completely forgotten because WHAT WAS IN THE BOOOOX!!!!???! |
A joint lesson between Aritmancy, a class she did not took so she hoped she didn’t fail too much. And Defence class. Which she obviously knew since that was a mandatory one. Rebecca was curious to find out what this lesson would be about so she left the dormitory a little bit early to find her way to the arithmancy classroom. Getting lost at least 4 times , probably more but she was too stubborn to tell the real number , the Gryffindor found a classroom door open and she peeked inside. A woman was standing near the fire. Someone she had seen while eating at the Great Hall but had never spoken too. She knew she was in the right place though because she soon saw Professor Hirsch and she beamed at him. “Hi professor Hirsch!” she waved at him and once again wondered how anyone could look so cool just standing there. She had to try it sometimes. “Hi Professor” …something…. She did not know her name. “I’m Rebecca Meadows, but everyone calls me Bec so I guess you can choose. No wait, Professors usually call me Miss Meadows which I guess is a rule here but anyways, I’m a first year and I don’t take your class so I’m sorry if I don’t get any of it” Clearing her throat because she knew she was rambling, the Gryffindor pretended to be cool And without another word , the not cool Gryffindor found a seat to sit next to Fiyero without asking him if it was okay. Cause she was cool like that. |
Niomi hasn't been to a joint Arithmancy and DADA class before. This should be interesting. When arriving at the area Niomi said, "Hi Professors!" She was extremely happy today, and for no reason. With a happy Niomi, this class lesson should go good. She went to take a seat but before she did she saw boxes. WHAT WAS INSIDE?! Niomi was extra suspicious now. She was ready to start class this second. |
When noticing the joint lesson between Arithmancy and DADA one could not help but wonder how that would work out. She had gotten an 'A' on her OWL in Arithmancy last term, it was a lesson she had just recently dropped as well. Did she had to have it combined with one of the lessons she really enjoyed? If she failed the days activities it could only be blamed on one thing. Numbers and the simple fact that she couldn't get things right when it came to them. Pushing her long brunette hair back behind her ears Hadleigh entered the room. "Hello Professors," she greeted with a light smile her eyes falling upon both Professors at the front of the room. Another quick glance around had the girl quickly selecting an empty seat somewhere nearer to the center of the room. |
Arithmancy and Defense. Not exactly the kind of subjects that would typically hold a joint class. But the board did say cursebreaking and Tenacius got himself on his cruiser and zoooomed to class. By the time he was there though there's quite a number of students already present. Seems like he's not the only excited one for this lesson "'Elo Professor Tanner, Professor Hirsch!" the Curly Top greeted them brightly. He plopped himself next to Haddie, gave her his usual cheesy grin and propped his feet under the chair in front of him. This is gonna be an interesting class to say the least. |
His two favourite subjects in one? Heck yes! Zeke was too thrilled for this lesson to get under way, like, it was super promising. Sporting a wide grin the sixth year entered the class offering both Professor's a polite nod of the head and a "Hello Professor Tanner, Professor Hirsch." He was so glad to see you both, yes yes. Taking a seat, Zeke took out his things and waited for the lesson to begin, his eyes occasionally peaking toward the box. |
All the replies ever Text Cut: Hirschy Bar Ah, there was the man of the hour! "Yes indeed, the main exhibit is ready to go. I see you have the other items. I think that is everything." She noted his wry smile and couldn't help but return it. "Definitely. They always did when I was a student, and I see no reason for that to change. This is a fascinating topic!" And just plain fun, which helped a great deal. Holding back a laugh at the man's pose - for there was no other word for it - she elected to merely stand as usual and wait for the inevitable rush of students. Text Cut: Echo And there was the first one! "Hello, Miss Duchannes. Any seat you would like," she said, indicating the completely empty room. Text Cut: Azura Echo was closely followed by a young Ravenclaw. "Welcome, Miss Kennedy. I am just splendid today, thank you for asking." And by the look in Azura's eyes, so was she. Tiara never inquired so close to Valentine's Day as a rule. Text Cut: Esme In came the first badger. "Hello, Miss Darcy," she said while returning the girl's smile. Was the sister right behind? Text Cut: Juno Tiara could tell that Juno was nervous as soon as he walked through the door."Welcome, Miss Darcy. Today will be a fun lesson," she said, hoping to put the girl a bit more at ease. Text Cut: Fiyero She almost missed Fiyero's greeting because she was busy returning Mister Song's wave. "Hello, Mister Jones," she said belatedly as the boy was already past her. Oh well. Text Cut: Hadley Well, that was quite the entrance! Obviously it was for Hirsch's benefit, because Hadley had never done anything like that in Arithmancy before. "Hello, Miss Denaker," she said, still a bit surprised at the display. Text Cut: Daxton Tiara wasn't surprised to not be greeted by Daxton. That was par for the course. But she was very much surprised by the reception that Hirsch received. She glanced at Roderik, not sure what to make of such a display. If Tiara were still officially involved with Ravenclaw house, she would be having a conversation - of sorts - with Daxton about it. Text Cut: Rula "Miss Botros! Welcome to class," she greeted, happy to see someone that wasn't glaring before class even began. Text Cut: Kaycee Tiara smiled at the next entrant as well. "Hello, Prefect Richards. Any seat is fine." Text Cut: Brooklyn Tiara returned Brooklyn's nod as she entered. "Welcome, Miss Andrews." Text Cut: Olivia Tiara's eyebrows went up upon Olivia's arrival. She didn't even return the greeting. She merely just gave a quizzical look to Roderik, trying as hard as she could not to burst out laughing. Text Cut: Charlotte "I would not get much closer if I were you, Miss Kettleburn," Tiara warned. Not that anything too terrible would happen. But.. why give away the surprise early? Text Cut: Rebecca A new face entered next. And before Tiara could ask her colleague about the girl, the Gryffindor was saving Tiara the effort. "Tanner," she supplied. "I will probably just stick with Miss Meadows, you are correct," she affirmed. "And no need to worry, there will be plenty of students who are not up on their Arithmancy. Feel free to ask if you need help," she finished with an encouraging smile. Text Cut: Niomi "Ah, Miss Kelly, welcome to class. Sit anywhere you want," she said, indicating the now half-full room. Text Cut: Hady Tiara had been sad to see Hady drop the class, but she understood. It happened every year, and not everyone was as passionate about the subject as herself. "Welcome, Miss Lynch. It is very good to see you in my classroom again," she said with a warm smile. Text Cut: Tenacius True to his name, Tenacius appeared ready to go for this lesson. "Hello, Mister Salander! Take a seat, we are almost ready to begin." Text Cut: Zeke Tiara tried not to play favorites, but if she was honest with herself, one of hers had just walked in. "Mister Browne," she said warmly, "good to see you. Please take a seat." |
Arithmancy wasn't a subject of particular interest to the seventh year Ravenclaw but Defense was and so she made her way into the classroom and greeted both professors with a respectful nod of the head and a polite smile. The seat she took was one at the back and after settling into it, she simply eyed the boxes, one on a stool and the other on the desk. She didn't see Hirsch and Tanner exchanging gifts so something more interesting must be inside each. She was hoping so, anyway. |
Text Cut: You guuuuys ^^ Was it time? Hirsch glanced down at his watch, waiting a few seconds before flicking his wand and letting the door shut with a sharp SNAP! There. They could start now. Turning towards the class, the Defence Professor looked around at them all, a smile in place. "Hello, and welcome to your joint Arithmancy and Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson." And here he was, walking around amongst the desks. "The two subjects may seem very different: Arithmancy requires more of a theoretical approach while Defence has a more practical approach." Correct him if he was wrong, Tiara. "But today, Professor Tanner and I have combined the two together to teach you all about......" Dramatic pausing, anyone? "................ curse-breaking." That was a good way of introducing the topic, wasn't it? "Now. Let's paint a scene: say you're a curse breaker and you're looking for treasure and you come across that box up there. Your profession tells you that you shouldn't trust the unknown. I mean, why would you? You don't know what's inside the box. You don't know what's on the outside of the box either. Most curses are hidden, remember. Lurking, even." Constant vigilance, anyone? "So how would you go about trying to get it to open? How would you try and get the treasure inside?" OOC: EEEEEE! Are you guys excited? I AM! |
Abby thought about the question and raised her hand and said "Well first i would cast a protective charm and try to figure out what sort of curse i could be dealing with and then carefully proceed to use a unlocking spell to open the box" |
Dramatic pauses. Oooh what a way to get those who werent listening to listen. But not this boy. He did pause his breath though. But right what to do? How to open a cursed box? Something that may even be booby trapped even from the outside? The Gryffindor Ace furrowed his brows as the wheels in his heard turned and turned. Then up went the hand "We kick it!" he answered exuberantly "The stand I mean-- Oh wait! Maybe we can cast some kind of revealing charm first, see what spells are enforced on it. I mean for all we know it might have a spell that makes it weigh a ton. And then if we can see that its safe-- then we kick it!" Yeah yeah? Makes total sense to him "I mean theres been so many times I toppled over things at all these fancy places and they broke open when they werent supposed to and I got yelled at and stuff and stuff and yea-- definitely kicking it and toppling it over will work Professors. Guaranteed!" Beam. |
