A sign encouraging you to knock before entering is attached to the wooden door of Professor Tiara Tanner's office. Once you have received permission to enter, you will notice a sparsely decorated office. A clean, organized desk will meet your view, with three rickety chairs for visitors. Besides the desk and chairs, a small bookshelf is the only other piece of furniture to be found in the room, and titles such as Flying with the Cannons, Quidditch Through the Ages, Numerology and Grammatica, or Sound Teaching Principles in an Unsound World are shelved next to a broomstick servicing kit. Leaning against the wall nearby is a Firebolt in pristine condition. The only decoration to speak of on the walls is a moving photograph of the professor herself with her husband, Jason, in front of the pyramids in Giza.
If you wish to speak with Professor Tanner, she would be more than happy to see you. Whether you have an academic, social, or flying problem, Tiara is known for her sound advice and calm demeanor.
Sabbath was surprised to hear Professor Tanner refer to him as 'dear', up until now he was almost sure he was in for a dressing down. "Oh, no thanks, Professor" he replied, holding up his hand in refusal and taking a seat. He hadn't yet warmed to the British penchant for tea, much preferring his usual morning cafe con leche. "Ooh, a chocolate frog," he exclaimed with a smile, "yes please". He took the offered frog and turned over the small pentagonal box in his hands, still quite surprised at the turn in proceedings.
He listened as Professor Tanner spoke, if she was willing to let the note passing incident slide, he certainly wasn't going to bring it up again.
He nodded as she finished her spiel "Emm, thank you Professor" and he was thankful, he really was. However, he was well aware he had just sidestepped a detention and was certainly not keen to replace it with some long-winded counselling session or additional academic tutoring. "That is really kind of you to offer, Professor but I dont think..... his voice trailed off as he looked at her in consideration.
He was actually very interested in gaining some defensive training. Of course, the DADA professor would be the obvious master to approach on these matters, but... He looked at the Professor again. She was an intelligent and strong woman, perhaps she could offer a different perspective on defence. He figured that in the very least she could probably teach him something different to the instruction he'd recieved the from the dark wizard at the Hog's Head. He figured he had little lose by asking, "Professor, could you give me some advice on defence? After being captured I think I would really feel better to improve myself in this area. Perhaps you could teach me a hex or two?"

No tea, not even biscuits? Wow, this boy had some serious restraint. But wait.. aha! She got him with the chocolate frog after all. There, she felt better about herself. "I think I will join with you and have one myself." So she could be honest when Jason asked if she'd had one yet.
She hadn't really been expecting him to open up to her. So it surprised her when he appeared to be considering it. Then his actual request really caught her off guard. "Hmm.." she mused, thinking it over. "I do not think it is my place to be teaching you hexes, jinxes, and the like as I am not your defense teacher." And she didn't know how his real professor would take to the knowledge of someone else teaching Sabbath.
Mulling it over, she decided her first instinct was correct. But that didn't mean she couldn't offer him some advice. "However, your most basic defense should always remain what your House's strength is: logic and common sense. Avoid situations you sense could be dangerous." She understood that was not what he was looking for, but it was one of those ideas that was so obvious, people tended to discount its importance.
