There are greenish lamps by black leather couches and chairs, with skulls all around. Scattered around the room are very comfy green bean bag chairs. Once you get in them you just might think you've been attacked by Devil's Snare as you find that the bean bags are almost impossible to get out of. With the common room being located under the lake, you can occasionally see mermaids, grindylows and the giant squid swim by when you look out the windows. A rug covers the floor in front of the fireplace that has a hunter green fire burning in it. The Slytherin emblem is everywhere, as house pride is one of Slytherin's strong qualities. It reminds students of what being a Slytherin means and allows them to share those feelings with others. This is where Slytherin students are allowed to unwind, study and chat with one another. There is a room straight ahead that students may use as a quiet place to study and ask prefects and high scoring students questions. To the left, a corridor that leads to the Boys Dorms, and to the right a corridor that leads to the Girls Dorms. Beside each corridor is self inking quill and parchment with the words Attendo Thea Vipera on it. This is where you can leave a little information about yourself so your housemates can get to know you better. On the side of the fireplace is a Notice Board for class and homework announcements, as well as general announcements. The Roster is also there for Students to make sure their name is listed and spelled correctly. Placed around the room there are four different Wizard Chess game boards. Find a partner and see who can keep their pieces from getting smashed by the opposing team. A podium stands to the side with a copy of Hogwarts a History, which is where you will learn that even though the whole dungeon had once been flooded, nothing was waterlogged or permanently damaged. |
Ariadne was pretty much done with exploring the castle all by herself. It had started out fun and adventurous, but after aa while, it just got boring all by herself. SURELY one of the other Snakes would be game for walking around with her. She didn't know too many of them YET, but there was a whole common room that was probably full of people! She'd just head there and find one of them now! Walking into the common room, Ariadne expected to see it bustling with people. That wasn't what happened, though. She actually thought she'd walked into the wrong room. Maybe an abandoned one or something. There were couches and a study area and even a house pet, but...no people. WELL. There goes all her plans up in flames. Every last one of them! She sighed and collapsed on a couch. She had her pick of ALL the seats in the room. |
Quote:
She wasn't alone. "If you sit over here, you can sometimes see the squid come by. And actually, I've seen mermaids too, but they aren't as friendly." Dot pulled a length of fabric from her project bag and charmed a needle and thread to work their way through it. |
Text Cut: Ern! Ariadne had nothing else to do but get lost in her thoughts. She had several random things on her mind. For one, she needed an owl. Everybody she talked to had one of their own, and she just thought it seemed like a cool pet to have. For two, she needed to get out more. Was it just her, or did EVERYBODY already to seem to know everybody else? With all these thoughts on her mind, she didn't even see her prefect come into the room and take a seat. Ariadne jumped up into a seating position upon hearing Dot's voice. "Whoa!" she exclaimed. "Had you been a super evil dark wizard, you would have gotten me!" Dead. Done for. AK'ed. Ariadne smiled when she saw who she was talking to. Their PREFECT, and prefects were super, cool, and awesome older students. She always thought it was SO COOL when one of them talked to her. "Can you REALLY?" she asked, all excited to hear that piece of news. Ariadne peered out into the Black Lake with eyes wide open and alert. New goal = see the squid from the common room! "They're not?" ... "What do they DO?" These kinds of things qualified as valuable information to a very impressionable eleven-year-old. |
Quote:
"Lucky for you, I'm not a super evil dark wizard or witch. I'm just very sneaky. Like a perfectly not evil ninja witch." Dot smoothed the cloth over her lap to make sure the stitches came out even and straight before turning her attention back to Ariadne. "Come look for yourself. I've seen all sorts of creatures out those windows. And mermaids... they swim. They frown. The usual." |
Quote:
Ariadne kept up conversation, but her eyes were glued to the gateway to the lake. She was hoping to see a REAL MERMAID! "So how do you like being a prefect? I bet you feel super cool and awesome all the time!" she continued. Ariadne felt super cool and awesome just talking to Dot! Ariadne bounced a little and started to point out the window, but then...it was just a rock. That didn't stop her from looking...CONSTANTLY looking...for something more interesting to pass by. |
HE HAD GOTTEN MAAAAAAAAIL. Jaemin zoomed into the common room as fast as his little legs would carry him, clutching the sturdy wooden box to his chest. He had gotten quite a bit of mail already, letters every few days from his parents, but this was different. This was a box. Which meant it had stuff in it. He hadn't wanted to open it in the Great Hall, so the boy had abandoned his leftover food and taken off the second he'd realised what was happening. He skidded to a halt in the middle of the common room, looked around, and made a beeline for an empty couch that seemed out of the way of everyone else milling about. The small boy sat sideways, legs tucked under him, and set the box on the cushion in front of him. Why did Dad make these things so difficult to open?! |
Quote:
After breakfast, Olly headed back to the common room. He still had his letter in his hand so he could put it away in his dorm. He'd probably meet up with Ellery later but he didn't have any other plans. When he entered the common room he saw that there weren't many people around. A few probably doing homework or whatever. On the couch he spotted a firstie he recognized from the first Astronomy lesson. "Hello," Olly greeted him cheerfully. Then he saw that he was holding a box and he walked closer curiously. "What's that?" |
Quote:
He did look up at the voice though, and gave the boy a cheerful wave. "My dad sent me a package! I can't get it open though." Had he sealed it with magic?! Jaemin pawed at it a bit more before feeling at his pockets for his wand. Where had he hid it today... He was a grown up wizard guy now, he knew how to get this thing open! They had learned just the spell for this. "You got mail too?" He pointed at the letter as he pulled his wand from his sleeves. He really needed to choose a specific place to hide it all the time. |
Quote:
Oh right, he was still holding his letter. Olly nodded. "Yeah, a letter from my dads." He just shrugged. It was uninteresting. An update of how things were at home and questions for him about school. Typical letter from home things. Not as interesting as a package. |
sorry D: had a um... mechanical emergency heh Quote:
The lid of the box slid ever so slightly to one side. It was a sliding top, then. And his father had sealed it with magic! Jaemin wiggled a bit in his seat and bounced once before reaching to stick his fingers into the slight opening. What was in hereeeee? It had to be something good, right? His dad had said before that he was going to send Jaemin something to keep him busy at school... The small boy gave the other boy a little bit of a look, warning him to keep his hands to himself, and opened the box. The inside was filled with... "PLANTS!" he shrieked excitedly, forgetting that the entire common room didn't really need to know. "Dad sent me plants!" The thing was full of miniaturised plants, just like his dad's glass tanks at home! |
Quote:
"What kind of plants?" He asked, peering closer. Not that he would really know the different kinds. "Do you like plants? Like Herbology?" Obviously he liked these plants. Olly had not known anyone before who had such an interest in plants except Professor Myers who taught Herbology. |
Quote:
"Coooooool," he whispered, running his finger along the edge of the sliding glass top. He looked up at Olly, smiling brightly. "These are from his experiment, that's why they're all tiny. See?" He pointed at a small patch of very tiny dittany, growing next to equally small hellebores. It seemed his father had sent him more mundane plants than magical, but that was okay! Jaemin had quite enough magical plants at his disposal in the greenhouses here, where he could bother Professor Myers to tell him all about them. The professor was nice, he'd even let Jaemin look at stuff in the big bad greenhouse. Did he like plants? "I love plants," he replied, flipping the lid over to remove the taped-on envelope that he hadn't noticed until everything had turned to glass. "I'm gonna be a proper Herbologist when I grow up!" Instead of the tiny, not-proper Herbologist he was now. |
Quote:
"And blood lines don't mean much. Maybe don't mean anything, really." She returned to her project and let Ariadne stare out the window. It wasn't hurting anyone, even if she was likely to leave a nose print on the glass. "Being a prefect is a lot of work. You have rounds, you have leadership responsibilities, and then at the end of the day, you still have to be a student and get your work done. I like it, but it definitely doesn't make me cool. It makes me the very uncool girl enforcing the rules." She'd learned that from Thornton, and it was a cold splash of water to the face. |
Text Cut: Dot Ariadne raised her eyebrows at Dot's first comment. "Yeah...that sounds a LOT like a Slytherin to me. I think I have a lot of that in me, too! Ambition...determination...none of that silly evil stuff, though," she told Dot. It was funny how each Slytherin in her family seemed like a DIFFERENT kind of Slytherin. "I'm just glad I found a place here." Meaning SLYTHERIN. "You want to know a secret? I miss home a lot. I know that probably makes me a baby, but it's true. Being in the same house my mom, dad, and sister were all in makes me feel better about it, though. Plus, I'm getting better the more I get used to the school." This was the consequences of a homeschooled child who'd never really been away from home until now. Ariadne scooted away from the window and gave up on her search for now. Nothing was really passing by, causing her start to lose interest in it. Dot was telling her all about being a prefect now anyway, which seemed way more excited than looking for grindylows out the common room window. "I've heard a little about it from my sister, too. She was Slytherin prefect back when she was in school." Ariadne knew it was a lot of work, but it still seemed like a really cool position to hold. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that prefects were CHOSEN and not EVERYBODY could be one. Yeah. That had to be it. "Well, whether you feel uncool or not, I think you're an awesome prefect and a really cool older student!" No, she was not sucking up. What would be the benefit of that anyway? Ariadne was genuinely a very encouraging little girl. |
Little Elf was bored Toddles goes to cleans. Toddles hears common rooms dirties. Toddles needs to cleans. Toddles goes and explores. Yes Toddles does. Toddles not like kitchens anymores. Toddles sees master and mistresses and Toddles bows to studenties. Toddles looks for trinkets. Toddles needs collections. |
This wasn't the first time Elsa entered her common room after sorting, but it still took her breath away. She didn't know what the dormitories and common room of other schools were like, but she was pretty sure this one topped almost every single one. She wandered around, touching some of the furniture with the tip of her fingers, marveling at how comfortable the temperature was even though they were underground and surrounded by lake's water. She could see some people talking nearby and a busy cleaning and looking for something. She tilted her head to the side with curiosity looking at the little elf. Back at Portugal they had an elf that served them as well, he had been in her mother's family for ages, but then he got sick and died and her mother couldn't handle the loss. It was like losing a relative - which he was in most ways. She picked one of the comfortable looking sofas, folded her legs under her and kept and watchful eye to her surroundings. |
Toddles! & Anyone else c: Entering the common room from the dorms Hady instantly spotted Toddles and smiled lightly to herself. "Hello Toddles, how are you today?" she asked quietly giving the small elfie a little wave. Gosh they were just so cute and he was one of the sweetest ones, always so helpful. With a light smile on her face the fifth year grabbed herself her usual beanbag chair and tugged it across the room closer to the large windows. Settling herself down on it she made a soft noise calling her cat over whom promptly leaped up onto her lap and settled himself down there. Smoothing Hagan's fur with one hand Hady then used her other to flip open a Transfiguration book to go over a few spells and practice them. |
Hi there :D Quote:
A large cat appeared and sat on her lap. Elsa could hardly contain the high pinch sound that tried to escape her throat once she laid eyes on the animal. She gathered some courage - since first introductions were not her forte - and leaning on the arm rest of her sofa, cleared her throat discreetly. "Hi! I'm Elsa, that's a beautiful cat you have there, what's it's name?" she asked, trying to be polite "Do you mind if I pet it?" She simply loved cats. So much that back at Portugal she was friendly called Future-Cat-Lady and allusion to a muggle show most of her friends were fond. She found the name fitting, since she fed and played with all the cats in her neighborhood like they were her own and would have made them all her own if it wasn't for her father's allergies. |
SPOILER!!: Elsa! Balancing her book on one knee she managed to flip the bag and continue putting the fluff ball in her lap without causing either to topple over. Something she'd grown rather used to with all the reading and studying she always seemed to be doing this year. Being her meant she needed an 'O' in like everything. Nothing else would do. Hearing someone beside her Hady swing her hazel eyes up to see who was there. A much younger girl she knew to be a firstie but somehow the name had slipped her memory. Elsa, did she say? And compliments to her cat? Oh, boy. Did you hear that Hagan? "Nice to meet you Elsa I'm Hady and this is Hagan," she offered the girl a small grin. "Sure, he enjoys all the attention he gets." Sometimes to much. "How are you liking being in Slytherin?" Did she like her house? |
SPOILER!!: Hady :3 She watched eagerly the other Slytherin girl react to her presence. Hady, nice name! After hearing the words she had been anticipating for the last 30/60 seconds - a lifetime - she instantly got up. Any faster and one could swear she had apparated. She knelt beside Hady's beanbag chair and stretched her hand towards Hagan allowing him to smell her fingers before touching him. "Nice to meet you too Hady!" she said, looking from the girl's lap to her face, pleased she looked friendly "Hagan is beautiful, how old is he?" she purred softly to the cat, petting his head and scratching his ears. "Being a Slytherin is great, my mum was a Slytherin too, she told me all about it's history and her adventures here. I already had my mind set on going to school in Portugal, there we don't have houses..." she explained, still petting the cat "...but then my mum convinced my dad that it would be very important for me to attend Hogwarts and since she has been working with the UK all along, we moved!" too much information? She never knew when enough was enough. She smiled awkwardly and lowered her eyes to Hagan once more. "How about you, what year are you in?" she said after a moment, eager to know more about the Slytherins and Hogwarts' life. |
SPOILER!!: Elsa c: Watching the younger girl spring up from her set and come right over made Hady nearly laugh. It was rather cute how excited this girl seemed to be about being able to pet Hagan. Just as she had expected too her beloved cat lifted his head at the new comers hand, barely sniffed her fingers before nudging her hand with his head. He was just fine with being petted by this girl. "He's about four and a half now. I got him just before coming here in my first year." She smiled softly at the memory of when she first saw her cat in the store and knew instantly that she had to have him. Not only had he been her pet for school but he had also been a birthday present that year. Ohh interesting. So she had almost gone to a completely different school. "That's cool, it made things a lot easier then moving closer and all that," she replied nodding with some understanding. Moves could be nice when they were for the right reasons. And at least she liked being a snake which was always good. Setting her book aside on the floor beside the beanbag chair and shifting around a little bit to make herself more comfortable she turned her fully attention onto Elsa. "I'm in my fifth year now, year of the dreaded OWLs." Hence why she was always reading a book or practicing some spell or charm or something. "I always knew I'd be in the house of green. My parents were as were their parents so it's where I was going to be too. Even when the sorting hat didn't think so, I got my way so that's all I care about really," she laughed quietly dropping her gaze to Hagan for a moment before looking back to the girl. |
SPOILER!!: Hady ^.^ She smiled kindly and scratched Hagan's ear one more time before allowing the cat to rest without her constant touch. She folded her hands over her lap and kept knelt on the floor next to the beanbag chair. "Yes, it did indeed. Plus in my house we always spoke two languages, so it really isn't a strain for me to speak English now." she nodded. While growing up she didn't travel at all, except for the ocasional visits they paid to her grandparents in the UK. Other than that her mother kept a very quiet life and used owls and flow powder whenever she needed to arrange small business meetings with her counterpart in the UK. She puller her braid's tail between her fingers. "My mum is from a wizard village near Southampton, she met my dad after leaving Hogwarts. She was traveling through Europe with only an enchanted backpack and met my dad in a downtown Portuguese coffee. He usually says she bewitched him. He's muggle you know?" she told beaming with content, throwing the braid's tail to her back and clapping her hands excitedly. Yep, she was a little hyper some times, but Merlin, that was her favorite story in the world. She winced instantly when she heard about Hady being a 5th year. Darn OWLs were supposed to be living HELL! "Oh wow, OWLs I can't imagine what that will be like. I'm struggle with some 1st year transfiguration and you're already setting your future in motion!" she looked at Hardy gravely "Do you already know what you'll want to be once you're out of Hogwarts?" she herself had never really given it a thought, maybe something to do with plants would be nice. "What do you mean the sorting had didn't think so?" Elsa asked curiously, blowing a kiss to Hagan and crossing her legs under bum to sit more comfortably. The hat didn't give herself much attention, screamed SLYTHERIN after only a few moments of being placed in her head, so she didn't make much sense of what he was mumbling. |
SPOILER!!: Elsa Hagan had no trouble curling himself up on his owners lap and going right back to sleep. An easy change is always the best type. It was nice when you could switch over to something else so calmly. Her move to London with her father had been easy as well but they were all still adjusting with things on their own. Listening to the story about how Elsa's parents was entertaining and she could tell the younger girl really enjoyed telling it. "My dad used to travel all the time, mostly a lot of hiking and exploring, things like that." Not entirely the same but a bit similar. "Him and my mom knew each other since they were teenagers though." No need to really get into all that, right? Aaww she was having trouble with Transfiguration? "Oh? What is it you're having problems with? Maybe I could help you out." It's what house mates did and all that. Plus transfig was one of her better lessons. Did she know what she wanted to do with her life? Well of course she did! Hadleigh grinned brightly. "I've always known. I want to be a healer for creatures." Major life goal right there. One she knew was going to happen and she was already taking all the right steps towards making it so. Everyone always asked this question. It was a curious one Hady knew and she didn't mind answering it. "He kept telling me that I would be happier and do better in another house. I wasn't having any of that...I wanted to a snake." Since day one when she knew the difference of the houses she knew this was meant to be hers. |
SPOILER!!: Hady! Elsa nodded as she listened to Hady talk. Hiking and exploring, that sounded exciting! She would like to do that too! She mused over the idea of finding the love of her life while a teenager and looked around a bit to the apparently empty common room. No luck now eh? At Hady's question about her difficulties in Transfiguration she looked down, embarrassed. She scratched the back of her neck "Well, almost with everything really. Transfiguration doesn't seem to suit me.. or the other way around." she took a peek at Hady's eyes and quickly averted her own shyly. This was something she was quite conceited of, her mother had a natural gift for transfiguration and she couldn't even make her familiar move. Oh yes she did the ocasional spell but most of the times it was a struggle far too hard to be normal. She took copious notes every lesson, re-read them at night, practiced and it still didn't flow naturally to her. "For instance" she explained "I couldn't make my clay familiar move do more than a few spams. It was like it was having a seizure or something." she pouted a little. Dear Morgana help her, her mother would nag her to eternity if she failed Transfiguration. She felt it was better not to pry on Hady's experience, so she joked good heartedly "Well, that will teach him not to try and make you do something you don't want!" . With that, she got up, removed her wand form her sleeve and waved it to the nearest one place sofa, sitting comfortably and leaning her head on her hand. This was nice, she didn't get a chance to make many friends but she was happy to be talking to Hady. Maybe they could be friends! |
