The Great Lake, also known as the Black Lake, is a large body of water located to the south of the castle. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. Creatures have made it their home from Merpeople to Grindylows, with even Moaning Myrtle occasionally taking a swim.

The most notable is Bartholomew Henry, the Giant Squid. While busy with his kin, it is not uncommon to spot him or possibly receive a helping hand should you slip in after enough callings. Boats and life vests mainly reserved for the First year's entrance and Graduate's departure still sit by the dock. With Mr. McLeod's permission you'll be permitted to use them for a lovely afternoon of sailing.

There are also several trees by edge of the lake. A Beech tree in particular with a hollow hole inside is filled with books that have been left there over time. If you take one, be sure to replace one in exchange to keep the system alive.

Guitar in hand and NEW guitar at that since he managed to talk his dad into buying him one, Chris walked down to the lake. He was super excited to try it out but other than the room of requirement he didn't like playing in the castle because it might bother other people.

Half bouncing, half running down he found a tree and sat down. Quickly he looked around hoping he'd see Torie or James considering he hadn't seen them since the summer and was really worried they didn't come. If that were the case this year was going to suck bad.

Not finding either of them or even Timmy for that matter he started playing a few chords and humming. Candy and something serious huh? What was her favorite candy? He knew she liked peaches...maybe he could do one about peaches instead. Could make it candied peaches like the ones she had at her house. Bah. He didn't have a clue.

Well so much for a happy mood. Which was okay. Cinna frowned at the mention of Lux. "Yeah, I miss Lux, too." She really did, and of course she missed Bart and Emmy too. With what happened last term she didn't blame them for not coming back honestly. She also nodded about the other part of what she say.

"Yeah. That's pretty easy to do, but don't dwell on it too much." There was times that Cinna still thought about it. She tried not too. Then there was other times that she could completely block out things from last term. Being back thought made it harder to deal with the events of last term sometimes.

Abby nodded and said "Sure that sounds great Cinna and yes i am trying not to dwell on it too much but hard to forget at times but i am just hoping that nothing like that happens again" Abby wouldnt be able to cope if anything did happen like that

Torie headed outside once again, he sort of preferred being outdoors now this year. Too many bad memories getting chased by spiders inside the school. Professor Morgan had talked him into coming back and she had promised to protect him as did a sixth year Ravenclaw... He still wasn't too excited but he'd agreed to come back. Now to stay away from the spiders. Any spiders. That made Herbology a little interesting.

He headed down for the lake figuring spiders didn't like water much. He sighed as he walked through the grounds, it was nice being back if he was honest really. He wanted to stay home but not really too, because he'd miss this place. As long as he didn't have anything bad happen this year he'd be happy.

Looking around he saw Chris nearby and his eyes lit up "Hey!" he said as he headed his way "You still grounded?" Heh!

"I managed to sneak out though once and went to this girl Timila's house." His cheeks turned a little red without meaning to and he turned to look at his guitar.

"You like it? Dad bought it for me though mum said no originally. I think he felt bad for getting me grounded like that or something." He turned it over and then handed it to him. "How can I hang out with my best friend if he's hiding in the common room?" He asked eyeing him curiously.

"What I do is think about the happy positive times of last term." That is what she did. She did that during the time of being kidnapped too. It did make things better.

"Well I hope so too. But this is Hogwarts and you just never know." It was definitely a learning experience for her last term. She was not going to go looking for terrible this term and if terrible came looking for her she was running the other way. Hopefully.

He smiled as he said he liked the guitar and played a few of the strings. He couldn't help but shudder at the mention of spiders and looked at him. "I don't want to ever see a spider again."

Perfect!

Maisie was happy as could be when she had finally found her towards the lake. Was it the sea? No, obviously not, but she was more than thrilled to have this as her backyard. Not many people could say that their school sat beside a lake, so this was something she definitely appreciated. She could see herself spending some free, alone time here, and the atmosphere was just lovely.

There didn't seem to be too many kids right now, but she was sure that more would be joining along soon enough, especially the first years, to capture and take in the new sight. She looked around, trying to find a good vantage point to rest and enjoy, until she noticed a very nice tree that seemed climbable. Maisie made her way over to it examining its structure.

He probably wasn't out as often as he thought. Ah well he had all year to see it. As he sat down and just admired the view because let's face it, the view was gorgeous. His mother would love it here. He should take pictures and send her some. He would need to get a camera eventually. He wondered where he could get one?

As he pondered the question, he turned to his right he saw a girl looking at the tree. She seemed to be in deep thought and he looked it up and down and maybe she thought about climbing it. He would wanna climb it, it seemed like the perfect tree. "You thinking about climbing this tree?" he asked her.

She felt horrible, she didn't feel like she belonged here in Gryffindor or even at the school. The seventeen year old felt so stupid for even thinking about coming here. She was sure that she was being talked about in the corridors and possible by her housemates but she didn't know anyone so she didn't give a damn...yet. Larissa came running out into the sunlight, she had no clue where she was going but she made it as far as she could. She could barely even see where she was going. She couldn't breathe because of all the running that she had done just to get down here. Larissa fell to her knees and just kept crying. Her hands covered her face and tears were stream out of her brown eyes and rolling down her cheeks. Her mascara was running down her face. She just wanted to go home.

"We can do magic, Ava! I can show you the spell that will get you dry like this!'' Adi paused from splashing Ava to snap his fingers. Awh! Wasn't she adorable when she pouted?

Oh, she was right, wasn't she? He DID have prefect duties but he had done some of that and would do the rest later. The day was still young. "Part of my duties include ensuring the firsties aren't getting into any trouble.'' That meant eyes on YOU, Ava Burton. Hehe. Plus Adi did promise Zhenya he would help take care of the twins and his promises he kept. "It's a little too early in the term to be studying, I think. I bet Teddy wouldn't agree to that though.'' Adi could do with taking a page out of the Ravenclaw's book. Hehe.

He laughed when Ava explained the family's prediction. "Yep, Teddy would be pretty easy to figure out. Let's see, you're always in trouble, huh? That makes you brave for taking them on and it also gives me more of a reason to keep an eye on you.'' He paused. "Gosh, I wonder what your family had predicted for Zhenya.'' Haha. Never in a million years would Adi put her in Slytherin.

With that thought, the seventh year turned his attention to the shorty firstie who had joined them. "HIIII,'' he said happily to the kid! Awh, he wanted to see Bart! As a matter of fact, Adi DID know how to call the Squid. "Sure! We can try calling him. I hope he's close by.'' Just as how he had called the Squid for Margo a couple of terms ago, Adi cupped his hands around his mouth.

"BARTHOLOMEEEEW!"

"You guys can try calling him too,'' he encouraged the Lions.

She continued pacing around, trying to find which tree branch would be best to climb onto when her thought was interrupted. Turning around, she saw a boy, probably somewhere around her age or younger, speaking up to her. "Yes, actually." It probably wasn't very hard to tell. "The lake is beautiful, isn't it?" She continued, glancing back at the great land of water, momentarily distracted by its beautiful sight. Her attention, though, was now back to this boy. "I'd like to get a wonderful vantage point to look at everything, you know? Take it all in at once, and enjoy the surrounding nature. This tree looks perfect for that. Were you thinking along the same lines?" Or did he take time out of his own day hoping Maisie would talk to him?

Her hands that once had just a quill in them now held a little package. "What is this for?" She knew she had been a mess emotionally lately and he had been so sweet to support her in every way, even now with little gifts. "You are too good to me." Opening the wrapping she looked at the little diary. "It's perfect, though I hope this isn't a hint to write down my thoughts instead of coming to you so much." She chuckled jokingly, but knew she probably needed to give him a little break.

"I had the elves make us some finger sandwiches, chips, apples with caramel dip, and some brownies. Plus tea." She hoped that was alright for lunch.

Chris nodded and thought about the way Torie's mum acted versus the headmistress and shrugged. "She seems nice at least." Though he hadn't really talked to her or spent time with her so....she could be really mean and he didn't know it.

He frowned as Chris fell over laughing and reached over and punched him as hard as he could in Torie's arm. "It's not funny!" Hmph. Rude. "We kissed properly after that. You're just jealous," he said. Yup JEALOUS!

Wait there was a way to protect himself? Why hadn't dad taught him that? Oh right...he had been grounded. Sigh. "Want to show me what it is?" That way he could be prepared for those nasty spiders. Wouldn't get to eat HIM next time. No sir.

Finding a comfortable position on the blanket under the tree Leo tossed Aries and Gemini each a kitty treat before he focused his attention on Cassie as she opened the package. Relieved that she liked the present Leo blinked and smiled somewhat simultaneously as he explained the reason for the gift. "You deserve goodness. I just thought it'd be handy to have a place to sort all your thoughts and emotions in and a diary seemed like the perfect solution. I want you to still always fell like you can come to me with all your thoughts and emotions though." He trailed off as Cassie pointed out the food selection to him. Eyeing everything Leo said "It all looks delicious."

Grabbing the teapot he started to pour up tea for them both as he gestured with a thumb to her letter. "If that letter is to Nessa then give her my love and say that it is very odd to sit next to a ghost at meal times. Especially since she doesn't eat like normal people." And because well she was hard to converse with. A lady of few words.

What did he DO? He'd been planning on being an Auror forever but now...ugh. Life was HARD. He hated it. HATED IT. DECISIONS. GAH.

"A healer? That'd be pretty cool - but yeah, not if you don't like sick people," he said with a smile. That was kind of all you encountered there..."My dad actually went back to school to be a healer. He didn't know WHAT he wanted to do and kind of just bounced around for a while doing random things. My mum, she worked with potions. But then she retired for a bit since my brother was born and she can raise him," he explained. He wondered what Levi would want to do when he was older...his biggest joy in life seemed to be making (and eating) mud pies right now soooooo. Hmm.

Nemo went for a walk along the lake. He wasn't sure what Damien was up to and didn't really have other friends. So if D wasn't around he was just running around solo. The Lion disliked it. What was Butch Cassidy without Sundance? But whatever.

This was about the time he spotted a girl who seemed to be crying.. she looked kinda familiar? But he didn't know her...and she was crying. He didn't do well with other people's emotions and Nemo knew this. Should he approach her?

He supposed he should. What if it was Whyttyr? He wouldn't want her crying out here all alone. "Excuse me?...Are you all right?"

Ava got a wave before Bentley readjusted his camera in his hand. It seemed like he was just in time too. They were about to call the squid. That was what he said right? The boy could hardly hold in his excitement.

Bentley squinted out at the lake then turned his attention to the older boy.

"So does he normally just hang out close by the lake or does he live deep deep in the lake?"

Her crying was getting worse. She was worried she was trying to be an attention seeker and she swears she isn't. The last thing Larissa wanted was to have people looking at her and judging her. She hated being judge. She was the odd one at this castle. No one told her that she was the odd one but when it came down to it at the end of the day she sure felt like the odd person of the castle.

Hearing a voice Larissa looked up and rubbed her eyes, smearing the mascara in the process. "Umm...y-y-yes." She was lying but only because she was shy and she had trust issues.
