Yaaaaay, it was time for Lux's favourite class. She was so ready to learn about new potions and get to brewing. It sucked that she couldn't really do any over the summer because of the whole no magic thing, but at the end of term she would be 17!! It was VERY exciting to be of age. Entering the classroom, she saw Culloden waiting at his desk. "Hello, Professor!" Taking a seat near the front, she waited for the lesson to begin. |
Potions class was in the …dungeons right? He thought he had seen the classroom door when he had been searching for Professor Botros office and had been lost at that time. Walking inside the room feeling extremely nervous, Yoongi wondered how Hogwarts taught Potions classes. Hopefully it was better than at Charms School because he was HORRIBLE at it. The blue color in the classroom was strangely calming but not enough for his mind to not freak out. Alright, if he just listened carefully, did the steps it would be fine. “Hello Professor, I’m Yoongi ,the charming transfer student from Charms School “ he flashed a smile but that could not hide the unease on his face. Should he tell he was dreadful at this subject? Thinking for a moment, Yoongi then turned around without saying anything else and sat down at the faaaaaaaar back of the room in the corner because if he messed up it would not be noticed. Hopefully… |
It's not very hard to find the potion classroom since it's located at the lowest level in Hogwarts castle. The dungeon. After having some brunch, the Korean guy then walked to the dungeons. Ugh, was it always creepy and dark around here? He'd never been around the dungeons before. Smiling, he entered the classroom and noticed the Professor was already there. Maybe he should introduced himself since he was a transfer student. "Professor... Culloden, right? I'm Jackson Hwang, fifth year and uh... transfer from Seoul." He slightly bowed to him. Hoped that he understood what he just said because of his Korean accent. Then he took a seat beside his dorm mate (Yoongi). "You don't mind if I sit here, do you?" He asked him. |
Potions was one of his favourite subjects, easily, AND, he thought he was pretty darn good at it. He was, right? RIGHT?! Nevertheless, grinning, the third year Gryffindor entered the potions class as he usually did and claimed a seat in the front row - as he usually did. He gave Lux a nod in greeting and extended one to the professor as well, "Hey, Professor." He would have launched into conversation and asked about todays lesson, but he figured the man had better things to do while they all arrived, so instead he set about unpacking his things and preparing his notes page by scribbling the date in the corner. Once that was in order, he washed his hands in anticipation of what was to come. |
Brooklyn still enjoyed the fact that one of her favorite classes happened practically right outside of her common room. It meant she didn’t have to do much to be there on time, if not early. Which is what she was, in her opinion. Early, and ready to brew potions. She had her hair pulled back in a braid, and all her Potions supplies were in her bag. All that was left was claiming her usual seat. That proved not to be too difficult, as she entered the classroom to find it relatively empty. “Good morning Professor Culloden,” she said with a smile as she passed his desk. Yep. There was her preferred seat, and she planted herself there and sat with back straight. Regal. Of course, she got ready for whatever might come first, but still, she wasn’t letting anyone think she wasn’t who she really was. |
It was time for Potions a lesson Hady normally enjoyed even if she had made a stupid careless mistake last term. However it was a new term now and that meant a new start for her. Pushing the strap of her bag back up onto her shoulder after it had slid down her arm she made her way down the hall before entering the Potions room to find only a few others inside. "Good morning Professor,"she greeted quietly making her way towards her usual seat and sitting down. With a quick glance around the room and a friendly nod of her head in greeting towards her friends Hady then went about focusing on setting up her table with her parchment, quill, wand and other things she would need. |

Ah yes. It’s that time of the day wherein he didn’t need to wake up too early to get in class on time. It was also that subject that he enjoyed...and aced during his exam last term. Uh-huh. Ethan was pretty sure that Professor Culloden would be delighted to see him continue with his class. The Slytherin confidently swaggered towards the classroom, and grinned at the man up front. “Hello, Professor Culloden! It’s nice to be back in your class.” Truth, yo. The soon to be seventeen year old took his usual seat, and settled his things on the table. Parchments and his self inking quill were taken out of course, ready to record all the useful Potion information that Culloden will share. Oh and...hi, Brooklyn! Ethan gave the tiny redhead a grin, as he sat back on his chair, waiting for the rest to arrive. |

Please tell me you're good at this subject Jackson just nodded and grinned at him. He didn't lie, Potions was the only subject that he didn't fail last year... and muggle studies too. "Why?" He asked. Let him took a guess, Yoongi was horrible in potions, wasn't he? Well, just hoped that he didn't make his cauldron explode today. |
Janelle was in a good mood today and she hoped this would transfer to a good day in Potions class. Upon entering the classroom, she gave a cheerful greeting to the Professor. "Hello Professor Culloden", Janelle said with a smile. Then she washed her hands and headed for her seat. Making herself comfortable, Janelle began to get her things in order, wondering what potion they would be brewing today. Keeping an eye on the arriving students, she sat back and waited for class to begin. |
Cilla entered the classroom. "Hello, Professor," she said as she smiled at him. She sat down next to Lux. Cilla smiled at her Hufflepuff friend as she placed the items she needed for the lesson and the desk in front of her. |

Yoongi let out a breath of relief and finally let go of his arm. Why? did he really have to ask that?! Because admitting flaws was something Yoongi did not like. Because he was perfect, from head to toe. "Why'd you think?" he whispered back urgently and took a glance in the Professor's direction. Technically , class had not yet begun but he did not want the man to overhear their conversation. "Ok ok, i'm terrible at potions and i need to sit next to someone i can cheat off when things get drastic..you wouldn't mind right? please?" he rubbed his hands together in a begging motion. "Or else i'm going to sit next to Leah" where was she even? |
Ilia walked into the classroom bowing politely to the professor. "Good morning sir." She said quietly and walked to find her seat. Looking around, she didn't see Henric or Leah yet, so she head farther back. There were two boys already whispering and one of them looked familiar. He name was....Yoongi, that's right. She took an unoccupied seat beside him and started pulling out her parchment and quill. Hopefully there wouldn't be anything like desk jumping in this class...... |
Natalia could stand the practical work involved in brewing potions; even handling beetle eyes and slimy particles were livable (and sometimes, kind of fascinating). But what was NOT okay, was the odor. Cautiously, the fourth-year Lioness first poked her head into the Potions classroom. After observing that only a few students have already arrived, Natalia slowly allowed the rest of her body to fit through the doorway and tip toed in, tilting her head slightly toward the ground to prevent as many pairs of eyes as possible from looking at her face mask. Hopefully, the professor won't mind, or even notice. Natalia attempted to bury herself behind a desk in the back of the room. The farther away from the source of potion-brewing, the less of that stench she had to inhale into her lungs. |
Norah hugged her bag close to her chest as she entered the potions classroom, stopping in front of Professor Culloden's desk to smile at him. "Hiiii Professor." She kept standing and smiling for a moment, wondering if she should say something else, before giving a little shrug that sent her want tumbling from behind her ear. Nobody saw that, right? Right. She stooped quickly to pick it up and instead of straightening up just crawled to the nearest empty seat. She wiggled in order to get comfy on the familiar squishy chairs, then began pulling out her materials for the day's lesson. Hopefully they'd be doing something COOL. |
YAY Potions! Zhenya's favourite! She was almost skipping to her last first Potions class of the term, and she walked into the classroom, washed her hands thoroughly, even though they were clean already, just to be safe, and stopped at Professor Culloden. "Hello Professor," she said, a big smile on her face. "Hope your summer was lovely and relaxing." Quote:
"Hi," she said, greeting the young Eagle. Zhenya remembered her older sister fondly. "How are you Janelle?" she asked, then added, "How is Jasmine?" |
Echo seemed like she had made it just in time, phew!!! Opening the door she came in to see a bunch of other students sitting down and Professor Culloden sitting at his desk "Hello Professor Culloden, hope your having a good day" she smiled at the man while she walked a bit faster to sit in a seat. She was just so tired the seat was so comfy and she was excited to be sitting down. |
Henric wasn't in a mood for anything really, he was feeling down in the weather today on top of everything that happened to him.Remembering the time he had a discomforting encounter with Noel at the kitchens, some ridiculous rumour spreading among the school like wildfire, thanks to Aparecium and already he had his hands full with moaning mytle creeping up behind him as if he was her new catch of the day in the boys lavatory...brrr...*goosebumps*...and now potions class....which he barely pass again last year. Henric walked in with heavy steps and smiled weakly at the professor. "Hello,professor...good morning," he greeted softly before looking around for a seat. He spotted llia and he couldn't help be alarmed for a moment, she was his closest friend but people started to have suspicions about them.Henric felt it was best not to sit by her today to avoid getting her involved in the rumours again. And Leah....he didn't know what to say to her....she probably didn't want to speak to him anymore because of this and his situation with Noel....Hmm... He found a corner at the far back...and sat there quietly.Staring blankly at the board, waiting for the class to start. |
Abby entered the potions classroom and said "Good morning professor" Abby got out her wand and said "Aguamenti" Abby pointed her wand and stream of water to her hands and washed them quickly before class started and she put her wand back in its holster and got out her book and other things needed for class |
Hugh was all about going to potions. Comfy cushions made for a comfy bottom and Hugh liked to be comfortable when he was in class...in case he zoned out to start philosophising. Some seats were better than others for that task. He had learned the hard way. Sliding into the room-- actually sliding because tripping happened-- Hugh landed sitting in his hip all popped out to look fabulous and said, "Morrrrrning." DID HE SEE THAT SAVE? Yo, that was BA. Booty Awesome. To his seat he toddled. |
Potions. Dante liked potions. Especially when he did them right. Though doing them wrong was fun on occasion to. When he did not get in trouble or things do not blow up in his face. That was always nice. Yes, Yes it was. "Hi, Professor C" Calming Blue walls were calming. |
SPOILER!!: Nats! <3 WOOT! POTIONSSSS! Adi's second favourite class EVAAAH! He walked into the room, a spring in his steps. He was looking forward to the lesson! Could they get started RIGHT NOW?! Hehe. "Hallo, hallo, Professor!'' A cheerful grin for you. "How are you? Did you have a good summer? Are you going to be brewing complicated potions with anyone else this term?" He didn't mean to drown you in questions, Professor  Loads of students were already gathered and waved to most of them but he happened to notice someone all the way in the back... were they trying to hide or something? Curiously, Adi approached the person, flopping down into the seat beside them. "Hi. You're loosing the battle to hide there.'' And who are you, anyway? |
Rusty was... still unconvinced about potions. Because all the potions she'd seen included bits of animal and.. well... just no. Nevertheless, she had to do it, it was compulsory, by the look of it, so here she was. She smiled at the professor as she entered the room and found herself a seat, not introducing herself like she had done in all her other classes, but to be honest she was a little nervous about what might be asked of her in this lesson... |
annnnd Izzy isn't good with intros............. okay Potionnnnnnnnnnnnnsssssssssssss Iselin skipped into the room "Hello Professor." she gave him a polite head non before going over to a work station close to the front of the room. She needed to be sure she understood everything this class. She set out a few things from her bag in front of her before looking around the room. so many interesting people here! |
SPOILER!!: Poor Henric <3 Ilia waved at Henric gently, but he didn't seem to notice her......did he look right past her? He didn't look quite as peppy as he usually did. Something seemed off and she was a bit concerned. Was he upset? Was he hurt or sick? What was wrong? She watched as he trudged off to a back corner, all alone. Class hadn't started yet, so she took her bag, parchment, and quills, and walked over to Henric. She purposely sat right beside him , and since he was the farthest in the corner he didn't have a choice about it. She set her stuff up and made her desk neat, then looked over at him. "What is wrong?" There was a soft , concerned frown on her face as her bright blue eyes searched him over for the source of distress. |
It was time for potions and that made AJ one very happy lion. This was one of her all time favorite classes, and the professor was pretty awesome too. AJ strolled into the classroom and spotted the professor. "Hi, professor." He seemed to be in good spirits... not that she ever really saw him any other way. So many people were already here, and that was a sight that AJ was used to because she was almost always running behind. She had yet to be late to any classes as of yet, but the year was still young. AJ spotted her boyfriend and gave him a warm smile. Lux was also there, and AJ chose to sit by her this time. "Hey," she half whispered when she took her seat next to the older puff. |
Potions was NOT one of Noel's tolerable classes. He was just not good at it and it frustrated him. This was in fact one of those subjects he knew he was going to do bad at in OWLs this year. There was no escaping it sadly. At least the professor was nice. So though he was sulking, he managed to direct a small smile at the professor and a hello before finding himself a seat and dreading it all. |
Hello Noel. :3 (also hello Dante we sit with you) Potions was.........alright. To be honest, Maggie preferred the magic-y type lessons. Like where you had to use your wand a lot. And not only to clean your cauldron. But Potions was okay. If they didn't have to dissect any worms or anything. Then it was okay. Walking into the classroom, Maggie smiled at the professor. "Hello, Professor." There, all polite and stuff. Go her, yeah? She'd already decided that she was going to sit with Dante (just in case there WERE any gross things to cut and stuff) but made a little detour on her way there. She walked all the way around the classroom so she could move behind where Noel was sitting and....quickly ruffled his hair in passing. Hehehehehe. And then she quiiiiickly made her way over to sit next to Dante. "Hey." Yes. She wasn't looking at him though. Instead she was smirking over at Noel. Hellooooo. |
SPOILER!!: The Great Hufflepuff Prefect o.O Err. Spotting a shadow approaching her, Natalia crouched even lower to avoid confrontation of any kind. Oh Merlin, it's ADI! Did he have to poke his nose at everything? Recognizing him as an ally, Natalia slowly arched her back straight to face the Oh-So-Great-Hufflepuff-Prefect. She curved her lips into a sheepish smile (no one could see it through her face mask, of course) before nervously glancing up at the front of the classroom. No one saw her, right? "I'm not fighting a battle. Not interested, thank you very much, Adi." Natalia's mumbling was barely audible through her pink-swirly-designed face mask. Maybe she should have worn a less conspicuous mask, but Nat really didn't have much choices. It was either this one or the really discernible Micky Mouse one. |
Now this class he knew he'd do well! Torie entered the classroom, excited to be able to do potions on his own now. He helped mum and dad a lot with the potions and knew the basics, and how most of the ingredients were shaped and how to open, slice, squeeze and anything else for the most part! He smiled and waved to the professor as he passed the desk and moved to find a spot immediately, and set his bag down by it before moving to wash his hands in the basin. Finally, he took a seat by his bag and grinned as the cushion formed to him. |
The blonde sixth year walked along to potions class with a big smile on her face. She was in a really good mood and she had no idea way. She had gotten a PERFECT nights rest for the first time in a few months and with no nightmares! No nightmares were a really good thing right now and just sleep was a really good thing right now too! Before walking into the classroom Emmylou made sure that she hadn't forgotten anything back in the common room. Nodding to herself Emmy had everything she needed for todays lesson well minus the common sense of potions because she wasn't the best person at doing potions but she made sure that she did her best. In her eyes she thought that at the very least and showing effort in a class was very important. |
Angel walked into the potion classroom and smiled as she looked at the Professor. "Good morning, Professor." Angel was totally looking forwards to the first potion lesson of the term. "How was your summer?" Angel hoped it was good. Angel washed her hands before she went and found a seat, she couldn't wait to see what potion they were going to be studying today, she thought it would be awesome if it was the ageing potion but she doubted the Professor would let them learn that. |
Well, hopefully this class would be more enthralling than Charms because Evie didn't want to fall asleep... again. It shouldn't have been a problem, though, because she was more awake now than she had been in charms class and she didn't see Damien yet which means she couldn't lean on his shoulder like she had last time. Heh. In fact, she really didn't see any of her friends... so Evie picked a seat close to a window in one of the middle rows and waaaaited for someone to sit by her. |
Potions. She definitely had love/hate relationship with this subject. Had... Apparently she now liked the subject more than ever. Thanks to her very good OWL scores. She was very very proud of herself. Even her grandmother who was a former Uni potions professor. She was always very critical of her. She had been Cinna's teacher when she was homeschooled. So grandma being proud of her was the best thing ever. So she decided that she likes potions now. The walk down to the classroom however she hated it way to much walking for her. She walked into the classroom. She seen Cossy. She walked past him on the way to a seat. "Good morning, Professor Cossy. " Yeah it was perfectly fine for her to call him that, right? She had gotten used to calling him Cossy now. She was totally blaming Bart for that. She spent to much time with them this summer. Yeah, okay in her opinion is wasn't enough. "How are you?" She smiled. Now where to sit. She seen Lux and have her a little wave. She spotted Emmy and flopped into the chair next to her. Bart was coming right? This was potions class after all. So he would be there she knew it. "Hello Em and Emmy." She totally giggled that was what her little brother Chase called his cousin. Hehe she had to show Emmy what he drew for her. Chase was quite the baby artist. She would show her after class it was in her bag right now. |
Potions Class. He was wondering when Professor C was going to hold a lesson. He was curious to know what was going to happen this term. I mean last terms lessons were fun and such. As he made his way to the classroom and opened the door and he saw others beat him to it. He saw his girlfriend Emmy at first. He smiled and then he saw Cinna and Lux. He waved to all of them. He went over to sit next to Emmy because why not? As he made his way over to her table, he greeted her with a, "Hey Emms.." and kissed her cheek. Then he took out his notebook and quill and he saw Professor C was in the classroom. He smiled and gave him a polite nod. "Hello Professor I trust you are well?" I mean it was the first lesson he should be happy to see his students right? |
It was POTIONS time...and with it being one of Gabriel Banner's best subjects, that clearly meant another front row seat. Entering the room with an almost smile on his face, he bypassed most of the people already situated and spoke directly to Professor Culloden. "Hello, Professor." Most...as people like Evie Shacklebolt, Hugh, Zeke Rogers, and Rowan Fields (the strange little redhead who'd given him the gemstone he was still afraid to touch), received a nod of acknowledgement. Was that considered respectful? There were, of course, things he needed to discuss with the Potions Master...but it could wait until after the lesson. Nbd. |
Potions. POTIONS. Now HERE was a lesson he was actually looking forward to. With a smug smile on his face and a small "Heeeeey, Professor Culloden," he said as he entered the classroom and spotted the man. BIG smiles for the favourite professor. He kinda needed to talk to the man about things that were gonna remain private for now. It was a matter of ego and uncertainty and all. Where to sit? Somewhere faaaaaaar away from people he didn't like, which left very few options considering the number of people he liked and got along with. Besides, they were scattered around everywhere so he was BOUND to sit near someone who was gonna annoy him. Jeez, way to make his life difficult. Picking a random seat near the front, Grayson flopped down and took out his things. Ready to learn, yo. |
Evie! WELL would you look at that. Potions looked different. Last time he'd been down here Lafay was the Potions professor and it hadn't been this, er, calm looking. First year potions had been intense, and it had been one of the few memories he'd retained from Hogwarts. Though the one good thing about being slightly frightened at all times was that you rarely messed up your potion, and he wasn't quite so certain that these blue walls would have the same effect. Let's hope Culloden was nicer than Lafay though. He'd heard a little about him from Cutty though, and wanted to see if what he saw was accurate to his friend's descriptions. So far he'd been rather accurate. "Hello Professor, I'm Benzi," he introduced himself with a smile and a nod of his head before turning to the classroom to look for a place to sit. Spotting a few people that he knew, Benzi debated for a few seconds before figuring if he sat by Evie, he'd be relatively close to Noel and they could whisper and things if need be. So, seat by |
Hello :D (and Rusty) Marsha was pretty sure that one of these days she was going to find a class that she didn’t like - but so far, she loved them all. Sure, the Professors were all different and eccentric and she was learning EVERYTHING as she went, but that was what school was all about. But most importantly, she loved every minute of it. Following Rusty into the class, she took the seat next to her dorm and good friend and took a few things out of her bag as she got ready for the class to start. She had no idea what to expect - only that she was nervous and excited all in one. ”Are you okay?” She asked Rusty as her fellow red-headed Gryffindor stayed remarkably quiet. That wasn’t like either of them. Looking to the front of the classroom, the Professor (who’s name she didn’t know yet) got a smile and a wave. Maybe if she was nice right from the get-go he would like her? Who knew, but it was a good thought regardless. |
Quote:
"Oh... yeah... think so. Just wondering about the ingredients..." Had the girl read their textbook? Cause some of it was gross. Poor eyeless beetles and wingless flies, Rusty felt sad for them. |

Potions wasn’t really his subject much to the disappointment of his father who happened to own a very successful potions company. He would have dropped the subject but he was having thoughts of becoming a Healer and knew that one needed to know their potions. Michael also wasn’t one for sitting up the front but he really did need to concentrate in this class. ”Hello Professor.” He gave the man a nod before taking a seat beside Grayson. ”Alright there Whitlock?” They had only talked a few times before he had gone to Durmstrang but the guy seemed okay. And he was Ruby’s boyfriend and Ruby was Zahra’s best friend so it was probably good if they got along. |
SPOILER!!: Maggie Yes, Dante saw Maggie enter the room and wondered if she was going to sit near him. Not that it made a difference. He was wondering what Professor C was going to make them make today. Though he noticed that Maggie was not really paying attention to him or where they were sitting. She was just smirking "Hey and You know, you smirking makes me fear for my life. That's a compliment " It really was. |
Usual desk, yep. Getting all set up, sure. Things being cleaned in preparation for the lesson, absolutely. The only thing missing from Toby's arrival and first few minutes in the class was a greeting for the professor. Not that he meant to be rude or anything, He was just distracted, see. But not sad distracted, just 'mind is almost completely elsewhere' sort of thing. He was basically throwing himself into setting up for the lesson, very much one with his own thoughts, accidentally picking up, cleaning, and setting down the same beaker no less than three times. Thinking. Cleaning. Ready for potioning. Yes right okay. |
Potions. Not Ophelia's best suit, as she always had trouble with direction following, but not her worst either. Certainly not Divination or Transfiguration. Those subjects were rough and tough. Like reading a book the size and shape of a brick within a day. Rough and tough and almost impossible. And yet, there was always that little hope upon hope that one day they would blow something up, or create a spark. Do SOMETHING so fundamentally awesome that it blew the thirteen year old's mind every time she retold it to her family and friends. Have her siblings who graduated wish that they were there in class to do this potion. A potion so monumental that it could only be described through flailing hand gestures. Maybe today would be that day? Or not. There was no telling. Although, the regular mixing of stuff was exciting too. It was kind of like baking, but with magic, and kind of like being a scientist at the same time. She learned about muggle scientists in school, with their sterilized white lab coats and the mixing of chemicals until something smoked or they found a cure for something or some jazz like that. Maybe Ophelia could find a cure for something one day with potions... NAH. That was more Austin's path. The short girl would gladly test the potions, but he was more of the maker of such things. He actually knew what he was doing and could follow directions correctly, unlike some little Ravenclaw they knew *cough cough*. "Hello, Professor." It was a nice day out, what could she say? She was feeling a lot better since she got to Hogwarts, or maybe she was just getting better at ignoring whatever she was suppressing. Either way, something was working and Ophelia couldn't be happier. Which meant everyone got happy, nice Clarke and not annoyed, grumpy Clarke. You did not want the second one. No in the least. Sitting down, she got out her pen and parchment and waited for the class to being, deciding to sketch a little while she did. |
She was late. Well, she wasn't LATE late, but Sophie had a history of getting to class nice and early to claim her spot at the front. So she shouldn't have really been surprised when she walked in when the majority of the classroom was already full, and Lux, Zeke, Norah, Gabe, Grayson, Toussaint, AJ, Cilla, and others were taking up the work stations at the front of the classroom. The cons of being late, but... it was entirely strategic. She hadn't wanted to sit at the front this time. She wanted an excuse to hang in the background and get a good view of everything. But Soph still paused, surveying the classroom at large and taking in the current seating arrangements, before retreating to sit at the VERY back, closest to the door. Just doing her thing. Nothing to see. She DID make eye contact with Culloden just before she started her usual routine of cleaning all of her class materials, and offered him a cheeky grin as her choice of greeting. That's all. Just a grin. It was a suspicious one, really, but... she just kept working on laying out her materials and cleaning the things she typically needed. Super casual and all. |

She stomped her way to the back of the classroom and took up a seat beside Sophie. HOW DARE SOPHIE BE RELEGATED TO THE BACK OF THE ROOM! It was gross and stupid and outrageous and Dot was going to write a very firm letter to the Board of Governors about this. "Goodness. How can you continue being a favorite if you have to sit all the way back here? I can barely see the professor, and he doesn't exactly blend into the background. You want me to go clear out a seat for you among all those brown nosers?" 'Cause she would totally do it. Also, HIIIII, Professor. |
More people were arriving, and Lux sent smiles and waves to Zeke, Brookie, Hady, Ethan, Nat, Norah, Zhenya, Echo, Adi, Kace, Emmy, Abby, Toby, and Cinna. Wow, there were so many people coming to class and that was awesome. Potions was the best, and she couldn't wait to learn something new. Adi's million questions to Culloden caused her to laugh. Gosh, he got so excited like she did. The lesson hadn't even started yet. Cilla took the seat beside her, and Lux sent the younger girl a smile. "Hey there!" She hoped that the Snake had a good summer and was enjoying term so far. Then AJ arrived and took a seat on her other side. Awesome, she always liked talking to her because she had so much spunk and personality. "Hey, AJ!" It was so nice to sit by her friends. |
Prior to this lesson Beverly had been mulling over her mood. It used to not matter what mood she was in but recently it was something she focused on. She hated it. Walking into the potions classroom, though, she smiled at the sight of Professor Culloden at his desk as he greeted the incomers. Okay. Yeah. She was going to miss him when she got out of here. Yep. Ignoring that little feeling, she approached the front desks, setting her bag down and looking over at the man once more. "Hello, Professor Culloden." |

Henric sighed,"Nothing...its just potions class..."he replied, giving her an excuse to hide his own predicament. She was concerned for him, and he felt bad again for not telling her the matter. Henric glanced down at his potions book and started fiddling with the pages. He always had the need to do something with his hands if he had something to hide. |
Finally!! The class she has been waiting for since she came to Hogwarts. P O T I O N S!! The eager fourth year walked into class carrying her things as she tucked a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear. She made a promise to herself that was she was going to stop being anti-social and actually participate in classes, especially the classes she really loved. Seeing the professor she gave a soft smile and said, "Good morning Professor. I hope you had a great summer." and walked to find a seat and set her things down before pulling her hair back in a slightly messy bun and sat back comfortably in her chair waiting for the lesson to start. |
Text Cut: Hi&hello ...he got up and closed the door to indicate they were starting. "Good morning again," he said and smiled as he stood in the middle of the front of the classroom, "for those who don't know me, my name is Cosgrach Culloden. New students can write their names on their desks for me to know them. "Today, we're going to learn a rather interesting type of potions," he said as he started to slowly walk in the aisles and tried to make eye contact with some of them, "This type of potions have a base that can be stored for a long time, and changes its effect according to what you add after creating that base." Wasn't that EXCITING? It meant that the potion could do ANYTHING. Well, in its limits, of course. "What we are going to learn from that type," a short pause here and a geniune show of modesty, "is my own invention. It's a half-dark potion and you should use it responsibly. I'm going to teach how to get someone out of its effect," he said, then paused to build the suspenssssssse, "it changes emotions. It can make you completely sad even though you were crying tears of joy only a moment ago." This was why it was dangerous. "But only that - changing your emotions. With this in mind, can anyone guess why it's considered 'half-dark'? "And, another question before we begin: Can you give an example of someting that can be consumed that induces an emotion? For example, tea of Melissa is used to calm people down." OOC: The class has begun, so please do not post your characters late! Only ONE example per person, please! We'll continue 18-19 hours later. :) |
Toby wasn't sure how long Culloden had been talking for or when the lesson had started, all he knew was that when he looked up again the class was more full and the Potions Master was already teaching. Oop. OKAY. Okay. He was back in the room, focusing, yeah. Except... Mood potions. Emotion potions. Potential commotion. What a notion. Talk of SADNESS and stuff, too. Guh. Instantly Toby was wondering if they were going to have to practice these potions on themselves, because it sort of wasn't a good idea for him to be testing out potions that affected mood, especially ones that might be botched, for reasons. But. He'd cross that bridge when he came to it, yes. For now, the Hufflepuff raised his hand. "Um. Elixir to Induce Euphoria?" he supplied, the biggest, most innocent (but totally not) expression on his face. "Makes people super happy. In the right doses." Heheh. |
Ohhh! They were going to be brewing a complicated potion today, huh? "Really? I am looking FORWARD to it, Professor!'' Bring on the most complicated potions and this Puffer had the patience to brew them ALLLL. Yesh! Adi grinned. "Glad to hear it.'' .................... Adi squinted. "Nats? Is that you?'' He would recognise the anywhere since he had grown accustomed to it though the mumbling made it hard for him to be sure. "Why are you wearing THAT on your face?'' he asked. Was there a start of an airbourne epidemic he had no idea about? :whaa: Oh and hello, AJ! A wave for the girlfriend. .................... The door was shut! WOOT! It was time to get started. Adi settled back with excitement in his seat but then sat forward, totally perked up. What did Culloden just say? Was that what they were going be working on today? SO COOL! Except about the part where the potion changed their emotions. Er.... no thanks. He liked his bubbly self. It sure sounded as though it would have came in handy last year for a particular two weeks. So why was the potion ''It might be because since it can change emotions,'' Adi began, his hand up, "It can bring up reallyyy bad emotions, like rage and can make the person who took the potion do bad stuff. They have no control over what they do and can cause harm to others.'' Oh and as for the other question... "Eating sweets make me happy.'' Mhmm. |
Echo smiled at Professor's Culloden's response, and then he got into what they were learning today, Potions weren't her strongest subject but she was going to try her hardest. She didn't know why it was called "half dark" but she was sure going to give an example of changing of emotions. "Professor, a love potion would do that wouldn't it... make you love someone even though you might not?" hopefully she was right at some point right now as she giggled at the thought of someone using a love potion on her, |
He liked this Professor already since he bowed back to him. Maybe Professor Culloden seemed strict at the first impression but he could be nice, right? Jackson wasn't a judging type of person that judged somebody from his or her first impression. Grabbing a parchment, he wrote down his name there and put it on the desk (though actually he did already introduce himself but... perhaps he forgot his name). Quote:
|
Marsha couldn’t help the large smile that lit up her face as the Professor waved back at her. How cool was that? She smiled happily at him before she turned back to Rusty. ”Aww, its okay Rusty. They are all dead… and if you really don’t want to do anything then I’ll help you.” She said with a smile to her fellow red-head. Oh, they got to make plaque type things again. Quote:
Class time. Yay. As she listened to the man, she leant her chin against one of her palms, drawing into the lesson already. ”I agree with Jackson, I think it’s because you can affect the emotions and actions of the person in ways that uh… you don’t mean too?” Right? Right. Maybe. Heh. Oh! What changes your emotions. ”Professor, one of my uncles mentioned a truth potion? It began with a v… but I can’t remember the name of it. He said that if the user took it they had to tell the truth regardless of it they wanted to tell it or not…” Nibbling her bottom lip, Marsha lowered her hand and let the others in the class give their ideas. |
Lux was always smiling and AJ was glad that she chose a spot beside her. The wide grin the professor gave to Angel did not go unnoticed. What was that about? The man was always happy go lucky, but it seemed like he reserved a special smile for Angel. Hmm... Maybe she would mention to Angel later. There wasn't a need to butter the potions master up in hopes of getting a love potion out of him now that Benny and Angel were dating. What else could it be? No time to ponder because the lesson was starting. Ohhh... a dark potion. This sounded interesting. They hardly ever focused on anything that could be considered dark. You had AJ's attention professor. The lion had to agree with her boyfriend's explanation with the whole emotion thing. It could get ugly really quickly. Everybody was taking her answers for the other question. What else could she add? A smile spread across her face as she thought the Divination lesson she had. Consuming lots of tacos could make you feel panicked because of all the farts that would be trying to escape, buuuuut that probably wasn't what he was looking for. "Don't oranges make you feel less stressed because of the vitamin C or something?" was vitamin C related to helping stress in any way, shape or form? AJ had no idea, but it sure sounded good. |
SPOILER!!: Cossy! <3 . . Well, then. Gabriel glanced carefully at certain people and then back at Professor Culloden. It was neat they were going to be learning something that he'd concocted himself...To the Ravenclaw, that was the absolute best thing...but he'd have been lying if he said he wasn't slightly uncomfortable at the moment. Not on a grand scale...but Gabe's emotions were mostly a mess as it was. Artificial emotions were already a very real thing here. "...because emotional manipulation is one of the most dangerous things a person can be submitted to."...In the sense that...if you wanted someone to truly suffer, damage them emotionally. Those marks were felt much deeper than physical wounds...and for a much longer period of time. Speaking from personal experience. . . "...There's a potion made with Alihotsy leaves that will induce hysteria...Actually, just the leaves themselves would have the same effect..." ...and Gabe visibly CRINGED at the love potion mention. VISIBLY. Maybe he'd publish a PSA. Soon. |
Oh. Oh. Professor Culloden noticed, apparently. Weeeelll then, so much for being invisible. Norah neglected to consider the fact that her bright purple trainers with the sparkly laces made it essentially impossible to be invisible, because she was far too busy listening to the Professor LAUGH at her. LAUGH. He LAUGHED. She considered sticking her tongue out at him but she LIKED him (and she'd probably get kicked out or something but that was a whole nother story), so she instead saluted him and said, "At least crawled instead of cartwheeling." At least this showed she had a BRAIN and stuff, 'cause cartwheeling in the potions classroom was probably one of the worst ideas ever, right after vegetable-flavored ice cream. She sure hoped nobody's even invented that. She dipped her quill in ink and wrote 'PROFESSOR CULLODEN'S SUPER COOL FANCY SHMANCY POTION STUFF' on the top of her parchment with a flourish. Alrighty, she was SO ready. The fourth year surrounded her notes with some little ink flowers as she tried to come up with a good answer. There was no use embarrassing herself in Potions, Professor Culloden was way too cool for that. "I guess it's half dark because if you do bad things to somebodies emotions it'd be really really bad. Like if you gave somebody a potion that made them sad all the time it'd be completely horrid 'cause imagine being sad all the time! Everything would be terrible. So yeah, not very nice." She shrugged again, but her wand was safely NOT behind her ear now so there wasn't any dropping or crawling. So there. "And I think there are potions that make you have a restful sleep, and I know sleeping isn't an emotion probably but I think you have to get pretty un-worried to sleep restfully and if worried is an emotion then un-worried is too." It was only fair....if worried even was an emotion which according to Norah it was. |
Kace heard the door slam and man things were getting real. The lesson was starting and he heard Professor Culloden giving them an inside scoop on the lesson. He heard they were learning about a half-dark potion? Interesting concept. Culloden wanted to know why it was considered half dark. I mean I guess Kace can give a guess right? "Erm Professor I think it is considered half- dark because the concept of changing someone's emotions is kind of a cruel thing in my opinion like Gabe said.." he said referring the Ravenclaw Prefect. They were on the same page. Now onto examples. Kace already had one up his sleeve. He raised his hand and answered the second question, "Professor I know there is Calming Draught which is a potion that can calm shock, trauma and such. Shock can be an emotion like fear." I mean it made sense right? Let's see if the puffanova was right. |
They wouldn't actually have to test this potion on themselves or a partner would they? Hady wasn't so sure she'd enjoy that part cause what if it made a friend really upset or angry or something? She knew it would only be the effects of the potion but still she wasn't to fond of the thought. Making the potion she didn't have any problem with doing. Shifting about in her seat she sat up and listened silently as those around her began to give their answers. "Maybe since it changes emotions it can make someone act or say things they normally wouldn't and depending on the situation that might end up being a really bad thing." She answered as she lifted her hand into the air. It might not have been the clearest of answers but yeah it was all she had. "I think there's a potion called Peaceful Draught or something similar to that but it helps people with anxiety." That one would probably be rather useful at times. |
Oh.... She noticed the smile disappear. Opps, right away she knew why the smile had disappeared. Sticking to Professor C then. Right. That was cool right? She knew other students called him that. She shot him a innocent little smile. Not like he'd believe it. No one did anymore. Hehe. Hummm she made a mental note of this and shrugged it off. Then headed off to a seat. Ahhh everyone was here and class was starting now. She listened to the professor. Interesting, she tilted her head curiously as Culloden explained the lesson. Things to induce emotion. She smiled at Echo's answer the girl was so smart for a second year. "Hate potions. It's basically the opposite of a love potion. It changes your emotions to hate instead of love. So yeah." |
The door closed, which meant the class was officially starting. And the blonde might have been getting a tiny bit excited, if only because they got to mix stuff up and always learned cool things in here. This wasn't a boring class, was what she was saying. And if she learned to be patient and follow directions, Ophelia might even find herself being good at the material. A Professor-made potion? Okay, this was interesting already. This was the first time the blonde remembered doing a professor made potion in all of her three years at Hogwarts, which made her wonder what the special occasion actually was. Did he just want to show off his potion making prowess, or did he have an ulterior motive. She was watching you Professor. Upon hearing the question, the thirteen year old sat back in her chair and thought. This was a deep question for early in the class. Though it wasn't a tough one. Just deep. Like meaning of life deep. Listening to her classmates form their answers, the grey eyed girl formulated one of her own between the headmuck that surrounded her brain. RAISE HAND. "Like the other two said (Kace and Gabe) messing with a person's emotions is kind of cruel. It's like messing with who they are, really. And like, what if there was a person who wanted to get someone mad at someone else. They could break up a friendship or a relationship or something. It's manipulation." Not to mention the fact that the next step Ophelia saw this going was violence. Manipulate a bunch of people and get them angry and there was no telling what would happen next! The short girl shuddered just thinking about the consequences. Wait, now she had a question. A question in response to his question? Or was she tacking the question onto her own question. Sigh. RAISE HAND. "Professor, why is it only called a HALF-dark potion. Everyone keeps saying bad stuff that can happen, is there any good to a potion that just does awful things?" Now Ophelia was getting deeeep. Meaning of life deep. BAM. Look who was doing awesome in potions class. And about any other drinks that can change emotions, she had no clue. So after the question, she remained quiet and continued to listen to her classmates answers. |
Torie beamed at the professor when he waved back, and waited for class to begin. He listened as students answered the question but thought on his own answer waiting for his turn and raised his hand "My mum always chocolate is good for calming." he said brightly. Well it was, and it was nommy too! He liked chocolate though he never really noticed if it did anything to calm him. He thought it made him a bit more hyper. He took his quill though and moved to write his name on the desk 'Torie Yenorin, 1st year'. |
Angel got a smile and a wink, now that was weird... had she done something wrong, she was a bit scared now... maybe the Professor could read minds and realised that she had skipped a lesson last year because she was just bored and didn't want to come, now that would be scary but she was here now right and that was just as good as coming last year right. "Eh!" Angel raised her hand whilst she was still trying to figure out what the wink and crazy smile was about. "Eh doesn't honey supposed to make you feel relax because that is why people give you honey tea when you get stressed out." |
These questions were hard. Zahra tried though, thinking with GUSTO and looking as if the process actually physically hurt her. She finally raised her hand. "I don't know if this is what you're asking for...," but she was giving it a try anyway, "but Mum is a HUGE believer in lavender. She says it make the "Most Moodiest of Mondays" all better or something. She's got a whole garden of or it something. Sometimes my Pig gets in it and takes a nap." ...hehe. ALSO HEY PROFESSOR POTIONS. LOOK WHO IS BACK! She griiiiiiiiiiiinned at the Professor. She ALSO was smart enough to not actually sit with her LONG LOST NEWLY RETURNED BOYFRIEND. Wisdom with age, right here. |
Natalia raised an eyebrow at the way Adi squinted at her as if she was... a strange creature he had ever seen before. "Yes," Natalia muttered, her lips brushing against the soft material of the mask that muffled her voice. "it is I, the Incredible Natalia." The fourth year announced softly in her most authentic Eastern European accent. "This-" Natalia pointed to her lovely face mask, which was, sadly, hindering her speech. Irritated by the hindrance, she finally pulled her mask down (not off, just down below her mouth) so she could enunciate better. "This," Natalia repeated, "is a 'surgical' face mask, though it's not really for medical purposes. It's actually more like designer fashion back in China." Except wearing it for aesthetic purposes wasn't the reason why she wore it today. Before Natalia could take another breath, class had begun. What could change emotions? EASY. Forgetting that she still had her face mask down to her chin (but away from her mouth), Natalia raised her hand as she thought she had the PERFECT example. "Chocolate has euphoric effects!" With a beam, Natalia began to daydream about all kinds of chocolate: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, COCONUT CHOCOLATE... Soon enough, the Lioness had forgotten all about class and drifted herself into Cocoa-land... With her face mask dangling about her chin and eyes wandering around the classroom, Natalia appeared to be in a state of euphoria just from thinking about chocolate. |
The lesson started, and Lux thought it was adorable how happy Culloden was. Awww, that baby high didn't seem to be going away and she was more than fine with it. Smiling to herself, she opened her notebook to a new page as she listened to the explaination of what they would be doing today. Sounded pretty interesting though she wasn't sure how she felt about something considered to be half-dark. Changing emotions wasn't always a good thing, and she raised her hand to answer the questions. "I think it is considered to be half-dark because changing someone's emotions can be a dangerous thing. People can do terrible things when driven by emotions - things they wouldn't normally do." Did that make sense? Sometimes Lux had a little difficulty articulating her thoughts. Anyway, moving on to the next question. "Elixir to Induce Euphoria causes a person to feel really happy." That was a NICE emotion to induce, which is why she chose it as an example. |
...half dark? This was already a running theme in the lessons it seemed, and Rowan didn't have an answer for that question, because she didn't really understand dark magic yet... Or whether there were any specific definitions. The next one though, she knew a lot about. Her hand shot up, only narrowly missing Marsha's face. "Professor, ecinacea is a herbal remedy for anxiety and stress." Yep. They had things in their herbal remedy cabinet back home like that. |
Well Dante did remember that potion they did last year. About the confidence and such. But Dante did not know if that was a emotion or not. Well it was the only thing he had. So might as well say it. "Well there was that potion last year with arrogance and self confidence. I forgot the name of it though" It is on the tip of his tongue. |
Ooh a rather INTERESTING potion? That got Zhenya's spine itching to start brewing it. How great, though, a potion whose base could be stored for a long time. Saves people making up a base every time they needed a potion requiring the base. Especially as Zhenya was looking at a career as a healer once she left Hogwarts, in mere months, these things would totally help her. But even better - Professor Culloden's OWN inventions! Wicked! Wooooooow though, emotion changer. She could see when that would be useful, so long as they could control the emotion they were changing. Or was it just opposites? Zhenya raised her hand and waited for Professor Culloden to call on her. "Professor it's perhaps called half-dark as it's manipulating ones emotions." That was definitely bad, if someone else was doing that. How easy would it be to just slip some potion into a cup of tea and give it to someone else? "Sir, does the potion change the drinkers emotion to an opposite emotion, or is there some way of choosing the emotion?" Her brain was itching to know. But an example of something that can be consumed to induce an emotion? She had a thought, a few things rushed to her mind but every time she went to suggest them, someone would get to it. Hmm… She raised her hand again, "Er… poppy seeds were once used as pain relief, and can induce a state of euphoria." |
Half-dark? How could something be HALF dark? In Caleb's mind, you were good or bad...no real gray area there, especially when it came to curses and potions. It was either dark magic, or just normal magic used for good. But half-dark? Was that even possible? He ventured a guess. Hand in the air, he cleared his throat. "Erm, could it be considered half-dark since it can obviously be abused? And used for dark purposes?" he suggested. Although then, didn't that mean EVERYTHING could be half-dark? Gah this was confusing. "And wouldn't a love potion manipulate someone's emotion? Even though it's not real," he explained. |
Oh this was going to be interesting. They were going to learn about Professor Culloden's original potion. But why was it considered half-dark? That was the question. Janelle thought about it for a moment and then raised her hand. "Maybe it's half-dark because when you start playing with people's emotions, you might be able to control them.......and if you control them, you can do bad things to them or get them to do bad things." That was her thought anyway. As for the second question, well that answer didn't come to Janelle so easily. She wasn't sure whether the Professor was looking for something magical or non-magical for an answer. Her classmates had given both types of answers, but Janelle couldn't think of anything that hadn't already been said. She decided to pass on the second question, unless she had a sudden spark of inspiration. |
As Professor Culloden had addressed her, Brooklyn had sat up even straighter. Even though she’d noticed Lux’s wave earlier, it had gotten forgotten with the start of class, and she’d sat there focused on the discussion. She hadn’t seen the need to scribble down any notes yet, since so far they hadn’t really seemed like they’d discussed the exact potion they were going to be brewing. Just concepts, and she didn’t particularly care about concepts. She still raised her hand as others had offered their suggestions as to the questions that had been posed. “I would think it’d be half-dark because when someone’s emotions aren’t their own, they can do things they wouldn’t normally do.” Like hug people. “And they also could be made to do things they wouldn’t normally do, by someone else. Bad things, even.” Not that she cared about what was considered bad or good. If it benefited her, she wanted it. “Oh, and camomile can be used to calm people down. Some Muggles drink chamomile tea to help them fall asleep.” There. She’d participated. |
Being in the back of the classroom was really terrible, and Dot could barely see and stupid big hairdos were getting between her and the world. She crawled up on her chair so better see over top of people and waved her hand around just in case Mr. Professor Sir couldn't see her. Y'know? The ginger in the back? "Isn't any sub-subversion of the will a no-no? That's the whole thing about the Imperius Curse, right? So forcing someone to feel something is subverting their will, in a way. And it's rotten, because if you make them feel love or joy or sadness, then you can control how they react to things and shape their actions and... it's just bad." So says Dot. She looked to Sophie to verify that she'd used the word 'subvert' right, though. Right? |
Culloden dealt in half-dark things? Oooh. If he already had Beverly's attention, he wasn't losing it even another troll came knocking at their door. And it dealt with emotions. Beverly somewhat thought that over, considered things, then thought some more. "Emotion can be enough incentive to get someone to do something they wouldn't normally with a clear head," she said raising her hand. "It's a form of manipulation and many consider that dark." M'hm, m'hm. |

Hugh had been paying attention, truly, but then he started thinking about the implications of half-dark as an ideal and he was gone. His thoughts were with the big questions of existence and the soul's capacity for darkness as a human flaw. Any thought. Any attempt he would have made to answer the question got flushed down the toilet. He was in Hugh!Space. |
The Professor was speaking and Michael was listening and even writing down things the man was saying. He could be so studious when he wanted to. They were going to make a potion to mess with people's emotions? Oh he could see this class going down hill fast. He raised his hand to answer the questions. "It's most likely half dark because you are messing with people's emotions. Controlling them for your own benefit." Which was so not a good thing. "There is the Essence of Insanity." He hoped they weren't making a version of that. |
HALF-DARK POTIONS??? That's the only part that caught Evie's attention and she had to slow her brain down to catch the rest of what Culloden was saying. So, they were making a potion base that could control people's emotions and whatever you add to the base was what determined what emotion they would control. Wicked. Literally, wicked. She saw why it was half-dark. But only half? Evie raised her hand. "Professor, I feel like it could really be completely dark, because you're taking away the person's ability to control their own emotions. It seems like the Imperius Curse in a way. Which is... dark." In case he wasn't aware. |
SPOILER!!: Sad Henric Henric's sigh and answer, were not selling Ilia on the fact that he was this depressed over potions class. She didn't want to call him out on it and make him more upset, especially since the professor for this class seemed very nice....albeit staring at her for an awfully long time in her opinion. Almost like she had three heads or something, though she supposed maybe a new older student was unexpected. Looking Henric over to see if she could find the problem, she sighed a little. "Well, if potions isn't a good subject for you......I can help you." If he wasn't going to tell her about it now, maybe he would later. "I'm pretty decent at potions." Or rather, she used to get good marks in it at her old school, hopefully that would continue here in her new one. She gently poked his shoulder, trying to ease him out of his funk and be affectionate. She smiled at him and started preparing herself for the lesson. ---------------------------------- When the professor greeted them all again as a whole, then indicated to write their names down, Ilia silently obeyed. She wrote her name in as pretty of a script as she could manage and displayed it where Professor Culloden could easily see it. Quote:
As for other mood changers, there were a few that other students had already listed so, how about......"Roses? The smell alone of the flower can ease stress and uplift the spirits. It can also be made into a tea or tincture for consumption, which has the same effect and an added vitamin c boost." It was also good for her skin and made a really nice perfume to help keep her spirits high. She enjoyed potions and hopefully she didn't just talk her new professor's ear off........ |
Innocent. Innocent, she was. At Culloden's LOOK her way, Sophie just CHEESED away with the biggest and best and overly angelic smile she could muster. JUST SITTING BACK HERE WITH HER BEST FRIEND DOT. NOTHING TO SEE HERE. The girl in question got a side-hug of greeting - Sophie was always happy to see her, and she was very glad they were potions buddies. "We're making him realize how awful it is that we're all the way back here," Sophie talked so quietly to Dot that it was barely even a whisper. "Maybe he'll let us engrave our names into the desks into our usual table so they're reserved for us and we'll be extra special favorites from now on." There was a pause, and then she added, even quieter yet, "Plus, from the back, we can see everyone who needs help. Then we can gobble up all those house points for helping them. We're playing the system." There was an ounce of Slytherin in the mind of this Ravenclaw. Also, in a cheeky sort of manner, Sophie Brown absolutely wrote her name to place on her desk so Culloden would know who she was. Hilarious, really. Or... at least she thought she was. When he went into his meandering the aisles and talking about today's lesson, Sophie's eyebrows raised, and she gave Dot a curious look. One of HIS own inventions? This was a very interesting concept for a potion, and she considered why it was considered half-dark and... well, people were all over examples of things that could induce an emotion upon consumption. Actually, lots of people had opinions on BOTH questions posed, and Sophie just... y'know. Sat there. In the back. Unnoticed and she was kind of digging it. When she was at the FRONT, everyone was LOOKING at her and expected her to answer. But here... well, here, no one would notice if she didn't answer a question, right? Except for Dot. Culloden would probably forget she was even there, too, for the time being. So... ...She tried. She tried SO hard to just blend in to the background, but after hearing loads of people give their opinions on the "half-dark" thing, Sophie Brown couldn't help it. Her hand shot up. "I agree with DOT." Because the kid's answer deserved to SHINE in the midst of all the others. YEP. THAT WAS IT. Her grand statement. GOTTA SUPPORT HER POTIONS BUDDY. |
Brian blinked at the man, shaking his head incomprehensively. Why would you name something half-dark? Unless you were talking about how the physical colour of the potion was half dark and half light, which made about zero sense. Nothing magical really did, though. Make sense. Anyway, since anything goes in the wizarding world, maybe he'd make a chance at it. Oh, and a potion to induce an emotion. Would a feeling count? Raising his hand, he made an attempt at answering. If it acquired him house points, he was ALL for it. "Is it half-dark because it doesn't alter all of your emotions but kinda leaves maybe half of your true emotions there as an anchor? It sounds confusing, though, having conflicting emotions. Is the real set of emotions just dormant? If that's even how it works." And he would shut up now, before he made a further fool of himself in front of the whole potions class. "Oh, and fatiguing infusion makes you really, really tired." There. Now, he was done. |
He could tell already that the lesson was going to be FASCINATING, but then again, when was Potions not? It was perhaps his favourite subjects, alongside DADA and Charms. At first he simply sat quietly, peering over at those who volunteered answers to the questions asked. Half-dark... that was interesting, and a lot of what everyone was saying made sense, especially - he thought - what Dot had said. There was no need for him to say much more to that, so he simply nodded to show his support for what had been stated. Elixir to induce Euphoria would have been his first pick, but Toby said it first, stupid love potions would have been his second, but that too was covered, "A calming draught?" he offered, his hand raised. It DID change an emotion... so... yeah. |
Leah was just She looked up and listened to the Professor's explanation. Oooh, it seemed like an very interesting type of potions. You could add any ingredient to the base and it would change its effect accordingly. AND they were learning Culloden's own invention! A half-dark emotion-changing potion. After some thinking, the Hufflepuff raised her hand. "Like you said, you could be really sad and really happy almost simultaneously, which is half bad half good. Hence half-dark." LOGIC. "The Vitamix? Potion gives you energy. Energy leads to confidence and courage," she continued. Some people in this class looked like they needed energy at the moment. |
Culloden’s invention? Ooooh. It didn’t take long for him to get more excited about Potions. The teenager quickly got his self inking quill and waited for...well, he was waiting for Culloden’s answer to his question. He said it was his invention, so he wasn’t going to waste his parchment on his classmate’s educated guess, no matter how brilliant their answers were. He did agree with most of them though, as he nodded along. Half-dark...or dark if the intention of manipulating someone’s emotion is solely for an evil deed. Well, that was a no brainer, really. The other half though... |
Text Cut: A few people here Text Cut: Another group of people Text Cut: 'The other half' people Text Cut: Questions Once everyone got a chance to answer, Cosgrach walked to the front of the classroom again to be able to see them all and he said "Almost all of you focused on why it was 'half dark'," he said, "and all of you are right: It changes how a person is feeling against their will. It manipulates people, and can have awful consequences in the wrong hands." He paused, and started to walk in the aisles again. "Ophelia asked why it was only half dark," he said as he kept walking slowly, "and Evie said it should be considered fully dark, because it takes away the person's ability to control their own emotions. She said it even seems like the Imperius Curse in a way. While it does sound like Imperius Curse, it is different in a fundamental way: Imperius allows you to control people. However, this potion only alters the mood. It doesn't give you any control over how a person behaves. You just get to decide how they'll feel, and what they will do afterwards is still up to them. To give an example: if a person is a coward, making them angry won't give them courage to, for example, curse someone more powerful than them. They'll still be a coward, only an angry one. Yes, they may cause damage, but they also may not." Did it make sense? "Another reason it is not fully dark is the intent, as Ilia," hopefully that was her name, "put it. You can make someone sad, but you can also make them happy." It was completely up to the intent. Yes, there were other potions for that, there was THIS one too, and the ingredients were rather common. "So, to sum up: it's only half dark, because it only changes the emotions and doesn't give the brewer any control of the actions. It also depends on intent and which emotion you create." He paused to let them write that. "It's a base potion, meaning the base can be stored for a long time - about a year, and the final effect depends on what you add last. While under effect, the person will feel only the potion created by this, and any other emotion will be forgotten. So, in a way it's different and superior to Imperius Curse: you can't fight this. The best you can do is shorten its effect if you have an iron will. "There are six basic emotions, and this potion creates them: Happiness, sadness, excitement, fear, tenderness and anger. The name is pretty straight-forward:" He wasn't creative when it came to names, okay?, "Emotional Change Potion." He tapped his wand on the blackboard, and the ingredients with the first few steps appeared. Quote:
He sat down on his chair to watch them. OOC: I'll post |
Emotional Change Potion. Natalia would definitely be able to remember that name well; as long as it wasn't Latin, she would have no trouble remembering. Undoubtedly, the potion sounded awfully useful. The problem for Natalia was: she would rather just purchase these magical concoctions, so she was never really a motivated potions student. Happiness, sadness, excitement, fear, tenderness...and anger? Why would anyone wish to provoke another's anger? What was the benefit? To avenge someone? Oh wait, that justification didn't sound so bad, actually. Natalia went on to daydream what type of emotion she would like to induce on someone else. Hmm... perhaps Natalia should use the tender emotional change potion on her young brother, so that little rascal would finally stop pestering and irritating his older sister. Wouldn't it be nice to have a gentle little brother? As she was visualizing all the assets of these potions, Natalia had almost forgotten about the directions that the professor gave to the class. Right, right. Practice the spell. But before that, Natalia quickly pulled her face mask back on over her nose and mouth. If they were going to start brewing soon, she'd want to be 'protected'. As soon as Natalia grabbed out her wand, she had forgotten the incantation that went along with this potion. "Ermm..." The fourth-year's self consciousness prevented her from making a fool out of herself. Instead, she pretended to be muttering the incantation under her breath by moving her lips but not speaking. After a couple of tries, Natalia looked up and noticed the directions painted black and white on the blackboard. *FACEPALM* After a silent period of mentally whacking herself, Natalia preceded to mutter the actual spell. "Ap-toh Pres-soo-rah." Again, more fluently. "Apto Pressura." Done! Now, moving on to the wand movement. Natalia held out her wand in front of her, reading the instructions left on the board. So draw a straight line... done! |
Ehhhhhh. Zahra wasn't going to wave her wand around in this class. It never really worked for her anyway. So she looked busy for a bit, washed her hands again, and sprinkled her desk with water droplets. She drew out a BIG heart on the desk using the water and put M.T. in the center. Hehe. <3 Boyfriend. La la la just biding her time. Zahra could throw potion parts in a cauldron; she could not... get charms. So she'd just wait and skip that part. |
Question ..... Okay, so Rowan was so so so interested in all of this. She thought it was really cool that potions could do things like that, but she absolutely didn't ever want to meddle with people's emotions quite so drastically. A helping hand here and there was fine, but that was... well... she wasn't convinced about it. She swung her legs from the bench as she listened to the class and watched things unfold, but then the ingredients appeared on the blackboard, and it felt like her heart had dropped into her stomach... "Um... professor?" Rowan raised her hand. "Is there any way to make it without using the newt larvae..?" she asked, hoping really hard that there was... because she didn't want to miss out on something just because she didn't want to use animals. |
Listening to Professor Culloden, Lux made a careful note of everything he said. Of course she had guessed the reason why this potion was half-dark, but it was nice to hear confirmation because it showed that she was actually learning. When it came to potions she was nowhere near an expert and she honestly didn't expect to be for a while. As the first part of the recipe appeared on the board, Lux recorded everything in her notes. She would strive to go down the 'happiness' route as much as possible when it came to this potion, but 'excitement' sounded pretty awesome too. She wasn't keen on inducing emotions, but good ones were better than bad at least. Carefully she removed her equipment and potions ingredients from her bag and gave everything a thorough cleaning with Scourgify. After donning clean gloves, her cauldron was then filled halfway with pure water. Now on to the spell! "Ap-toh press-soo-rah." Haha, wow. That sounded weird when enunciated slowly, but she was trying to mimic Professor Culloden until she got the hang of it. "Ap-toh press-soo-rah... Ap-toh press-soo-rah... Ap-toh press-soo-rah..." And now all together. "Apto pressura... Apto pressura..." To practice the wand movement, Lux raised her wand then SLOWLY lowered it as if she was drawing a straight and vertical line. Repeating the motion a few times, she was then ready to perform the spell on her potion. "Apto pressura." As she spoke, she drew another vertical line. SPOILER!!: Lux's Notes |
Ahh, cool! Zhenya smiled to herself. The potion suddenly seemed much more wicked than before. If they couldn't control the emotion then it would be almost like a prank. Not knowing. But controlling it, perhaps by the finishing touch? Was a bit more sinister. Especially the scary fact of... there was no fighting off the effects. She dipped her quill into the ink and wrote the instructions so far onto a piece of parchment. SPOILER!!: Parchment So the first step was to practice the spell, which was fair enough. Practice makes perfect. Zhenya always tried to practice the incantation, then the wand movement before adding it together. Just her way, she felt safe doing it. So she pulled her wand out of her robes and put it on her desk in front of her. She had written down the pronunciation on her parchment next to the spell, and she said it out loud a few times. "Ap-toh press-soo-rah. Ap-toh press-soo-rah. Ap-toh press-soo-rah," before she felt like the words were comfortable in her mouth. Next she lifted her want, remembering the movement was a slow vertical line. She did it a few times before she felt pretty comfortable with it. Her cauldron was sitting on her desk and she pulled it closer, and obviously needed to clean it. Just to be safe. "Scourgify," she said, performing the S-shaped wand movement. Next was the water. Fill half way with pure water. "Aguamenti," she said, performing the sideways-S-shaped wand movement, and filling it only until it was half full. Okay, so that was done. Now she had to perform the spell on her potion. Easy, right? Hopefully. "Ap-toh press-soo-rah," she said, drawing the vertical line down. Professor Culloden hadn't said anything about heating the potion just yet, so she put her wand back on the table next to her and had a thought about what potion she wanted to try. She partly wanted to try the fear potion, but that was mean. She would only do that if she were to use it on herself, but she had remembered a previous lesson where she worked with Jasmine. That was... a LOT OF FUN! Except for the vomiting part. So she decided to go with Excitement. |
He was right! He was right! He was right!... Of course he was right, he was a potioneering genius. Listening and taking notes as he went, Zeke copied down bits of what Professor Culloden had said, in addition to the notes and instructions on the board. This was going to be SO exciting, and already he was having a difficult time choosing which emotion he wanted to create. He was leaning toward fear though, because fear could be easily manipulated which could prove to be very useful. The first thing he did was clean his cauldron, his hands he had already done and were gloved too for extra cleanliness. DUST could be anywhere. "Scourgify," he stated clearly whilst performing the wand movement. With that done, now all he had to do was fill it half way with... pure water. PURE water? Was that any different to... water water? Deciding that magic water was pure enough, her performed "Aguamenti," and stopped when his cauldron was filled halfway. Success! But next came spell work... Wand on his workbench, Zeke tested out the incantation. "Ap-toh press-soo-rah," he stated slowly, "ap-toh press-soo-rah," he tried again.. and again... until, "apto pressure," he was stating it clearly and fluently. The wand movement was easy enough, but he practiced it twice nonetheless. A straight vertical line. Performing the spell, Zeke repeated the incantation, " Apto pressure," accompanied with the vertical line wand movement. He assumed he was successful. With the flame lit under his cauldron, and a cleaned thermometer dipping into the water, he waited for it to reach 100 degrees, and when it did he was pleased to see it wasn't actually boiling - by visual standards at least. Excellent. What was next? |
Man. Mikey Toussaint. MAN! How long had it been since he'd since this guy? Too freaking long. Dude was glad that the guy was back, partly because he rather enjoyed their small hanging out moments and partly because Durmstrang had lost a cool dude. Haha suckers! And he was sitting next to him? Even better. Grayson gave the guy a wink and would have said even more had it not been for the fact that Culloden had started speaking. Not wanting to interrupt the Professor, the Slytherin didn't say anything else but he DID mentally claim a moment to catch up with the guy so that he could ask him some questions about a certain piercing. Lolol. The Slytherin didn't answer the first two questions, instead opting to take as many notes as possible. It was kinda an interesting potion and all, given the effects. Grayson wanted to see it in action, just not on someone he cared about. How about the people he hated as much as he hated exams? Perfect. Potion making time? Freaking YES. The first step was simple enough since the seventeen year old had done it so many times that it was almost second nature to him. So, taking out his wand, he pointed it at the inside of his cauldron and said, "Scourgify!" clean to his standards? You bet! Next step included practising a new spell so Grayson put his wand down on his desk. Practice first and all. "Ap-toh pres-soo-rah! Ap-toh press-soo-rah! Ap-toh press-soo-rah." On and on the chant continued until he was almost tired of hearing his own voice. Almost. He had a great voice, you know. The wand movement practise came a lot easier since it was just drawing a line in the air. Slowly. That was practised as well, of course. When he was confident enough with the spell -- which didn't take long since he was a very confident guy already -- the boy moved on to performing it itself. "Apto Pressura!" he called, drawing a vertical line in the air. It was hard to know now whether he'd gotten the spell right so he went ahead and started turning up the heat of the water. 100 degrees Celsius. Was it boiling? No? GOOD. That was what he liked to see. Now he just needed to keep it at this temperature. Text Cut: Journal |
SPOILER!!: Janelle's Notes Janelle took notes as the Professor spoke. She was careful to write down the details of the potion that they would be brewing. Once she was finished writing, Janelle set to work. First she gathered her equipment and began to clean it. She saved her cauldron for last and waved her wand, sending a big "Scourgify" in its direction. Now it was time to practice the spell. Janelle started with the incantation, as usual. She was careful to say it slowly and precisely at first. "Ap-toh-press-soo-rah, Ap-toh press-soo-rah, Apto pressura." When Janelle was comfortable with the words, she went on to practice the wand movement. Lifting her wand, Janelle made a vertical line making sure to keep it straight from top to bottom. She repeated the movement several times and then she felt ready to try it for real. First though, she had to start her potion. Janelle took her wand and held it over her cauldron. "Aguamenti", she said as the water flowed from the tip of her wand into the cauldron. When it was half way full, she said, "Finite". Then Janelle took a deep breath. She made another vertical line with her wand and this time said, "Apto pressura" simultaneously. Janelle hoped tha she had done the spell correctly. She guessed that she would know soon enough. Reaching down, she temperature at 100 degrees celcius and waited. She had to get this spell right. |
As Zhenya was watching her potion, she realised with a start that she hadn't actually started heating her potion. DUH! She smacked her hand to her forehead, started a fire underneath the cauldron and waited waited waited. "Scourgify," she said, pointing her wand at her thermometer and doing the wand movement. Clean is good, yes? She put the thermometer into the cauldron and watched as the reading went up... up... up... 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, and NOT BOILING! YAY! No bubbles or anything. |
Being this far back in the room led Dot to the conclusion that no one cared what they did. Like... if she didn't clean her supplies before they started, could Culloden somehow tell from way up there? Sophie would probably notice... and, okay, so Dot cared about the quality of her potion. Whatever. "He said I gave a good answer," Dot informed Sophie as if she hadn't just been there the whole time. Cleaning her cauldron was short work, as Dot swished her wand and said, "Scourgify." Another quick spell on her stirring sticks, her mortar and pestle, and her little knife. All clean! Even if the only person that pleased was Dot herself. And maybe Sophie. Now to fill the cauldron. She measured the halfway point with her thumb and carefully filled the cauldron with water from her wand. Right.. up... to... the bottom of her thumb. Perfect. It was too bad the potion steps weren't all this easy, especially with spellcasting required as the next part. She wasn't bad at spells, but she was much better at potions. Best get at it. Dot raised her wand and drew a vertical line straight from around her nose to her sternum, directly over the cauldron. "Apto pressure." Was she supposed to be able to tell that something had happened? It applied pressure on the water to keep it from boiling, but the water wasn't hot at all yet. Tricky as the spell-casting was... she actually thought the next part seemed ever harder. Dot cleaned her tiny thermometer as she gave the cauldron dubious looks. One hundred degrees Celsius was so precise, and she had to somehow maintain the temperature exactly? Dot lit a flame under the cauldron and stuck her thermometer into the water. Come on now... time to heat up. |
Kyroh was paying attention. He really was, emotions, six, special sort of dark potion, Culloden's own creation. How could he not pay attention to his favourite Professor? He was just occupied. By hugs. With his cauldron. And then the desk. HE HAD MISSED THIS CLASSROOM AND POTIONS SO MUCH OKAY?! |
After Cilla wrote down the notes, she decided to practice the incantation. She muttered under her breath, "Ap-toh press-soo-rah, Ap-toh press-soo-rah, Apto pressura." She then picked up her wand and carefully drew a downwards vertical line a few times until she felt confident. Cilla took out her potions equipment and used the cleaning spell to make sure they were fit for use. Cilla donned her now clean gloves and pointed her wand in her cauldron and said, "Scourgify." Now her cauldron was nice and clean so she placed her clean thermometer in the cauldron before filling it halfway with water using, "Aguamenti," until the cauldron was half-full before saying, "Finite." She then lit a fire underneath the cauldron. Cilla then made the vertical movement with her wand as she said, "Apto pressura." She carefully looked at her thermometer and much to her relief, the temperature had not exceeded 100 degrees Celsius and it wasn't boiling. SPOILER!!: Cilla's Potions Notes |
