Seeing the Professor remove her earmuffs, Lux figured that it was safe for her to do the same. She let them hand around her neck for the moment as she took a good look at the dead Mandrake. Poor thing looked really bad. Lux was reminded of the lessons where they learned about diseased plants. She would make sure to take much better care of hers so that didn't happen to it. There was no way that she would let a dead plant happen on her watch. With a marker she wrote 'Lux Carrington' on her pot so that she would be able to tell which one was hers. After giving the Mandrake a gentle pat she began packing away her stuff and cleaning the work space. "Thanks for the lesson, Headmistress!" she said as she exited the greenhouse. |
..... They were going to be taking care of the same mandrake all year??? Well firstly, THANK MERLIN he had only repotted one. Secondly, WHY MANDRAKES? Couldn't they have done something that oh, y'know, didn't cry and scream and bite and throw fits? Man. Zander was about to throw one himself. Not that he would... Especially not in front of the Headmistress, but he didn't fancy the idea of taking care of this plant after the countless finger nibbles it graced him with. That being said, he looked over a Sophie to see how she was taking the news. Giving her a look to convey how he wasn't looking forward to this whole mandrake thing. Then, he went ahead and grabbed a marker to go ahead and label his pot. And NOPE he wasn't going to stick around for questions, thankyouverymuch. But he'd stick around long enough so that Soph could finish up before he left the greenhouse. That way they could walk back to he castle together. "Ready?" |
Adi kept his focus on Truebridge as he watched her cast a spell on the pots and waiting for her to give the okay for them to take the earmuffs off. When she took off her own, he figured it was a good time to remove hers so off came the Big Bird muffs! He removed his gloves and stood back curiously. What did she want to show them? Oh! The last cart! Adi had almost forgotten about that! He looked at the the two plants. Gosh! Look at the poor dead mandrake. Poor thing. But the other one looked okay. This was good. About that activity... the Hufflepuff couldn't WAIT to care more for his mandrake. There was NO WAY he was going to let his mandrake die. NOPE! He grabbed one of the markers to write his name: Adi Rehman He then shuffled happily back to his seat after saying a quick goodbye to his mandrake to repack his stuff. "Bye, Professor Headmistress,'' the Puff said to the woman. "This was realllllly a fun lesson and I can't wait for the next one! See you around!'' Where was Henric or AJ? He was waiting on them. Yep. |
Her mandrake looked picture perfect, so she stopped worrying about it and instead turned her attention to everyone else. She watched the others taking care of their repotting and watering, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw Truebridge remove her earmuffs. So Sophie did the same. Dismiss them? She perked up at that - they were already done? Merlin, that was simple. The Ravenclaw removed her gloves and pocketed them, then looked attentive as the woman showed them two very different mandrakes. Was that supposed to scare them? Make them fear for improper care of their mandrake? Well... it certainly worked with her. Her mandrake was NOT going to die. And she had no clue how to label her mandrake with magic, so she took up a marker and labeled her pot with it. SOPHIE BROWN was sprawled in big, loopy letters, and when she was finished packing all her things away, she turned to grin big at her herbology partner. "Ready," she replied brightly, tucking her bag over her shoulder before looping her arm with Zander's and tugging him toward the exit. Oh. And. "Bye, Headmistress! Thanks for the lesson, 'n have a nice day!" Politeness and all, but then they were ready to TAKE ON THE WORLD. |
A DEAD MANDRAKE!?!? Or dying, or something. Marigold felt weird about this. Mandrakes seemed…more sentient, than other plants. This seemed more drastic then just a flower drooping. Oh, well her mandrake was NOT gonna go down THAT path. She wrote her name and house and year (she was programmed to do this) and stuck it on her pot. "Thanks, HeadmistressProfessor. This was a SUPER FUN class!" And then she skipped out the door. |
After repotting a few more of these baby mandrakes and made sure they were all deeply buried safely in the soil. He watered them like he did to his first repotted plant.Once done, Henric looked up to find the professor had already took off her earmuffs. He guessed it was safe to take off their earmuffs too so they could listen to her speak next. Oh...poor little mandrake...it was unfortunate that it died. Henric wouldn't want his mandrake to die...no way....it was quite sad to see it just lay there shriveled up and unmoving. Henric looked away and touched his own potted plants subconsciously. He knew what he should do, he had a new important added responsibility and that was to care for these mandrakes.Henric quickly took one of the muggle markers and labeled them his. "You are now mine and I shall take care of you three lot,"he mumbled. He also named his three mandrakes too, 'Snorky' and 'Draco' because y'know he loved dragons and lastly 'Lamboghini'...his all time favourite muggle supercar. Time to pack up and leave,"Thank you professor for the great lesson," he said. He walked out of the classroom and waited for his friends and bestie, llia, so they go to the next class together. He sneaked a glance at Leah and Jackson on his way out, those two seemed to be too close for his comfort. He didn't like it one bit.He quickly looked away, trying to ignore his nagging feelings. |
Zhenya had finished watering her Mandrake, when Headmistress Truebridge removed her earmuffs. Zhenya followed suit, knowing it was all safe to hear again, and waited for her to speak. Wait... that was the end? Oh... Zhenya wanted to do MORE. Zhenya removed her gloves and stepped back from the workbench to hear what Truebridge was going to be saying. And then she did it. She showed them a dead Mandrake. Oh... Zhenya took a deep breath in and exhaled. Although Zhenya was very pleased to hear that the mandrakes would be a term long activity, and they would see them again next lesson for the harvesting. That was good news. Zhenya was determined she would not let her mandrake shrivel up and die. Zhenya took a marker and wrote her name neatly on her pot; Zhenya Burton, and recapped it, putting it back for others to use. There, her mandrake was potted and they were free to go. Zhenya just had a quick question first. "Headmistress, is there any use for the dead mandrakes? Any at all?" she asked. She'd hate to think the dead mandrakes were good for absolutely nothing. |
Angel was totally enjoying this lesson and she was so sad that it was at an end. She was sure that she could sit an enjoy the plants for the full day if she was allowed but she had a feeling the Professor wouldn't let her which was such a shame she thought. Angel smiled as she label the pot with her name on it and she also put the name of the plant it. She then took her stuff off and smiled at the Head-teacher. "Thanks for the amazing lesson." Angel smiled and then heard a question she was curious about. |
Ilia had only managed to repot two mandrakes in the time it took her best friend Henric to repot three. It took her a moment to realize that the professor had taken her earmuffs off already. It must have been safe and it was time to stop, he little mandrakes were all repotted. The dead mandrake was disheartening and Ilia frowned slightly, she wasn't a huge fan of them but still.....poor little bugger. She never wanted anything to die and would always help take care of living things even if they weren't her favorite creatures or plants. Now they were to mark the mandrakes as their own. Ilia looked at the muggle quill sort of things that said 'sharpie' curiously. Things like this fascinated her because she never used them and sometimes had never seen them. She uncapped it to look at it.......it appeared to be self inking. Interesting. She slowly began to brush stroke 'Ilia Valke' into the small lip towards the top of the pot, then 'specimen one'. This was fun because it was different, but she recapped the muggle self inking quill and placed it back where she had found it. The other pot, she took her wand and wrote her name the same way but with the inscription reading 'specimen two'. It was time to go now and Ilia gathered her things and put her earmuffs back into the bin where they belonged. "Thank you for the lesson Headmistress." She bowed politely at the woman before , following Henric to walk beside him. She was still wearing his hufflepuff scarf and holding her robes close to herself. |
Ben turned his attention away from his newly-potted and watered mandrake to finish up his notes on the matter. It took him a few moments to realize Truebridge had taken of her earmuffs...a few of them had taken them off...and how that was possible. The sixth year tentatively slipped them off his own, letting the band rest down around his neck. Nope, no screaming or causing trouble. They were good. It also seemed the class was over, only one final step having to be done to be ready for the rest of the term and caring for his mandrake. No dead mandrakes for him thank you. Ben labeled his pot with his name before setting about to pack up his belongings.....gloves included...and slinging his bag over his shoulder. Reminded of his borrowed earmuffs that he found there, he took them off and prepared to leave. "Thanks Professor," he said out of politeness, returning the earmuffs to the box they belonged. He then slipped out of the classroom, avoiding Henric and Adi. |
Cutty saw the Headmistresses perfectly painted mouth moving and he glanced around to assure that everyone was done pulling before yanking off his hamburger earmuffs. The last and final cart was pulled around and he saw the two different mandrakes. Seeing that one bore a resemblance to the ones they'd planted there that day and the other not so much, he deduced that one might be an example of what not to do. He shook his head at the grey and shriveled mandrake that appeared not to be sleeping so much as being dead. What a waste. Never one to pass up the opportunity to do something with magic when a mundane option reared it's head, Cutty removed his gloves and took up his wand to inscribed his name upon one of the labels. Once finished, he fastened the labels onto his recently potted plant that he'd be raising. He was going to teach it all sorts of wicked things that young mandrakes should know. Yay for corrupt fatherhood??? With his wand conveniently in his hand, Cutty began to clean up after himself, sterilizing the afore used pot and surfaces he'd recently used in the repotting process. |
Merlin's beard! The children were far more sensitive to the dead mandrakes than they had been in past terms... or perhaps she was just more tuned in to their sensitivity? Hmm. Funny how having a child of your own would do that to you. Quote:

Anyway, the greenhouse was about clean. Annie finished tidying up her trays and storing the mandrakes in an easy-to-find place, then locked the greenhouse behind her. That lesson had been surprisingly stress-free! Hopefully all these students remembered to do their homework, though... |
